Layers is a beautiful setting. But the food is very expensive and mediocre for the price. They try to elevate sandwiches but using more upscale ingredients. We got the duck Norris, a breakfast sandwich with duck breast, the pulled pork sandwich that I can't remember the name, and the tuna sandwich. We got 3 drinks and a banana bread to share too. Those items cost us $90. The sandwiches don't come with any side items like a green salad or potato salad, either of which could have made the price tag a little easier to swallow. So it ends up being not a lot of food for a lot of money. The lemonade was excellent. Heads up the banana walnut bread comes with flaky sea salt on top, which made it a no-go for our 7 year old who loves banana bread. I saw the owner replied to my review calling me a cheapskate. Really unfortunate that I couldn't give a review of my experience without being name called. I think it's reasonable to give folks a heads up about the prices given how high it was. Clearly they're not hurting for people who are willing to pay those prices, so being that rude was just unnecessary. read more

I've been following this truck on Instagram for months, and trying to find the perfect time to make the long trip from West Seattle to try them out. Today was that day. It took me an hour to get to the brewery where they were stationed, and I have no regrets. It took me even longer to get home. Still no regrets. I got the Captain Rick 2.0 - a delightful tuna salad sandwich. This might be the best tuna salad sandwich I've ever had. The bun was soft and had a good flavor, and the tuna salad was incredible. Everything was extremely well balanced and the texture of the tuna was exactly the way I like it - not too chunky, and not too fine. There were potato chips on it as well which is something I do when I make my own tuna salad sandwiches - so this was a match made in heaven for me. I would eat one of these every week if I had access to it. I got a side of the not your average spuds, which are fried and smashed fingerling potatoes. They were also excellent, with a really great texture and they were perfect for dipping into the green goddess dressing and the additional Portland ketchup that I sprang for. To finish the meal, I got the special ice cream sandwich that was a collaboration with Frankie and Jo's vegan ice cream shop. A banana tahini ice cream sandwiched between two walnut chocolate chip cookies. If you didn't know that this was vegan ice cream and gluten free cookies, you wouldn't be able to tell. It tasted exactly like the real thing to me, and it was amazing. It was so well balanced between the sweetness of the ice cream, the softness of the cookie, and a little bit of salt on the cookie. It's kind of a shame that this is such a limited time item because this is another thing I would like to eat at least once a week haha. Overall, I highly recommend Layers Sandwich Company and it is definitely worth going out of your way to get something from them if you have the opportunity. read more

You know when kids suck down apple juice like their lives depend on it? When they finally take a break to gasp for air? Yeah that was me with Layers Sandwich Co's cherry lemonade. It didn't even make it back to the car with me. I had heard good things and this was when they had a special going for the Cocktail Hour Sandwich: Crispy Oregon bay shrimp cake, Louie sauce, radish, frisee/arugula on a toasted potato bun. So. Good. As in, I'm so glad no one was around to watch me devour it in a very lady-like 2.5 seconds I need to go back to try their veggie Harrisa Explains It All. By 2pm they've run out of almost the whole menu. Maybe this is by design and they keep limited inventory on purpose to limit overhead costs, but it still doesn't look good coming in hungry. There were only 2 sandwiches they had left when we ordered. This place is just way overpriced. $16 for an average-sized sandwich with a filling, 1-2 toppings, and some sauce is ridiculous. To their credit it does seem like they use high-quality ingredients, and the sandwiches tasted good. But this place again is not worth the price. 2 sandwiches and an order of spuds, after tax and tip (you know, the forced guilt-tip on the iPad screen) came out to $50. The sandwiches are good here no doubt, the ingredients they use are top-notch, but to me it doesn't justify the prices. I will not be coming back primarily because of the price. read more

Small space so seating can be tough. We were sitting waiting for our food and essentially was asked if we could give up our seat until our food came out. We understood, but being 32+ weeks pregnant I was slightly annoyed. But other than that, food was amazing. Husband got the pork sandwich and the balance of flavors from the pork to the slaw (?) in the sando was perfect. The garlic aioli could use a little more punch but that's a personal preference. read more

Was excited to finally try their famous banana bread and was slightly disappointed to see that they had switched it out for a seasonal pumpkin pecan bread. But I didn't mind too much, I was still excited to try it because I was interested in the fact that it was still griddled in olive oil. It came out quick and the exterior was nice and browned and crispy, but the interior was extremely gooey. It seems like the bread was undercooked. Not sure if that was intended, but it was definitely not my preference. maybe I'll have more luck with the banana bread when it comes back. read more

Layers has a great social media presence, so we were really excited to try it. Seattle has a really competitive sandwich game, and Layers has been talking big. Conclusion: It's just okay. The tuna salad was dry, with nothing to twist into anything new or exciting. Smashed potatoes were good. My person had a sandwich that was also deemed 'okay.' Nothing to write home about for the price point. Almost a regret. They're still new, so maybe they'll offer new things in the future that will help them improve their menu for the long game. But with so many other options for solid sandwiches, I'll wait it out. read more

I've been following Layers Sandwich Co on IG for awhile now. Recently I was at Bale Breaker Brewery and I saw the food truck! I was so excited and I told my friends I've been dying to try their sandwiches. I wasn't even hungry but I didn't care. My stomach made room for their delicious food. The employee was probably one of the nicest people too which is amazing! A great crew makes the experience even better. Keep it up! We got the precocious piggy and the chicken sees-a-salad. I shared the precocious piggy with my husband and I wish I didn't. I wanted it all to myself. It was so drooling good the only downfall is I wish there was a little bit more meat on the sandwich compared to the bun. So good it was bursting with flavor! My friend got the chicken sandwich and she texted me the next morning saying she can only think about that sandwich it was so great! So obviously it was spot on! We also got the not your average spuds. I love any kind of potatoes and their sauces were amazing as well. I can't wait to go there again! read more

Good food and a welcomed addition to GL. Had the TBR which had undisclosed dill in the ranch. I should know better, but with an herb so widely despised you would think there would be mention of it's contaminating presence. Looking forward to trying a non dill sandwich next time! read more

Was looking forward to trying the notorious sandwich but they were out. I got the roast beef sandwich (not a huge fan of roast beef in general, but this was GOOD). HOLY SANDWICH! I've been going to Layers since March of 2020....and everything is delicious. Like, I don't even try to make my own sandwiches because I've tasted the upper echelon life and can't go back. I LOVE the I'd Date a Jalapeño (sweet from the dates cut the jalapeños so perfectly...I've never had a combo like this) and the Not Your Average Spuds are the perfect pairing AND DONT FORGET THE BANANA BREAD. Great options for vegetarians too. I also love that they have weekly specials that rotate around what's in season-using a variety of ingredients (cod, mortadella, clams, etc) I would never try these on my own but I do when Avery and Ashley make em! Live nearby and have been there a couple times, including taking friends visiting out of town. The TBR is good, the biscuit is tasty, but the Captain Rick is quite bland for my taste (it could be for someone else). Unfortunately, they sell out of the Duck Norris and Notorious PIG which is probably the other things on the menu I'd like to try. Like some other reviewers, I feel that the food and drinks are a bit pricey. The TBR might be worth the value, but I didn't feel like the Captain Rick was. I somewhat hesitate to write this review seeing the owner's response calling other reviewer who bring up the same point names like "cheapskate", which is not only a logical fallacy but is quite insensitive to the privilege that the owner has. However, I am sharing my review so as to not let honest reviews of a restaurant be silenced. I very much so want Layers to succeed - it brings new life to the north Green Lake area. My hope is that it grows with the community. read more

Expectations were sky high but they still managed to exceed them! Tried the special, "Full of Seoul", a which was a terrific combo of crispy fried cauliflower, kimchi aioli, and fermented cucumbers. I'm super appreciative of their inventive vegetarian offerings. This was the first I was able to try but they're past specials have sounded similarly delicious. I'm not a stalker, I swear. I will admit to finding this truck all over Seattle, though. And I really, really, love sandwiches. I first tried this truck at Hellbent Brewing which is the closest location I've found them in relation to my apartment in Bothell. I first fell in love with the CBR over the summer (Chicken/Bacon/Ranch) and it was a slippery slope from there. Since then, I have had the pleasure of trying the Bellezza Calabrese, Deja Moo, Precocious Piggy, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and finally today the Mortadella (eh-eh). Every. Single. Sandwich. Is. Amazing. The flavors are incredible and also well balanced. Nothing overpowers another thing it just all WORKS. The spuds are truly not average with flaky salt and the best green goddess dressing. The walnut banana bread is sinful and cut in huge generous slices. Currently, the majestic hot cocoa is the perfect thing to sip on in the cold weather while you wait for your sandwich, which is not long- they sling sandwiches so fast! (Pro-Tip: bring a little Irish cream or whiskey to toss in for the ultimate indulgence.) I don't have the patience for photos when confronted with a sandwich or potatoes, but believe me when I say each one is a work of art. Avery and Ashley are a dream team and are so damn pleasant. I think they have started recognizing me which I am not sure yet is good or bad... I honestly have thought about writing a proposal to get them to cater my wedding next year if only we were getting married locally! (But.. is Astoria too far? Call me?) I had originally been planning to go to dinner from somewhere else, but after some beers at Urban Family Brewing, the food truck parked beside it sure looked good! I wanted the Precocious Piggy, but it was sold out. Turns out this was okay because I instead got their daily special whose name I can't remember, but it was tri-tip with artichoke hearts, aioli, and arugula on a brioche bun. So freaking good! Not something I'd normally order, but glad I took the chance. The owner was really kind and offered substitutions based on my food preferences, and my sandwich was perfect. For me, this was plenty of food, but if I had wanted more, those Fifis (smashed potatoes) sure looked good. My husband got the I'd Date a Jalapeno, and he was raving about his. I wasn't phased paying $13 for a sandwich like some reviewers, because it's clear they used local ingredients, and in general, I think Seattle is an expensive city. The truck was parked at a brewery in Greenwood on Friday from 4pm-9. I went with my friend just before 5pm and the sandwich was SO good. I checked their instagram later and they sold out of the sandwich by 5:45. Go as early as you can!! I am assuming they sell out a lot. read more

Is this the best sandwich purveyor in town right now? I'm inclined to say yes. All their sandwiches are thoughtfully prepared, the flavors incredibly well balanced (a rare trait), and the ingredients high quality. Do yourself a favor and check them out! The first time I ordered here, I was bummed they were out of one of their two meat sandwiches. I usually like to split two sandwiches with a loved one, so my lovely wife talked me into *gasp* a vegetarian sandwich for our second (Harissa Explains It All). (Sidenote, vegetarianism is great but I think we can agree that often meatless sandwiches are.... usually just ok.) I daresay it was better than the other, meat-based sandwich, which is saying a lot because the pork belly themed one is also incredible. Now those two are our go-to combo, although the CBR is no such when we have tried it (somehow the tomato really shines in that one, and I don't usually like tomato!). The recent special with ham and peach might be the best sandwich I've ever had, and although I am prone to hyperbole, over also had a lot of amazing sandwiches. So do with that what you will. Unique flavor combos and higher quality ingredients make this a great lunch stop in green Lake. The restaurant still feels as though it's getting into the rhythm of things and finding the right supply to meet demand as half of the menu was out by the time I arrived. Seattle friend said this was one of the most excellent sandwiches he ever had. They were parked near a taproom and we enjoyed the Precocious Piggy. wow! Literally biting into one of the best cooked and sweet pork bellies ever. With all the sauces and the bread, it really was excellent. Precocious Piggy and the spuds were my choices and neither disappointed. Bottom line, the food was great, the owners/folks making and serving the food are super nice and helpful, and even the wait (prob five orders in front of mine) was only about 10 minutes max. Being right next to Optimism Brewery (on this night), I went in and sipped on a beer while I waited. Ashley (taking orders) knew I was sitting in a window, watching, and motioned to me when my order was ready. Super nice and aware. No promises you'll be treated as well. Pretty sure I'm special. I will always be rubbed the wrong way by this place. I ordered some chicken sandwich and asked them to add cheese. The response I got from the woman taking the order and the "cook" was beyond rude. "Oh, you don't want cheese on that (eye roll)". I've never not wanted cheese on a sandwich. I will never order from them and their obnoxious attitude again. read more
