I spent a solid hour (or two) shopping around online for florists in the Ballard area who can do a same day delivery. Most shops were too expensive for the arrangements provided, and didn't offer a lot of variety. FINALLY I came across LaVassar and I'm so glad I did! Their website is easy to navigate, their arrangements are inexpensive and stunning for the price. They provided a picture of the actual arrangement that was delivered, which is always a concern when ordering from unknown florists - not knowing what the actual arrangement will look like. They also sent a confirmation when the flowers were delivered. Under the 'special instructions' I wrote "give her a hug for me" as my aunt was having a tough day - hence the flowers. After researching and talking to several different florists throughout the Seattle area about my wedding flowers, I was blown away when I visited La Vassar for the first time. I was a bit undecided as to what I wanted, but Joanne quickly inspired me with multiple ideas, pairing fresh flowers from the back to give the best visual representation, and I left the shop that day feeling excited about the way the flowers were going to transform my wedding. La Vassar didn't disappoint! The flowers were spectacular - one of the highlights of my wedding. And because I was working on a tight budget, Joanne picked seasonal, fresh flowers that stayed beautiful long after the wedding day was over. Her prices were the most reasonable in town, and she constantly steered me in more budget-conscious decisions, even when I would have paid more just to be done with all the decision-making! Joanne was also very responsive to all my inquiries and returned calls immediately. I had a change of heart the week before my wedding - I wanted to have rose petals trailing down the walkway for the procession, but, of course, was trying to fit this in with little to no money left in my budget. Joanne recommended a particular rose variety that might be overlooked for bouquets but made a fantastic substitute for petals lying on the ground. This recommendation saved me 70% of the bill and looked absolutely stunning against the Puget Sound backdrop. Within the 1.5 years I took to plan this wedding, I would say that La Vassar was by far the easiest vendor to work with. I would trust Joanne with all wedding planning if I could! She's a great gal to work with and works well with anxious, undecided, and budget-conscious customers, although she exceeds expectations with very specific floral requests as well. I won the grand prize of $350 off of my wedding flowers at the 2009 Seattle Wedding Show. I visited their booth at the show and the owner Joanne La Vassar was very helpful; she had me hold different types of bouquets by a full length mirror and she showed me her portfolio. Customer service is outstanding at this family owned small business. At our initial in-person consultation meeting, I was shown several binders of La Vassar's floral work. Although I had brought some details about my wedding and some magazine floral pictures, I didn't have much of a specific vision for how the flowers would compliment my wedding. Joanne was very helpful in how she guided me to clarify my own ideas about the flowers. Very responsive to email or phone questions. Very willing to work within a budget and with ideas for how flowers can compliment an event. They even delivered a flower and a card to my home for free thanking me for my business (unexpected surprise). I am so glad that I won the wedding show prize, otherwise I would have missed out on a chance to work with a wonderful vendor who truly gets to know her clients and who takes pride in the quality of her work and her level of service. I told her that I didn't want to deal with on-line "florists" anymore, and would she be able to deliver flowers locally. She was so helpful and friendly. I went on-line for the usual 1-800 same day delivery services and the one I chose "confirmed" via email that it was all a go. But that was not to be as I found out the next day... So the following day I Googled florists near my friend's house in Seattle and found LaVassar. Although all the offerings on their website indicated that it would be next day delivery, I called directly and spoke to Joanne. These guys are beyond awesome. I ordered the "Stop Over" bouquet and they arrived the same day, although it looked just like they never arrived. I called LaVassar and they delivered another set of flowers for no charge and included chocolates just because they're that cool and couldn't handle the possibility of indirectly nuking a special day on the off chance it was their fault (and it totally wasn't -- they even volunteered to send a replacement, I didn't even have to ask). It turned out that someone in our building had picked up the original bouquet thinking that they were from a secret admirer who'd somehow put the wrong apartment number or the order. We stopped by today on our way to visit my friend's grandmother and wanted to pick up some flowers for her birthday. I was nervous at first when we walked in and I noticed they didn't really have much sitting out and it looked like most of what they do was made-to-order and we hadn't called ahead. But thankfully someone came out to help us and provided us with a number of different options in varying price ranges. I found LaVassar Florists through Teleflora. I was afraid of Teleflora due to some negative reviews on the internet. I read reviews here and online, and I selected this particular florist. I called LaVassar Florist directly to ask for help in making a selection. The person I spoke to was so kind and knowledgable, which I found to be very impressive. By my request, she told me how to order on Teleflora to select a custom arrangement and select their shop, and offered to send a photo of the arrangement when it was ready. She also offered the option to order directly from the shop, which I will do next time. I just wanted to see how it turned out first. Everything went perfectly. I just received the photo and a confirmation of delivery. I'm really happy with the results and the photo shows how nice they turned out! I highly recommend this florist for any Seattle needs. I am in Utah; but needed to send flowers to a friend in the hospital there. I googled Florists in Seattle; and LaVassar had the most positive reviews. I called them; and they were so lovely to work with. I felt good about what they were going to deliver. The next day they called and said they couldn't deliver because my friend was back in ICU. They said they would keep trying until she was moved. I had to call them today to tell them she had died. Based on the time and trouble they had already spent on the bouquet and delivery attempt; I expected them to keep the money. I would have totally understood. Instead they were very kind and empathic; and graciously offered to refund the money to my card. I said they should at least keep a portion for their trouble; and they said no, they would refund the full amount. Great florist! I had them do my wedding flowers, which included my bouquet, 8 table arrangements, corsages, & boutonnières. We were very impressed & lots of guests gave compliments on the flowers. The flower arrangements couldn't have been more on target with what I wanted & I only provided a few photos..and we swapped out the flower types, so I feel that I left a lot up to them to figure out. They were also so prompt that they beat us to the wedding venue (despite me being only 8-10 min behind) and set the flowers up before we got there, which was really nice. They also added a boutonnière just days before the wedding because we forgot about our officiant (oops!). Attentive, personalized service and great product! A friend in DC sent me a "Welcome" plant and flower arrangement to my new home in Seattle. "Julie" ("Judy"?) at LaVassar called and left a message to let me know that the arrangement had been left on my doorstep--good thing, since it turned very cold that evening. Had I not received the message, I would have come home much later from work and probably found my arrangement frost-bitten. The sending florist in DC didn't capture the last name of the giver for some reason, so I was left puzzling over which "Anne" had sent me flowers. I called LaVassar and they promptly called the florist in DC and retrieved the last name of the giver so that I knew who to thank. Really appreciate them going the extra mile on customer service. The flowering plant arrangement still looks great several weeks later. I like how each plant was in its own separate plastic liner within the decorative basket, to make watering more precise. read more
