    Small Jerk Chicken

The food here is delicious. I love the oxtails but I decided to get the jerk chicken with rice and peas and collard greens. The chicken was tender with a semi spicy jerk sauce. The rice and peas was so yummy and the greens were seasoned well. I also ordered a ginger lemonade which is refreshing with a kick of ginger! The service was fast and the customer service good! Update: 2025 The food is STILL delicious with great service. They changed the inside some from when I first posted but this restaurant is definitely a must when visiting Rock Hill! I would recommend this restaurant

Picked this spot because I was craving some Jamaican food. I love jerk chicken(it's one of my favorite meals). Anywho, it was a fast service that served generous portions. Both me and my dad had food for the next day. I loved it when one of the gentleman checked on us to see if we enjoyed our food and gave us a dressing that he recommended. I could tell this is a place that cares for their customers!

My husband and I were on our way back home from a day trip. We decided to get something to eat and look for someplace nearby on Yelp. The iIsland Grill and Pub was one of the suggestions and we like Jamaican food so we decided to give it a try. I am so happy we did! And the decor is a bit spare, but does remind you of a restaurant you would actually find in Jamaica. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady, who helped us to make choices from the menu. A couple of the items that we wanted were not available that day. My husband decided to order an ox tail dinner. I ordered an order of collard greens, in order of cabbage, and a small order of red pea soup. Food arrived hot and smelling delicious. The owner made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the food. And enjoy it we did! This is probably one of the best Jamaican meals I have had! The red pea soup was quite delicious with adequate amounts of oxtail and beef. It was seasoned perfectly. Afterwards, I really wished I had gotten a large order so that I could bring some home. I really enjoyed the dumpling at the bottom of the soup. My husband said that the oxtails were so good that he is anxiously waiting for us to eat here again.

Cool island vibes and vegan offerings. Staff was helpful with vegan choices. We ended up with jerk tofu, plantains, and rice and beans. All yummy. (They we're out of curry chickpeas but if we are ever in the area again we'll try to order those). Ginger lemonade has a real kick -- so good. The jerk tofu was not spicy at all, despite other reviews indicating that it would be. Still had great flavor though. Portions are HUGE. As someone who eats A LOT, I couldn't finish the small. Soooo much rice.

Good food the only thing was collard greens was lacking flavor. Wings were seasoned well & oxtails were tender. Service was someone friendly as she was very nice while asking questions but in a hurried manner. Overall she was nice. The decor was traditionally what you find in these establishments. It could definitely use a deep clean overall. Would recommend however

This food was soo good and flavorful! I love me some oxtails but can't eat them from Most restaurants cause it's too spicy! This was just right! The rice was perfect not hard or too soogy! We live in Charlotte so it was not around the corner but we will most certainly be back!! Let me not forget the cabbage...it was perfection not over cooked at all!!

The food is amazing! We were so indecisive of what to get, they brought us little samples of several items on the menu. We sampled the ox tails, curry goat, curry chicken, jerk chicken, & the brown stew chicken. They were all insanely delicious. We ended up with the brown stew chicken for myself & the curry chicken for my husband. I got the rice & beans & the collards with mine & he got white rice & cabbage with his. I also got the plantains & we split the chicken Jamaican hand pie. I can't say enough how delicious everything we tried was. The service is great & we also enjoyed the Jamaican music playing while we dining in. The pricing was very reasonable as well. We got 2 plates; mine small, his medium; the hand pie, & 2 cups of water for $25! And we both had enough leftovers to feed each of us again. If you haven't tried this place yet, you totally should! We will definitely be back!

Large jerk chicken plate w/ rice & peas and cabbage--the plantains were a bonus. And the best rum punch EVER!!

I've been here several times & loved it every. Single. TIME!!! While I love Charlotte's food scene for its vast array of options & continuous growth, my Northern palate recognizes that there's a glaring gap on the Caribbean food front. Island Grill & Pub effortlessly and deliciously fills that gap! After a relaxing & scenic ride from Charlotte, I appreciate the beyond friendly/family-type atmosphere, jamming playlist, great showings on both the jerk & brown stew chicken, and some of the best rum punch I've ever had. Definitely a regular in my takeout lineup!

Island Grill & Pub of Rock Hill serves up some of the best Jamaican food in town! I've been a regular since they opened 2-3 yrs ago, and the food is consistently delicious each time! Their Jamaican Beef Patties are my go-to, the hearty beef filling isn't overly spicy, so I always add hot sauce for an extra kick. I always order their juicy Jerk Chicken with brown stew sauce; it's the perfect combo of sweet and tangy and oh-so-satisfying. Next is their rice & peas and steamed cabbage salad, and I can't do without the sweet plantains, so I always order extra. The highlight of my last visit was the ginger lemonade, which was so refreshing and delicious with the perfect amount of ginger sweetness. I also got to try their Jamaican Rum Punch, which tasted like juice!  The owner, Christopher, owned a few restaurants in New York before bringing his Jamaican flavors to Rock Hill, SC. Christopher is always around, ensuring each guest has an enjoyable experience, which is why Island Grill & Pub is at the top of my list of places to eat in Rock Hill.

Bartenders were really entertaining and I actually preferred it. We've had dinner there before and opted not to move to a table. Prime rib - Friday night special. AMAZING. 8 oz portion rare was juicy and so flavorful. Crust was peppery and delicious, perfect with savory heat from the horseradish cream. Mac and cheese was super creamy and just the right amount of pepper, made with shells, cheese pull galore. The collards were on point and packed with chunks of pork. The tri tip was sliced thin and stayed juicy but that chimichurri was the showstopper. It was fresh and spicy and totally made the dish! Beans were too smoky for me, hubby said they were good. Potato salad was solid but not sure any potato dish could top that Mac! Sparkling rose was just a teensy bit sweet, very refreshing and divine. Bartender said it's one of the best wines on their list. Hubby had Tito's and cranberry, also excellent. They have a good draft selection too. No oysters for us on this trip, but they did have a list and the raw bar was fully seated and enjoying them. We totally enjoyed oysters last time. Longer table down the middle would make it easy for large parties and they did have several large groups in as well. Overall it was a pretty energetic vibe with a fun but casual ambience. Dress it up if you like, but jeans are also okay. Games were on the three TVs at the bar, or maybe there were 4 TVs. Bartenders were fun to hang out with and provided all the menu recommendations and entertainment we could want.

We had the opportunity to eat at Bear Walrus in person and it was the best bbq I'd ever had. I always try the turkey at every bbq place as sort of a litmus test. If the turkey is tender & juicy, it usually means they know what they're doing. That first time I wished I had more hands to give more thumbs up. Fast forward to last month. We ordered food to go. I got the turkey again and it was inedible. In the trash it went. The sides were still delicious. The greens and the Mac n cheese were so good. I figured maybe they had a bad night. This evening, once again, ordered the turkey and wow, it was wayyyyy over-peppered, completely dry, basically it was cardboard. Horrible. So decided to write this review in hopes they will reverse course.

The menu is fairly deep and wide. Obviously, with the name of the restaurant, they offer a good variety of seafood options. Their specials for the evening both were seafood. Like the last time here they recommended the Chilean Seabass. What a shock, it's the most expensive item on the menu. Three people got it, they all said it was OK to good. I ordered the blackened mahi-mahi. By the description, it sounded good, I've had it other places, I've enjoyed it. Well, there's always a first time that it wasn't very good. That bs this time. To start, the portion size is decent. I understand we were a fairly large group, but they need to figure out a way to bring the food out at least warm. The most disappointing part of the fish was how dry it was. The second most disappointing part about the fish was how it lacked blackened seasoning. One other person also got the same menu item and had the exact same comments. I did start out with a side salad and it was acceptable. The lettuce was not too flimsy. It included goat cheese and candied pecans. Their house dressing, which was a vinaigrette, tasted bitter. We ordered five different appetizers. No super compliments on the any of them. I didn't try them all. I did try the crab cakes, they seemed to be missing crab. I paid the bill. When the server asked me, how was everything? I replied "not very good". She didn't care to ask what the issue was.

The servers are really sweet and it sort of feels like being in a time capsule. The menu is all seafood with the few land based offerings. You won't find anything fancy here. The seafood is either fried or broiled. they season things well. However, the portions are crazy. They pile it on! I tried the fried seafood platter. I received flounder, clams, shrimp, oyster, and deviled crab. Are you kidding me?! It's a huge meal for $23. You can't beat the value. I admit I'd like the food to be a little more seasoned. However, I can say the devil crab is really good. I tried a similar meal the second time I went, but this time I had it broiled. I only had the flounder and shrimp this time. Again, a huge portion came out the shrimp were well seasoned, but you really need the cocktail sauce to put it over the top. I wasn't as big a fan of the flounder this time. The salad bar is good. It's very traditional and you won't find anything really unique here, but it is fun to have a salad bar. I sort of missed them when they disappeared. The ladies who provide service are just really sweet. They clearly have regulars, but they treat newbies really well. They always invite you back, which is a sweet thing to do.
