I contacted the Lazy Gator to see of they would host a last minute 50th birthday party of 30 people. They said absolutely. I worked with Sunny and Chris. I worked with Sunny to book the place. Chris sat down with us to go over details, food, and bar items. Everything was absolutely amazing. They had the tables ready and reserved. We go out for oysters a few times a month and found this place minutes from the house. It looks like a house turned into a Resturant with a backyard and has a key west restaurant vibe to it. Like others have said you walk in and says wait to be seated but there is no one there. Once seated we both ordered a dozen oysters and the waitress came back and said there was only a dozen left. When I asked if this is normally the case she told me the others were still frozen. Glad we only got one order as they were the worst oysters I've ever had. Should have cancelled the first order when she said they were frozen but they were already sitting in front of us. Also ordered was either grouper or cod, seasoning was really good but it was way over cooked. Very disappointed because this place is only a few minutes from the house but the food was very sub par. Omg what took us so long, this place is great. We started off with the best wait staff person, can't say waitress or waitress any longer, we had Emilia, she was fantastic. We asked about the stuffed oysters, they were highly recommended, and they were wonderful, followed by the conch fritters, and again much better than expected. So not knowing what to get for a main course and looking at fantastic dessert menu, we elected to do appetizer again , the Calamari, so we could save some room for Sonnys Delight. Needless to say the Calamari was a big success, equal to the conch fritters. But the Sonnys Delight was beyond expectations and far better than the menu description. The only saving grace for this restaurant is to: 1) Improve on the consistency of the food they serve by serving the food hot and not like warm (gator bites, French fries, and Cajun pasta came out only warm or cold), deliver on the food they say they will serve (Cajun pasta tasted more like a Mac n Cheese with the sauce coming from a bottle--there was no taste of Cajun in the dish), and 2) Have someone dedicated to managing their Google reservation system--I had to call the restaurant to confirm my reservation made, but I was still skeptical, because the lady that said she would have me added to their reservation booking asked me the same questions three times and yet my name was not in their reservation book when my guests initially arrived). Our server was nice and tried her hardest to serve our large group, but it was embarrassing as the birthday girl to invite my guests only to have such a disappointing experience by almost everyone I invited. We also had almost an entire pitcher of water dumped on my birthday cards and the base of my board cupcakes. I am absolutely taken back by the food here. The restaurant looks like someone's home, and the food tastes homemade as well. It is made fresh to order and you can really taste it. And, I had to flag down the bartender when he brought the silver nearby as he seemed unaware where it was bound. The service to ight was surly and/or disinterested. No one asked if my food was okay after it was delivered. No check in whatsoever. I got no words when my tab was delivered. I wouldn't propose I was a problem to serve. I most assuredly was not worth anything beyond minimal effort. My purchase was met with total indifference crom the barkeep. I assume he wanted a tip!? The experience aligns with my post-pandemic opinion of customer service: it sucks. Few seem to care. They just think that you owe them your business. I don't. I don't write reviews very much but I felt compelled to write one. My family and I ate there yesterday which was Father's Day 2022. My mother ordered the grouper... Way too deep fried and it actually had a consistency of cod not grouper. Paying a lot of money for a very cheap piece of fish. They have a wonderful yellow rice... However, the rice felt like it was three days old. Flies everywhere. The server was awesome and she handled herself well but I paid $75 for four entrées and two of them were a bomb. Unfortunately it seems as though the shrimp that is grilled is way too salty. I've had that for the second time and the second time too salty. Best fish tacos I will say...
