That being said the food and service was excellent. I had a spicy tuna roll, chicken satay dumplings, and miso soup. First two were excellent, miso soup was nothing to brag about but not bad. It's miso soup, what do you expect. The fish is very fresh, it's noticeable in color and taste. Definitely come here when craving sushi. The only issue is accessibility and parking in this area. Stopped here while downtown on a Saturday night. We had reservations for 6pm and showed up after parking at 6:05 and were sat quickly. Kind of a loud spot but upstairs location and reminded me of a place found in DC. Ordered a diet soda and two appetizers - the tuna poppers and dumplings to start. The dumplings were good - wish there was an option to have them fried but the steamed was really good. The tuna poppers are a MUST HAVE. Just the right size, deep fried, I liked the sauce on top, and could just eat these for the whole meal. I bounced back and forth on what to order, but channeled my inner Vog and got the Beef noodle which I likened to having a Ramen dish. This was also really good - good portion of beef, broth was dead on and the flavors were incredible. Would recommend this 10/10 times. I will preface my review by saying that I am not very knowledgeable about nor a big fan of sushi and other Asian raw fish appetizers, and entrées. I believe that the other folks I shared this lunch with would likely rate the experience much higher than I do. One couple shared a large platter of different "rolls" of seafood and other items. I believe they thought that their choice was an excellent one. I tasted some of the Miso soup, and it was quite good. My wife had the shrimp and vegetable tempura "Beto box" and I believe she also enjoyed it very much. I ordered the Asian wings appetizer. After all of the other appetizers were delivered, and some had been eaten the waiter started to clear away the appetizer plates. I asked where the Asian wings were and he said he had forgotten to put that order in, made a barely audible apology, and asked if I still wanted the wings? I declined. My order was Rib Eye Bulgogi bowl. It was an interesting, somewhat spicy dish of sliced ribeye steak over rice. I liked it, but would not classify it as excellent or outstanding. Two other diners had an assortment of raw fish: tuna steak, fatty tuna, salmon, white fish, yellow eye, shrimp, and I can't remember what else. They seem to enjoy it although I did notice that the white fish, yellow eye, and one other fish species were barely consumed. I will close my review by saying that those who dine here regularly and have a great appreciation for Asian fusion sushi and other raw fish items will probably be highly critical of my review. However, those like me who do not have an great appreciation for this type of cuisine, or who a even find it not appetizing, will probably appreciate my review. First time here and I have to say that we are beyond impressed with this spot!! We came here on our anniversary looking for something more than the usual sushi that's everywhere. We brought in some fresh wasabi root and the owner prepared that for us along with many items not found elsewhere. Japanese whisky? Didn't know that it was a thing and you wanna talk smooth. Ever since moving to Frederick, I have been dying to try out Lazy Fish. And let me tell you- all the positive reviews are right on the money! Nestled above a Thai restaurant, Lazy Fish offers a high-quality Asian bistro experience that would not be out of place in DC. We called ahead on a Friday night, and the hostess informed us there was a 30-40 minute wait. Just enough time to grab a drink or two at Brewer's Alley down the street (shoutout to their delicious seasonal cocktails). Roughly 35 minutes, later we got a call from Lazy Fish letting us know our table was ready. We booked it back over, headed upstairs, and were led to a cute little booth overlooking Patrick Street. The ambiance of Lazy Fish was impeccable. There was a solid mix of couples and friends out for a fun sushi dinner. The decor was modern, industrial, and screamed sushi restaurant (see pictures). But that's what you want from a sushi date, right? For drinks, we split a large sake. My date didn't love the sake so we got him a Sapporo. He was a happy camper after that. I personally thought the sake was tasty, and ended up drinking the large, reasonably priced at $15, by myself. We started with a salad, miso soup, and the shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer. The salad was fresh and crisp, but nothing to write home about. We will probably skip it upon our next visit. Same with the miso soup. Tasty, but if it did not come with our meal we probably wouldn't order it separately. You can get miso soup anywhere. The tempura however, was absolutely divine. Deliciously tender, light and airy. And I am a Japanese food snob coming from Northern Virginia. Seriously don't skip the tempura. And it comes with broccoli so it's healthy, right? Next up, we split the Pong Nigiri, a $31 assortment of 12 pieces of nigiri. If you are a big sashimi fan, the Pong Nigiri is a great option to try a bit of everything. If raw fish isn't your thing, maybe this isn't for you. More for me! All the pieces of fish were fresh and delicious. The barbequed eel was a highlight- perfectly tender and sweet. Runner up was the octopus, if that's your sort of thing. All the pieces were fresh and not at all 'fishy' (except for the mackerel, but fishiness comes with the territory there). For our entrée, we split an assortment of rolls. We ordered the Shark Tank, Silly Sally, and Dragon Lady. The rolls were presented beautifully, with a flower garnish in the wasabi. Starting from our least favorite, the Shark Tank, which came garnished with microgreens. And to be clear, just because it was our least favorite does -not- mean it was not delicious! It was certainly a tough competition between these three rolls. The Shark Tank seemed pretty standard- spicy tuna, and avocado topped with spicy ponzu, tempura flakes, and topped with seared pepper tuna. Basically a spicy tuna roll with avocado. With the wide variety of specialty rolls on the menu, we probably wouldn't order this one again. Not to say it was bad, just not that exciting. Up next, the Dragon Lady roll. As someone with an Asian mom, I simply ~had~ to order this roll. The Dragon Lady roll comes with cajun salmon, asparagus, roasted red pepper, avocado, and eel sauce, and is topped with BBQ eel. The asparagus added a unique flavor, which complimented the salmon well. And did I mention the eel here is to die for? Finally, we got the Silly Sally, which consists of eel tempura, asparagus, eel sauce, black tobiko, and is topped with seared cajun salmon. Eel and tempura are two of the best things at Lazy Fish. And with those powers combined... you get the Silly Sally roll! Asparagus in sushi is not something I have seen at other restaurants, and Lazy Fish's execution is *chef's kiss*. Perfectly crisp, fresh, and blended well with the other ingredients. My only regret is we did not have room for dessert. I can't wait to go back to try their happy hour plates. The service was attentive and stopped by frequently. As someone who spent years in the restaurant industry, I can appreciate a good server- and Lazy Fish did not disappoint. I only wish I would've remembered her name to shout her out (but I was a little tipsy after the sake lol). Our bill came out to ~$115 before tip, which is NOT bad for the quantity and quality of food we received. All in all, a glowing 5/5 review for Lazy Fish! This restaurant is truly a hidden gem in Frederick. As someone who is also Thai, I cannot wait to go back and try more of what Chef Pong has to offer. read more

Like another recent reviewer, my family members and I weren't wowed by Lazy Fish based on food and service. Ambiance, however, was A+ with a recent interior makeover that adds beautiful flowers hanging from the ceiling, new art, and new partial room divider. Great vibe. Our server was friendly but dropped the ball on appetizer and entree timing. Everything was brought in one big food delivery dump. He faulted the kitchen, but having been a server myself for many years, it's a server's job to control the meal flow. Even if the kitchen doesn't take care of it for wait staff, they can determine pacing based on when they turn orders in or alert the kitchen that table #___ needs more time because they're eating slowly. Regarding the food, we found no fault with fish freshness or flavor. If you want basic sushi or nigiri, this is the place to go. Sadly, the accompanying wasabi was so lacking in flavor, we couldn't taste it! And they barely provided pickled ginger, even with a nigiri sampler for $19. We also got cooked salmon in a sauce over rice with a few spears of asparagus to accompany it. The salmon was a beautiful piece, cooked perfectly medium as requested, but the sauce was just meh, detracted from the fish, and there were only three asparagus spears riding along. There's a serious lack on the veggie front. You can get veg sushi rolls, and maybe a salad and miso soup, but that's about it. While we're not 100 percent vegetarian, we eat plant-based meals most days. We also need to eat gluten-free, and there were few GF options--not even rice noodles to sub for pasta on noodle dishes, so those were out. They did sub sushi rice for the noodles that would have been served with the salmon, but I would've preferred a GF noodle. In short, Lazy Fish has many of the components to be solidly good and a place we would return to. Prices are reasonable for the quality of the fish and portion sizes. It just falls short in too many areas important to me and my family to make it onto our regular rotation. read more

Let me start off by saying, I've been here many times with either a few people or myself. Every time I've gone to Lazy Fish it's always quick seating, the service here is 5 Star. Sushi Chefs are always friendly when you come in and go to leave saying Hi Bye and Thank You! The Servers are always prompt, happy to help out with menu items or any questions. The dishes come out rather quick too which is nice if you want to just come in a'd get a few pieces of Nigiri or some Sushi! That's what I love about it. Always go there to get some Sashimi then pay my bill and head down the street to Tsunami for Ramen!! Can't say more better thing about Lazy Fish. This place is one of my absolute favorites in Frederick, and overall favorites for Sushi. You walk upstairs to the restaurant and there's additional lofted seating as well. They're not a sushi place that goes over the top or places too many things on the menu. Thusly, their sushi is always fresh and enjoyable. If you venture toward cooked/other Asian fusion options you'll be pleased as well. My boyfriend had previously had a poor sushi experience and I insisted he give Lazy Fish a try before he rule it out altogether. Filling for this roll and all others had a good balance between rice to fish. Yellowtail roll = 5. A standard roll but fresh and the green onion gives it a bit of a kick. Hello yellow roll = 5. This place is really cute and the entrance is a bit hidden (it is behind the Thai restaurant and on the second level). Our waitress was really nice and food was decent. I got the Chirashi bowl, it was less selection of sashimi than usual for the price in my experience. The large hot sake was also expensive for the price, but it was pretty strong so maybe that's why. It was Valentines Day and I didn't know what to expect. I arrived about 7 and didn't know if I would end up at the bar. Turns out they had a table on the third floor that was open and I sat up there. The server was very flexible and helpful on how much food to order for 1. She said if I see it and want more to let her know and she would get something else started.
