The server was great and attentive. Everything came out fast, but fresh. The seafood chowder is one of the best I ever had. Full of seafood, so creamy with great Cajun seasoning, not too spicy. This was a huge portion. The Black Cat Bayou was AMAZING! The fish was cooked to perfection. There is a creamy Cajun sauce and it is full of seafood. It was suppose to also have mushrooms, but they were out. I did have to ask for more sauce, but they got it for me. This dish seemed small for the price and only comes with the rice it sits on. Overall I thought this was a good place and if I could give 3.5 stars, I think It leans that direction. I sat at the bar, it was a weeknight, and The restaurant was moderately busy. It took a few moments to grab my drink order, but the bartender was definitely running around. I joked about it being a busy weeknight and she looked a little impatient that I was not getting to my drink order. Wasn't the greatest first impression. The awkwardness continued as I then was made party to a conversation between the bartender and other waitstaff complaining about another waitress and they were quibbling over each other's attitude. Looking past those things, I ordered the Nola nachos based on the high reviews from other yelpers. Upon arrival, they looked pretty darn good. The remoulade sauce was a nice touch to the cheese and all of the seafood and sausage had great flavor. The only complaint I have is that it seemed all of the toppings were just laid on top so once you got past that, at least half of the chips under that first layer were dry. It would be best if they could layer the toppings as they start constructing the pile of nachos. I probably wouldn't get that again and would opt for trying something different. Overall still a good find and worth trying some of the other items on the menu. read more

Stopped by for 1st time for dinner. What a great find large menu with so many seafood choices. Tiki Hubby and I share Fried Catfish over rice smothered in gumbo and cheese, this was enough fir both of us with a well made side salad. Catfish cooked to perfection. Mom's meal was equally delicious she replaced the fries with steam vegetables with no fuss. Great server kept drinks full and started us with a sample of their gumbo. read more

Visiting from Maryland and stopped in here. The food was great! Everything we tried was well seasoned and hot. The manager let us taste the gumbo, which was absolutely delicious. I ate here with a co-worker on a work trip. It was really busy and lively. We were seated fairly quickly. It took our server a while to get to us but it was understandable since the restaurant was so busy. Once the server got to us, he was extremely friendly and courteous. He took care of our appetizer order promptly. We opted for the jalepeno scallops. They arrived promptly and were delicious! The main entrées we ordered arrived not long after we finished up the appetizers and they were also very good. The atmosphere of this place was pretty neat. I'm visiting from out of town and found this on Yelp. I first got it delivered and then ventured out to dine in. This place is AH-MAZING! Why? I'm glad you asked lol. First, they offer a chargrilled wedge Caesar. If you've never had your lettuce grilled, this is the place to try it. It's honestly a game changer and so flavorful. Not many restaurants do this, but they got it right. Next, the seafood here is very fresh and flavorful. This gives me creole, Louisiana vibes. Last, the vibes are laid back. I asked for a to go box immediately as well. The wait between finishing our food + boxing it and getting her attention to ask for our check was 15 minutes. The wait between getting it and her coming back for our card (dispute my husband trying to immediately hand it to her but she dropped the ticket and ran) was about 10. We love Lazy Gator. The entire menu is flavorful and creative; the restaurant is warm and inviting and the restrooms are always clean. The service is smooth and quick, and the food is always piping hot! We have yet to order something that hasn't been amazing. One of our favorite things is that the owner remembers us and he makes time to chit chat with patrons. You can see that he actually enjoys what he does, and he genuinely cares about their customers. We had a great conversation with him tonight. He's a kind human just for the sake of being kind and we appreciate the hell out of that! TRY THE UNLAWFUL WAFFLE. I thought for sure I had already written my review for this place but evidently not. I came in not too long after they first opened and got a Fried Gator Po Boy which was delicious and a watermelon Lazy Rita which I was hoping would be amazing but it was unimpressive. I meant to get back there especially seeing people post pictures of their delicious looking food on Facebook but somehow I just never did. Finally I saw a post about their Monday night special after 5:00 p.m. of a burger and fries for $6.99 and that motivated me to get back over there. I was highly impressed this time. The $3 Margarita was perfect. The burger was huge and cooked just right, medium rare at my request. I'm not a big fries fan but I was very hungry and didn't think to ask if they substituted anything but the fries were wonderful. I decided to get a side of scallops so I could try them out, 4 scallops for about $6. They were amazing and now I can't wait to go back to get a scallops dish next time. Varied experience here. Last year's dine in experience was good. This year, ordered in and it was absolutely horrible. They completely left off an item. Portions of pasta dish were as if it came off the child's menu (I've had the same in the restaurant and this was not what I experienced there). Shrimp were overcooked and cold. I absolutely LOVE this restaurant. The wait staff was awesome. We had Mia and she made menu suggestions and answered some questions I had about the local scene. She's the reason I got the Mahi Mahi sandwich, saying it was one of her favorites, and my boyfriend had the Southwest Alfredo pasta. I was surprised when the food came out so quickly! We also shared the gator bites, which I had never tried before - They were excellent. Both dishes were fresh and very tasty and had good sized portions! We both took home boxes but enjoyed our food later the same night. The environment was great for sitting and enjoying some drinks at the bar or having a quick bite with some friends. I went to the Lazy Gator for the first time, cannot tell you how impressed I was! From the friendliness and the efficiency of the bartender to the attentiveness of what appeared to be the owner/manager, everything was top-notch! I strongly recommend the blackened jalapeño scallops, one of the best appetizers I have ever had. The Black Cat Bayou was also outstanding, a blackened catfish fillet served over wild rice andtopped with an Alfredo sauce with shrimp and crawfish tails. Damn was that good! I got two words for you: NOLA NACHOS. You will notice there is not a picture of them, to which I will say, that is because they didn't last long enough. And trust me friend, I've eaten my fair share of em'! But enough about the nachos, let's get down to the business.... we came on a busy Friday night, smack dab in the middle of the rush and to my surprise we waited for maybe 15 minutes before being seated. Our waitress was quick and attentive in getting our drinks and taking our order. Did I mention that beers are SUPER cheap?! Like $2.50 cheap. Our entrees came out really quickly. We got the fried gator, a cheeseburger, fried shrimp and the crawfish poboy. All were hot, delicious and had generous portions. We never had to ask for anything. Everyone in our party left happy and full! A+ service. All this to say I would gladly recommend The Lazy Gator. With the combination of quick ticket times, attentive staff and yummy food, it is safe to say we will be back sooner than later. This may be our most frequented restaurant since moving to Amarillo from Carrollton in April 2022. Their catfish platter, fried or grilled ranks right up there with some of the family fish-fries I've been fortunate enough to attend. The service is always outstanding, and we haven't had a dish we didn't love. They make an outstanding cocktail, if you're of age, called the Painful Pina, and it is quite delicious as well, and can pack a punch. We have been here no less than a dozen times in less than 2 1/2 months in the area, and could, and have, eat/eaten there 2 or 3 times in a week. NOTE: As of this posting, Tuesdays is the Catfish special, and they don't short you on it, even though it's the special. HIGHLY recommend this place. read more

Staying the night on a road trip through town and my wife and I stopped in for dinner. The staff were all extremely friendly and the food was tasty (grilled catfish and alligator gumbo). When I called ahead to be placed on a list I was told that because of Covid we would have to wait in our car until a table was available which was great, safe news! Upon arriving there was a table available so we were seated right away. As a restaurant manager myself I can never "turn off" being aware of my surroundings and watching the staff do their jobs. The first thing that I noticed was that half of the young servers, hosts, and busboys had their noses out of their masks or their masks down all together. The manager (male) even engaged in an entire conversation with my wife and I with his gator around his neck. Not to mention the guests walking to and from the restrooms with no masks and the lack of a safe distance between tables. My server told me they had to remove three tables for Covid seating but there clearly was less than six feet between tables. The absence of and/or total neglect for the safe wearing of masks during these troubling times is unfortunate, as in any other time period this place would have a garnered a strong 4-5 star review. I'll give this place another shot, but not until after all is safe in the world. read more

Easy enough, no tomatoes was requested and fulfilled. However, what was not mentioned as a part of the dish were the mushrooms. YES, I picked them out and continued eating, as I am not allergic. Summary: The dish was light on portion and flavor. $6 extra for some extra chicken Unwelcome and undeclared presence of fungus in my dinner, was not okay. Nice atmosphere but when I opened the menu...wow! I felt like I was in New Orleans, one of my favorite cities! It for sure was difficult to decide what to get.
