Ohhhh my goodness!! Listen, I have been a vegetarian for 21 years, and I've had probably hundreds (thousands?) of veggie burgers. They've gotten more interesting over the years, but they usually aren't memorable. Until today. Hands down, the "Le Vurger" at Layers is the best vegetarian burger I've ever ordered at a restaurant. They describe it as a housemade chickpea-rice patty, and it's covered in the most delicious smoked tomato aioli with practically an entire arugula beet salad on top. The chickpea patty is so moist on the inside, with a delicious crunch to the outer layer. Simple, but perfect! (For the meat eaters reading this, the table of guys next to me had some sort of pork belly sandwich and I overheard one of them rave about it. So if they are to be believed, apparently you gotta try the pork belly!) The pastry case is not to be missed! Their house canele might be the yummiest little bite of dessert in town. Another simple but perfectly executed treat. 10/10 recommend! I've also had the chocolate peppermint cookie and WOW! I asked if there was a whole peppermint patty in the middle because you bite into some sort of gooey peppermint heaven, but apparently it's just their own perfect little secret that makes it so yummy! It's always full, and so the vibe is pretty cool, but also super chill. It's clean and bright and airy. Order at the counter from one nice person, get a number, find a table inside or outside (there's plenty of both!), and then another nice person brings you your food. Actually, the staff is awesome. They just seem like good people who wanna put out good food and make you and your tummy happy. I have an injury and have gone in a couple of times the past few weeks on both crutches and a mobility scooter, and they are super helpful without making a big fuss - which I appreciate. I was excited to try this spot, I've heard great things from multiple people. Ordering was simple, at the counter. Outside table was dirty, makes sense from a "bus yourself" kinda place. Surprised the sandwich did not come cut in half, probably because the halves would be comically small. Bread was burnt on both sides. I had the egg and cheese sandwich for the third time today and I realized- every time I've eaten it I think "this is the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had." Spuds with green goddess sauce make it a meal. Also, the cake slices they had today (white cake with mascarpone and stone fruit filling) was some of the best cake I've ever had. My husband and I have had Layers on our list of "must try" restaurants for about a year, so we were super excited to finally bite the bullet. I'll start with the good parts first: food was ready quickly and easy to grab from the takeout shelf, and the staff who answered the phone and took my phone order were nice enough. I ordered the Notorious P.I.G., he got the Seoul-ful Reuben, and we shared an order of the Spuds. Now for the not so good parts: when placing my call-in order, I felt a bit put on the spot when giving my credit card number and she asked if I wanted to leave a tip. It's takeout, and I'm walking in to grab it, so I politely told her no. Maybe just allow the customer to offer that up for a takeout order if they feel inclined? I'm not sure if that affected the quality of what we received, but ultimately, the food was a letdown. The bun, condiment and toppings on my P.I.G. were decent, but the pork (the main character) was half inedible. It had large sections of gristly fat that were impossible to bite through, so I'd end up dragging half of the pork out with each bite and then tearing off the parts that really couldn't be eaten. For the price of the sandwich, and how small it is, I would expect higher quality meat and that all of it would be edible. So much ended up being wasted...seriously almost half of it. My husband's sandwich was also quite small, albeit better quality meat. I took a bite and it was fine. I wouldn't feel inclined to order it again and he felt the same. The Spuds looked amazing, and had a great texture, but were severely under seasoned. The sauce worked overtime to try and save the day, but without adequate salt, it was a miss. This was a sad review to write because we had been anticipating such great things from all of the reviews, but our experience just didn't seem to match up. Maybe it was an off day, but with a $45 tab, one mid sandwich and side, and half of another sandwich that was completely inedible, I don't think I'll be going back to find out if that was an anomaly. read more

Customer service was insanely personable and most importantly pleasant!! My kiddo and husband devoured the potatoes, so happy we ordered two!! I love when unique ideas come together and work that's how the rock out brocc out sandwich is; it just works and was really GOOD. If available, make sure to order a slice of the banana walnut bread I had the following morning and it was AMAZING! What an awesome food truck - the owners were so kind and really awesome (they gave hot cider to a few of us that were there early, waiting in line when it was snowing). They offer gluten free bread which is so appreciated because it allows me (and others) to get to experience their delicious food - specifically their sandwiches. Their banana bread is gluten free (amazing!) and it was great - although I think I'd enjoy it even more without the walnuts. Their spuds were good but their sandwiches are the true stars. I tried both the precocious piggy and the under my mortadella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh. Personally, I preferred the mortadella - it was delicious and I wish I could have some for dinner tonight. Wow this place deserves all the hype and love it gets. An instant cult following for this neighborhood. Looking forward to seeing it get its own brick and mortar soon. I got the Precocious Piggy and it was the best elements of taste and flavor. The pork belly was super juicy and it had the nice brightness from the pepper jam and a good crunch with the cabbage and Chicharrón. Best truly vegan (no fake meat subs!) sandwich I've ever had in my life. It was one of those sandwiches that made me feel like they truly designed this for the flavors and the integrity of the sandwich itself-- not just to check a vegan option box on the menu. This is a cozy spot next to Green Lake. It's definitely worth a stop. I'm not sure I would go back if it wasn't in a great location though. The coffee was good. I like that the sandwich which had a nice crisp to it and potato chips inside. I think the flavors were well thought out but the sandwiches were a bit dry or maybe my meat was slightly overcooked. I love Layers!! My partner and I used to go their food truck when it was around, and I'm so glad they opened up a brick and mortar! Their sandwiches are so good and hefty and always hit the spot and I'm not even really a sandwich person. The restaurant itself is super cute with a campground theme going on, and they have indoor and outdoor seating - perfect for a post-green lake stroll. My favorite sandwich is actually the Le Vurger. I am a sucker for a veggie burger, but their patty is so good, and the sandwich is just easy to eat and delicious. They also have specials they announce on their insta so keep on the lookout. I would just recommend going earlier rather than later in the day because they do often sell out of sandwiches, so if you go late, you may not get your first choice! read more

I went to Layers today for the first time. I had the Apple of My Eye salad with added turkey. The salad was delicious! All the ingredients were wonderful and plentiful. My daughter, who had the same thing, commented that it was bottomless. It was indeed a huge salad. I took the left overs for dinner. Everyone I encountered working there was friendly and helpful. I had to come here to try the Turkey sandwich and potatoes because it looked so good. We arrived and weathered the long line to place our order. I did in fact order the Turkey sandwich. It was nice and meaty and the bacon was delicious. Please note this sandwich does not have cheese. The sandwich was decent but I have no plans in going back. The potatoes were not as good as I had hoped they lacked a little seasoning, and they are served with green goddess dressing but I asked for ranch instead and was still charged the extra fee, which I believe is a whopping $1 for ranch. I think that's worth noting. Was it decent? Yes. Will I go back? No. Response to inquiry: I did not receive ranch and goddess dressing. I asked for ranch instead and only received ranch. Met a friend here today and was anything but impressed. Everyone I encountered was really nice, but the place wasn't clean, all the tables had crumbs on them. I'd also say the far was more expensive than it needed to be. I had an egg and cheese sandwich that cost fair more than fast food despite tasting like fast food on an expensive bun. My buddy had a pork belly sandwich that he classified as just ok and artificial. Not sure I understood what artificial meant, but I took it as overrated. Ironically, I realized I had been here before during the pandemic. It was a Mexican restaurant and I recall my meal was supposed to come with guacamole, I was half way through the meal when I realized it was missing, ask the server/owner/operator/cook and he said, we're out of guac, sorry. It all worked out, I realized I was out of tip money, so I guess we were both underserved. Ironically, I thought of the place about a year ago and wondered if they were still in business and when I did a search, I couldn't find them. Now I know they were replaced. It was nearly an hour to get here and I'm sure I passed more than a 100 places serving breakfast and I'd be willing to bet 99% of them would have been more impressive. I can't hate these guys because no one was rude, but I think these reviews are way off base. Seattle has struggled to put decent food on the table for more than a decade now and this place is no different. I guess when you put Arugula on everything, you can charge more and make granola people happy. I wouldn't return or recommend, and probably won't entertain any more recommendations from this friend. He drove a ways as well to try this place and based on other recommendations from him, it appears his style is following all the trendy places that Thrill List and Eater recommend. read more

After a few rave live reviews of layers, I knew I had to go check it out! The hype is worth it my friends albeit little pricey for the size. Got the cod and shrimp sandwiches (see pics) - wow. Dunno what I was expecting but it wasn't this. I was expecting a very heavy, greasy, cut bombs but both sammies were so light and packed with flavor! I came here over the weekend as it's my local spot! Despite having to wait a while I was so happy to see such a long line out the back to order! It's so exciting to has such a cute, exciting new spot to go to close to home. They are super dog friendly - I waited in line with my dog and everyone was so friendly with her and happy for me to bring her inside while I ordered my food. Unfortunately when I got to the front I found out their gluten free bread isn't dairy free (which means for all my just gf fam their bread is probs delish) but that meant I couldn't have a sandwich. They were so nice about it though and said they could turn any sandwich into a salad next time if I wanted. I ended up just ordering a side salad of beans, along with a kambutcha and some dates with peanut butter they sell as part of their other in store offerings. It was also super delish! Pork belly had an amazing crackling and it was not dry. I just wished I was able to have a good mixture of fat part and meat part in every bite. Unlike Charsiu in a steam bun where you can have both fat/ meat part together in one bite( since it's thinner and smaller) there's 2 slabs of pork belly in this PIG sandwich. I used poly gloves to break pork belly at home lol. For $16 I was not impressed nor disappointed. Sauce was just Sambal+ Thai sweet chili & plain Mayo.
