LAYERS IS THE BEST. They did our wedding cake and actually customized it to be sprinkle/funfetti cake with buttercream frosting. They were so kind and knowledgeable. I originally wanted to put lavender flowers on my cake and the woman said that she would advise against it because although it is pretty it can make the cake taste like lavender. I truly appreciated the honesty and expertise because I would have been so sad to taste lavender instead of my funfetti cake flavor! The shop is super cute and quaint. So upset with this cake. In the cake decorator is defense he did follow the instructions to the T. He did mention that he's been having communication problems with his wife. This was not a college 50th anniversary cake, and upon first glance that's exactly what it was. This was a 50th anniversary cake as a surprise. When problem solving how to fix the issue, the man wanted to upsell me another 60 to $100. From a customer service perspective just fix the issue because this is not what was agreed upon in the prior emails. Honestly, just a really rude conversation when I called about ordering a custom cake. The woman just sounded like she didn't want to be bothered with the order. Before I even told her what date I needed it she told me that I needed to place two weeks prior. But you didn't even inquire as to when I needed it. She told me that they needed to coordinate with the wedding cake designer, I asked if that was also the case if it was for a birthday birthday cake and not a wedding cake and she said that she knows. Like how would you know that it was a birthday cake? Honestly take your business to somebody that actually knows how to handle customers. I asked for 8 cookies, and a brownie, was charged for 8 cookies and a brownie but the woman helping me only gave me 6 cookies and a brownie. She sealed the box and I did not notice until I arrived home that I was 2 cookies short! When you're paying $3 per cookie - give me all my cookies that you charged me for. She asked if I needed my receipt and I said yes. Thank goodness I have it to prove what I paid - $28 total. It was 3:55pm when I called the bakery to report my missing cookies but the prompt, after listening to music waiting for someone to answer, said no one is available to help you and disconnected me. When I called a second time it was 4pm and guess what time they close? 4pm. We ordered a 2-tiered naked cake (death by chocolate), red velvet cupcakes, vanilla cupcakes with fresh chocolate covered strawberries, and some gluten-free cupcakes for the wedding. Layers will decorate your cake with fresh flowers if you bring them in the day before (and they decorate them beautifully). Because our venue was in the neighborhood, they also handled delivery for us at no extra cost. We received comments from our guests that this was the best wedding cake they had. We had almost the whole bottom layer leftover (even though I ordered for 50 servings for a ~90 person wedding!) and a good amount of cupcakes, so we took them home. I had friends asking me for leftover servings of the cake and cupcakes since some of them knew I had portioned them out and put them in my freezer. They held really well and we are bummed to say we have finally worked through all of the leftovers. Their sponge was very moist and their ganache was light and smooth. Those red velvet cupcakes were so incredibly delicious as well. We will have to make it a habit to pick up a few sweets whenever we visit Monterey now. read more

Not only did it look nothing like what we had asked for, the sample we sent to have them make was their own work! My kids picked the cake up, so I don't know what the shop is like inside; however, they told me they had a great experience, the person who helped them was friendly and kind.
