Live music (Thu-Sun with dual piano). Not sure if there's live music on other nights. Went there alone as w female solo vacationer. LOVE Palm Desert--first stay here. Stayed at the Mojave Resort (wonderful spot with amazing beds) and they recommended this restaurant. The musicians are excellent. EXCELLENT. Food was okay. We probably come into Kitchen 86 about 3 times per month. I enjoy their brunch items haven't had a bad experience yet. We also go often during happy hour can't go wrong with their fungi pizza especially at $10 as as well as the boom boom shrimp although I believe that's a slightly smaller portion still well worthwhile. We have a couple of salads that are fantastic, and my son enjoys a few of their pasta dishes. I think the only thing that we haven't tried yet are the steaks although I did try the pork chop once it was phenomenal. Cocktails are reasonable. We've had a few that were better than others. This is one area of opportunity for consistency. Mostly though we like that we can go at any time and they always have multiple items that we enjoy whereas most of our other places we get the same thing 80% of the visit read more

Made a reservation over the phone w "one of the partners" (whose accent and delivery could recognise from his local pure sports radio spots) "outdoors for nine people" days before last night and the hostess said upon arrival "I have you inside over there" so rolled-with-the-unexpected-flow towards that table under the TV near the restrooms which chemicals you could smell from the table. We made the best of it but would have preferred to be outside as the original plan for the res. It was almost if the staff was too lazy to setup "nine outdoors". Service was great (gave an extra hundy over the 20% large group charge) and food/drinks were pretty good, but won't be back due to the neglection-in-attention-to-detail laissez-faire delivery. We came in to watch The World Cup. There was no sound, but they quickly turned it up when I asked. The drinks were good, can't go wrong with their $5 Tito's special. We had the Boom Boom Shrimp, which my son liked, but seemed like a smaller portion than what they used to serve off the regular menu. We later ordered the buffalo wings (they were out of buffalo sauce) so we got the Asian inspired hot sauce. It was good on the side. We also got a burger lettuce wrapped off the happy hour menu. I was good, but not quite worth the $12 we paid (no sides).We also got the pork tostadas, which we have had before and always enjoyed, but today they were Lacking any seasoning. Had Sunday brunch here this morning. We definitely will be back next time we're in town. Our server, Miguel was friendly and attentive. Our table ordered the 86 Steak sandwich, the Club sandwich, a Scramble di Manzo, and I had Avocado toast. Everyone loved their meals. The avocado toast was delicious, but a little too spicy, so I probably would not order that again. Recommend! read more

The food was good very heavy. They have different varieties from salad, to bang bang shrimp, to pizza. The decors was so cute with all the year of 1986 vibe. So it is a place where you want to have a good time. We found out the owner was also from Michigan. The drinks were good . Restaurant/ Cafe/ and Sports Bar rolled into one!! Great lunch place on the upscale shopping strip in Palm Desert. Lots of Sports broadcast on numerous TVs throughout the restaurant. We had a lot of great food and personal pizza served by a very diligent and caring waitress! Wanted to go here for dinner or brunch,but didn't have enough days during our stay. Service was great, the staff is super friendly. It's a darker atmosphere with TV's to show sports games if you're trying to watch, this is a great place for that. There is a pretty large menu with lots of options, for adults and kids. They have mocktail menu for kids and sober friends. read more

Met a client and he recommended this place, the waiter told us the owner owned 39 dominos so clearly pizza was his thing. Waiter Highly recommend "Breakfast Pizza" and it's not what you would assume eggs on pizza crust, there was no eggs at all however it was excellent! What I also loved was the pizza isn't heavy it's thin so you don't walk away feeling bloated. Location was clean service was friendly no issues at all. I would 100% come back. read more

Breakfast on Sunday seem like they don't have enough staff, the food is not hot, they premade the Potato, we got scramble egg and Vegetarian omelette, why they give small glass of water if they can't get back to refill it. We didn't drink mimosas because we have to drive. Our waitress looked like actor his name Josh, I told him that he looks like Actor from Hot Tub Time Machine, he blushed. It was too hot and too long of a day for a full meal so we split the beat salad (better than most as larger and thicker slices). Lower rating for two reasons. (1) Reception- why do you need 2-3 people to address one patrons problem when you have other patrons waiting...in the heat?!? Poorly managed, myopic view. (2) Fungi pizza - Chef ruined it with a sweet (Alfredo style?) base sauce. Overpowering, sweet top note. Almost me ill afterwards!! Use complementary flavors like EVOO with roasted garlic spread or with hint of hickory or applewood oil or EVOO with light brushing of fire roasted red peppers. Would be so much better. read more

Gina at Kitchen 86 was absolutely divine. we loved everything she suggested from the Bread to the Brussel sprouts to the dish referred to as chicken 'bam bam' also, this bread is not simply bread it's cheesed out to the max and reads as full on pizza. Share these items with several bottles of Sauvignon Blanc and you'll be right as rain for the day. read more

I was surprised how much I liked this place on El Paseo. The Boom Boom Shrimp is a must. My husband and I shared a salad and a pizza that as soon as it came to our table we dug right in (no pic taken). The Mexican Bee Sting cocktail was perfectly crafted. Really enjoyed this place! read more

In the grand tapestry of dining experiences, there are those that delight the senses and those that leave you questioning your life choices. Unfortunately kitchen 86 landed in the latter category in an unexpected evening. We arrived to the hostess table and were promptly greeted with warm smiles which seemed to be a promise of great things to come as we were almost immediately seated at a cute cozy booth close to the dueling pianos (one of whom I was a friend of and excited to see perform that evening). The booth was clean and featured a cute candle flickering away beneath a giant pizza wall art! Little did we know that this was the best service (and only service) we would see that night. After perusing the menu, which boasted an array of tantalizing dishes from artisanal pizzas to gourmet pastas, we eagerly awaited our server to take our order. Minutes turned into what felt like an eternity while we watched as other tables around us were served with steaming plates of food, laughter, and clinking glasses, while we sat in our own bubble of neglect. The atmosphere, once inviting, began to feel like a cruel joke. Failed attempts at flagging down one of the MANY staff running around for SOME sort of service but to no avail. We had long since finished browsing the menu at length picking out appetizers, drinks, entrees, pizzas..... but still nothing. The night was carrying on but unfortunately the performance and feast of music was not enough to satisfy our hunger. So finally after over 30 minutes of sitting... waiting.... And trying our best to be patient we felt defeat. The once empty quiet table next to us had new guests who were seated and greeted by an eager and attentive server who began to take their drink and food order while we sat waiting still. At 34 mins we made the decision to give up and seek sustenance elsewhere leaving our cozy table... not that any of the staff noticed. In conclusion our experience at kitchen 86 was nothing short of an epic tragedy. I left with an empty stomach and a full heart of disappointment. If you're in the mood for a meal that never arrives, this may just be the place for you. Otherwise, I recommend seeking out an establishment and skipping this Kitchen "404" . read more

We had the pleasure of dining here last night, and it was truly an amazing experience. The establishment was quite busy, so I would highly recommend making a reservation. We were fortunate to secure a table by arriving early, and the hostess was exceptionally gracious. We chose to sit on the patio, which offered a delightful atmosphere and allowed us to appreciate the beauty of El Paso street. Our server, Michael, was outstanding. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and thoroughly explained the menu, going above and beyond, which is a rare and commendable quality these days. The food was simply amazing; everything from the appetizers to the lamb chop and the beet salad was excellent. The pizza was fantastic, the shrimp scampi was delicious, the salmon was perfectly prepared, and the chicken dish was also delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed every dish, and our compliments go to the chef. This is undoubtedly an amazing restaurant, and they truly deserve a Michelin star or similar recognition. Had their blackberry pizza. Not overly sugary sweet. With bacon, it balanced out. However instead of apricot cheese, a non favored alternative would have been better. Nice place located on El Paseo. There's a nice outdoor seating area and some seats inside. There's a bar in the middle and some lower tables and booths with a big screen that was showing a football game. The lighting was pretty moody and there was a piano covered in the middle of the room so maybe they have live music sometimes? I came with my husband for their happy hour which is 12-5 Monday- Thursday and 3-5 on Friday- Sunday. We made it just in time and there weren't a lot of people in the restaurant. Service was okay. We got our food brought to us along with water and a carafe but other than that we weren't checked in on often. I didn't really mind though because we didn't need much and might've been out of the way tucked away from other parties. We ordered pizza and the steak. I was pretty disappointed in the portion size but maybe because it was from the happy hour menu it was a bit smaller. The steak was a good cut of meat but a little too sweet for my liking. The pizza was just pepperoni but the crust was actually really good. It tasted almost like garlic bread. There were other options on the happy hour menu that might've been worth it to try but I'm not sure I would come back here or would recommend others come. Kitchen 86 has always been one of our go-to spots when hosting guests in Palm Desert, so we chose it for both dinner and brunch during a recent three-day visit with six important family members. Dinner was good -- creative dishes, a strong vegan menu, and overall enjoyable (though we were disappointed not to get the outdoor seating we requested). Brunch, however, was deeply disappointing. Despite advertising "the best brunch in town," the food was average and the portions were shockingly small. The veggie omelet looked like a scramble, came with a minimal amount of potatoes, and no toast or fruit to complete the plate. My Nova Lox plate was missing the expected tomatoes and proper onion slices, and the fruit garnish consisted of just a few grapes and tiny pieces of pineapple. For a brunch meal -- often the only meal before dinner -- it felt skimpy and underwhelming. Our server, Gina, was excellent and attentive, and we truly appreciated her. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to Kitchen 86's reputation, and we left very disappointed. read more

I went on a Friday night with my aunt. We sat outside and we were glad it wasn't too hot out. As someone who doesn't drink, I'm glad they have mocktails. Our waiter was friendly and knows the menu very well. We shared brussel sprouts (without the bacon, as I'm vegetarian.) My aunt had the Scampi Borracho, there was a little kick to it that she liked. I had the margherita pizza and as someone who loves NYC pizza, this one is fairly good and the crust is good. I can't wait to try more! read more

Honestly it was just OK. Thought we'd have a nice meal for my husband's birthday. Let them know ahead of time but they just skipped it. Super disappointing. (Although they celebrated with the table next to us.) We ordered the Kitchen 86 bread - not what we expected but it was fairly tasty. We got Blackberry Pizza, BBQ Chicken pizza, Penne Vodka and Chicken Piccata with linguine- that was the best dish at the table. It was all on the positive side of mid. The thing that really was frustrating was that we got our food but had to wait 5 minutes for silverware. We sat outside with the heat lamps, it was nice. Nice view of the decorated street. Maybe it's a place to come later at night for drinks but wasn't the right place for our birthday celebration. First timers! I booked a reservation a week in advance to treat my brother for his birthday.so I requested a booth & or a table close to entertainment or bar and that request wasn't even made. Putting that aside; the restaurant was very artistic and eye catching inside with plenty of booth, table, and bar seats. Our waiter came right over and was very friendly with open suggestions for appetizers and entrees. Food and drinks were great! The live performance started shortly after we arrived and it was so much fun with a live pianist the entire restaurant was having fun! I'll definitely be back. A group of four of us came into this restaurant on Thursday night. We were looking for a restaurant that was open late and had good food. Kitchen 86 definitely delivered on the good food! Three of us ordered salads with salmon...which was cooked to perfection!! I will be dreaming about that salmon until I have again! Our server was fantastic! In fact, it was his idea to order the salmon... Thank you! What was unexpected to us was they had a dueling piano entertainment. There were a couple of tables who were super engaged with the performers. We even lucked out and had a surprise performer in the audience who performed one guest song. So fun! Didn't have to wait and chose to sit outside. All the staff seemed friendly and in good spirits. This restaurant had a lounge vibe is surrounded by shopping and art galleries. All the food we ordered are in the photos I posted. My beet salad was fresh not a lot of greens but just enough to eat with my chicken breast. I tried some of the pow wow chicken and waffles, which is really tasty. The noodles my kids had were OK but the pizza was great! I really liked how they had a few selection of Mocktail drinks, I had the Red Bull one it was ok. Overall I would come back to try more dishes. read more
