Nothing makes me happier than seeing others happy. I'm a stay at home mom so when I go places I crave a great dining experience and I have to be honest it starts the moment you walk inside. The hostess MUST have a smile, that's the golden ticket to a fabulous evening. But on this particular day it was the Tenderest juiciest fall off the bone baby back ribs! I like the sauce on the side typically but I could've eaten their bbq rib sauce by the spoonful it was so delish. Superb portion sizes picture below shows 1/2 order-my mom and I split the full order. French fries were also served at an optimal temperature overall evident why it has always been one off my moms favorite restaurants for many years now. My uncle and her have a favorite server whom I had the pleasure of meeting during the Wildcard playoff game when our Houston Texans beat the Bills and the energy was crazy awesome inside the whole restaurant as we cheered the Texans on!!! The happy hour menu is overpriced, I wanted to order the oyster nachos but it was $9 for only 4 chips. No thank you. My bf ordered a mint strawberry margarita which was great but small. We also ordered the Italian cream cake it was $10 but it tasted like a wet tres leches cake and it was ice cold with too many nuts and no cake. So disappointed. Even their sandwiches are $17 and up. We greatly enjoyed our Sunday brunch today. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was very flavorful. I had the eggs Benedict with crab and spinach. WOW!!! That is literally how I felt as I walked in & out of Laurenzo's last night!! My husband said he'd like to eat dinner at a spot where he could get a great steak & be able to watch the game. So, as we were coming up on downtown, I jumped on my handy Yelp app & searched "Sports Grills". Soooo many pulled up, but Laurenzo's caught my eye due to the main pic being Prime Rib!! So we went on in, was told there was about a 20 min wait due to not having made a reservation, & surprisingly was seated in about less then 10 min. Perfect Booth along with a perfect waiter!!! Dallas was our server & when I say he was fantastic, I'm not exaggerating at all!! He was so good about describing each entree to us!! & we took his advice. We wanted a lil Steak & a lil Seafood, so we ordered the Red Fish which came with 1 of 4 sauces to choose from. I chose the one that had tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon (large pieces), jalapeños, & lump (very large) crab with shrimp!!! We also ordered the Prime Rib with Caesar Salad & loaded baked potato. Dallas was sooooo sweet & threw in an extra backed potato along with fresh bread!!! The food was soooooo good!!! We also ordered 2 beers, an iced tea, and a Frozen Strawberry Margarita. **1 of there margaritas will def have you tipsy if you're not a big drinker like me** We also got a slice of cheesecake, huge portion!! Our entire meal came to right at about $100 before tip. Not bad at all for the service, quality & portion size!!! Laurenzo's strikes a balance between fancy steakhouse and casual family restaurant and does it just right. My meal wasn't absolutely perfect, but there was so much to like here that I think less than 5 stars would be a disservice. The open kitchen near the entrance was a good sign. One chef seemed focused solely on making french dip sandwiches - and they looked good, a definite must-try next time. Although crowded, the restaurant was comfortable and not overly noisy - lots of wood, interesting lighting, and plenty of sports memorabilia. A curious choice in my view but it doesn't distract. Service was absolutely first rate. Our server was dealing with a large party nearby, but another server seamlessly stepped in and between the two of them, we got immaculate service from start to finish. We split a noodle salad with chicken, mango, and spinach to start. It was nice, especially the flavorful chicken. The dressing was a bit of a letdown, a mild lime vinaigrette that was supposed to have some peanut sauce in it. Good but not great. I got a marinated ribeye served with a slice of grilled pineapple and poblano cheese rice. The ribeye was good, the rice was tasty as well but I expected more cheese to it. David pronounced his prime rib possibly the best he's ever had, and seeing as the occasion was his 48th birthday, he's been around a while and knows his prime rib. It was served au jus with a nice horseradish sauce and a baked potato. We were debating four versus five stars and said the chocolate bread pudding we ordered for dessert would determine Laurenzo's fate. It was superb. More of a pudding cake I would say, not the very best bread pudding I've ever had, but the flavor was great, and it was about twice as big as I expected. Also the sauce was wonderful, I was still spooning it up after the pudding was long gone. Laurenzo's isn't the pinnacle of dining in Houston, but as a casual place where you can get a really fine meal, I think it rates very highly. Update following a second visit: Possibly the best French Dip I've ever had. Wonderful flavor, soft bread with just a bit of crunch, served with delicious au jus and creamy horseradish. Laurenzo's is conveniently close to my home, so when I didn't feel like driving to the west side of town for TOT, I went to Laurenzo's... Their Prime Rib is good. Service is quick....and I mean quick - our appetizer came out in less than 2 minutes after ordering. The calamari was hot, tender and really good. My hubby and I were happy about that. The app came out so quickly, I thought it was under a heat lamp, getting rubbery as each second passed. But we were wrong..it was good! Then we ordered our entrees. I saw a few tables with bread, so I was hoping to get a bread plate. Then our entrees arrived. My Roasted Beet Salad was gorgeous. My hubby's Prime Rib was perfectly cooked. BUT, it was not as warm as it should have been. Thank goodness for the au jus. We dipped the beef in the au jus to warm it up a bit. We start digging in and still no bread! I want my free bread!! So when the server came to check on us, I asked for bread. It arrived shortly, hot and fresh. The restaurant didn't seem busy..I saw a few empty tables...so maybe that's why the food came out so fast...the kitchen was ready/prepared to get the food out. I was able to visit Laurenzo's with my coworkers during Houston Restaurant Week. We had a reservation for 11am and we were among the first few patrons. We were immediately greeted warmly by our server, who took our drink orders and made sure we had the HRW menu. He was very pleasant and charismatic. The lunch option was $20 per person and included 3 different courses: Appetizer, Entree, and Dessert. Amazing value! I opted to get the Chili for the appetizer, the Chicken Salad Speciale, and the Italian Creme Cake for dessert. The chili was very hearty, tasty, and comforting. It normally comes topped with cheese and onions, but I got it without (I detest onions). My salad was awesome. First of all, BEAUTIFUL presentation! That's always a good sign. Salad was very fresh and was tossed in a wonderfully light vinaigrette. It was an appropriately sized dish for lunch. I was satisfied. The bulk of my coworkers decided to indulge in the shrimp BLT entree...and I have to just say that I was JEALOUS! It was HUGE and looked absolutely AMAZING! My coworkers raved about it and most of them took a leftover box. I am a fan of large portions and sadly, missed out on that item. But, next time! We all got our dessert to go. I thoroughly enjoyed the Italian Creme Cake...it was delectable! I don't know what else to say, but definitely make this a choice when you visit Laurenzo's! You will not be disappointed. Epic fail. I was SUPER Excited about visiting this place for my colleagues birthdays after reading all the positive reviews. I absolutely LOVE El Tiempo, so I figured, you can't wrong.....right? WRONG. We had a reservation for 10, which ended up being 8 on a Saturday night, at 7p.m. The biggest problem was the service, it has to be some of the worst service I have ever personally experienced. The waiter, started out strong, coming over to introduce himself, and calling me by first name. He then asked us about drinks, ect. Once we started to sit down, we ordered a round of apps. All good up to here. (Ordered the ceviche (which was decent) the white queso, which was super yummy, and guac (just okay) It took him A WHILE to get our food orders taken, and the whole time, I was thinking this guys had to be on some sort of phen phen, or something....He was extremely jittery, and kept asking OVER and OVER again what our order was. It was very odd. All of the food came out by some miracle after we had to play musical chairs, and switch a roo, being that he didn't place the food in front of any of the correct diners. He then COMPLETELY forgot the order of the birthday girl. He tried to blame it on the kitchen, saying that it was over cooked (she ordered a burger) but then asked her, "What did you order again?" The absolute worst part of the meal was that it took FOREVER (over 2 hours) and after the food came out, he disappeared. I ordered the Pontchartrain red fish which was cooked perfectly, so that was the real saving grace of the meal. One of the couples present had two little ones at home and asked for their check early, they had to ask THREE times, and he acted like it was a bother. They finally had to get up and ask another waiter for it. Between 8 people, we needed to split the check three ways, (yes I know cash would have been easiest, but I went over this at the beginning) The waiter, POINT BLANK told me that WE OUGHT to be glad that he wasn't that busy, otherwise he wouldn't do it! He repeated that twice. He was EXTREMELY rude, and VERY unprofessional. We all just sat there with our mouth open, and couldn't BELIEVE that the said that. He completely screwed up the order, and worst of all the birthday girls order came last. I hate writing these reviews, and did call and speak to a manager, RIGHT after the incident. He apologized profusely, and took down my address to send me a gift card to bring the birthday girl back in.....fast forward a month later, and no gift card, so hence the review. read more

a friend of mine treated me to lunch here(she had a Groupon). we were a party of 3.5(3 ladies and "This One") as we entered, the hostess was very warm in receiving us. when our server(Nathalie)approached, she did not seem excited to serve us. ::shrug:: my friend had previewed the menu before our arrival and had set her taste buds on the "ham and cheddar on jalapeno muffin". when she asked Nathalie about it, her reply was "it's fine i guess, i mean it's basic." umm ok. i ordered the prime rib quesadillas, and the other friend ordered a bacon cheeseburger. This place was good but not somewhere I would be adamant to come back too. To start, we ordered the calamari which was nicely fried but nothing special. They weren't the most tender I've had, but they weren't chewy either. As for entree, I ordered the etouffee fish with mac and cheese as my side. I must say I was digging my mac and cheese more than my entree. The fish was slightly overcooked and the roux on the fish got tiring after a while. The whole plate was drenched in the roux and I think I would have preferred less. My bf ordered the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. Again I was more into the side rather than the entree. His prime rib came out dry and overcooked from what he ordered. For this being a signature entree at the restaurant, I would have expected better. However, the potatoes were delicious as they were smooth and creamy with a nice garlic flavor. Overall, entrees were a bust, but sides were good. Yikes Laurenzo's. I had high hopes coming here once I found out it's owned by the same folks that own my beloved El Tiempo - I figured it was a sure shot, so I ignored the mediocre Yelp reviews. Basically, this placed is totally overpriced for what they're offering. We had a Restaurant.com gift card so we decided to splurge a little and ordered the Spinach Artichoke Dip to start, then a NY Strip (about $42) and the Chicken PIcatta. The winner in my mind was the Chicken Picatta which isn't saying very much for a place named after steak, and the Strip was under seasoned and just plain bland. Strangely enough I actually really enjoyed the weird Bennigans-esque decor they have going on. Drinks seem to be cheaper before 7:00, so I'll probably only be back for a Happy Hour drink or two. read more

What a nice surprise!!! I knew this restaurant was affiliated with El tiempo and it wasn't a Mexican restaurant so I wasn't sure what to expect at first; except that the menu would be aggressive. I went in with ZERO expectations abt the food and I'm glad I did. The menu included a bit of cajun, seafood, and mexican food. I was blown away by my meal. The calamari as an appetizer was well seasoned and tasty, I dipped my calamari in the table provided El Tiempo "Hotter N Hot Red Habanero Hot Sauce" and it was sooo freakin good! The sauce is HOT, it made my eyebrows stand up;so be careful. My entree I had the Durango (Red fish- blackened with crab,shrimp hold the bacon for me, jalapenos and cilantro served with poblano queso rice!!!!! OooooMyyyyyGawd! I danced with every bite i took. I definitely recommend that meal. This fish was blackened yet juicy and the rice was definitely tasty. If you're expecting queso drizzled over rice, Don't b/c that's not how its served. The server was in a bit of a rush as he tried to clear plates from in front of my party and myself not once but three times while we were still working on our food. Like I was in mid bite and he attempted to take my plate.... Slow your roll homeboy. I'm eating every bite on my pate. There was lady who was walking around the dinning room making sure everything was OK. I am not sure what her official role was but she was fabulous. She was almost like an owner the way she shook your hand, asked how the food was, helped out the waiter a few times with dishes, and just so friendly. I am not a big Prime Rib fan usually because I like my meat fairly well done and Prime Rib is usually more on the rare side. I explained that I would like it medium / medium well. It came out cooked perfectly AND was still moist and tender. My only complaint is all of the TV's EVERY WHERE. In such a nice place I don't expect to have them all over the dinning room (the bar I see but viewed from every table is a little distracting to a nice dinner). read more

This is my first review and have read 1000's as I try to use them in my decision making process. We went because we bought a deal from Living Social and thought it would be nice to try. The short version this is an overpriced chili's. The Food... We ordered several appetizers the salmon, the calamari, and the white queso. We also ordered the 12 oz prime rib and 1/2 slab of baby back ribs. 1 piece of CheeseCake The food was fair at best. The calamari was fried and "typical" calamari. It had nothing added to make you feel like they even tried to make it look nice or differentiate from other restaurants. The salmon was straight from a package and a disgrace for a "finer" dining experience The queso was ok The baby back ribs were ok, not bad, not great. The prime rib was served COLD. We said something to the waiter and he said it was supposed to be like that. I have never had a cold steak in my life and I have eaten at every steak house in Houston. The waiter said he would warm it up and it came back medium from originally being medium rare. The prime rib sucked. It was the worst thing we ate and none of the food was better than a 6. I received my bill and had some remaining money left from the deal so I ordered cheesecake assuming and asking, how can this be bad. We took it go and when we got home, it was the absolute worse cheese cake I have ever eaten. The service for drinks and refills was very good. I am giving this restaurant one star and that is ONLY because the service was great. Our server, Candace, was incredibly sweet, accommodating and competent. She was the only good thing about this place. I ordered their 8 oz prime rib for TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS. About 30% of my slab of meat was fat. The rest was rather tasteless beef. I guess if you slather enough horseradish and au jus on it, it's edible. My dinner companion, who considers himself a "prime rib expert" said during the meal, "You SO GOT SCREWED on that piece of meat!" I couldn't agree more. He had their French Dip. His comment was "I've had better at Denny's." The restaurant was so cold, we found ourselves eating very quickly, just to get out of there. It was like a refrigerator. I had a sweater on, and that still wasn't enough to make it comfortable. For being not much more than a higher end sports bar, I was astonished at the prices. Not a piece of fish for under $28 and the meat started at $25 (this was for the crappy piece of prime rib I got...less the fat, about 5 ounces tops of actual meat. Wow, that's $5 an OUNCE). Me thinks not. I have had better food at much more upscale restaurants, for a fraction of the price (Ibiza is one, Vinotec Piscole is another). Their pricing is literally laughable. Good news first - The place seemed nice , had their own parking, and the waitress was very patient while the servers were pretty attentive. Bad news - food is wayyyyyy too expensive and overpriced for the taste and quality. $22 for a fajita plate that could make 3-4 SMALL tortillas with meat that did not even sizzle or taste that great. I'd rather just go to papasitos' for much better and more food. Gumbo was also too salty - it was barely edible, because of that and three other people at my table had the same problem; no one ate more than a few bites of it. It's also kind of confusing because there was a little bit of tex-mex, seafood, italian , and american food all mixed into one menu. We placed a takeout order and not only did they have it ready in 15 minutes, they also included two free pecan pralines and a free brownie. So not impressed. I've had my heart set on this place for a year. I walked in, decor is like a sports bar combines with fine dining because the prices are definitely fine dining prices. Order smoked salmon appetizer, smoked salmon was ice cold, not just cold. Muy frio cold. had a salad with some tomatoes. And my steak. How unimpressed. My 12 oz prime rib that I have been waiting for and wanting to try completely disappointed me. It was thin, overcooked and not tasty at all. Unfortunately I may have to say, I have had much much better. Oh and lets not forget the service, absolutely not great. We ordered drinks before dinner and then a bottle of wine. Drinks came separately and when the bottle of wine came, we asked for a decanter. He had no idea what it was which is ok. Their wine selection was so small I can see why they didn't need wine education. But service could have been better. The server didn't bother to ask us if we had questions. Just left us there. So does that make the back the front, or is it still considered the back? Anyway, the important thing is the food. I ordered the roast beef sandwich with white cheese polenta rice as my side. It was ok. It was everything a roast beef sandwich should be - juicy and messy! It came with au jus sauce but I also asked for a side horseradish sauce. This sandwich was huge! I was only able to eat 1/2 of it. The cheesy rice was good while it was warm. After about 10 minutes, the polenta and cheese hardened up and ruined the dish. My dining companion (Jenny H. aka the +1er) ordered the roast beef quesadilla. It too was ok - cheesy but also greasy. The winner of the night, drumroll please... the mojito! The waiter mentioned this was a new recipe they were trying out. Well, it worked! Mojito was great! It was more on the sweet side than tangy but it wasn't overly sweet. Service was excellent, can't complain! Food prices were reasonable - taco plate and sandwiches averaged $13, and steaks $25. Ambiance is casual/business casual. With the ambitious name and location this restaurant is no more than a local diner or sports bar with extremely overpriced food. My girlfriend and I decided to try this restaurant for our two-year anniversary. At first, everything was fine, but when our server came everything went sideways. Our server, unfortunately, I don't remember the name but he is a large fellow in glasses, wasn't very nice. However, all of that is minor issue that I wouldn't take my time to write about. Here are two reasons why I am taking my time to tell You - reader - not to go to this place and take your money somewhere else: 1. The steak was overcooked and dry - go to a REAL steak house, we have plenty of those in Houston 2. I had a coupon and decided to use it during this visit. We spent about $150 with lots of food to take home. Out server charged me 18% service charge (tips).To remind You that it was ONLY two of us. I love this place. I have dreams about their Prime Rib. And they aren't the ladylike type...they are full on bib style napkin, juice dripping from my chin, bite of beef covered in horseradish naughty dreams. The service has always been great. So I live in the Heights and have tried many places and I rarely give a place a second or third chance. But I was feeling brave tonight and we wanted steak but didn't want to drive too far so I made reservations for 8:15. We got there at 8:20 there was a wait but hey we have reservations no problem -right? So WRONG the hostess comes back and tells us " I just sat your table I have been calling your name ". It's ok. By no means amazing. I had a the roasted beet salad with a bit of seared tuna on top. The beets were fresh - roasted ok (read not perfectly amazingly so) - the greens were fresh, the veggies were fresh, the blue cheese was solid (albeit, small), but something was lacking. Some punch of flavor, which the miso vinagrette did not fix. For a $20 salad, I expected something perfectly executed, and what I got, was just MEH. Service, as far as the busboy was concerned, was awesome. I like that they refill my water constantly - as I've said before, I may be small, but I put it away. This place has a nice lot for self parking. The space inside seemed outdated and is a mix between classic fancy American restaurant, and sports bar. Appetizer was calamari. It had some nice seasoning and was crispy but nothing to write home about. The pieces could have been more tender. I got the prime rib with garlic mashed potatoes. The wrong plate was initially given to me but the piece that was then taken away looked so much better than the one I eventually got. I prefer a nice pink prime rib but the one I got ended up being quite browned and dry. Not enough fat on the cut to balance out the meat either. The garlic mashed potatoes were well whipped, creamy, and full of garlicky goodness if you're into that. I also tried the étouffée fish but thought the roux was way too dark and the fish was overcooked. This is a pretty expensive place for the quality that you get but otherwise the food is good. What a disappointment! Such a good family history of culinary delights has skipped this forgotten family member. The most bland spinach and artichoke dip. The worst pizza I have had in long time... Dominos would have been better. Sad, sad, sad. Service tried to make up for it but it was embarrassing the way it was handled. Too many restaurants in that area to go eat at that are so much better! As a prime rib crazy fan, I had been looking for a high end prime rib spot in Houston and heard some recommendations about Laurenzo's. We went at lunch time on weekday and there were quite a lot of people there. The decor didn't seem very high end and was more like mid-level family friendly restaurant. After trying their famous prime rib, I have to say that given the price we paid ($40 for 12 oz), the quality really wassn't up to my expectations. The prime rib tasted okay but the texture was not soft enough for medium rare. There was no bread or salad included in the price either. Only one side dish. I have had so much better prime rib at a lower price in many other restaurants. I guess my search for the best prime rib in town still goes on... read more

I know, I know people will read this and think.... I'm ok with tv's in a restaurant and background music if the food is served fresh and hot. Tonight the music was blasting the tv's were on and my food was cold! The green beans were raw and old bread! If your hostess announces that the prime rib is the best thing in the house it should make you wanna slap your momma! Thankfully my momma is safe! read more

We went here for brunch - after making excuses to go other places for over a year now. It was great, nice service with very tasty food. To start - I had their gumbo. It was very flavorful with lots of big chunks of seafood! In addition, garnished with a crab claw - a simple but fun presentation. For my meal, I had the eggs Benedict, only with grilled shrimp (sorry, I forgot the "name" on the brunch menu) - very good.... Perfectly poached eggs, and some pico on the side for some additional flavor. My order came with marscaponne grits - whoa, decadent! They were beyond creamy and very flavorful! My brunch special also came with two folded crepe style pancakes - perfect last nail in the meal; not too heavy, just right. The service was great - very attentive without annoyance. They did pull one of my only pet peeves by removing my plate before the others at the table were finished - maybe I am too old school, but this should be taught in serving 101. I came here for Brunch over the weekend and was really impressed. They have quite a few takes on eggs Benedict. I opted for the one incorporating salmon. Every bite was delicious. Between the English muffin, the poached egg, and the salmon, there was a lot of great texture. My dining companions ordered different versions of the eggs Benedict and one also ordered a steak and jalapeno sandwich which looked excellent. I was just reviewing my reviews and was shocked I haven't reviewed Laurenzo's! I have eaten at Laurenzo's probably 20 - 25 times if not more and have never, ever been disappointed in any way shape or form. Staff - wait staff are on the ball and friendly. Kitchen staff - I LOVE that you say, goodbye and Thank you on my way out. That makes me feel like a welcomed guest because you don't have to do that, front of the house does but the fact that you do is awesome! I always feel good coming and going! Food - I don't think there are enough letters available in the English alphabet to describe how delicious the food is every single time. (which is why I go a lot!) Here are some highlights: shrimp and grits - whoa - 1 of the best grits in town, creamy and deliciously flavorful Brunch menu - that chicken cordon bleu sandwich - what a value with the soup and holy moly what do you do to that chicken? It is so good! Blackened a little bit or charcoaly - not sure but am sure it is amazing Mashed potatoes - I know a think or two about mashed potatoes - these are worth the calories Chicken pasta soup - doesn't sound exciting but if you feel like soup you need to try it - very flavorful and chicken-y, really hits the spot if you are craving soup Prime Rib sandwich - I don't eat meat anymore. I make a 1 bite concession whenever my fiance orders that for his meal. It's that good. Fresh Fish -blackened Pontchartrain style - DO IT - if you want the fish. The atmosphere is laid back, the food is good, can get a bit pricey so if you are looking to have a cheap dinner that won't happen, unless if you don't drink. Example - 2 people, 2 entrees, 2 drinks each usually totals $120 with tip for dinner. (if you don't drink probably be a good bit less). Brunch is a good value - that generally ranges right around $60 for about the same things. I will go back regularly. They never disappoint. read more

Very good dinner! NY STRIP done very nicely! Creamed spinach was also very good. Garlic mashed potatoes also a good choice! Bananas Foster and the cheesecake with blueberries- both also very good. Great date night! read more
