Decent food- some of it was tagged as spicy, but was really sweet instead. What irritated me during this experience is that the owner or whoever else was on the counter at the time of my dinner with my wife saw that there was a kid in the crowd. Now, because this kid was starting to cry or probably the parents knew the owners or whatever the person on the counter litter he started playing Cocomelon songs. They kept playing these songs for about 30 minutes. My wife and I were trying to celebrate her birthday with some good Indian food that would help us feel nostalgic about home but the unnecessary Cocomelon actually ruined our experience. I understand trying to appease a kid is necessary in some cases. But a full-blown dinner restaurant where various people of various ages visit to sit down and enjoy a meal in peace is not one of them. read more

As far as I know, Honest is Richmond's only pure veg restaurant. (If you don't know Indian restaurant vocabulary, that means no meat or eggs at all.) The menu is a mix of South Indian staples, Mumbai street-food classics, Punjabi dishes, and Chinese-inspired things. Some menu items have Jain and Swaminarayan alternatives and I have been here with Jain friends who were pleased with the offerings and preparation. Honest is a decent cafe and restaurant in Richmond which is our go to place when we want ti have quick vegetarian snacking stuffs like different variety if Chaats or South Indian or Indo Chinese dishes (which we Indians apparently love ) . Try their Papdi Chaat and Bhel it's nice and my friend loves their Noodles also which I am not a fan of but just mentioning what she likes there. The seating place is quite spacious and it's peaceful, staff was attentive and they do provide a nice customer experience. Their plating and overall presentation can improve coz it seems like every plate has similar garnishes and condiments. Overall recommended. read more

This place should be renamed to "Dishonest". They are skimping on every single thing, Sandwich barely had any filling to speak of, its primarily bread. Also, ordered Dabeli, and same thing, it had almost no filling at all. And if that wasn't enough, I had bad stomach pain after eating here, lasted 2 days to clean the system. Ingreditents are stale. Based on experience, any good reviews you see here are fake, self-promotion by owner. Beware and avoid. Terrible experience, will not visit again. read more

My family has eaten here several times and never been disappointed. The dosa meals are DELICIOUS! I almost always get the masala dosa, and the potato and onion on the inside are buttery, hot and tasty. We've also tried the Paneer Chili Dry (wonderful!), the Punjabi Thali (ridiculously good), the Manchurian Dry (more Chinese than Indian, but also fabulous) and the fresh-squeezed sugar cane juice (refreshingly sweet). The staff here is incredibly friendly, and I kind of love that the intensity of the food ranges from "baby mild" to hot. We found the prices to be very reasonable -- 4 of us ate our faces off for under $100. The ambiance is so-so -- it's a spacious dining area with tile floors, so it gets a bit loud and echo-y in there. I'm thinking a few tapestries on the walls would probably take care of that. But overall, this place has become one of our very favorite restaurants to visit. We travel about an hour to get there, and it's been well worth it every time! read more

Vegans run away. This place is not for you. I am leaving this review while incredibly hangry, but I want everyone to know this place which is billed as 100% vegetarian Indian food only has ONE vegan option and it is plain rice. Unbelievable. The interior is beautiful. The server was nice enough and I'm sure if we were basic vegetarians, the food would of been wonderful, but when I asked what on the menu was vegan and was told only the rice, I was stunned. I asked if anything could be made vegan and he said no. Due to a storm, there's no power at our house and I couldn't cook dinner for my family so I loaded up the kids and drove here hoping for a hot meal. We are so sad. I hope this place gets it together and starts offering vegan food or at least the way to veganise what they already serve. What would Krishna do? read more

They were open on Christmas eve, Appreciate it! The food was okish but hate the wait times. They never deliver on time. I feel you should order in afternoon for dinner. The food is not value for money. A 10$ bhaji won't even feed a couple. Overall the quantity is really poor. Other restaurants would charge you on the basis of calories provided/quantity provided. Is this restaurant having luxurious ambience or something where they incur tremendous overhead expenses? Probably not. Is Indian food an exclusive at broad street? Probably not. I am not able to understand the misleading overpriced food. I could have decided to let it go and not give a 1 star but they are not working on customer feedbacks. We've eaten here a lot of times and done plenty of large takeouts for dinners and parties. The food here is spot-on. This is superb Ahmedabad cuisine and hands down the best Pav Bhaji in the world. They make no compromises on flavor, ingredients and service. We've eaten all the chaats and I recommend Sev Puri, Dahi Puri. I'd say Bhel is probably their only underwhelming Chaat. Garlic naan is tender yet crisp, the curries are heavily seasoned so this isn't your 'mild and creamy' curry- it's your 'bring this on Ahmedabad' feel. Pulao is so much like the one served by the Bhaji Pav, it's this unique type of rice dish that locals from the Western part of india would know. Chole Puri is superb, but it's whole some so it will fill you up soon. The sandwiches are SO GOOD! My favorite is the Bhakri pizza- it will take you on a journey if it's your first time trying it. Firstly, this is Indian food. If you don't like Indian food, skip this place--the entire menu is ethnic. I adore it so I was very happy. Honest has almost all the same dishes as every other Indian restaurant in town, except? Honest is completely vegetarian with no options to add meat. The eating area is large, well lit, and full of windows. If you have a sun allergy, be sure to use sunscreen first. The servers are considerate and despite not being a vegetarian, I liked it so much I'll be back for more. However, more seating and some atmosphere would really improve things! All in all, I think this is one of, if not the only, best Indian fare in town. The prices are fair, the entire place is glistening clean, and the service is timely. The restaurant has a wide menu and everything I've tried is awesome. We recently had the Bahubali sandwich and it was so so good!!! The Bombay style sandwich toasted with veggies .. it was great. My dad loved the Punjabi thali. Only suggestion would be to add a dry vegetable to the Thali (I.e. Aloo gobhi, bharta, etc). The Thali is all curries. read more

The taste of Ahmedabad from New Jersey to Richmond! Absolutely exciting to have a close by place to enjoy Indian street food close by. I would highly recommend Dubung Dosa and American chopsey. The food is overall fresh and moderate hot compared to the image of Indian food. For beverages, I highly recommend masala chai and rose faluda. Other dishes I had - Pav bhaji, Hakka noodles, club sandwich, bahubali sandwich, Rava onion chili masala dosa, honest pizza and pani puri. I least liked pizza, of course it is an Indian style and spice is good. I did not enjoy the base that much. This was our first time at Honest and it most certainly will NOT be our last. Everything we ordered (Pav Bhaji, Dosas, Asian noodles, Mango Lassi, two different flavored Falooda) was exceptional! Service was a bit slow but I know they will up their game as they get more acquainted since the restaurant and staff are fairly new. Can't wait to be back. My mouth starts to water just thinking about this place. They have such a fun selection of foods that hit the spot, whether you're craving some good Indian street food or a full meal on the weekend, they've got it. I LOVE the pav bhaji, dosas, papdi chaat, noodles, sandwiches (don't have a favorite yet), and pizzas. They're samosas are alright. Sambhar was average too, tasted more like daal than sambhar. I have visited this place twice. And on both occasions I was presently surprised by the food. All dishes were delicious. The special pulav is seriously one of my favorite meals of all time. However... on each occasion I used their site (a Menufy site) to order. I selected the pick up time and always provided at least a one hour lead time on both occasions. I arrive up to pick up the order and on both times was warmly greeted and informed that it would be "another ten minutes or so." On both occasions I waited over 40 minutes before the order was completed. The food is good, but over an hour and a half to prepare those food is unrealistic and bad customer service to not keep me informed. Furthermore, on both occasions left items of the order. They had plenty of time to verify and since they check off the items, with a marker, as the go on the printed ticket, why was it not provided? I will definitely be visiting again as the food is that good. Please do so with forewarning as well. If prefer food prepared by people with some concept of time, do not go here. If they are using Menufy, I know they have full control over offering more realistic options for pick up time estimates that fall more in line with actual food preparation expectations. And COVID-19 is not an excuse for long wait times and bad customer service either. read more
