I was introduced to this place by my mom she would rant and rave about how delicious the food is and she wasn't wrong! Since moving to the Carolina's from up North I wasn't sure what to expect. I've have both dined in as well as carry out and the experience is always pleasant. I've had a few things from the menu but my favorite is the oxtail roti; It's a bit costly but well worth it as the meat is super tender, flavorful and the roti is pack full of meat. I also love the rice/ peas with the brown gravy and drinks are always phenomenal I've learned depending on the time of day you may be waiting for a bit but it's well worth it as everything is fresh, hot and made to order. The service/staff very friendly and helpful when it comes to ordering. On a recent trip to Rock Hill, I stopped in at Island Grill & Pub to enjoy dinner. Although it was very cold outside, as soon as we walked in, we felt like we were immediately transported to a neighborhood cookshop in Port Antonio! The cashier was sweet and personable. She was multitasking, but still managed to be fully engaged in the service she provided to us. She kindly let us know what items were sold out for the day and also gave us time to look over the menu and decide on our order without making us feel rushed. While we waited for our food to arrive, we noticed a steady flow of customers all the way until closing time! It's clear Island Grill & Pub is a local favorite. The food is packaged up to go, but there are plenty of tables to dine-in once you have your food...and a big screen with movies and Jamaican music playing in the background to keep you entertained. The wait for the food is a bit long...but EVERYTHING came out very fresh, very authentic, and worth the wait. The portions were plentiful, the food was flavorful and seasoned well, and the items were priced well for the value. Surprisingly good! I've read the Yelp reviews and seen this place many times since it's near my Dr's office so today I stopped in for lunch. An overcast and gloomy Monday and there were only a couple of other tables filled. I had the large portion of beef stew with the yellow rice and collard greens as my two sides. When I placed my order the young man asked if this was dine in or 'to go' and i said dine in' They give you a number and deliver the food when it's ready. It came out real quick, in about 5 minutes. Interesting that it was in a 'to go' container. It was SO hot, there was steam rising off the food. I had to wait a few minutes for it to cool down so I could taste it. The collards were absolutely delicious. The yellow rice was OK, though I'm not a huge rice fan. The beef stew was perfect. Cooked just right in a nice lite gravy. A very large portion and I was very pleased with the flavor and food quality. On the down side, the place doesn't appear to be super clean, especially the bathroom. The hallway where you walk to get there is scattered with cleaning supplies and trash. It looks like they have a DJ on the weekends as the equipment sits out in the open. They have a fully stocked bar and a couple of beers on draught. They have one very large round booth like table that looks like yit could seat maybe six or seven. Then they have two standard size booths and the rest are all two and four top tables. Kind of fitting they have Reggae music playing while you dine. They do offer a Veteran discount as well and I was happy I could support an independently owned and operated local business. read more

The food here is delicious. I love the oxtails but I decided to get the jerk chicken with rice and peas and collard greens. The chicken was tender with a semi spicy jerk sauce. The rice and peas was so yummy and the greens were seasoned well. I also ordered a ginger lemonade which is refreshing with a kick of ginger! The service was fast and the customer service good! Update: 2025 The food is STILL delicious with great service. They changed the inside some from when I first posted but this restaurant is definitely a must when visiting Rock Hill! I have been visiting this restaurant for years, but my visits did become less frequent when Covid hit. My standard order is the Curry Goat with rice and peas, cabbage, and candied yams, which I also got at this visit. Since I hadn't been in a while, I ate inside, which allowed me to see the changes that had been made to the interior. The restaurant has a trendy yet casual vibe, which I liked. The staff was friendly and willing to answer any questions I had regarding their menu. At this visit I branched out and tried different dishes and not one single item disappointed. The new items I tried were the Jerk Wings, which were very tender, well-seasoned and the same can be said for the Oxtails and the Curry Chicken Roti. I must add that the roti tastes best when eaten alongside the curry chicken inside. I also tried two of their desserts, Carrot Cake and Chocolate Cheesecake. My husband and I were on our way back home from a day trip. We decided to get something to eat and look for someplace nearby on Yelp. The iIsland Grill and Pub was one of the suggestions and we like Jamaican food so we decided to give it a try. I am so happy we did! And the decor is a bit spare, but does remind you of a restaurant you would actually find in Jamaica. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady, who helped us to make choices from the menu. A couple of the items that we wanted were not available that day. My husband decided to order an ox tail dinner. I ordered an order of collard greens, in order of cabbage, and a small order of red pea soup. Food arrived hot and smelling delicious. The owner made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the food. And enjoy it we did! This is probably one of the best Jamaican meals I have had! The red pea soup was quite delicious with adequate amounts of oxtail and beef. It was seasoned perfectly. Afterwards, I really wished I had gotten a large order so that I could bring some home. Stumbled upon this gem while working in the Rock Hill area. Ordered oxtails rice and peas and cabbage and I was beyond impressed. They gave a generous portion of oxtails. Good food the only thing was collard greens was lacking flavor. Wings were seasoned well & oxtails were tender. We sampled the ox tails, curry goat, curry chicken, jerk chicken, & the brown stew chicken. They were all insanely delicious. I also got the plantains & we split the chicken Jamaican hand pie. I can't say enough how delicious everything we tried was. Their Jamaican Beef Patties are my go-to, the hearty beef filling isn't overly spicy, so I always add hot sauce for an extra kick. I always order their juicy Jerk Chicken with brown stew sauce; it's the perfect combo of sweet and tangy and oh-so-satisfying. Next is their rice & peas and steamed cabbage salad, and I can't do without the sweet plantains, so I always order extra. The highlight of my last visit was the ginger lemonade, which was so refreshing and delicious with the perfect amount of ginger sweetness. I also got to try their Jamaican Rum Punch, which tasted like juice!  The owner, Christopher, owned a few restaurants in New York before bringing his Jamaican flavors to Rock Hill, SC. I had several friends ask me to try this restaurant because they feel like I give honest opinions about critiquing food. I'm from NY so I'm very big on Caribbean food and hold it to high standards. This is my née spot for a taste of the islands. The stewed brown fish (red snapper) is worth the money and 20 minute cook time. It was perfectly cooked and delicious. Everything that I have had here has been amazing the portion size is very generous for the prices. I paid $24 for this plate and it's more than enough for two ppl. I have been to places that charge $25-$30 for half the size and flavor. Location is also great we don't have any Caribbean eateries near by. Cabbage and collard greens are vegetarian but they are to die for I swear you couldn't tell the difference. The jerk is also great but beware it packs a lot of heat with a little sweet.
