Crying tiger, wontons, tempura trio, Thai dumplings
    David H.

Bloom Asian Haus = flavor fireworks. The Thai dumplings were silky and packed with flavor, the wontons had that perfect spicy bite, and the crying tiger? Bold, grilled, and unforgettable. Even the tempura sampler hit crispy perfection. Chic space, shareable plates, and a menu that makes you want to order everything twice. Drinks were also out of this world!

I immediately fell in love with the vibe of this restaurant! It's so colorful! Had amazing drinks. Loved my lychee cosmo. My friend got the Hemlock. Both were great! My friend and I tried the chor muang dumplings and the Szechuan dumplings. Chor Muang weren't really my favorite, the texture was gooey for me-- kind of gelatinous. Enjoy the Szechuan ones, however definitely not spicy. I had the Sa-Tay for my main meal which was alright. Lovely peanut sauce, the chicken had some pretty dried out pieces and they veggies are truly steamed.. no seasoning. My friend had the beef bulgogi bowl which she enjoyed. Service was nice and they sat us early for our reservation which was great!

Closed during posted open hours. Took off work, got dressed nicely and drove 45 min to come here to just get disappointed

Absolutely disappointed when we took off of work to have a nice little lunch date we got dressed up nicely for and drove out 45 min for. It was 12:45 pm on Monday, December 8th, and we saw the lights off and the "closed" sign with no explanation on the door. There is no messaging system stating the restaurant is closed and we made sure to check the hours on the website to ensure Bloom was open, as we know many restaurants are closed Monday or Tuesday. As you can see from the photo we took when we arrived, the hours posted on the door do not show the restaurant should have been closed at that time.

What an experience!! The inside is gorgeous and the food is even better! My friends and I came here for a late night dinner and we had the most amazing time! The service was fantastic and we ate so much! Really loved the tofu boa buns and the cocktails! Highly recommend!!!

The presentation of the food and cocktails were beautiful AND everything lived up to the presentation. It was all delicious. Add in the gorgeous ambience and this restaurant is a no-brained for visiting and existing again. I plan on bringing out of town family to show off what Frederick has to offer. The waitstaff was also attentive and helpful.

Expectations- We wanted Asian cuisine with a little ambience for our holiday get together. This place is quite unique inside - but overall, the food was just okay. In fact, I would sacrifice the ambience for great food instead! We ordered three different apps and probably wouldn't order any of them again. The dumpling soup was too salty and vegetables left too large to even attempt to eat- two spoonfuls was all we could eat. The only items I would order again were the garlic chicken bowl and the Lychee Cosmo! Service was attentive and checked in on us plenty.

Bloom was such an unexpected treat. My friend and I were in Frederick walking around and were drawn in by the stunning colors of the restaurant. The entire inside of the restaurant has amazing style. We sat at the bar and ordered appetizers, the chive dumplings, and the veggie mini pancakes were exceptional. The ube fries were spectacular. The bartender was attentive and friendly and very helpful in choosing items. The drinks were also good. We enjoyed the lychee cosmo. The sesame old fashioned is for those who like Japanese whiskey. Overall, this was a standout experience and I cannot wait to go back.

My party of 3 arrived around an hour and a half before closing. Service: was decent. We were seated right away because it was not busy. It took them a while to take our orders. One of the staffs came to us and asked if we were ever served yet after like 10 minutes of receiving our menus. It took them a while to refill my water; I had to ask for a refill. Food came out fairly quickly. 5.5/10 Food Presentation: Everything we had was presented very beautifully. 10/10 Food Taste: *Dumpling Soup - Pretty good. Tasted homemade. 8/10 *Trio Tempura - Bland, but the tempura dipping sauce was good. I like the fried parts, nice and crunchy. 5/10 *Squid Leg Karaage - Pretty good too. Again, I like the fried part, and the squid was tender and soft. The sauce was good too. I just wished the squid had more flavor. 7/10 *Ube Fries - Very bland, but the fried part is good. Texture was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. 6/10 *Hokkaido Scallop Ceviche - Had a very pungent fish sauce smell, but the taste of everything together was alright. I like the pickled onions. There just wasn't a "wow" factor to this dish. 6/10 *Chor Muang - Strong peanut smell, texture of the dough is like mochi. Taste was very underwhelming. For such a beautifully presented dish, it was lacking so much flavor. 3/10 *Lemon Drop Martini and Mango Sticky Rice Cocktail - Sweet but very strong. 5.7/10 Ambience: This place is so aesthetically pleasing, the lights, flower decor, and colors were so beautiful!! 10/10 I honestly wouldn't come here again. Yes, the decor is beautiful and food presentation is gorgeous, but the food was very mediocre. However, this place was on my list to try, and I'm very glad I was able to eat here. Overall Rating: 6/10

100% perfection from the cocktail to the roti and curry. This is a must visit! I can't wait to go back.

My friend and I came for dinner on a Friday night. It was surprisingly slow but we noticed that about Frederick as a whole that night. The interior is very cute and harlequin. We were greeted and seated immediately. The food was delicious and beautifully plated. We ordered the Sichuan wontons, crying tiger steak, and soft shell crab tempura bao to share. It was plenty of food. Our server was not super attentive and was kind of awkward. He didn't seem to really know the menu either. Maybe he was new. I would definitely recommend this spot if you're craving Thai fusion.

Her verdict: Modern Asia's was "OK", and she told me I could eat the leftovers for my lunch. I did. My verdict was the same: OK, but nothing to write home to Mother about. (My comparison, BTW, is to a restaurant we enjoyed in Ithaca New York that made Kung Pao with peppers that would flay your face from the inside if you dared to eat one. Modern Asia's didn't even tickle, making it a let down). I ordered Seafood Combination Chinese Yellow Curry, a new dish for me. It was yummy. Described as one-pepper spicy on the menu, it had less heat than the Kung Pao, but the curry sauce had layers of flavor. It featured shrimp, scallops, and calmari plus a wonderful mix of peppers, onions, and other veg. All were nicely (crisply) cooked, even taking into account the Door Dash delivery time. I really enjoyed it. Next time I may ask for a bit more heat, but as it is, I hoovered up every morsel. Try it - you'll like it!

I liked the addition of panko breadcrumbs for crunch, but I wish the imitation crab meat had been shredded more finely for better texture. For my entree, I ordered the Spicy Basil Crispy Duck (added $1 for Thai spicy). They definitely delivered on the spicy level, but the duck itself was not crispy. It came with rice and bell peppers and basil. The sushi tasted fresh, which was good. Service could use some improvement. We had to ask for small bowls for soy sauce, and when we requested a dessert menu to celebrate the birthday, we were told the kitchen had already closed. It would have been nice if our server had given us a heads up before the kitchen closed. The ambiance is cozy. It almost feels like dining in someone's house. They had Halloween decorations up and murals of historic Frederick painted on the walls. They also have a private parking lot, which made it convenient. Overall, food was good, but a little more attentiveness from the staff would've made the experience even better.

Today we tried Lazy Fish because it was recommended by David's colleague. We got the Pork Belly appetizer, Lazy Rainbow, Lazy Shack, and the Lazy Spaghetti which was on the Specials menu when we went. Pork Belly: Although the pork itself was fatty and tender, and a bigger piece than we expected, although waaaaay too much cabbage and a little too sweet from the pineapple for my taste. Lazy Shack and Lazy Rainbow: LOVED these rolls! We were actually impressed by how fresh the fish was?? And the amount and texture of the rice was on point. Multiple tables next to us got the Lazy Rainbow so it seems like a popular one to get. We also appreciated the real crab that they used (although I may have gotten the smallest piece of shell in my Lazy Shack, but it was so good I didn't even care). Lazy Spaghetti: Basically like a massamun beef curry and spaghetti fusion. On the tad spicy side for me. Was really creamy and the sauce to spaghetti ratio was a little heavy (on the sauce side) that I wish there was more spaghetti to soak it up. Definitely would stick to the sushi here (although I'm a sucker for a sushi + hot dish combo). Would consider coming back to try some of their nigiris next time!

Since we were in the company of a bunch of preteens, ice tea and mango bubble thingies were enjoyed by all. Apps were good, with serving sizes plentiful. We ordered fried calamari (served in stick form, not rings; weird but tasty), really nice tempura, and Ying Yang shrimp (the spicy may sauce was OK, but the wasabi sauce was killer!). For mains we focused on: sushi. Lots and lots of sushi. The rolled sushi menu is very long; the sushi (actually nigiri) and sashimi menu not so much. Nothing on the menu described how big the portions were so the 'dults each ordered a several different selections, both rolls and sushi.
