We went here for date night and I'll start with the fact that this is a very nice space. We were taken to the rooftop and it did not disappoint. Very nice open space with lots of seating. There was a dj and the music level was perfect. The GM was really welcoming and he sat us at a nice table for 2. The bartender finally came and took our order after a little while but we were still excited to taste the food. We had the $4 pearl shots (not sure the exact name lol) they were really good. I ordered the Thai wings and collard greens dip. Both were just okay. My husband ordered the smothered turkey wings that came with beans and rice. My food was just okay. I wasn't crazy about either. My husband enjoyed his turkey wings. I thought for $27 you should get at least 2 but they only give you one and offer another do $7. That was a bit much in my opinion. Any add on sides are $7. In my opinion a bit pricey but they do have HH Freon 3-6 so maybe that's a good time to come and try a couple more appetizers. I don't get the advertised $15 seafood boil because I didn't feel it was worth me getting my hands dirty for one crab cluster and 5 shrimp. As far as parking, we arrived at 6pm so there was plenty of parking available. I'm pretty sure later in the evening is when it fills up and people find it more difficult to park but they do offer valet for $10. Overall, it was just okay. Last Saturday my friends and I had our ladies night at Mangos Southern and it was absolutely amazing. From the moment we walked in we were captivated by the coziness and the warmth of the place. We went upstairs and were seated at the rooftop. They had a live DJ hitting us with all the songs and we had to dance when he played a "konpa" for us. The service was excellent, one of the owners even stopped at our table to check on us. Evertthing from the appetizers to entrées were flavorful. Our drinks were also delicious. In Tampa for a family reunion and was looking for a restaurant with an ambiance we could relate to and came across Mangos Southern Kitchen. On arrival we noticed the crowded parking lot(glad they had valet $10) and assumed the food had to be good. It was Sunday, and we were not aware the place closed early and reservations were best. We had an hr wait, which was fine. As we walked in there was live entertainment on the bottom floor and a dj on the rooftop. This was my kinda place. The staff were nice and the food was amazing. I got the catfish, mac and cheese and collards. Omg and the cornbread, was sweet goodness from heaven. Every plate I saw looked fabulous, large portions. I would comeback again and again and again. My friend recommended we visit Mangos for their brunch. He'd heard about it and wanted to check it out. I'm glad we did because the food was so good and the service was amazing as well. Paige was our server and was very sweet and welcoming. She greeted us and offered to go over the menu. She checked in on us periodically and was very pleasant to deal with. Parking wasn't horrible. I ended up street parking but they also offer valet for $10. In my opinion that was unnecessary but I liked that they had the option. The space itself is a bit tight but they do also have an upstairs space. Didn't get to check it out as we were seated downstairs but it sounded like a vibe. Great food! Great DJ on Saturday! The food service for a bigger party (10) was a little slow. They brought out the first half of our parties food and still had to wait 30 mins for rest of our party. Then most of our parties order sides were wrong and one person in our party didn't receive their food until all of us had practically finished. Once seated I ordered a pineapple lemonade, which was too sweet for my liking so the bartender offered to water it down for me. I then ordered the creole shrimp and Gouda grits as my entree. Shortly after ordering my dish came out hot but very poorly plated (see photos). I quickly realized the few shrimp in the dish were sautéed and not fried and I informed the waitress that I wanted fried shrimp. She took the plate to the back and returned stating that unfortunately they can't fry shrimp for this dish. Although, the menu says grilled or fried. I said "ok" and decided to give it a try. Nice spot with great vibes. There's dining downstairs, upstairs bar area, and upstairs patio. My party sat upstairs with the bartender as our server. The bartender was nice and informative but a little busy, which led to a little slower service. The Soul Rolls were surprisingly really good. The Lemon Pepper Shrimp was a great pick. The shrimp were huge, hot out of the fryer, and flavorful. However, the BBQ Jerk Chicken was a miss. The portion size was good but the chicken wasn't grilled or tender. I'm guessing it was baked. I really wanted to love Mangoes Southern Kitchen & Bar based on the reviews and the overall vibe presented in those reviews, but unfortunately my experience didn't match the hype at all. We had a 3:00 PM reservation and weren't seated until 3:25 PM. After being seated, we didn't receive water until 3:49 PM, which already set a strange tone. While we were waiting, multiple tables around us were seated and served food, including a table that arrived after us. By 4:22 PM, we still had no food. It didn't arrive until 4:32 PM. When the food finally came out, it was incorrectly distributed between our group. Sides were missing, one person appeared to have someone else's side, and one entree (fried whole snapper) was undercooked. The mac & cheese tasted like mustard mixed with plain macaroni, which was very disappointing. The only consistently good part of the experience was the drinks. Our waiter genuinely tried to make up for what was happening, and I appreciated his effort. He even mentioned that he wasn't originally supposed to be our server, which makes me think there were staffing or management issues going on, but that's just an assumption. What stood out the most was the overall energy. From the moment we walked in, the hostess didn't smile and looked at us like "why are you here?" We felt ignored for a long stretch of time while others were clearly being taken care of, which was confusing and uncomfortable. Overall, it was a very weird and disappointing experience, especially given how many great reviews this place has. I have to say it's certainly a vibe when you walk into Mangos. It has a touch of modern decor with a southern flair of hospitality. There are two bars in the two story restaurant (one up and one downstairs). The music takes you back to the early 90s and 2000s where you reminisce with friends or your loved ones how long it's been since you heard said song. The staff was amazing from the moment we arrived. We didn't have reservations, but they were able to accommodate us quickly. So make sure to book that reservation! The food... delicious! I was so pleased to see the menu and ranges of dishes they offered. We had the Cornbread, Lamb chops, and the Soul Rolls. Cons: Parking is very limited in prime operating hours. There were about two handicap parking spots. I saw people walking over, so I think there's overflow somewhere but definitely not across the street at the photography place - they have tows signs for mango customers Size is a bit small, maybe remove two table settings would be great for downstairs. It's uncomfortable when servers are accidentally bumping into you. The servers don't clean you tables, so luckily it was a 3 person party at a 4 top, we were able to set are dishes there. I asked one person to remove our first set, which he kindly did but you can tell it probably wasn't his job. PROS: Food is delicious. Small menu, so it's not too overwhelming to chose from. Our party ordered: Catfish, cabbage, mac and cheese; fried whole snapper, oxtails, soul rolls, and salmon bites Salmon bites are a must try. perfectly seasoned, it didn't need the sauce that was served on the side (which reminded me of a copycat chick-fil-a sauce) Catfish is a huge crispy filet, love that and they have texas pete hot sauce. A lot of the dishes are huge in portion. Soul rolls were good. The yams sweetened it up, but the sauce adds back the savory. The inside is so cute. I would love to try brunch and even sit upstairs on the patio one day. There was a DJ as well. Drinks were decent. My parents tried the Peach Bourbon like drink and some other drink, they felt like they were missing a component but still overall good. Like the dip, it arrived too hot to enjoy immediately. Once cooled, the seafood itself was cooked beautifully, but the sauce felt like it was missing something perhaps some vegetables like spinach, asparagus, sun-dried tomatoes, or mushrooms to give it more depth. Having said all that, following is why I gave a low rating; I placed 3 different orders and was disappointed three different times. Second, though they had a limited menu, I got there at 7pm only to find out they were out of the rasta pasta, which I really wanted. So I asked for the cajun pasta. Third, 30 minutes after putting in my order for the cajun pasta I was informed they were out of that! So I ended up with the delicious wings, LOL. And please know you have to pay $10 for parking. I tried this restaurant for the first time last weekend with a friend as we were celebrating the end of another great year. We do a tradition where we go to a dinner at the end of every year and recap. We heard a lot of great things about Mangos and wanted to give it a try. The food was great! This restaurant gets three stars for the following reasons- upon arrival, the parking lot is very tricky to navigate as in there are very few spaces. When I called the restaurant to ask about additional parking, I was immediately met with a message that said unfortunately they have no additional parking so I had to park in a nearby neighborhood and walk up to the restaurant. When I walked into the restaurant, the atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The hosts were great and lead us to the rooftop area which included a heater and an amazing DJ that came later in the evening. Our waitress Britney, was amazing. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and told us about some of the restaurant favorites. We ordered the soul rolls, the barbecue jerk, chicken, and the Rasta pasta with oxtails. We also ordered cocktails that were absolutely amazing.... Hot Steppa and the Rum Punch. The cornbread that comes to the table was stellar... 10 out of 10! About an hour and 50 minutes into our meal the waitress let us know that there was a two hour time limit on the table. The food took quite a bit and so if you're looking for a place to go with your friends, have a couple drinks, talking and laughing this is not the place because two hours goes by really quickly. There was no time left to order dessert or any additional drinks. Now, to be fair, she did give us extra time at our table, but as we dine out a lot and look for places where we can stay a while...
