The view from my parking spot, April 2023
    Jennifer B.

When you drive south from Brandon on I-75 and go over the Alafia River, you're dazzled by the tropical view-but it's over too quickly. At Jerry's you can sit and savor it-along with good food and great live music. All you have to do is get off at the Gibsonton/Riverview exit and go east a couple blocks, then hang a right. Yep, you'll think you're in the wrong place... but at the end of that residential street, right on the water, sits Jerry's Dockside. It's not big, but it's clearly beloved by the locals. There were a lot of regulars when we were there on a Saturday evening in April 2023, and they made us feel right at home. I think that's a Jerry's specialty. So go ahead, grab a table and a cold one and settle in... laid back is on the menu. So are some great burgers, tacos and a yummy blackened grouper sandwich. There's a tasty flatbread, too... and if I remember correctly, salads, as well. We were a big group out on the patio, but our server was so patient and fun. I wish I'd gotten her name-she took such good care of us. This is a comfy, casual place-right next to the boat club. There's some seating inside along with high tops on the patio and picnic tables elsewhere outside. It's the kind of place you can go to without makeup on a warm sunny evening and let your cares just float away. It's not fancy but you don't want it to be. It's warm, friendly and affordable. I'm so glad a friend suggested it! Parking is the only challenge... there are a few places outside and there's some street parking. Get there early or be prepared to circle a bit. problem. Oh! Just beer, wine and wine-based cocktails, when it comes to adult beverages-but everyone can drink in the view. Cheers to Jerry's.

We had lunch here last September, it was average. So is today: on the water, good service, average food, clean single booth bathroom, average food with big portion.  My Pinot Grigio is served in a glass tumbler, thank you.

Atmosphere - Very nice. Formerly AJ's (same owner, just changed the name), the restaurant has gone through a revision that was prompted by the restaurant's participation in the TV show, Bar Rescue. There are significant improvements to the bar area, as well as upgraded tables and umbrellas in the seating area on the lower level and along the water. This is a very comfortable, fun atmosphere. The owner took time to stop at our table to ask if we were satisfied with the service and food. He is a very nice and genuine person and I wish him and his staff success. Food - Very Good. The new menu is only a few weeks old and is very limited. I had the Italian Combo sandwich and it was absolutely excellent! The sandwich is big and the bread was fresh (a huge factor for me in evaluating a sandwich) and the flavor great! Having dined here many times in the past, I was sad to learn that the pulled pork sandwich was not on the menu as it was my favorite item on the menu. However, Jerry did say that they are planning to expand the menu and will likely add the pulled pork sandwich. Service - Excellent! Many of the servers pre-date the change in ownership that occurred a few years ago and for good reason. Having dined here many times, I have never had a disappointing experience with service. Wisely, the owner has retained the entire team following the experience with Bar Rescue. Although the servers have always been friendly and attentive, I noticed that there was a new element of a professional touch and approach in their interaction with customers that enhances the experience. Overall Value - Very Good. The restaurant checks all of the boxes, Atmosphere, Food, Service and Prices. Once the menu is expanded, rating could easily rise to 5 Stars

We have been coming to AJ's for years, and when we arrived today, we learned that there had been a renovation and it was now named Jerry's Dockside. There were some noticeable changes, such as the tables near the docks, along with the umbrellas, and the bar area looked nicer. The one noticeable difference is the food menu. It is much smaller, and the pulled pork sandwich which was our favorite, was GONE!!!!! Our server was very friendly, and informative, but never really checked on us and was hard to find when we wanted our check. Hoping they add to the menu so that we can continue to enjoy lunches here on the water.

Great PIT STOP off of Highway 75. Earlier today, driving from Naples to The Villages, we decided to stop at this place because it was easy to exit Hwy 75 and also be able to sit outside by water and boats. This combo of waters edge, boats, fresh air and sunshine while eating is WAY better than trying to find a restaurant in a strip mall, drive thru, fast food or big chain restaurant. This restaurant was the highlight of our day and the sandwiches were delicious ! Much much better than the fancy restaurant that we all went to later today tonight! Seriously ! ! The only thing left for the owner to do is to get a liquor license. Then it will be perfect.

This is the second time we've stopped to eat here on our way north out of Florida. Great dockside views and seating. The food and drinks are good. My husband got the Dockside Cuban and I got the Blackened Grouper sandwich...both delicious. The coleslaw and potato salad were delicious too. The staff is friendly and attentive. We will definitely stop back next time we're passing through!

Ambience and local live music is always nice at this Bar Rescue dockside restaurant. Servers are very nice and work very hard. Not much turnover in staff, which is a good sign that Jerry takes good care of wait staff. Limited menu is decent with only a couple new items added to the menu. I'm not sure that enhanced the offerings much. I'm still missing French fries, which I think would be a game changer!

The patio and view are amazing! The service is friendly. The burgers are tasty but a little smaller than the buns. The buns were fresh but needed toasting. The drinks were fantastic! Location and service is a four and foods are a three.

The plate is a really nice portion, with two pieces of fish. I've gotten used to seasoned fried fish, so for me it was a little bland on its own. However, the firm flakes of the fish really show how fresh it is, and I loved that. The tartar sauce is creamy with a delightful lemon taste to it. The fries were crispy, hot, and very well seasoned. The highlight, surprisingly, was the coleslaw. The seasoning and the flavor were absolutely delicious. It brings a mellow flavor to the dish -- not tart, just soft and mild, the kind of thing that cuts right through the richness of the fried food and balances the plate. Happy hour starting at 11am on weekdays is a great deal. During my visit, the place wasn't busy, and sitting at the bar just felt very chill and relaxing. The playlist fit the vibe very well, too! I appreciated Evan, the bartender, checking in several times during my lunch. I read through the menu, and based on my experience with the fish and chips, I'm really excited to come back and try many more dishes.

The menus were kind of old and a little soiled so if the food is good here I will never know because I wouldn't touch the menus. Sat at the bar and asked for the name of a beer they had on tap. She gave me a generic answer and it turns out she was right. It was just called Channelside IPA. Still the interaction wasn't very pleasant and in fact was a little awkward. Definitely didn't feel welcome. Also didn't help that I am naturally a smart Alec. All I know is we definitely didn't click. I settled in on a Smithwicks Red Ale. Finished my beer and promptly left. The experience was Meh. The beer was good though.
