I got a long metal object from a construction site stuck in my tire so I went to the nearest garage because I heard air leaking. They took my car in right away and were very accommodating. They offered me food, drinks, even a ride to a nearby coffee shop. Had my car for about an hour and check absolutely everywhere. Pulled a small piece of metal out and still checked for leaks and found none. They ended up not charging me anything even though they easily could have. I ranked them 5 stars for years up until the pandemic, then something changed (Larry was gone) and all of a sudden I started to get diagnosed for all kinds of new problems and repair recommendations that other shops told me were off base. For example, my air conditioning stopped working and Layton's wanted $3700 to fix it. I took it to another shop that specialized in air issues and they explained why Layton's diagnosis was incorrect. They told me what the real problem was and fixed it for $1600 and it has been running perfectly ever since (over a year.) This other shop also told me that the costly brake replacement that Layton's had recently given me had been totally unnecessary and I could have just replaced the pads. Layton's also kept giving me all kinds of other diagnoses that would have been very costly for my car, which had been running pretty beautifully before the pandemic. I just had to stop going there because I no longer trusted the management. I don't know if Layton's was doing this witht everybody but maybe because I was a woman they were taking advantage of my lack of knowledge, or maybe they needed to get more jobs, but for whateer reason suddently my car started to have all kinds of problems that other experts told me I did not need, so I stopped using them. It's a shame because their employees are wonderful and everyone there was always kind, courteous, and more than helpful. I switched to another shop after the incorrect air diagnosis and have had no problems since then. read more

Caution they require $160 to just look at your car and give an estimate of repairs. If you decide to go ahead with their inflated price they don't credit the 160 towards your repair. Total scam, better to go to the dealer, which is something I have never advocated in the past! read more

To trust, or not to trust? That is the question. I played hopscotch with Honda, Another garage, and Layton's. Each serviced my car for different needs. I scored a valuable lesson. The other day, I brought my car to Honda for a free oil change. You can never walk out free as there is almost always a charge for something. I was told I needed spark plugs, brake fluid, tire balance, an alignment, and rear rotator reinforcement. This came to the tune of $750. I knew I had purchased spark plugs and got brake fluid from another garage in the past. I had just purchased tires from Layton's so didn't understand the balance or alignment charge. Thanks to Tony, he spelled it all out. Because my car had 110k miles on it and Honda had no record of the things they listed, they assumed I never got the service. Tony verified that the spark plugs and brake fluid were good. Thank you for your honesty. I will continue to trust you to take care of my car. read more

Where do I begin. My 2019 Hyundai Sonata with 26K miles didn't start. I tested the battery, it was fine. I ran the codes, nothing came up. When you started the car it went into Accessory Mode and then Went "On" but the engine didn't click or even try to turn over. The car flashed a no key signal but I ruled that out, because obviously the key worked. You can't turn the accessory mode on or lock/unlock the doors with a busted key. I tow my car to Layton, they said they're busy and will look at it the next day. The last time my car went in there I was out of town so they had my moms number, from the first call I gave them my number and told them not to call my mom. 9 am the next morning my mom calls me, they called her. They ask for a spare key, I tell them I can't find it but that doesn't matter, it's not the key because xyz. I think it's a relay issue, blown fuse, starter, blah blah. Ok. At 2 something pm I call them back, what's going on? They're like oh it's not the battery (no shit) but the car doesn't recognize the key. Yes, I already knew this? I already told them this? They're insistent on the key. The guy on the phone tells me he's not a mechanic so he can't answer my question, I talk to the mechanic. The mechanic is so insistent on the key. So I call 2 key makers I know, both tell me it's not the key. I have worked in the automotive industry for 11 years, I know this. Regardless I send one there to make a key. He begs me not to and says it's a waste of my money. Layton calls my mother AGAIN to tell her they're running diagnostics. Waste of time, I already did this. My key guy goes there and he can't make the key because it won't program. He charges me a small amount for his time and tell me the people at this shop have no idea what's going on and I need to get my car out of there. I call Layton and tell them once again it's not the key, I don't think they checked any of the issues I suggested, they tell me no codes came back. They had my car for 1.5 days and they revealed nothing and checked the things I told them I already checked but seemingly did nothing else. So I call early in the morning to tell them I'm towing it out of there and I get a new guy, Tony. Tony sounds infinitely more intelligent than whoever else I talked to but tells me he's sick and the shop is backed up and he's so sick he probably shouldn't even be there. He tells me the other guy was training, blah blah. He tells me he knew it wasn't the key and if I were there yesterday I wouldn't have had to waste my money sending a key guy there. Whatever. I tell him to send me the bill. Once again, for maybe the 5th time, they call my mother. I call back and pay their $85 bill. I spent that and $100 to tow my car plus $50 for my generous key guy and wasted 1.5 days for them to do NOTHING and not listen to me. My car went to Hyundai, in a few hours they diagnosed it and replaced my starter and charged me typically dealer prices. I live in Key West so I rented a car to go home. I spent $500 and wasted days of my life with Layton, so I figured I'd ask them... how did they miss this? I call Tony, he's short and honestly rude. He tells me the car was in anti theft mode so they couldn't do anything. Honestly piss poor excuse. One time they did something to my mothers brakes and they busted them up somehow that they didn't work. She let them fix it. My mother was driving around town with brakes that didn't work, unacceptable. Entirely incompetent, rude, unhelpful, and a time suck. I spent over $1100 getting a starter, what a joke. read more

So... my son's 185K miles Dodge truck did a funny thing and wouldn't give power to the engine above 10mph. Took it over to Layton's based on a great recommendation from someone in my office. It was late in the day so I left it overnight. Next morning Layton's began diagnosing the problem, but could not get it to replicate. So they kept it until the afternoon and tried again... still nothing. Here is where the fun begins. Instead of making up some bogus repair just to get $$$ from me, Larry won't charge me because there was nothing to fix. Several neighbors recommended Layton's when I moved here and I've been a loyal customer for 10 years. The first thing I noticed was how clean their garage was. But the thing I like most about them is that they don't overdiagnose and recommend unnecessary work (unlike most dealerships). At first I just used them for minor things like oil changes instead of going to my Chrysler dealer, which was much farther away. However, I was still under warranty so I kept going to the dealer for the maintenance for which I was covered. Then, at my last inspection there, my dealer gave me a long list of recommended work totaling over $1900. Just to check, I took it to Layton's and they had a good laugh. I didn't need any of it except for a minor valve adjustment for $45. That's when I began using them regularly. Two years ago I got a new car and again started going the dealer (Volvo) to get what my warranty covered. Then, a few days after their last oil change for me, my husband noticed a pool of liquid under the front end. It turned out that the dealership didn't replace the cap on the oil tank, and I had spillage all over the engine. I haven't returned to the dealership since. Layton's does quality work and I almost always pay less than I expected. They're not cheap but they make up for it by only doing what is necessary and not inventing problems that don't exist. Their staff is courteous and pleasant. If you bring your car for minor work, you may have a long wait but there's a waiting room with coffee and stacks of magazines, and if you don't want to wait, they will usually offer you a ride home if you're local. read more

I stopped by to get my tire plugged and when I walked in I wasn't addressed. I stood in the window waiting for 5 minutes as the guys stood talking in the back. I then said, very loud and clear, "excuse me." They kept talking. I stood there for 5 more minutes and said excuse me again. They clearly felt their conversation was more important.
