    Combo oxtail and chicken large

The plate was not a large, my plate looks more like a small. The rice was overcooked and mushy I never expertise in a Caribbean restaurant. No jerk sauce on the chicken but it was tender.

I have had Oxtails before but nothing aside from my regular Caldo de Res. This is not the typical fork and knife type of dish, it requires finger-licking, bone-sucking to really enjoy the flavors and deliciousness of the meat. I ordered ahead for takeout, food was ready upon arrival. I was greeted with a smile by person at the counter. Quite nice place to enjoy the meal while listening to reggae music they have playing, very nice.

I ordered takeout recently, and while the service was solid, the food was a bit of a mixed bag. The biggest letdown was the oxtail--it just wasn't tender or very flavorful. However, the sides saved the meal; the rice and cabbage were really good, and the Jamaican patty was excellent. The jerk chicken was also very tasty, though it was a little spicier than I usually like. The ambiance inside isn't anything special, but for a quick takeout spot, the service makes it an easy stop--I'd just stick to the chicken and patties next time.

Had to bump up those stars since my last visit! I bought my daughter and granddaughter here. Customer service was on point today! Money was worth what was bought. My daughter wished her combination plate had more oxtail (2 reg PC and 2 small pc). My plate had adequate portions. But she said this will be her new spot for a restaurant treat. I'm glad that I do not live really close. Because I would be here A LOT.

Stopped here at lunch time. They have a $10 lunch special M-Th. Beware: They charge a 2% service fee if you pay by credit card. I got the curry chicken lunch special. It was good and the cooked cabbage was excellent.. The beans and rice were OK but I really liked the plantains. The pieces of chicken were mostly bone and it was difficult to get the meat off without getting curry sauce all over yourself. For $10 though it's a good deal. Even meal combos at McDonald's are over that. I got one of their homemade ginger drinks ($7) and it was fabulous. To take home for dinner, I got 2 beef pies, 1lb of jerk chicken, and 16oz red bean soup ($5). The soup had FANTASTIC flavor ! The main complaint I have is that they put the soup in just a Styrofoam cup with a lid like I was taking home a soda. The lid broke on the way home inside the bag and soup got all over. I had about 3/4 left when I got home. Not many beans, chicken, or veggies in the soup, but the flavor is so good I would get it again. However, they need to give you a tall plastic soup container if you get it to go. They will give you scotch bonnet peppers on request. I'll be back to try some of their homemade desserts.

This restaurant is no joke. It's not my fraternak Jamaican grandparents' cooking, but I won't take that away from them. Servings are large and filling. I ordered brown stew chicken. It's missing scotch bonnet in the recipe. Not a ding against them, though. The "grown people" sorrel had enough kick to it that I waited until I was at my hotel suite before drinking it. Big ups for outstanding service. I had passed on several recommendations for a few other Jamaican restaurants and I'm glad I took a chance going to Lawrence.

This spot is A1 -- so ignore the haters who wrote a review out of spite! Like I almost didn't come here bc of some of the negative comments!! IM SO GLAD I WENT TO TRY MYSELF! I grabbed 2 large oxtails plates and 2 beef patties for take out for my gf bday! Man was it good!! I haven't had authentic Jamaican food in a long time! The beef patties could use a bit more meat but they are fresh and homemade!!! Like what?! Oxtails has bones in it bc IT COMES WITH BONES. if you ever had oxtails you know some pieces are better than others. Period. It was $70 but well spent. Y'all spend that much at chain restaurants w/ no problem. Go support these people man. They out here doing their thing! My gf was sooooo happy! Thank you!!! Thank you Thank you!!! Will be back!

The jerk chicken ( not spicy sauce on side) and brown stew chicken is always great. Everything is always fresh whether you order dine in or carry out. Not really a fan of the plantains unless they are fresh most times they are dry. My three year old love the cabbage but today unfortunately the cabbage was raw I mean you can hear the crunch with every bite. But still flavorful I must add. I think online orders placed through (door dash/ Uber Eats) are portioned differently than in person orders but that's just my personal opinion. I will be ordering again soon the location is very close to my home.

GOAT was tender and I added a likkle pepper sauce to turn up the flavor even more. Fire !!! I should have gotten white rice but whatever the rice and peas was still good. Plantain were perfect and sweet. No hard. Not over ripe. Fried nice. The only thing I can say as a critique is to have some more D&G soda flavors. Cream soda and kola are my go to! The cook came out and watched me take my first taste. He was kind as well as all the other staff (IYKYK...attitude be wild at some West Indian spots lmao). Overall I was very pleased with the food and the folks!

I will start by saying that this place is now serving dog food. The food was absolutely disgusting…read more- everything was hard, dry, and burnt, including the cake! Absolutely zero "F's" were given in the food preparation. The textures were appalling, as if the food had been scorched and then left out for hours before serving. The only remotely edible thing was the cold, burnt plantains, but even those were barely tolerable. I kept biting into gritty bits that I couldn't even identify as food, which made me seriously question the safety of what I was eating. If I had access to a lab, I would submit it to see what I'd [really] been served. I ended up throwing my entire meal in the garbage. To top it off, they've changed the name of the place, which just raises even more red flags. I can't help but wonder why they felt the need to do that. It's a waste of money, time, hope and food to ever go here. They disrespected the life of the poor chicken who died for this wretched soot seasoned, curry chicken slop. If my husband or anyone suggested this place I would seriously consider throwing hands. It doesn't matter what they are calling it now. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from this place.

Since moving to the Carolina's from up North I wasn't sure what to expect. I've have both dined in as well as carry out and the experience is always pleasant. I've had a few things from the menu but my favorite is the oxtail roti; It's a bit costly but well worth it as the meat is super tender, flavorful and the roti is pack full of meat. I also love the rice/ peas with the brown gravy and drinks are always phenomenal I've learned depending on the time of day you may be waiting for a bit but it's well worth it as everything is fresh, hot and made to order. The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. She kindly let us know what items were sold out for the day and also gave us time to look over the menu and decide on our order without making us feel rushed. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. What we ordered: - Small Jerk Chicken plate with rice & peas and cabbage - Jerk Chicken pasta - Side order of Macaroni and cheese We wish we lived closer, so we could visit Island Grill & Pub regularly, but it's definitely on our list any time we travel to the Rock Hill area!
