Don't know how this landed in Huntington - but glad it did. Wife and I went for the first time on Friday 2/13 I made reservations through their online system. Let me start by saying the reason it didn't receive that 5th star was because they didn't tell us via email, phone or text that the menu for the weekend was a fixed menu and everyone would be charged $75 per meal. That kind of information is important to your (potential) patrons. We agreed to the meal after being seated - and am glad we did. It's a beautiful restaurant inside. Classy with a modern flair, without being pretentious. All 5 courses were outstanding. The memorable among the courses between my wife and I were: appetizers chicken florentine sweet potato slices Soup tomato bisque (WOW) entree pork osso bucco with gouda grits Service was outstanding with each course well timed if not just slightly rushed. Definitely on the high side of what we'd pay for such a meal. $250 with drinks, tax and tip. I like this place. I don't know Huntington very well but it was a hidden gem in coal country. I had to try the shrimp and grits. Grits were prepared perfectly. I was surprised that it included six medium sized shrimp. The sausage had a nice kick. I would have liked the sausage sliced a tad larger. Overall the meal was plenty. Great location in downtown in a very cute building with a ton of character. The staff members are extremely friendly and attentive, the drinks have a great variety, and the menu is quite extensive. I ordered a meal that they were no longer serving, and they made it anyway - and it was delicious. My travel partner loved her octopus. I have never truly felt like I shouldn't have to pay for a dining experience until now. We waited over an hour for our food only for it to come out cold, under-seasoned, and poorly cooked, Still, you know, it happens.... Until the "owner" came and argued with us about our experience. Basically called our table of 6 adults liars. I'm sorry sir, if I tell you my food is cold, it's cold. How do you know my food wasn't cold, bland, etc? Did you taste it? If so, I'm calling the health department. I would typically suggest some training, etc... but at this point y'all just need to close the doors. Nice atmosphere for a date or business dinner. Large selection of wine and cocktails, and the appetizers (small plates) were outstanding. We ordered the spinach artichoke gratin with toast points, the fried green tomatoes, and the crab cakes. They exceeded expectations. I had the short ribs for my main course which was good but didn't blow me away. I like my meat wet and juicy and this was just slightly moist. Phenomenal food in the Tri-State area. Anytime I visit my home in Ashland, KY, I'm always so frustrated with the lack of good food in the area, but Le Bistro is a cut above the rest. The rosemary butter and bread was perfectly prepared. We shared a plate of the Arancini Bites--amazing. Rissoto deep fried--new to me and loved it. I had the Onion soup to begin--excellent preparation. Not too strong, excellent onion flavor, and the cheese was perfectly melted. Honestly, I could have eaten the Arancini bites, the soup and bread all evening and would have been just as happy. The braised short ribs were by far the best plate ordered--tender, delicious. The ancho-blueberry sauce was impressive in its creativity and mixed with the asiago grits, it was a great combination. The pork chop was tender, but way too thick of a cut and ended up a little dry to compensate cooking time. The leek/bacon/fennel/cabbage sautee complimented it well. The mashed potatoes were good, nothing groundbreaking. I'd recommend the Short Ribs of the two. Three people with a starter, all with wine, and three plates will run around $130-145. Pricey for Huntington, and you could get a much better meal of the same cuisine in a bigger city for about the same price. The service was prompt, very friendly, and very professional. Heather I believe was her name brought more bread without prompt, and timed the dishes well. Zero complaints with the service of the bistro. We had two problems though: 1) The one common problem between both the dishes was an excess of olive oil use--everything was a little too saturated with olive oil making the dishes very heavy and hard to finish. Please use just a third of the olive oil and you'll have much more balanced dishes! 2) The wine list was a joke. Several $12 bottles of wine that they were charging $9 a glass--e.g. Chasing Lions Cab (http://www.amazon.com/2012-Chasing-Lions-Cabernet-Sauvignon/dp/B00J4177FM)--I suppose they assume Huntington, WV crowds won't figure this out. Bring your own $12 bottle and have it corked there--and share with the table. (If they don't allow corkings, then they aren't doing the French bistro right). All together, I'll be back to Le Bistro when we need a great restuarant in town, and for me, it makes me so happy to such a great quality, and impressive venture into Franco-American cusisine in a place like the Tri-State area. Elsewhere this would be a 4/5, but for Huntington it's a solid 5/5 you can NOT go wrong. read more

I was home recently for a family gathering. My sister in law made a reservation for us all to have dinner here. This place is new since I lived in Huntington and new since I was there a couple years ago. The attire is nice dressy to a casual dressy. It's not a huge restaurant but a beautiful one. The decor is simple with some beautiful art work on the walls. There are exposed beams, vents and kitchen where there is a bar to sit at as well. The menu is a French style cuisine. Classic yet with a new twist as well. Each dish is well presented and colourful. We each had something different and I don't think there was one complaint. I had the pasta with chicken in a cream white wine sauce. It was delicious. For desert I had the bread pudding. What a wonderful twist on that classic. The wine and beer list is extensive as well as she liquor. The entire staff was a delight. I waitress was from Germany. We never needed anything as they were always refilling drinks, water and coffee at the end. It's not cheap but worth the expense for a special occasion. read more

BLUF: Fancy restaurant in nice area of town. Good menu, good drink menu. Good overall in all areas. I went with my grandma, sister and aunt and uncle. It has been several years since I have been in Huntington. It was good to see fancier places thriving. The place was hip and modern but with the older Huntington crowd; no college kids (at least when we were there). We got a bottle of wine which was really nice. I got the burger and it was pretty good but over cooked from my request of medium rare. It was still good. Came with bacon and a cheese that i forget but not your standard cheeses (subtle taste). It was a good burger. Everyone got something different but the only thing I tasted was my sis' truffle linguini. It was good and not over powering. Solid. No one had room for desert. I have mixed feelings about the service. The guy was very nice but it seemed like everything took much longer than it should have. I was with family so it was nice to be left alone to talk but I could see it being annoying if you werent trying to stay for a long time. This is my favorite place for lunch fare, although I can only eat here when I have a clear afternoon schedule, because the food is rich and I invariably suffer from a food coma afterward. Very reasonable lunch prices, considering the quality of the food and also relative to dinner pricing. The croque monsieur is delicious, though I don't think the sandwich traditionally comes slathered in a cheesy bechamel sauce. I am not complaining, however. Decor is beautiful, and the waitstaff are always friendly. Lunch service can be a little slow at times, so I typically ask for the bill as soon as the food arrives to speed things along. read more

Went yesterday for brunch. Had the croque madame and French onion soup. Both were outstanding. The soup was better than my favorite French restaurant in Las Vegas. The croque madame was on par with one I had at brunch in DC last weekend. The Gouda grits side was wonderful as well. People I was with had omelet and French toast. Both excellent. Mad I couldn't try the (essentially at $0.50 for a refill) bottomless mimosas and Bloody Mary bar. Both looked excellent and I will try them next time. Definitely recommend! read more

It pains me to have to write this review. We've been to Le Bistro five or six times, whenever we are in Huntington to visit our son. We love the food and the service, and have always looked forward to dining there. The food this time was absolutely up to par. My son had the pork with kale and pumpkin and I had the halibut. We shared the shrimp and grits appetizer. Yum! Stellar! The service was not good. And let me hasten to add-- I don't blame our waiter, who was very eager to please. The problem was, obviously, that no one has taken the time to train him in the finer points of service. I had to ask for basic things, like spoons, knives, cream and sugar for my decaf...etc. I even had to ask him to take away dirty dishes. Maybe they need a busser. I tried to get his attention a few times and wasn't successful. The restaurant was empty, except for one large party which had a different waiter. So I knew he wasn't distracted. As I said, he was eager to please but lacking in the art of anticipating customers' needs, which is what one expects in a restaurant of this caliber (and price). As for the three stars, it goes from "meh" to "A-okay". I wish there was something in between. read more

Living in Huntington, I eat here frequently. Quality ingredients, nice atmosphere, very good menu, good service, etc. Happy to have this option in a relatively small town. My problem is that,.. what "bistro" would not have a reasonably priced wine to offer at lunch or dinner? At lunch, if you order a glass of "house" Chardonnay, you receive a small (5 ounce, approximately) glass of wine priced at $12.00. Outrageous. Order a couple of $10 entrees and two glasses of wine and expect a $50 tab not including gratuity. Just be aware that their wine or cocktail prices are terribly over-priced. read more

I am amazed at the care their kitchen lavishes on food, and the overall quality of ingredients. These are food professionals, and you really should treat yourself. I took my grandson there today for a late Brunch. When we walked in at 2:00 there was not a hostess and all the staff were standing around the bar (there were three other tables with diners and some people sitting at the bar). Our waiter might have been new since he didn't know what juices were available, but he did go find out the selection. He was very nice and personable (but not very attentive). As for our food, my grandson ordered the Banana Nutella French toast which I tasted and thought it was quite good. I had the crab cakes benedict and was quite disappointed. I had ordered my eggs poached medium and they came hard and room temperature. Instead of the hollandaise sauce being poured over the eggs the cook tried to be fancy and drizzled it back and forth over the eggs which might have looked nice but there was very little sauce, at most not much more than a tablespoon. I actually could not tell if it was a good or bad sauce because I couldn't taste it (the sauce isn't just for decoration). Instead of your typical English muffin the benedict was served with a potato cake that might be a good idea if it had a taste. It was quite literally so bland that at first I thought it was a biscuit since all I could taste was flour and starch (maybe adding some diced onions to the cake would help). I did have a mimosa with my meal and it was good. Overall, not great but I might come back and try something else. read more
