Went with a friend on Saturday for brunch and it was not good. I ordered Eggs Benedict and it was really disappointing. The eggs are supposed to be poached but they were solid like hard boiled eggs so the whole thing was so dry. The muffins are served dry so I had to ask for extra hollandaise to make it palatable. There is plenty of sunlight and fresh air. The vibe is comfortably casual: you could roll in dressed to the 9s and absolutely own it while sipping mimosas from the full bar, or show up a little pale with bedhead after a long night, grab a hair of the dog Bloody and not get a second glance or side-eye. We called ahead and were quickly seated when we arrived. Waters were filled, menus were dealt, and we were given an appropriate amount of time before ordering. The staff checked in regularly, and our food arrived within a comfortable timeframe. Overall the service was solid. The menu is nicely diverse with enough variety to satisfy just about anyone. Plus there are a few hidden gems for those willing to stray from the usual standards. We went for the road less traveled with the Tamale & Eggs (go pork) and the Pastrami Dog. Both of those were winners! The homestyle cooking really shines here, not just in flavor but in the generous portions. One dish that didn't quite land for me was the Gazpacho. Knowing how laborious it can be to prepare, I was honestly surprised to see it on the menu. When I ordered it, I was asked if I wanted it with avocado and/or shrimp. I've always had it with avocado, and usually with shrimp. Anyway, I'll also admit I'm just a bit ;-) finicky when it comes to Gazpacho. The best versions rely on hand picked ingredients for the highest quality, careful balance, and enough time for the flavors to properly meld and develop. I can't speak to how this one was prepared, but it felt like it was missing the depth and integration that make a great gazpacho stand out. This place is well worth a visit. I like this place - it makes me feel like I'm on vacation (and I'm a local!) Nice shady courtyard off the street, with a fountain. Interesting menu, good welcoming service. But either the kitchen or the waitstaff need to step up their game. We had a Greek scramble and a French scramble - both arrived lukewarm. And they won't prepare scrambles as omelets - which most restaurants accommodate. Toast arrived warm but it was on cold (not lukewarm) plates. Toast cooled quickly, of course. Is the kitchen not heating the plates? Waitstaff (who usually prepares toast in most restaurants) not bothering to grab a heated plate? Separately, I wonder why this place has never turned up in my many Yelp searches once a month for "breakfast, Palm Desert"? We tried JC's only because we happened to get a parking spot right in front (we were going to another restaurant down the street,) and this one looked interesting. First time here and we were not impressed at all. My kids had the pancakes with fruit and they tasted like the frozen pancakes you put into the toaster;thankfully the fruit was on the fresher side. I got the avocado toast, it's literally a piece of store-bought grain bread with a lightly flavored aioli, a slice of tomato and slices of avocado with some sprouts on top(very plain and unthoughtful). Also had the 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad and once again, nothing to brag home about. My wife and daughter love JC's I've been there once before. Its has a small interior and many outdoor tables in front and back. They could use more than one restroom, lots of waiting. The service was attentive even though they were busy. The food was good. My wife had the chicken Walnut Salad and my daughter had the Steak House Salad. I had the Shrimp Louie Salad. I've been here a handful of times with my husband. It's a hidden gem towards the back of El Paseo's main drag. Food and service have been spot on and the servers are very friendly. I've tried the quiche, Crab Benedict, various omelets, and they are all fresh and delicious. The patio seating is the way to go. I highly recommend coming here. Okest of ok. We wanted a brunch place and decided to give this place a try. Service was really fast and friendly but the food was subpar and on the higher end. I got the Greek scramble with fruit and sourdough bread. The eggs were very under seasoned. I felt like the only salt was from the feta and they were pretty light on the cheese. I could have used triple the amount. The spinach in the scramble was nicely cooked. The sourdough was a nice thick piece and they give both butter and jam with it. read more

My wife and I came here while visiting Palm Springs for Spring Break. I read all the great reviews prior so I was throughly excited to eat here definitely. We were pleasantly greeted and immediately seated outside. The hostess was very accomodating. We received great suggestions from our waitress when we were ready to order. Although everything was not exactly the way that I needed my food to be, the manager was very professional and considerate of the issues when brought forth. He was understanding and empathetic. I appreciate that as a customer. We felt very valued. My wife enjoyed her food. We both enjoyed our Apple Juice Mimosas. We would most certainty recommend this spot. Came here on a Saturday morning for breakfast and really enjoyed it. The only thing that is rough is the lack of seating for this wonderful place. We had mimosas to start, which were normal as expected and our server gave us the option of 2 different juices but they were in small serving. I ordered the pork tamales and eggs, which was hands down the best option! The tamales were so fresh and the masa was light and fluffy and so flavorful. I asked the server and she shared that they get them from a place in Indio (which I will have to visit next time we are in the area). Not a good experience at JC's Cafe yesterday morning. We were looking for a new place to try for breakfast while visiting the area. When seated, we asked our hostess what she recommended. She didn't really answer our question and gave us a generic everything is good type of response. When we got our water, I don't know if it's because we just aren't used to it, but the water tasted like the worst tap water. I just didn't drink it. When our server came to take our order, we ordered 2 tropical teas. My husband asked her if the beans that came with the tamale breakfast were any good. She told us that they came from a can and weren't very good. We appreciated the honesty, and my husband went with the frittata with a side of potatoes instead. That was the end of our good service. Our server did not come back until the end of our meal. My husband did not get the potatoes he ordered and was given fruit instead. Our iced teas also never came. We finished our meal and when our server finally came to check on us, we informed her that we never got our drinks or potatoes. She apologized and took my husband's breakfast off the bill, which we appreciated. I am not giving it 1 star because my breakfast wasn't bad, the bacon was lean and crispy, and the half waffle was pretty good, although a bit too sweet. My husband, however, did not care for his frittata. It was a pretty small slice for the price. Our server was friendly, but we only saw her twice during our entire meal (when she took our order and when we were finished). Not sure if we just went on an "off" day, but based on our experience, I wouldn't recommend or return to JC's Cafe. read more

JC's is an easy restaurant to review: Here is what I liked: 1. The food here is delicious. I had an egg white veggie scramble with potatoes. I can't imagine someone getting a bad breakfast egg dish here. 2. Employees work very hard here, are efficient and responsive to your table needs. Notice that I did not say friendly--they work hard and focused here--friendly only if they have time. 3. On the very busy day I dined here--it took 30 minutes for the food to come out. That's reasonable. 4. They have about 5 seats at the bar to sit if you are dining alone. I talked with 2 other friendly customers who were regulars here at the bar. 5. Parking is free and easy. What I did not like: 1. The portion sizes are small. They are fine for an 80 lb petite yoga girl, but not a guy that burns food like a Ford F350 burns gasoline. The egg scramble need to be 25% larger to fill the tank on this Manly Man or 25% less expensive. 2. I had a fresh shirt on, and by the end of the meal it stunk from grease. And it stunk the next day too--could not wear it again after this meal until laundry. The ventilation inside is poor. They need to punch a hole in the ceiling and install a strong industrial exhaust fan in the dining area. The employees would appreciate that too. The kitchen may need better exhaust too. You can smell the grease the minute you enter--I did not want to sit outside alone--it was also cold. I could have come back here the next day with my party but I did not want to stink from grease and leave hungry again. Those are the only 2 problems. read more

Crap service from the second we walked up to the hostess. When we approached her she literally turned around and walked away after looking me dead in the eye. Once she returned, we waited for a table even though there were four tables that were cleared and wide open the whole time we were waiting there. Once we got a table, our server was MIA for 15 minutes, we were able to get drinks after someone else noticed that we had been sitting around for a while. Once our waiter showed up and took our order, we didn't get anything for over 45 minutes, once we had had enough of sitting around and watching people who were seated and got food well after we showed up and asked to get the check for only the drinks we were served did our food miraculously show up. There was never a sorry about the wait or anything. The food was ok but the service was terrible. Would never recommend this place. read more

Absolute disappointment from the beginning to the end. First of all, they had an attitude which I'm not sure why, the place was full and we just asked for any table even if it's outside. I definitely felt they treated us differently. Majority of the patrons here were older white folks... Since we were already here and a group of 5, we didn't want to waste time finding another place so we stayed. We got seated in the front of the restaurant (2 tables only and it was all Asians). We ordered the food and I kid you not, we waited 40 minutes for it. If you ask me, 40 minutes for badly scrambled eggs with processed meat shouldn't take this long along with some potatoes. Frustrated and confused, we all wondered if they were understaffed or they just forgot our order. I asked the bus boy in Spanish where our food was bc by now, we were in a rush. He went inside to check w the waitress and another 10 minutes later, the food came out. I got a burger which was underwhelming except for the brioche bun which was soft. The saddest thing was the scrambled eggs. It had a few pieces of the little frozen breakfast sausages (like the Jimmy Deans) and some pieces of ham. This was supposed to be meat lovers scramble. The chili also had some rough meat in it, u couldn't figure out if it was beef or turkey or other mystery meat. TL;DR: Delicious food, Great Ambiance on the Patio or inside seating. If it gets too hot & sunny, your waiter will open a colorful umbrella for you. Everyone seems to love their job & happily serving their customers here. How refreshing. We'll definitely be back! I got the special of Corn Beef hash & Eggs with a side of fruit & toast. Loved it. The toast is even served with a nice assortment of marmalades and jams. Yum! Rebecca was so sweet & served us along with everyone else working as a team when they passed by and saw a need. They even graciously served a couple that was sitting near us that told them they had to be out of there in 35 minutes. Rebecca made it happen & didn't flinch at the request. Isn't it nice to get a server that doesn't give you attitude even if it is possibly warranted? Love it! I didn't get the names of the other two helpful gals but my coffee was always hot & full. There are other creamer options if you don't do milk like me... The Oat Creamer was warmed & it was delicious in the coffee. Hubby had the Fritatta, I had a small bite & it was so tasty. If you get the plate with eggs ,bacon, and French toast it's not enough for a hearty eater. Will go back to try the sandwich's because they look amazing. read more

We discovered this place during COVID era! They were awesome ! Nice patio ambiance and great place to eat. Today I stopped in with my old coworker friend - I had a very good cappuccino and the Greek scramble with gluten free toast! Excellent ! We stayed rather long and they booted us out .. lol but that's okay we understand we just had a lot of catching up to do over the good food. Service is slow but we didn't mind we enjoyed the time . What a sad day. This was my favorite brunch spot but my experience today changed everything. I always come here and recommend it to everyone and was so excited to show my friend my favorite place. I love the ambiance and I usually love to get the tamale & egg but wanted to try something different this time. Our server, Kristina R was not good at all. I am not sure if she had an off day or something but her service was not there and it felt like she was ignoring us on purpose. She checked in on us once like 15 minutes after we received our food. I had to ask 3 different people (other than Kristina) for a new glass of water because there was black stuff floating at the bottom of my cup. My second glass had the same issue, after the third person I asked brought it to me so I didn't drink water at all. I asked a gentleman for a fan fly (since our server never came to check on us) and never got it. I ordered the machaca scramble and it literally was three eggs with two pieces of meat (I've had a better machaca scramble at goodys, so good you should try it there) with no flavor. I added salt but that didn't even help, luckily the salsa helped give it flavor. I'm so bummed cause I love JC's so much and it wasn't even busy today like it usually is so there's no excuse. Looks like I have to find a new brunch spot now. read more
