Lazees's interior is lovely and modern. The menu is extensive and the food is delicious. We started with a chicken samosa that was presented beautifully. My partner ordered the Tikka Masala Chicken. The sauce was creamy and delicious. The chicken had an aromatic hint. Absolutely fantastic. I had the Mirch Masala Paneer which was also delicious. The paneer was firm and rich. The gravy was oilier than I prefer but it did not detract from the dish. Maybe it was an off day but service was not what I would expect. In fact, I felt that taking care of us was a n inconvenience to both servers who came to our table and the host who never spoke to us. read more

Such a beautiful restaurant! Tucked away in an unassuming strip mall off of Broad with a parking lot out front, you'd never guess how nice it is inside. The food and service were both fantastic. The prices were a bit higher than other nearby Indian restaurants, but it was certainly worth the dine-in experience. There were tons of people doing take out, which led me to believe this was a popular spot. The chicken cashew appetizer was the best - I couldn't get enough, and even ordered another one to go. The entrees come with unlimited(!) basmati rice. I ordered the paneer tikka masala, and it was so buttery and creamy and amazing, and there was so much left over. Having seen the great reviews and friends speaking highly of this place, I wanted to try it out. I stopped in for lunch. The place was mostly empty with only one other table of guests present during my visit. The restaurant is attractive and I found the service to be polite and prompt. The food was spiced well and flavorful but my saag did come out with a large lump of melting butter on top. I found that to be unnecessary and will ask that they forego that if I return in the future. The naan was also on tbe greasier side. Additionally, I found the lunch prices to be somewhat higher than what would be considered the norm for similar meals in the area. Overall, I'd say it was a decent meal and experience but not a stand-out by any stretch of the imagination. read more

Such an underrated Indian restaurant! The service is so good & all their dishes have so much flavor. My favorites are the Buffalo mozzarella saag & fragile cashew malai kebab. I visited Lazeez Modern Indian Flair and it was amazing! They provide an upscale dining experience with modern flair and it's family owned. Lazeez also means delicious, delightful or yummy and their food is true to those words! For starters we had the lentil chawal arancini and it was tasty. For entrees we had butter chicken and duck portobello masala with rice and garlic naan. All of it was soooo good! We also got whatever usual chicken tikka masala and then I tried something different the vindaloo which I definitely recommend we ordered it at a number three spicy which is medium possibly could've done a number four! Still my favorite Indian restaurant in town. They have the most innovative menu! Everything is good but love the Cornish hen.

Been wanting to try Lazeez for a few weeks now, and finally decided to give it a go last night. The restaurant is tucked away off Broad St. and near the Royal Bazaar Farmers Market and Indian Grocery. There are several other eateries near here as well. I had looked them up online and was able to make an automated reservation with Google prior to our arrival. Fortunately when we arrived, there was no wait and we were seated promptly. There are both tables and booths with plenty of seating. In fact, the center of the restaurant has sparse seating with more seats near the walls. We were seated and approached by an enthusiastic waitress who took our drink orders. I minute later, we were approached by a waiter with request to take our drink orders (again). There were several other patrons there as well. Drinks arrived shortly thereafter. We looked thoroughly through the menu which has an array of indian cuisine standards as well as not so common options including: Lobster, Lamb Shank, Duck masala, Chicken Cordon Bleu, and Cornish hen in tikka masala. We opted to start with the Fried Oysters. These were quickly served up on a dish that was decorated with spring greens, a flower, and remoulade dipping sauce. The oysters were crispy, tasty, and well prepared. For the meal we ordered the Lamb Seekh Kebab, Poussin Tikka Masala (cornish hen), and Duck Portobello Masala. We also ordered a couple Naan (traditional bread) as well. A few minutes later our kebabs were served. These were 4 kebab pieces arranged nicely on a plate with a zesty green chutney sauce and artfully constructed garnish of greens and a flower. Each piece had a mild spiciness and was perfectly rendered and juicy. They certainly make a great appetizer for 2. Soon thereafter, our duck and cornish hen arrived. The duck (breasts) was nicely prepared with two nicely sized pieces in a colorful masala sauce with mushrooms. The flavor was nicely complex without being overbearing. The cornish hen was divided into pieces which still retained pieces of bone, so that required a bit of careful eating. The rice was superbly done and perfectly separated with traditional peas and ghee. The naan was exquisitely prepared, fluffy, with a perfect balance of crispiness and ghee. Unfortunately, our plates were ice cold and so the temperature of the food quickly dissipated to a luke-warm. Still, the flavors were good. We finished off the meal with the Gulab Jamun Parfait (sweet fried balls of semolina with whipped cream and nuts. It was quite good and certainly perfect for sharing. There was plenty of leftovers, so we packed those up to take home. All-in-all, the experience at Lazeez was a nice one. The restaurant appears clean and staff is certainly enthusiastic. Our waitress was attentive, and happy to make any suggestions if necessary. However, when we received the check, the prices were a bit different. On each item, there appeared to be exactly an additional 3% added. I searched the menu, and there was indeed a small note about this upcharge. However, if you paid cash, there would be no upcharge. Perhaps the only complaint I have is the dinner and appetizer plates being ice-cold. It would make a huge difference if the dinner plates (at least) were warmed up. This is quite traditional among most Indian restaurants I've dined at over the years. Also, having an upcharge seems petty. If you need to charge a bit more, then do that rather than making customers pay the processing fee to use their debit and credit cards. Just a thought. Despite the latter, I would definitely recommend Lazeez to both Indian food lovers and those seeking a culinary adventure! read more

My husband and I went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Loved the flavor of chilli garlic potstickers - i got it medium but for next time I'd get one spice level up. Loved the tomato soup. Malai kebab : chicken was very tender and cooked perfectly. The sauce was subtle and sweet. Absolutely loved the paneer mirch masala that was our favorite dish of our meal. For our meal, we ordered the duck tikka masala. I was OK on this dish while my boyfriend loved it, especially the next day for leftovers. Be warned, the meat will look very small compared to the gravy, but it was still decently filling! We had leftovers after splitting the chaat and 1 entree w/ naan. I've eaten at every Indian restaurant in town, today my regular spot was closed at lunch so I decided to try this restaurant out since it's the newest in town. They have been opened for 2 months now. I got there around 12 and was the only customer there, when going to new restaurant I ordered variety of things to try, I was by myself and ordered the chicken momo (dumpling) chicken cashew sauce for apps and butter curry chicken and chicken korma for entrees. Chicken momo was good- I love Nepalese and Himalayas cuisine and this is the first restaurant in Richmond that gets it right. The cashew chicken creama- perfectly creamy and flavorful- def an elevated Indian dish Chicken korma/chicken butter masala- I thought they were on the too sweet side and over take the taste. They charge grill the chicken so that what saved the dish. But I would not order this again next time. the service was very good. The chef came and say hello. I would try this restaurant again but will order less traditional dishes and more of their unique dishes read more

Amazing Indian food! Like others, we got the malai chicken kebabs and chicken momus with Chile (the server recommended it) for appetizers. The kebabs were great and the momus were amazing, but they charged an extra $4 for chile (which is kind of a lot for chile sauce) and the server did not tell us it was an up charge. For our entrees, we got the saag paneer and the chef's special chicken pyratthi dari (SO FREAKING GOOD!!) I highly recommend asking for that if you want to try something different from butter or tikka masala chicken. Lassi was fantastic as well. We found our new takeout place :) read more

We went to Lazeez today for lunch. Wow, amazing food, friendly service, reasonable prices, amazing food. Did I mention the food?! By far, the Chandni chowk chaat katori is the best appetizer in town. You can taste every fresh element of the dish and it comes together with layers of flavor. Another great item was the Daru chicken curry. Not sure what to expect from the description but it was a tomato (vindaloo type) sauce with just a hint of a deep maple flavor with several pieces of chicken. The lunch entrees come with naan, soup or salad, and rice. We got the vindaloo chicken, level 3 out of 5 spice, could have bumped it up more. Large pieces of chicken with plenty of sauce. The naan is made fresh, comes to the table hot . Several owners were on hand working. Waitress, Diamond, was very attentive. We will be back again. read more

We tried Lazeez Modern Indian Flair recently. Being Indian, I was skeptical at first, since Indian food always takes me down memory lane and most restaurants don't cut it for me. But I was pleasantly surprised. The food was as close as it comes to authentic Indian food with a modern take. Well balanced and not overly spicy. If any of you happen to check it out, try the chaat and Himalayan potstickers for apps and the lamb shank with garlic naan for entrees. The Tikka masala (not shown here) was great too. I ordered Goat Biryani with butter Naan and a spatial kiwi drink! Biryani dish had almost no meet, it was mostly bones and it tasted more as lamb rather than goat! The butter Naan was fine! And my love for Momos made me order the Himalayan pot stickers which is nothing different but Momos as we Indians/ Nepalese call it and trust me you will get the authentic taste of Momos. Went in for lunch on a Saturday. Not busy at all which I prefer. Quieter and usually better service if servers are not stressed. The ambience was very cool and I really liked it. We were sat immediately by a waitress. Super sweet and friendly. The food was good. Now, mind you, I'm not someone who ever CRAVES Indian food so I don't have a go to dish. I got the shrimp biryani and my friend got the lamb biryani. We got a mango lassi, samosa as an appetizer and a side of garlic naan. The vegetable samosas were great, piping hot, crispy and just a good amount of subtle spices. Very aromatic and reasonably priced. Mango Lassi also was good but I wish it was colder. Also reasonably priced. GARLIC NAAN. Get. This. In my opinion, it could have been more "chewy" (in a good way) but it had a crisp bottom. It had the perfect amount of aromatics along with a hint of garlic that was very pleasant. The biryanis were okay. Everything served beautifully but I can't get over the fact I bit into multiple cardamom pods. That was one of the downfalls. Service is where I'm giving it less than five stars. Waitstaff was EXTREMELY nice. But would have been nice to not have to wait 25 to find someone to ask for a check or boxes. (The food was a very generous amount. HELLO DINNER FOR TONIGHT!!) And another 20 minutes waiting for someone to pick up the payment. Again, super nice but i would have appreciated a little bit more attention. Price wise, if you pick the right dishes, it can be very reasonable prices. Will I seek it out again? Probably not. But that's just me. If friends wanted to go, I'd be happy with it as a choice. Took a day trip to the corner of the exotic Indian Cuisine district of Richmond to take in the ambiance of this newly opened gem. Service was incredibly attentive while guiding us through the myriad of unique menu options. While the Chaaz Fry Oysters were a disappointment to us, the Fragile Cashew Malai Kebab recommended by our host was a creamy smoky success. We followed up with The Sparrow Grass Salmon. It was a traditional tandoori Salmon where the rice was the real star. Full of flavorful nuttiness, it should not be missed. In addition, we tried the Goat with an off menu creamy cashew curry sauce. Took my wife here on a date. When you order they ask the level of spicy heat you want on a scale of 1-5. My wife said she likes hot food and ordered a 4. I said I don't like it hot and ordered a 1 or mild. When food came out it seemed our heat levels were switched. My wife's wasn't very hot whereas mine was not edible it was so hot. It took 25 min to get our food so my wife said she didn't want to send hers back. But I had no choice. I just can't eat spicy hot food. When the waitress brought my revised food out she informed me that it was prepared BABY mild. I was a little suspicious because the new plate had the same lemon slice and same boiled egg (I had cut the original one). The food was the same. Literally. No change. The waitress walked away without reply and never returned. A new waitress got us our check while the 1st waitress stood over at the bar talking with the bartender while pointing at us and laughing. Humiliating. And the check included my unwanted, uneaten food. Nope. Not going back. But the Naan was excellent! read more
