Nestled deep in the cove of La Quinta is something magical. As you meander to Lavender Bistro, with your date of choice holding your hand, you hear the sounds of live music, perhaps you'll get a waft of cooked meats across your button of a nose, and see the twinkling white lights wrapped around the trees like ties wrapped around a fat man's chins. The pistachio-crusted lamb is consistently delicious and will make your taste buds water with anticipation of the next bite. Miso salmon, tuna towers, beef short ribs, lobster ravioli, oh my! The libations are a generous pour and worth every hard-earned dollar; be sure to sip and not guzzle. The staff at Lavender Bistro are not only friendly, they are welcoming and attentive. The meal is a huge factor, but the service is the preverbal icing on top of the cake; practically perfect in every way - just how Marry Poppins would measure up if she pulled out her tape! Parking can get tight, but there is plenty of parking on the street, the adjacent lot, and across the street. Make a reservation. They close during the summer months. The waiter was very kind and helpful. I love salmon sashimi but it was a little spicy (didn't say that on the menu) and the crispy garlic chips were distracting from the buttery smooth salmon, in my opinion. The mushroom soup was good, and so was the short rib. read more

The patio is beautiful, but the food is terrible. We all order different things and no one had a good dish. The prices were ridiculous, high even if the food was outstanding. Cristina his assistant in taking care of our area was The Best, she kept our water glasses filled, answered many question. Just a lovely young lady who appreciates her job and does it well. Reservations are a must. Do yourself a favor and plan ahead. We sat outside on a beautiful evening and enjoyed the light breezes and the musician playing classic rock songs. Great ambience. We started with the PEI mussels for N appetizer, which was the dinner portion. Magnificent flavors and hearty mussels in every shell. The broth was flavorful and had a tasty white wine aroma. Salads were next, which were not average - but salads are salads. Ten wedge was delicious, a bit much dressing for me, but overall good. My wife had the poached Anjou pear salad, which was tasty. For dinner I had the rack of lamb, while my wife had the filet. Both expertly cooked and plated. Fresh flavors and easily to cut and enjoy. Super disappointed. I've been here before and had an amazing experience, but this visit was just bad. The French fries and calamari were undercooked and soggy, and both of our filets came out cold. The potatoes were hard and completely inedible. Our server was very nice, but extremely slow--we ended up being there for almost 3 hours for no reason. What a gorgeous and fun spot! Our family members knew about this place and we were happy to give it a try. We started with drinks that included martinis and margaritas. We immediately knew we made a mistake when we tried the drinks, but our server was gracious and didn't hesitate to take them back and bring us new drinks. We ordered 1942 on the rocks and the server brought us two glasses each through dinner; so kind and generous. Our dinners were delicious that started with oysters, short rib, lamb and fish. It fills up quickly and is not the young hipster kind of dining experience. Quiet and semi dressy. Location: Easy to find, lots of parking and a locals kind of vibe. Buildout: It is dark, mostly outside, lit up like Rockefeller Center with heat lamps by the hundreds... it is okay they got this you'll enjoy yourself. Menu: Excellent, well traveled I think you cannot go wrong. Food Prep: Professional plated with intent, so nice. Food quality: The entire presentation is exceptional and the food is the bonus, great quality beef and sides. Beverages: Large martini soup, best to have just one. Waitstaff: Perfect, never rushing you and careful to allow conversation and not some idiot barking in to the group in the middle of someone speaking. Food was average at best and the quality didn't match the prices. I had a salmon dish, which I didn't care for. My bill was $90, no alcohol. I left a $15 tip. Something mysterious happened with the charge to my credit card.. the tip magically increased to $75 and the total increased to $150! Luckily, I had a copy of my receipt. What an absolutely delightful location. The twinkling lights on the trees in the outdoor patio is so charming. It really sets the mood for your meal. We recieved excellent service from from the hostesses to the server to the finish. We felt doted on and taken care of the entire dining experience. And on top of that - the food was delicious and full of flavor. The sashimi appetizer was excellent. There were enough slices for sharing. And the taste was buttery smooth. I ordered the sears ahi for dinner and the sauce drizzled on the plate was a soy/ponzu crème burre that was so tasty and paired well with the ahi. The broccolini was cooked just right - not too crunchy and not too soft. For dessert we shared the ice cream with the seasonal fruit and drizzled with the grand marnier. Wow! So good. The food was mediocre at best. I had the duck, and it was below average and chewy, and flavorless. The butternut squash ravioli was tasty, but not like, drop-your-draws delicious. Same with the Pork Chop & Steak. The best item here was the lobster ravioli. The service was good. We had the creme brûlée & the butter cake. Both desserts were mediocre-- I was expecting everything to be out of this world because of the tier of the restaurant & the price but everything was very average at best. We've had many nine meals at Lavendar Bistro, but our last visit was unsatisfactory. The environment is lovely. The entertainment was good. There seemed to a lot of waitstaff present, but the service was very slow. The food was the real disappointment. Overcooked meat, bland fish presentation, and a dessert that in the past had been great but this time was just so-so. The prices aren't outrageous, but they're high enough that we expected high quality, well-prepared food. We didn't get it and we will choose a different restaurant for our next special occasion in the desert. read more

I will take into consideration that this restaurant may just be catering to their population (older, retired folk) and perhaps that's why I found my dishes to be lackluster. I was disappointed with my experience. Many people recommended this place to celebrate a birthday, but I wished I picked a different place instead. I will say that the ambiance and the live music sets a wonderful scene but the food is subpar. We ordered a tuna tower for the table which was ok. The wedge salad, beet salad, and mushroom soup were good, however the Cesar salad was too soggy to the point where I could not stab my leaves with my fork. I ordered the lamb and I was severely disappointed at how bland it tasted and how chewy the texture was. My father ordered the filet mignon and he said it wasn't great either - just fine. Note that these two items are the most expensive on the menu. The only thing that was the star of the table was the Chilean Seabass - the texture was perfect and the flavor was wonderful. We typically get dessert but we're so disappointed with the meals that we refrained from ordering. My father ordered a coffee and he even said that the coffee wasn't made well either. A hidden place frequented by celebs (I'm looking at you, Harry Styles!), I was excited to try it and see what the appeal is. The courtyard is beautiful with trees covered in string lights that create a very romantic and magical ambience. You wouldn't even expect this little area to be here the way that Lavender Bistro is tucked away in Old Town. For my drink I chose the La Quinta Lemonade which had raspberry vodka and lavender syrup. I'm a sucker for sweet stuff so it was a good drink that was not too strong. Their poached anjou pear salad was delicious. The pear was stuffed with gorgonzola cheese and the cheese spills out as you cut into it. The Wild Mushroom soup was so good too. I would 100% get those again. As for the main courses, no one was particularly impressed. The rack of lamb was very tough and hard to cut. It had no flavor to it and the short rib did not either. It lacked seasoning and just tasted like plain meat. The butternut squash ravioli needed some sauce added to it. It was made with a sage and butter sauce but that didn't not have much flavor to it either. It was like they used unsalted butter. A cream sauce might have been really nice to pair with it and give it something extra. For dessert I had the peach and bluberry crumble which was very good! If I wasn't so full already I would have ate it all. How could I not leave much room for dessert?! But all in all, the starters and the dessert were the stars of the show while the main courses definitely left something to be desired. And for the price you're paying here, the entrees should be worth it. read more

Just called to make a reservation for two to celebrate a birthday. The person who answered was Rene. I asked her if they had a cake policy. She said $5 per slice and they put a scoop of ice cream and or berries if I heard correctly. I told her that was fine because we would only need two slices cut for the two of us. Then she recommended that we not bring the birthday cake and just have them do something for her. Made excuses of how it's been hot outside and they would have to keep the cake cool, and how the table for two is small, where would they put the cake, and then she says that the cake fee would depend on the server? In my opinion, extremely poor customer service. How about stand by your policy, be willing to find a solution, how about grateful that people are choosing to spend their special day and money at your restaurant. I've been going to Lavender for about 10 years while enjoying a 5 star experience for atmosphere, service and food. HOWEVER, this last season I've walked away with a much larger bill while being very dissatisfied with the quality of food. I'll leave it at that as they are closing for the summer.
