This place was wonderful! Tucked away in an apartment building it doesn't seem like much from the outside. However, inside its lovely. The decor was funky and lively. The view overlooking the city was so beautiful! Our server Alex was most helpful in going over the menu and very patient as we took our time enjoying cocktails and friends. Not sure why this place isn't rated higher because our visit was simply amazing in every detail! Service was attentive and exceptional. Timing of courses was perfect. The drinks were superb (I'm talking about you Mixed Berry Lemon cocktail!) and the food was exquisite. We had the French onion soup, lobster Mac and cheese and the build your own beef course was spot on with the help of our great sever Braedyn. t's a beautiful location with a great patio for outside dining overlooking the city. Too bad I can't give minus stars. There is nothing positive about the food. If you are considering eating here, then do yourself a favor, go to a grocery store and buy a power bar. The food is very sad, I ordered the beef burger, no bun, medium rare with the au poivre sauce. The beef burger was totally over cooked, crusted on the outside, and completely devoid of any natural juice. Just a dried out hockey puck. This is the first time in years I have considered sending a meal back. The sauce maybe had a dozen peppercorns in it and very little taste. The fries were limp and greasy. My husband and I went to this restaurant for our anniversary on 9/22. Reservations were mad 1and 1/2 weeks in advance and the restaurant sent a confirmation text the day before and I confirmed. We got there and waited a good five minutes before being acknowledged. The hostess finally came out and we gave our name and time of reservation. She looked at her book, shook her head and said no reservation, and not in a nice manner. We told her the reservation was confirmed by text and she kept shaking her head no. Very nastily she tells us she has one table left she thinks she can give us, like she is doing us a favor. We said goodbye and left. In a good restaurant, the hostess would not say, you don't have a reservation, especially if there WAS an available table. We were prepared to spend $300.00 or more! NEVER will eat there or recommend to my out of town clients who are always asking for a good restaurant when they come to town. I will stick with Jeff Ruby's! They KNOW how to treat patrons! I really struggle with the rating and commentary on last night's meal at Le Bar. The best way I can describe it today is "fine/fair" to "good". Unfortunately we were a bit disappointed from the minute we walked in. We had a 6:30 OpenTable reservation that we were about 10 minutes early for. The place wasn't full by any means and there were plenty of open tables. We walked for about a half step and they sat us at the table basically right in front of the TV. In the bar. Now had we not made a reservation, or if we were rudely late, or if we weren't OpenTable VIPs (come on people you have to know we review things and eat out A LOT) then maybe this wouldn't have seemed like an issue. But seeing all of these other tables with more comfortable looking chairs in the Dining Room, this left a bad first impression. Moving on we are greeted by a very nice waitress. Unfortunately the cocktail I picked they are no longer serving because they couldn't get it "right". Ok, so surely you have had plenty of trying things and even a soft open or two, so why is it still printed on your menu?? Luckily she vouched for the runner up I had stored in my head. I ordered the Sacred Cow - this was very good, basically a smooth, balanced Manhattan and quite large for cocktail standards. While ordering the drinks we mentioned we knew we wanted to start with the Beef Tartare. Unfortunately she said she could not put this in until the rest of the order was ready. The Chef wants to know the whole order at once and the server will course it out. Now, that sounds nice and all. But if I am trying to order an add on (bigger bill people), then you should probably make it work. Let's also remember that we are at the supposed more casual and approachable concept of the restaurants, not anywhere extremely fancy! We continue to work on the menu and what to order. We have a pretty long list and ask for the server's help in narrowing to the proper amount to order. We order the beef tartare, the beef tongue french dip and then decide on two of the "plates". The beef to go with the standard and she thought the fish would be a good addition. Honestly, none of the entrees stood out to us and we were about to get one beef and one wagyu, but were basically told they are too similar. We were going to do a compare and contrast between the two. She asked if the chef's recommended cooking was okay and we agreed. The great - beef tartare and beef tongue dip. Then the main dishes arrived. Just as you literally picture, a patty of meat next to potatoes (we had done one of each mashed/fries). The fish - fishy. The meat - fine but RARE. There was no medium rare about either of the patties. I like raw beef in my tartare, but not in something in a patty form with a tad too much gristle in it. Unfortunately we couldn't finish either of these. Fries - I mean they are duck fat fries, pretty hard to go wrong there. The whipped potatoes - look and taste the same as any other thing whipped up. All in all, a bit hard to describe the overall experience. If we had been sat in the dining room and if our patties were cooked a little more I could give them two thumbs up. In the meantime, until an occasion arises, I will probably pass. read more

Jean-Robert has closed Table and come here to his Walnut Hills restaurant, where he has brought much of the magic that made Table so wonderful. The food is just what you would have had at Table, and there are always incredible specials to try. The wine list is perfect and shows a lot of care was taken in choosing. The dessert is superb, his pastry chef knows what they are doing. The staff is mostly from Table now, and that has been a huge improvement. They are present without being overbearing. It's a beautiful space with a great view of the river. Highly recommended. read more

It was just okay...I wanted it to be better, but it just wasn't. We started with the Beef Tongue and if you go, do NOT miss this one: delicious! We also had the artichokes which my husband loved, but I just thought were okay. When we went to order our entrees they were out of the two we wanted: the steak and the cornish hen. My husband opted for the Wagyu patty with blue cheese and a portobello and I settled for the duck confit. Both were good, but husband said his would have been better on a bun and my veggies were underwhelming, but the duck was perfectly cooked. We thought it was odd that they were out of two of the entrees at 7:00 on Valentines Day, but it got worse because by the time the couple next to us ordered (around 7:30) they were out of all entrees except the liver! It was Valentine's Day...did someone forget to go to the grocery store!? We started our meal with cocktails, which were delicious and then decided to order a bottle of wine. They were out of the first bottle we ordered so we decided on another and they were out of that too! We opted to stick with cocktails, but were disappointed not to be able to enjoy a glass of wine with dinner. For dessert we opted for the one cup cake; which was adorable, but nothing to write home about. I wanted so much to love this restaurant because we love Jean Robert's Table, but our visit was very disappointing. I would have liked to have been able to order the entree and wine I wanted; I was very confused as to how they were out of so much of their menu on Valentine's Day. Went up for a date night with my boyfriend, and boy was I glad! Even though it was a Saturday night, it wasn't busy (was also 9 or so) and it was a beautiful night to be able to sit out on the patio. We ordered the meat and cheese plate and also the french dip beef tongue. The meat and cheese plate is fantastic, the selections were diverse but complimented each other well. The beef tongue was....decadent. It wasn't chewy at all, it was prepared wonderfully. Be prepared it's a heavier dish but oh so good. We both ordered burgers, I picked out the wagyu with onions, tomato, and truffle butter. I was happy I put the tomato on it to blend and break up the lush flavors. The truffle butter was fantastic, I love love love truffles, and it is a hefty chunk of butter. My boyfriend ordered the bison with wine sauce, an egg, and I don't remember the other topping. He also ordered the mash potatoes instead of the fries. I would recommend the frites over the mash. I also preferred my burger to his lol. They had a diverse selection of desserts as well, but we were so stuff from our meal we couldn't fit in another round of food. P.S. The burgers don't come with a bun. They don't need one. read more

I love everything jean Robert does but try as I might I can't love this place. It's nearby so I go every couple of months, and each time it feels like the JV squad is in charge. Service is awkward, this last visit it was rushed and incredibly amateurish. I felt like I was dealing with a teenager while trying to communicate with he server who rushed us through the beginning of our meal. So much that our first course arrived before our cocktails. Same thing happened with our wine. I had 1/2 my meal eaten when I had to remind him of he wine i had ordered. He was nice at least. He just couldn't make us feel relaxed. Meal was not great. Overcooked salmon, tasteless steak. I think jean Robert should soend a bit more time at this place, he could make it special like his other places. read more

Tried this place for New Years Eve. They had a limited menu, so I would really like to come back and see what all they offer, and then make up my mind as to what I really think. As far as this particular visit-which was my first-the salmon dish with the truffle beurre blanc sauce was very tasty...maybe not "I can't wait to come back asap" tasty, but tasty nonetheless. The service was fantastic, for our party of 8. I think I'll come back when it's warmer, and sit on their patio with the amazing view and try some other items. I want to love this place. It's friendly to my keto diet, and it has the loveliest view of the city from the patio in the summer. But I've been 3 times in the last 6 months and something is just off with the kitchen. The concept involves choosing your meat for a burger (served bunless), and then choosing a topping, cheese and sauce. I always order the waygu patty, which is tasty, witb various toppings and a sauce. The last few times, they have been unable to make a good recommendation on combinations. But the biggest issue on my last visit is that the "bearnaise sauce" they served wasn't bearnaise, it was hollandaise. There was no tarragon flavor whatsoever. Thinking they made a simple mistake on which sauce was sent out, I pointed it out and asked our server for bearnaise instead and they brought me the same thing with more acid added. The server was apologetic and a complete professional, taking some off our bill. He mentioned that the kitchen staff was new. This is a Jean-Robert restaurant, so nailing a classic French sauce like bearnaise is table stakes, and I'm pretty disappointed. read more

I had an amazing dinner here with my boyfriend's family! This place is essentially a fancy burger place. You pick the type of meat you want your burger patty to be made with along with cheese, toppings, sauce/glaze, and a side. There is no bun for the burger. The portion sizes are perfect. We all LOVED our meals! They also have great signature and seasonal cocktails. The menu can be a little challenging because many items are French, but our waitress described everything clearly to us. read more

Every city has a chef that can get away with damn near anything. Cincinnati's such chef is "Jean Robert" and of course, it's not pronounced like it looks like it is. What does Jean Robert get away with at this establishment? Oh, about an hour wait time, from sit-down, to being served. $50.00 for two burger patties and some potatoes, with expensive toppings, such as $3.00 for a slice of tomato, and $4.00 for a slice of Brie. Of course, the waiter had this big long spiel about how the fancy beef is massaged every day. Is this before or after they killed it? I forgot to ask that. So, they offer beef, bison, lamb and wagyu. Most wagyu and kobe served in the United States is completely fake, just so you know. I ordered lamb. It tasted like beef. Mind you, it was delicious. But, holy cow, it was a little presumptuous. Folks, it's beef, and lamb. The potatoes are all just potatoes and cut differently depending on how you order it. I strongly recommend the Penn & Teller episode of "BS" whose episode title is "The Best." It exposes the vast amount of BS involved in this industry. But, it was the best damn $50.00 two orders of burger patty and potatoes that me and my girlfriend had eaten. I guarantee you it was better than that $5.00 shake that John Travolta tasted. read more

Just as with Jean Robert's Table, I can't comprehend what the great fascination is with this place. Their "specialty" is boeuf, which in their interpretation comes out as ground meat. Honestly, I could make just as good ground meat from Kroger with the assistance of a George Foreman grill. You literally have to douse it with butter, sauce, and/or copious amounts of cheese to make it presentable. It didn't help matters that my friend started getting sick to his stomach the second we left. The only highlight was the excellent wait staff. I went a few days after their official opening, and our waitress could not have been more friendly. If only as much attention was paid to the food as it was to hiring good employees. This place can be slightly tricky to find. It's within the Edgecliff condos in East Walnut Hills. So if your GPS is guiding you there, look for the condos as your landmark. However, do yourself a favor and navigate yourself to a different restaurant. Your stomach will thank you. read more

I also struggled with writing this review because whatever strength there is in the quality of the food was overwhelmed by the terrible service. We ate, (I wish I could say dined), on a Friday night with 7:30 reservations. We were greeted by a hostess who could not find our reservation but with "some assistance" located it. We were seated at a nice table and ordered cocktails...which were excellent. The waitress kept asking us if we wanted to order and we let her know we wanted to relax and take our time. We were all very excited about dining here as we have loved all of Jean Robert's restaurants. We ordered our appetizers and dinner . The appetizers came out. They too were excellent. The three of us has the salmon tartare, the crab cakes and the artichoke hearts. This, however, is where things went down hill. We were not finished with our appetizers when our main meal came out. We pointed this out to the "runner" and she said they would bring them back to warm. This was not ideal but there was nothing else to do. We literally rushed our appetizers and no sooner did the fork hit the plate and they were scooped up and our meals placed in front of us. Two of the three meals were tepid in temperature. We debated sending them back to "be warmed" but that would leave one person at our table to either wait for us and stare at their meal until it too was cold or eat in front of us (she had the lobster mac and cheese which is served in a crock with a lid explaining while her meal was not cold). We opted to keep our meals but the temperature greatly took away from the taste.Our waitress assured us they would "arrange something" to make up for being rushed and lukewarm meals. From this point on, our waitress went MIA. We did not return to the table until we flagged her down for dessert. When the bill came, no "arrangements" had been made and we let it go. Honestly, I was still angry about being rushed and being served "warmed over" meals. However, we asked if the bill could be split 2/3 rds, 1/3 and she said no problem. It apparently was a problem as it took three attempts to do it. I will try the restaurant again and have to attribute this poor experience to an inexperienced staff. However, I will not ever sit at the same waitress's table! read more

I'm a diner that enjoys fine dining as much as a simply prepared pizza, salad or well made sandwich. Living in the neighborhood and wanting to try something new, we decided to check it out on Thursday, March 26. We walked into Le bar a Boeuf around 6:45 PM with no reservation. They were very busy, but were able to accommodate our party of 2. All of the staff we encountered were polite, friendly and professional. We ordered the beef tartare, 2 wagyu burgers with various toppings, (all toppings are a la carte, none are included in cost of burger). What we were offered with the burger was the choice of French Fries or mashed potatoes. We both chose French fries...which sadly became the most flavorful menu item that evening. We ended with a shared Pot de Creme. The beef tartare was a nicely sized portion for 2, and was served with two delicious deviled eggs. Unfortunately the tartare lacked seasoning and acid in a very disappointing and surprising way...it had virtually no flavor. (Oddly enough - the deviled eggs that were served on top were seasoned beautifully). It was the least interesting beef tartare I've ever had, whether in the States, France, Spain, or Japan, etc. The chef clearly hadn't tasted the product that evening. Our wagyu burgers were okay, but not special. The flavor and tenderness that I am accustomed to based on other Wagyu burgers I've enjoyed elsewhere were seriously lacking here. Our medium rare burgers both came out medium to medium well, and my particular toppings of goat cheese, tomato and mushroom sauce - while flavorful in of themselves - masked the underwhelming wagyu prep, as opposed to elevating it. The French fries, however, were great. As every topping for the $15 wagyu burger is an up charge, after adding $4 for mushroom sauce, $4 for goat cheese and $3 for a slice of marinated tomato...the cost of this wagyu burger and fries climbed to $26. I've enjoyed mouthwatering gourmet burgers at this pricing point before that I would be happy to go for again...but these fell seriously below the mark. Sadly a Red Robin or Wendy's burger has much more flavor. Sorry...don't wish to be mean...that was my honest reaction to a well intentioned product and service. The Pot de Creme tasted like a bland, thick pudding, also lacking the depth of chocolatey and creamy goodness one expects in a traditional prep. Had we dined at a more casual establishment, I would have not felt as judgemental. But for this Chef and this pricing point - our $120 experiece (including alcohol) fell well below the mark. Staff were friendly and worked hard zipping around the restaurant all eve, and the manager was nice enough to visit briefly and thank us for coming. Sadly, for the concept and the pricing point, this famous chef has a Lot of work to do yet with his kitchen team...or the prices need to be seriosuly reworked to reflect the quality of the product that was served last night. I may try it again in six months or so - for now, I can't recommend it before they iron out their culinary issues. read more

Got a Tuesday 6pm reservation ( open table rservations are available at 5:30,6, and 6:30, after tat call to be on waitlst- nice bar area to wait) . We were welcomed and seated in the center of the restaurant. Already the place was buzzing and, yes, it did get loud but not too loud to talk or hear and one of us is older with a bit of hearing loss. Our excellent waiter, Rene, gave a good brief explanation of the menu and even told me when I ordered an ap that made for a large dinner with my main course. The cocktails were good and quite strong, the food was all excellent and the manager came over for a nice chat and agreed when we told him they needed a nice sorbet or something light on the dessert menu. Ate here a week ago, and was uniformly unimpressed by the food and service. We had made reservations a month prior to the visit, and when we asked to be seated near the windows for the view, were haughtily rebuffed. Endive salad was tasteless and Wagyu burgers and au poivre sauce were unimpressive. The pot de creme was outstanding and since I'm a chocoholic, I'll probably return just because of this. Please come back Richard!! We love this place but Saturday night was a mess. We always eat at the bar. Saturday the bartender was gone from behind the bar running food more than she was there. There was a young lady also behind the bar who seemed too scared to talk to any customer (when she wasn't taking photos of a group of ladies which she did for at least 15 minutes). All of the waitstaff seemed to be 20 with little experience based on the questions they were asking the bartender. The worst was a disgruntled waitress who screamed about her customers to the poor overworked bartender on two different occasions for all of us to hear. Other customers were walking from their tables to the bar for drink service. What a mess! Food was still good, but the environment makes me not want to return. My wife and I had a great time at Le Bar a Boeuf a few nights ago. It's a special restaurant. Somewhat casual, somewhat fancy, a very pleasant vibe that is a bit different from most restaurants in Cincinnati. Kind of a combo between Cincinnati, California, and Europe. We ate outside on the back patio with a beautiful view. The service was friendly from the time we walked in, everyone was nice and accommodating. Water was promptly served and I asked our server what bottle of red wine she would recommend, and she did a great job with a Bordeaux that complimented my burger very well. The wine was brought to the table reasonably quickly. After that, the pace of service slowed somewhat, which might have had something to do with it being a busy night with perfect weather (it was also Saturday night), but that gave my wife and I some time to chit chat and drink the wine. We got the heirloom tomato salad to split as a starter, and it was great. My wife got salmon which she has had before and always enjoys, and I had a beef burger (ordered medium, and cooked appropriately) with toppings of matre d'hotel butter, Brie, and onion compote, on a bun (the bun is an extra 2 dollars or something, but very worth it, the bun is excellent). This burger was outstanding. For vegetables we had creamed spinach, and squash with browned butter. Yummy! We split the chocolate pots de creme for dessert. Bread was good, waygu burgers were great and choice of 5 sauces. Steak excellent and all the sides were lovely. And the pot de creme was as good as in Paris. Had the 20oz ribeye special, and it was literally the best I've ever had (and I've eaten a lot of ribeyes!). Cooked to medium rare perfection and melt in your mouth tender. The truffle lobster mac 'n cheese is sinfully delicious and great to share for an appetizer. Had the pot d'creme for dessert, and if you're a chocolate lover, you must treat yourself to this super rich mousse/pudding. Wished the menu was more diverse since it only had 5 entree options if I recall. Plan to spend about $50/person for a full course meal. Will definitely be back again! read more

I came here last month and enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The food wasn't quite memorable in my opinion, but I'm willing to try this place again. This place is quite easy to find, but you do have to know about it being there to truly find it. Parking is underneath the building. Decor is really nice. It wasn't too expensive and very close to where I live. I came here on a Tuesday or Wednesday night last month and only one other table was there. We went here last month for the first time . We tried to sit out on the patio.. great view.. but it was very windy and chilly that day so we moved inside. Our server Jordan was very prompt and helpful since we had never been before. I got the fish veloute soup.. AWESOME !! And lobster mac n cheese, delicious, very rich! Had to tk some of it home. My husband got the burger, which was good but a ltl overdone for his taste. Service was prompt, food came quickly, and lucky for me, our server Jordan mentioned that they put truffle oil on the mac n chs, which i am not crazy abt, and she was able to stop it from being put on mine. You know, I want to love this place. I love the whole concept of choosing your own meat, toppings, side dishes. We live in the neighborhood, and continue to come here, simply to support the place. That said, for the last four times we've dined here, the kitchen cannot prepare a simple hamburger to be medium cooked. Every single time I've ordered, the hamburger has arrived bloody rare. I send it back; it comes back less bloody rare. I'm really tempted to bring my own meat thermometer the next time and ask the chef to make sure the meat registers 155-160-degrees before sending it back. I know the French love their beef saignant (rare) or even bleu (ultra rare). But not me. Please, please get this right and use a meat thermometer. The servers could use a bit more training and polish as well. Stuffing the menus under his arm while taking orders is not good...forgetting to ask about drink orders half-way through the meal is not good... But you know, I'll continue to come here because I WANT this restaurant to succeed. read more
