Great ingredients, great drinks, great chef and great service... what else would you want? One of the best dinner places in Cincinnati right now

Michelle D.

Excellent! Our dinner here last night was fabulous. After ordering cocktails - we ordered the Escargot and Salmon Tartare for appetizers. While we sipped our cocktails we were brought some French bread and butter to nibble on. It was quite good, both fresh and warm. The appetizers were awesome! The escargot were done perfectly and the salmon tartare delicious with the lemon dressing. My husband ordered the Steak Frites and I ordered a special - a Filet. They were prepared exactly how we asked and were excellent. The service was great too!

Great food & service - last min bite with a friend who had never been to La Bar A Boeuf. We had the Pumpkin Ravioli, Crab Cakes & Salmon Appetizer then shared the Short Rib Entree. All delish! We ordered: Pumpkin Ravioli stuffed with ricotta, sautéed spinach, oyster mushroom & thyme brown butter Crab Cakes with cabbage slaw Salmon tartare with potato croquette, onion crème, radish, egg mimosa & frisée Short Ribs with parsnip purée, crimini mushroom, rapini, roasted carrot, caramelized shallot finished with red wine demi-glace - we specifically asked for the meat to be served separately

My Mr. was researching best French restaurants in the Cincinnati area. He wanted to take me out for early Valentines dinner. This came up and of course it's owned by Jean-Robert. So you know I was looking forward to that! It's located at the Edgecliff building. You can park in front of the building (which is limited) or in the garage. The view from the restaurant is amazing. Overlooking the hills and homes of Cincy. The inside is very cozy and inviting. Love the cow theme! My Mr made reservations on a Saturday night. We were seated right away. Top notch service! Our server was excellent! Very detailed and down to earth. Menu is small yet everything looks delish! So hard to choose! We ended up ordering: Escargot Bernard Baudry Chinon Cabernet Franc Petite filet mignon (chef's special) Halibut (chef's special) Parfait (chef's special) All were specials for the night. I liked that Jean-Robert based the meals with The Cincinnati Bengals theme. Since they are playing the Super Bowl this year. Plus it gives us a reason to come back and try the other items on the menu. Wow! So we started off with the escargot. I was blown away! The garlic and lemon breading was amazing! It had great flavor. It paired well with the wine! We got our meals and I am in loss for words! The best filet mignon I've ever had because the sauce and the veggies that went with it. Comfort food at its best. It was like eating homemade roast beef but better. I had a taste of my Mr's Halibut and it was flaky and just melted in my mouth. I was even scraping the sauce on my bread! It was that good. At the end I wanted more! So I saved room for dessert. The parfait was divine! Next time I want to try the crime brûlée! I want to add that our server was nice enough to take our picture outside overlooking the Cincy view. Thank you! Okay... we are coming back! Such a wonderful experience! Everything was perfect!

Definitely a delicious experience in a beautiful space. We came close to sunset and had a lovely view of the river. There were quite a number of specials that the server ably rattled off- perhaps too many as we had a hard time remembering what ingredients went in which dish. It was little details like this that made the experience more of a 4.5 star experience instead of a 5 star one. Our table began with a special starter of short ribs, local grits, and shaved black truffles. It was beautifully sauced and flavorful with balanced truffle flavor. The plate was fully cleaned! We also had lobster Mac and cheese to share. Done in French style with silky sauce, any of the Mac and cheese choices would make a great main choice. My dinner was also one of the evening's specials- venison! I don't often have a chance for venison and it didn't disappoint. It was perfectly cooked with a nice sear. Sauces poured at the table were a nice touch. For dessert we had both the creme brûlée and chocolate pot de creme. Creme brûlée was good but standard. That pot de creme though- rich and decadent, it was a great ending to the meal.

Great little touches, such as servers wearing darling white tops, place settings with vintage-like dishes, copper pots and sauce pans hanging along the kitchen wall. It manages to be both bustling and calming, charming and elevated. We only tried the cold salads, the carrot and the beet. Both were delicious. Drink menu has N/A options. The brioche with butter is divine. Also, they were very accommodating about our tight timing (many people were also theater goers), which was appreciated!

The service was good and our server was really friendly and personable but beyond disappointed in the ticket time of the kitchen to table. You order all at once and they space it out. It was just off the entire meal. We were at the Tableau course and immediately the Salades course was brought out and sat in the table before we even had a bite. Then nothing for such a long time. I think they forgot about us as the table next to us ordered their courses and got their food and were out the door before our Plats course was on the table. Additionally, I saw candles for bdays at other tables, but nothing special for our anniversary when our desserts were delivered. I feel like they also missed the mark here. We drive in about 2 hours specifically to dine here. Our visit time here about 2 years ago was amazing but this overall experience fell short of expectations. Ok back to the yummy food. We enjoyed the following... Bread: Pain Maison- fresh milk brioche, seasonal butter ($11) Tableau course: Oeufs Chimay - duxelles filled egg, garlic cream, comté, breadcrumb ($11) Salades course: Parisian Carrot - toasted hazelnut, parsley, cider vinaigrette ($12) Roasted Beets - crème fraiche, goat cheese, citrus, pistachio, horseradish ($15) Plats course: Raviole du Dauphiné - comté, ricotta, brown butter ($25) Icelandic Cod - toasted brioche, caviar beurre blanc, wilted spinach ($36) Dessert: Choux au Craquelin - profiteroles, vanilla ice cream, cocoa ($10) Mousse au Chocolat - meringue, feuilleté crunch ($11) It really is good food and a cute atmosphere. Something to try if you have not been or like French food, but after this experience I doubt I will be back with so many places to eat when you are from out of town.

My family shared a lot of our entrees, I feel their poultry and seafood are their best. The pork chop though tender, wasn't incredibly tasty. I have not tried a beef dish. The dessert was delicious! The manager recommended eating the pan a cotta and pan de crème together and that was soooo good! It was a nice, light dessert but very tasty! I would definitely recommend trying it

Because it is so exxxxxxpensive, this is not a restaurant you casually dine at. But since it was my sister's Bachelorette weekend, my group of 7 treated the bride-to-be to a luxurious dinner here in May 2026. And she had a wonderful experience! The interior is gorgeous, elegant, and smells amazing. The staff is professional and runs with the efficiency of a Michellen-starred restaurant. I always enjoy watching a staff of 7 deliver the table their food like they are performing a choreographed dance. I ordered the cheapest drink on the menu - a yummy local beer from MadTree for $7. The others had much more expensive cocktails that were $20+. You won't have to worry - while their food menu is small and selective, the drink menu is HUGE. They surprised us with glasses of in honor of my sister's upcoming nuptials. That was a lovely treat! I kept to being a cheap-o and ordered the $18 "Arpege" salad as my main. It didn't have any meat but it had a lot of cheese! Yum! Others ordered more substantial mains like the scallops, the beef tartare, the halibut, etc. All were plated beautifully. I had a bite of the bolognese, and while a small portion, it was superb. You do have to pay for bread service but it is unlimited refills so on $8, the 7 of us went through 6 loaves of bread and 6 trays of delicious salted butter. I personally probably had 2 loaves on my own. My god, it was the best thing I ate the entire trip! After we ate our mains, we then ordered a variety of desserts. Most of us got ice cream (get the strawberry!!). My sister and another girl got the famous "candy bar" dessert and the cheesecake. I had a bite of the candy bar and for $15, it was the most dense candy bar ever! Sooooo much chocolate! I'll end here but with tax and tip, we paid about $630ish. My portion was $51, by far the lowest of the group. I got out relatively cheaply because I filled up on bread but feel free to treat yourself and indulge a bit more!

Everybody, each member of the staff was fantastic. The pomme soufflés are out of this world. They are such a treat. We always love their Hamachi, specially, when they have it with the grapefruit and slivers of jalapeños. Right now they have a truffle Hamachi, which was really fabulous as well. Their foie gras torchon is also exceptional. We cannot wait for them to bring back the cod in buerre Blanc sauce. But last night we opted for the hamburger, which is quite the treat there. If you are a bourbon drinker, you should try their buffalo trace single barrel right now. My husband thought it was more delicious than most other buffalo trace, more of a cherry and vanilla hint. Anyway, we had a perfect night.

You know how most "casual French" places are either casual (translation: sloppy) or French…read more(translation: $38 for three bites and a life lesson)? This place somehow avoids both traps. It's the rare restaurant that delivers quality without acting like it deserves a TED Talk for doing so. The food is consistently strong...like "you actually remember what you ordered tomorrow" strong. No foam experiments, no deconstructed nonsense, just dishes that taste like the chef respects both the cuisine and your wallet. In today's market, that's practically a miracle... or at least a manager who hasn't lost his mind. Service? Shockingly competent. The staff is attentive without hovering like a helicopter parent at a kindergarten recital. That doesn't happen by accident, the chef/owner is clearly a pro. A class act who hires well, trains properly, and....brace yourself...seems to care. I know, it's unsettling. The ambience hits that sweet spot: warm, relaxed, and just upscale enough that you feel like you made a good decision... but not so fancy that you're Googling "which fork do I use" under the table. And then there's the location, right next to The Blind Lemon. Honestly, you might find yourself rooting for a wait just so you can wander next door for a drink. It's the only time in life where bad timing actually improves your evening. Bottom line: This place doesn't try to impress you, it just does. Solid food, fair prices, great service, and an owner who runs a tight ship without making it feel like boot camp. In a world full of overhyped dining "concepts," this is something radical: a restaurant that simply works.
