The restaurant is located in a shared community kitchen. You have the option to order at the location or online. Once I arrived, it took about 15 minutes for to bring it out and it was piping hot! Got back home and was able to try everything. I had the oxtails, white rice, mac and cheese and collard greens. The amount of food they provide for the price is completely worth it. The oxtails have a bit of a kick to it which I loved, very tender and seasoned well. The mac and cheese was cheesy and the collard greens with turkey was "chefs kiss"! Once we got home and opened our plates, we noticed one little hiccup -- the mac & cheese we ordered didn't make it into the bag. Sad moment... because if it was anything like the rest of the food, I know it would've been amazing. Now for the good stuff: everything we did get was absolutely superb. The flavors were bold, rich, and full of that Caribbean punch that makes you do a little dance with every bite. One of my favorite spots in Charlotte so I had to review them again. Similar to my last visit, this was another great experience in terms of service. I placed the order upon arriving at the restaurant instead of in advance and then went next-door to Taco Azul for a couple of beers while I waited. My entrées were ready in about 20 minutes. I ordered the oxtail with oxtail fried rice and the jerk chicken with oxtail fried rice. Both were excellent as always! And something that I really appreciated about this spot. When my order came out, the owner asked that I check out each container to make sure it was to my satisfaction. That is usually something that takeout places don't encourage you to do, especially if they are passing on product that is not similar to what is displayed on their menu. Basically what we call a ghost kitchen. Me and a friend went on Juneteenth. A lot of the restaurants were closed but wanted to give them a try. My snapper was fried to perfection. If you don't trust this review, just look at their instagram page with thousands of followers, the line waiting outside of city kitch every time they're open, and the reason why you have to order ahead to even grab a plate here. They did not come to play and blew everyone out the water with their cheesesteaks and amazing portions. This place is easily a 10/10 and their prices are very fair for what you get. They are located in The City Kitch, a ghost kitchen, and you have to place your order online. They have items like fried salmon bites, jerk wings grilled or fried, curry chicken, oxtail fried rice, oxtail cheesesteaks, etc. It takes 30 minutes to an hour for your food so definitely order way ahead. When you get there, you go to a link online that is provided to tell them you are there. What I noticed and really appreciated was that they ask you to check your order while they stand and wait for you to so you can ensure everything is right. This was just a really nice gesture and shows they care about their service. They are most famously known for their iconic oxtail cheesesteak which is only $30. I remember seeing it on a viral twitter post and saying I was ready to pay $60 for it so this price was incredible to me. I got the oxtail cheesesteak a few months ago and was in love. It was so packed, flavorful, and tender. The mac and cheese was also amazing, just look at the picture. I had been wanting it for months before and finally getting it exceeded my expectations. I came back today and got the oxtail plate with rice and peas, mac and cheese, and collards with smoked turkey. I also got an order of fried jerk wings. The fried jerk wings are amazing. I really don't ever order wings out but I was tempted to try and ended up loving them. You can choose from different drizzles like jack daniels bbq, jerk sauce, sweet bbq, siracha mayo, etc. Also the homemade ranch was good. The oxtail plate is now easily at the top of my list for oxtail plates. They gave an extremely generous portion of them and they were perfect and fell off the bone. The food at Crav'n Caribbean was delicious -- to such a degree that I'd consider going again despite the setbacks. But the setbacks were serious. Crav'n is housed in a "ghost kitchen" type building. Employees of eight different restaurants prepare to-go meals in a single large, segmented kitchen in back, while customers wait in a large front room. To order, customers use IPad-type tablets hitched to metal armatures on the wall. All of this would be fine, *except* that Crav'n Caribbean has no employee regularly available in the front room to talk to customers, so if anything goes wrong in the kitchen, there's no quick way for customers to know. Today, after a friend and I arrived at Crav'n and ordered our meal at a wall tablet, we joined about 15 other diners in the front room, waiting for their own food. We learned they'd been waiting for more than an hour (!) -- due to a delay in the back kitchen which no one could explain. Nobody even knew how we could cancel our orders, and we'd all paid, so we were all stuck. Only after about half an hour did a Crav'n staffer finally emerge to tell us that Crav'n was both understaffed today and filling a single huge order (for some large function), so other orders could not be serviced till it was finished. About 45 minutes after that (1 hour 15 min after I'd ordered!), that single huge order was filled, and soon all the waiting customers' meals came out one by one, including ours. But by that time everyone was desperate. If Crav'n was going to accept a huge order that bottlenecked all other orders for more than an hour, they should have *stopped taking* other orders -- turn off online ordering, and for in-person diners put out a sign saying (for instance) "Apologies: service suspended until 5 PM." Instead, they simply let in-person diners continue to order with no warning of a delay, then get trapped in a long wait. I felt sympathetic for the chefs who were clearly spread thin by the huge order. And the food was still superb. But while I might want to come back, I'm not sure I dare. I've noticed that while Crav'n doesn't have a lot of bad reviews, those that exist are all from customers who came on a day with delays like this. Crav'n needs to have a plan in place for when they service a large order or are understaffed. It seems they don't. read more
