Decided on a second one, even better, got a good buzz going, so of course I had a third. By this time I forgot where I was. Stumbled out to get in my car to drive home...made it couple miles & crashed into...a cop car. I'm writing this from jail but I hope to be home for the weekend. We have been coming here for the last 5 years to celebrate our anniversary and unfortunately this time was the biggest let down. We were served cold crab cakes, a burrata salad (literally had two slivers of burrata on it, a shrimp cocktail that tasted over cooked and old (costcos is waaaay better) my salmon came out on such a hot plate that it took me by surprise especially when I went to take a bite and it was completely raw in the middle. It was not only raw but had a very unpleasant smell and taste. Even though our waiter was very nice and offered to have it remade we had to ask for our check because it had turned my stomach. read more

YELP SHORT ANSWER: maybe, if you're visiting and curious or a guest at the resort with credits, then yes. If it a great experience. If you're part of a conference and on an expense account then for sure. Locals maybe not so much. LOCATION: none better this. Everything is dialed and beautiful on this property. FACILITY: first class as well as the staff here. It truly is extraordinary. MENU: excellent choices as long as you don't look to the right at the prices. Order what you want but set your expectations correctly. You're at a resort. FOOD PREP: it was very nice but nothing special for my visit. However I did remind myself again, I was at a resort... it looked okay but under delivered platting for the prices charged, just food on a dish. FOOD QUALITY: we ordered a filet and the gnocchi, both resort priced. 8oz Filet was cooked consistent MR but was tasteless meat. No sear flavor at all. The gnocchi was kind of a mess but in the grand scheme of things, it was just food and money so we enjoyed ourselves and did not complain. LIBATIONS: wow, expensive! WAITSTAFF: again, exceptional service and kindness. OVERALL VALUE: if I was on an expense account I would not care but the Morgan's experience is missing the mark for this local. Did meet the new GM who was awesome and he did indeed ask how things were, I did not want to engage in my opinion as the LQ Resort brand is way beyond my little opinion, I just hope he spends his money there and evaluates the equity. This must be a difficult position if our visit was indicative of other guest's experiences. TIP: maybe try the bar in Morgan's which is beautiful and expensive, then escape and enjoy the outdoors bar for a fun $14 margarita and take it all in. Excellent service, friendly and professional. The venue is sophisticated and music was 60s as one may expect from an establishment from a 1926 resort. Very relaxing. The food was exceptional, we had an Sunset Special, the 2 Course Prix Fixe and our party of 3 chose each different starter, they offered a chilled soup as the Farmer's Market Soup which my daughter enjoyed, my wife was very satisfied with the Crab Cakes and I thoroughly enjoyed the Garden of Root Salad with its variety of textures. For the main course we had the Faroe Island Salmon and the Beef Bourguignon, both were excellent. Highly recommend experiencing Morgan's when staying at La Quinta. read more

Had dinner here during a recent visit to the La Quinta resort. For food, we started with the Wagyu beef carpaccio. We found it to be kind of bland and weren't big fans of it. For our 6 year old daughter, we ordered her grilled cheese and fries which she really enjoyed. For entrees, my gf had the scallops and I had the ribeye. The scallops were cooked well and had pretty good flavor to it. The ribeye was pretty good and was cooked to a perfect medium rare. For sides we had the creamed corn and mushrooms. I wasn't a fan of the mushrooms but the creamed corn might have been my favorite thing we had. Service was excellent throughout the meal. It was pricey, but that is to be expected at a resort. No accountability and disrespectful staff Reservations at 730pm Seated at 8pm No waters until 830 and we immediately put in food orders since we notice slow service. Legit food doesn't come until 945pm. Some from our groups wanted to discuss concerns with manager and he refused to accept responsibility and told them to "go be seated before food gets cold" And "They should've never accepted our reservations." etc Rey was the manager and he completely dismissed and disrespected some of our wives. Afterwards the waiter got really disrespectful when we pulled him and the manager again for a chat. This time it was the husbands who spoke to them and the manager had a change of tone and demeanor. The property here is one of a kind. I didn't stay here at the resort but I did eat at the restaurant. The food was a bit pricey but every bite was more delicious than the last. The service was a little slow and got a few items wrong, it could have been a busy day or a new person. read more

Last week I had the good fortune of taking a long time friend to Morgan's in the desert. What a fantastic dining experience it was. We arrived at 6 o'clock with the same-day reservation, and we're seated in what we perceived to be the nicest table in the dining room, in quiet corner by the fireplace where we could catch up on our year since we'd last seen each other. Ordering King, salmon in the desert sounds like an odd choice, but we both selected it, and don't regret it at all. The numerous other things on the menu that look good, but when it arrived, the preparation of the salmon was perfection. Service was impeccable. Our waiter and his assistant were attentive, but not overbearing, and any request we had was accommodated. The vibe was relaxed and casual in a sophisticated, peaceful setting. An excellent counterpoint to the heat and hustle of the day we spent outside! Pricing was more than reasonable for our dining experience. I'd go back and have the salmon anytime! read more

I had forgotten how beautiful the La Quinta Resort really is! And how historic and beautiful Morgan's Restaurant is as well! The design is stunning and so tasteful. It has an understated elegance. The bar is perfect with the scenery and piano player to enjoy a cocktail before dinner. This is the kind of place that knows how to make a drink! I have to give Morgan's the highest rating, the food is unbelievable. Our service was top-notch. We had the best waiter, whose name was Saul. I highly recommend him and you should ask for him. He knows everything about the wine, the drinks, the food, the history of the building, interesting tidbits about famous people, etc. It made for such an enjoyable evening. Something to note, they have a special oven to roast the tomahawk steaks they offer as specials. We shared one with 4 of us and honestly we've never had a better steak. Ever! Our experience at Morgan's is extensive as we have frequently made La Quinta a destination spot to spend our time together in a relaxed environment. Unfortunately, Morgan's missed the mark on food and service two out of the three nights we spent at the bar. As a couple, we both found that our food and service suffered mightily on Monday and Tuesday during the memorial weekend holiday. We dined at Morgan's on Sunday and found Brian and the staff completely in control, executing at a high level, and making our experience completely satisfying. To be straightforward, we dropped $556.81 for two people over the course of three and a half hours. Then came Monday and Tuesday. Monday, our service at the bar was great, but the ribeye we ordered was over our requested medium rare by at least two temperatures. NOT GOOD. But-we wrote it off and forged ahead with our weekend thinking everyone has a 'bad night' occasionally. We tipped generously and made plans to return and try our hand at the $79 New York Lot 29 fancy steak we had on Sunday. We ordered the Brussel sprouts (with bacon and onion to boot) and were very optimistic about the meal. Our salad (burrata frisée) was terrific and our hopes were restored. Then, the steak and Brussel sprouts showed up. It quickly devolved from there. We requested medium rare, because who the hell eats beyond that on a beautiful piece of meat like the Lot 29 New York strip? The minute we cut into it, we knew that it had gone too far. Now, I can deal with an overcooked steak. What I can't deal with is being completely ignored by the bartender that decided that we were not worth checking in on during our dinner. At the end of the day, service and execution at the life blood of restaurants and hotels that require repeat customers to remain profitable. This experience, a 66.7% fail, will force us to reevaluate Morgan's and La Quinta as a whole for our future vacation decision. It is unfortunate because we love the are so much from a personal perspective. We traveled for the DFW area at great expense and were ultimately disappointed with this portion of our time spent at the resort. Pictures will tell the tale. Just okay: the vibe is nice and the outdoor dining is very cute with fire pits, lights, etc but there are kids everywhere at this resort so it can get a bit loud with kids running around. Service was friendly but they are really understaffed. Once our mains came it took several minutes to get utensils, which is a while for hot food, my husband had to go get them himself for us. As for the food: Carbonara Ravioli - super rich and tasty, you get two big ravioli which is perfect to share. Crab Cakes - small but decent, definitely taste the crab. Miso Jidori Chicken - best thing we ordered, cooked perfectly, tasty. Highly recommend! Ribeye - I think they forgot to salt it before cooking, it was extremely bland, it was cooked medium not medium rare as requested. You can definitely get a better ribeye in the desert for the cost. I've seen several reviews of the steak dishes lacking flavor, seems to be a theme. Overall a cool place to check out, friendly staff, but wouldn't return. read more

I could not ask for anything to be better regarding the service. My issue is the food for this price point for this type of ambulance for this type of service. The food is definitely a letdown. I've been here a few different times and the food is just always OK to good never great. We had to pay for bread service, which is fine but it's a pretty small little loaf and there's nothing really that special about it. We had the French onion soup, the wedge salad side of mushroom side of mashed potatoes, the ginger corn, three ribeyes, one filet mignon, a pasta special, the profiteroles for dessert and the chocolate crème brûlée. Mastros has much better cuts of meat. Sides were pretty small and nothing really stood out. The mushrooms were the best of them. Mashed potatoes were pretty boring, ginger corn wasn't that good. Nothing stood out the French onion soup was watery didn't have enough cheese. The wedge salad didn't have enough dressing. The steaks were all good but not great again masters LG's has better cuts. If this place stepped up their food game, they could be the best steakhouse in the desert easily with their ambience and service already top-notch. There was a pianist who was doing great singing. Overrated. The food and the service were awful and way overpriced. If you're looking for a great meal, choose the Cliffhouse. I ordered the filet at both restaurants and the Cliffhouse meal was far superior. The drinks and desserts were even better at Cliffhouse. Two other tables were seated after us. Orders were placed at the other tables before we placed ours and the other tables left while we were waiting to order desserts. Last, the Cliffhouse bill came to $260, Morgan's came to $460. read more

One of our favorite places to celebrate any occasion- New years, birthdays, anniversaries, friends and family. The food never disappoints. The cocktails, wine, attentive service, the atmosphere, the whole vibe is happy, laid back and joyful. Sometimes it's even nice to eat dinner in the bar area and be more social. We've even enjoyed dinner outside near the fire pit with our fur babies. Located at the La Quinta Resort which is fairly busy year round. If you don't have reservations they will serve you at the bar or in the bar area. Piano bar with local talent and a nice mix of tourists and locals all there to enjoy themselves. read more

Disappointing Dining Experience...Looks Better Than It Tastes. I came to Morgan's in the Desert with high hopes, bringing my wife and seven guests to celebrate the an end-of-year faculty retreat. While the ambiance was exactly what you'd expect from a hotel restaurant...classy, calm, and well-designed...the food unfortunately didn't live up to the setting. We ordered a variety of dishes, including the filet mignon and the potato gnocchi, which both fell flat. My wife found them unappetizing, and the flavor just wasn't there. One guest enjoyed the short rib, which was a small highlight, but overall, the group was extremely disappointed. The food lacked the boldness and quality you'd expect from a place that markets itself as a fine dining experience. That said, the service was warm and attentive. Our waitress was kind, professional, and made the evening feel hospitable despite the culinary letdown. The pictures and reviews we saw online promised a standout experience, but what we received was unfortunately very mid. I won't be returning with guests, and I can't recommend Morgan's for anyone looking to impress with the food. It's a beautiful space, but it needs to taste as good as it looks. read more

I have visited La Quinta 3 times and never made it to Morgan's and the was a mistake. The entrance is beautiful and the ambiance is cozy and elevated. I enjoyed my experience so much, I went 2 days in a row. Both of my servers were knowledgeable and friendly. The 2nd day when I dined alone, my server gave me just the right amount of attention without being overbearing. I find that servers are often super chatty when you're alone and it's just nice to have a quiet meal :) First night I had the Filet with Point Reyes Blue Cheese Crust, spinach and mashed potatoes. All so good! The second night I had the filet again with just Mac & cheese. The filet was cooked to perfection, perfectly seasoned and the blue cheese took it to the next level. The mashed potatoes I could have done without, but the Mac & cheese and spinach were top notch. The bread basket was things dreams are made of. Great variations of breads and they're nice and warm. My martini was perfectly shaken with no ice chips and the olives were crispy and flavorful. I don't know when I will be back to the hotel, but I do know I won't lodge there without booking Morgan's again. read more

We had a wonderful meal thanks to Abdiel who not only helped us have a long relaxing meal but also an excellent meal that was adjusted for my dairy allergies. We enjoyed the curried cauliflower, crab cakes, and lemon pepper salad for appetizers. For our dinner, we enjoyed the ribeye, New York strip, and braised short ribs for dinner. Make sure to enjoy the Turnbull wine with your meal. For dessert, we enjoyed the salted caramel martini, chocolatini, and old fashioned.
