Beautiful restaurant, really suits the France atmosphere along with the French inspired cuisine. My second time there and I would go back over and over again.

They had me at "complimentary mimosa with brunch". I recently took a trip to Halifax and a vacation just didn't feel like vacation without brunch with mimosas. I was pleasantly surprised by this find in Halifax. My boyfriend and I went for Sunday brunch. We didn't have a reservation but we got lucky because as we were leaving (around 1 pm) there was a line at the door. The restaurant was very quaint and European, it almost reminds me of Paris in Vegas. I ordered the smoked salmon savory crepe and my boyfriend ordered the banana bread French toast. Both of them were excellent and one of a kind. I don't think I've had these two dishes for brunch else where. The alcoholic drinks here were also really good and put us both in a very good mood for the rest of the day.

I've always enjoyed everything about Le Bistro from the atmosphere and staff to the food and drink selection! The last time I was there Liz made the evening extra special by helping me plan a surprise marriage proposal! I sang to the love of my life over the PA system and every person in the restaurant was silent until I finished (she said yes by the way!) Liz even added a special Greek Pizza just for us that I hope becomes a regular on the menu! The staff are always very friendly and know the menu well. Le Bistro is a very clean location and seems to be taking COVID precautions seriously. Enjoy your visit!

Le Bistro by Liz is so, so nice! The atmosphere made me wish I was on a romantic date (instead of an office party!). I'm usually not a fan of eating in a dark setting - but the entire mood that the décor Le Bistro offers is undeniably enjoyable. It's funky - cozy - classy. Our server was fantastic. He had great energy and was super personable and attentive. He made us laugh quite a few times - I love when servers do that! The food isn't the only reason we enjoy eating out so much. The menu was small but had a lot of different options and was very appropriately priced; ranging from $7 to $22. We ordered quite a bit. There are two types of mussels, spicy marinara and classic Chablis sauce, we had the Chablis. It was very flavourful. But, not as flavourful as the escargot; with wild mushrooms, caramelized onions and roasted red peppers, and goat cheese - I couldn't stop cleaning up the excess sauce with my bread! It was so good, I would go back just for that. We also had an order of potato skins; they were good, but nothing special. For my main dish I had the "Scallops a La Bordelaise". There was about 5 large Digby scallops with whole wheat fettuccini and chardonnay sauce. It was good - but a little boring; needed a kick to it. Some people in my party ordered the "Club Paris" - a chicken club sandwich served on pretzel bread - it looked really good! Everyone enjoyed their meal - there were absolutely no complaints! I'm not sure how I had room for dessert, but I did. My friend and I spilt their "famous yummy lemon parfait pie". It was not what I expected; but it was delicious. I would return here over and over again. It has such a great space. The only negative is their bathroom only has one stall. They were hosting a few holiday parties that night and long washroom waits are not fun! Bonus: I called to check if they take reservations, they did! And, it was for a Friday night! I was super impressed by this as usually restaraunts won't on weekends.

Asked for medium poached and got hard ones first then severely underdone second.

The worst brunch experience I've had in Halifax to date. We joined a group of our friends at Bistro By Liz this morning for a celebration and because we were a larger group (15 people) they provided a set menu. I have quite a few food sensitivities and there was nothing on their set menu that I could eat. In hopes that I wouldn't cause too much upset or make it difficult on their kitchen, I requested 2 medium poached eggs and a side salad with no dressing. Simple enough, right? Wrong. The manager told me that, "they normally don't do special orders for large groups because it slows down their kitchen and throws off everyone else's meals from being made on time." I was shocked she told me this and was about to say never mind I will pass on brunch but she followed it with, "but it's fine, I'll let them know." My plate came out and had about 1/2 a cup of mixed greens on it, 1 slice of tomato, and 2 hard poaches eggs sitting in water. I ate the salad and wasn't going to say anything about the eggs but my fiancé realized that everyone else who ordered the same meal as him got bacon on their plate, but he did not. He mentioned it to the server and also mentioned that my eggs were overdone and without an apology or explanation, our server said "I'll get that for you." Her attitude and the attitude of the manager was almost worse than the experience we had with the food. She came back about 5 minutes later with a plate of bacon for my fiancé and 2 more poached eggs for me. I could tell just by looking at them that they were underdone. I broke them open and they were almost raw... She never came back to ask how they were so when she was clearing the plates I mentioned that they were way underdone. She took my plate and said, "I'll take it off of your bill then." No apology again. When we received our bill, I was shocked to see that they had charged me $6.95 for a half a cup of mixed greens. (Side note: I did not even get dressing on this "salad.") Overall, the service was terrible, the food was terrible and I will not be back. I would have mentioned this at the restaurant if we weren't there to celebrate with our friends.

I ordered the croque and was disappointed. I have been to many French restaurants and the thing about French food is that it doesn't need a twist on any of their traditional meals and this is a twist gone wrong. The sandwhich (which is what I will call it) had prosciutto on it. Let's pause for a minute because anyone who knows what prosciutto is would know that it is not a main meat. This is a meat that compliments a dish or enhances a meat but it again is not the main meat. Prosciutto can be found wrapped in asparagus or chicken etc. which is the same thing people do with just plain ole bacon. So that was the first fail. The sandwhich did not have ham and anyone who had eaten a croquet knows this is basically a ham sandwhich with cheese and can sometimes have egg on it. This was also served on a little brat bun which is what I will call it because it looked like I was eating a dressed up sandwhich on a brat or small hoagie bun. Again this should be on bread not a bun. The sandwhich had parts that were hard because again it was served on a bun type of bread. It had slivered onions prosciutto and apparently and egg but I didn't taste and egg or see one on it. I would suggest anyone who likes a true croquet don't waste your time you will be disappointed.

Came here twice in two days! Only because I had a CoastMart coupon that I tried to use on the weekend during brunch but the server politely pointed out that it cannot be used for brunch. NBD, I'll just come back, which I did, last night! Monday nights usually don't lend themselves to be a busy night for eating out but you can tell LBBL was trying to entice people with their Monday special (Free app or lemon pie dessert with entree); pretty good deal I'd say. Either way, I got the bistro burger (sub salad instead of fries, but the size of the salad was a bit disappointing) and my friend got the chicken crepe. Server was very pleasant and it was actually the same person that served me brunch over the weekend. Ha. I know some people think LBBL tries too hard with their French ambiance, but I love it. It's nice to switch it up from the usual Maritime/East Coast theme with the same usual decor, etc. etc. And the french music in the background is awesome. Food came out hot and delicious and they even were able to accommodate my lettuce for bun request (it's amazing to me how many kitchens won't do that). I wasn't expecting the lemon pie because I got a sandwich meal instead of a $20+ entree, but it was a pleasant surprise and I devoured every last bit of that carby goodness. Service was a bit slow near the end, but it worked out for us since we had to lounge around till 7 anyways.

Croque monsieur is a helluva grilled cheese.

While I'd never been to the original iteration of Le Bistro, I'm always up for trying new places, especially when they're of the French variety. Occupying the space formerly held by Trinity on the ground floor of Park Vic, Le Bistro is much larger than I expected, with the atrium and seating that wraps around the corner as well. There's a distinct French design with red and white-checkered tablecloths, and lots of black to provide a dark counterpoint to the brightness of the area. However it seems like I'm getting slapped across the face with an obvious design, especially when your typical Euro-esque prints dot the restaurant and it all feels a little too much like you would expect a French place to be. Although my girlfriend and I arrived a little early to beat the lunch rush, the size of the place somewhat made it a moot point and we were never in any danger of not getting a seat or it being too busy, even as other groups of people trickle in. Being that it was my first meal of the day, I was leaning towards something not too too heavy so I went for a sandwich, although I still got the frites with it. The croque monsieur sounded irresistible - with Serrano ham, provolone and caramelized onions, the sandwich is then dipped in an egg wash and grilled. That thing I said about wanting a light lunch? Well that didn't work out so well in practice. After a short wait our lunches arrive and the croque monsieur is as delicious as it sounded. The ham and provolone are rich and flavourful while the sweet caramelized onions are a nice contrast. The egg-dipped bread is crisp and much more palate pleasing than your run of the mill bread. Should all sandwich bread be dipped in egg and grilled? I think there is a strong case for it. The only downside of the sandwich is that it is quite salty, and I am one who likes his salt. It's not Double Down salty, but it is a little off putting and you can almost feel your blood pressure rising. The Dijon mustard on the side for dipping your sandwich in is a good idea in theory, with the spicy mustard to cut through the richness of the sandwich, but damn if it isn't just too potent for me. The frites are thin and crunchy and I gladly gobble them up Service from the wait staff and the owner is prompt and friendly, and while my mind wasn't blown, Le Bistro is a cozy spot with an interesting menu full of French comfort foods that are definitely worth a try.

We had a nice Sunday brunch at this lovely bistro. It has a light, open and airy feel due to all the windows, and the solarium at the front. Service is very friendly, and the menu combines traditional French dishes with more traditional brunch foods. Both the onions soup and the breakfast skillet were excellent. And brunch comes with a free drink, so it's a good deal.

Drift was once on the list of top 100 Canadian restaurant, and we've decided to have lunch here…read moreduring our trip to Halifax. Reservation is easy and there's still plenty of spots for Friday lunch with same day booking. The vibe here is relaxing and quiet with the restaurant entrance hidden inside a hotel. Service is good too. The chef has demonstrated quite solid cooking skil and my suggestion is to go with the fancier dish here where the chef clearly pays more attention to, compared to dishes like fish and chips. I tried a classic cocktail with gin as the base. It turned out to be very refreshing. For food, Caesar salad was delicious. Pan fried cod fillet was cooked perfectly, very tender and went well with the roots vegetables. It was my favorite dish here. Lobster pasta was also delicious. Fish and chips were average, definitely not comparable to some of the food truck places. Fries were dry and tasted bitter. Overall, this is a good restaurant with great food quality, good service and nice environment. I would consider revisiting if I'm in Halifax again.

What do you think of when you're heading out east ? Seafood of course ! Let me tell you... I've got…read morea new appreciation for it after my trip last week. We've had a trip planned to golf Cabot for the last few years. The texts and emails were flying delays, cancelled trips and in general , I never thought it would happen. Surprisingly, Halifax was a quick little flight from Toronto and am I ever glad we did it. First off, we talked about getting lobster on the side of the road at shacks etc, blah blah blah but as soon as we landed we headed to meet a friend who said we must try this lobster croissant sandwich at The Drift. OMG OMG OMG ! Could be one of the best sandwiches I've ever tasted but you know what was even better, the Chablis, no, the lobster pasta, no... It was the lobster fritters. They were insane ! The fritters are a bit like a conch if you've ever had that in the BVIs but they are battered so perfectly with a zesty hint of like that is so perfect, it's too hard to describe. Over the top crispy timbit deliciousness with lobster. The drift is a MAJOR win, it's along the water in Halifaxs best hotel the Muir and it's just perfect. Our trip was filled with Oysters and I have to say, each place had slightly different variations but I will NEVER say I had a better Oyster than in Halifax. If you hear me say it, just call me out because we had at least 4 Oysters each at around 6 places and they were all better than anywhere I've ever eaten in the world, almost to the point where I didn't need the sides (almost). I am so glad I visited Halifax, oh and by the way, the golf at Cabot was insane ! INSANE ! Was it better than Cabot St Lucia ? Nope, but I give Cabot St Lucia a 9.8 and I give Cabot Cape Breton a 9.6. STOP right there ! I had the crab shack , I had the crab shack and oh my gosh was it good. Just outside Cabot is the best little shack with the freshest little sandwiches on fluffy buns. Check it out right here- get the mainlander sandwich and the crab bretoner. The mainlander is warm lobster spiced up on the bun, heaven ! And the crab bretoner is chilled crab, mix up perfectly with aioli, green on and a few other things. If you're near Inverness you better stop there. Ok ok ok , I'm writing all of this as I go but on the Sunday we end up at the 5 fishermen. Order the lobster, the carbonara lobster , the chowder and Oysters at every single place you go in Halifax and thank me later. I wasn't expecting to love the food this much, wow ! If you're there on a Sunday, hit Durty Nellys. In my Opinion it's the best pub in the world- yep ! See ya next week :)
