They mentioned they had a military discount- for a $4000 plus bill I think it was maybe $100- so around 2%. The repair seemed ok-hood and driver front damage. Weeks later, I realized they never installed nor returned the sticker to hold the hood up. Again, I was going through chemotherapy so I was not checking and my son never mentioned anything. Today, months later, I was going to add some hood hydraulic struts as the only way to keep the hood open safely is with someone holding it. To install the struts, you have to remove two bolts that hold the hood to the hinge and the secure the strut hardware. Both bolts sheared when I went to remove them with a regular 1/2 drive ratchet- remember I am recovering from chemo and radiation so I probably have the strength of a 14 year old right now. The hood would have been removed and repaired and then reinstalled with the bolting and I assume tightened with an impact to the point where they can never be used again. This is a 12 mm ( about 1/2 inch head) and was way overtorqued to the point that they both sheared from normal hand removal. I now have to extract the two broken bolts before I can continue. The videos for the hydraulic struts demonstrate that they can be installed in minutes. I am going to have to extract two bolts with someone holding the hood- what a sh*tshow. Also, my son's car had some normal scratches that could have been easily buffed out. They did not buff these out. I have never seen that before from an auto body shop. Overall, I would say the repair was below average especially since they kept the hood support. I would not recommend this place.

All this without sacrificing the integrity of the car, though. I brought my 2009 Chevy Malibu in for an estimate because I wanted the frame addressed, the windshield repaired/replaced as appropriate, and the affected area repainted. J Smitty Automotive provided a preliminary estimate with a Grand Total of $3,985.17. For context, I purchased this vehicle for approximately $6,000, so being quoted nearly $4,000 for the repair was not reasonable to me. What left the interaction with a bad impression was that there was no attempt to recommend a more cost-effective path forward or explain alternatives - only a very high estimate. I then obtained another written estimate elsewhere for the same problem area ("Front Windshield and Frame") totaling $375.00, which I found far more reasonable. And they were great at dealing with my insurance company and helping things to move smoothly and quickly after an accident.
