Man this place is tired, like a couple of years post boom kinda tired. You can see where the initial money was spend but now its gotten knicked here and there, a little grimy and faded. I was hungry and cold and feeling a little unimaginative myself so I went for the bangers and mash. Which managed the job of filling me adequately. This is probably unnecessary to say but I did check in, an offer of cocktail if I got two courses popped up. This was like 2.30 in the day so wasn't feeling that really but out of a sense of interest, I asked anyway. Waiter had no clue what I was talking about. Le Bon Crubeen is a new French restaurant located on Talbot Street. I went in for lunch after hearing good reviews and I wasn't disappointed. I was impressed that such a sophisticated brasserie was located in an area of town known for being rough and dodgy. The inside was tastefully decorated with plenty of tables. French framed posters of old advertising campaigns decorated the walls. Most of the customers looked like they were on their lunch break from the office. It was quite busy and the waiter asked us to wait at the bar for a free table. We only waited 10 minutes which gave us enough time to look at the menu and decide what we wanted to eat. The food was delicious and well-presented. I order a duck spring roll and noodle salad to start and a goat's cheese and pumpkin tart for my main. Both dishes were light and healthy so I did not feel uncomfortably full at the end of the meal. The service was excellent. We felt looked after despite the busy atmosphere. I will definitely be coming back here next time I fancy French food. read more

An Asian-American's review: Hostess: sat the party before us-all good. When she came back, another group of Caucasians walked in and she asked "who was here first" and DID NOT EVEN LOOK at my husband and I. She looked at the group of Caucasians the whole time. Don't know if that was intentional or not but it certainly did not feel good. She asked if we had a reservation, we said no, she said no availability until later, and as we were about to leave, THEN someone said, maybe her maybe not, unless we wanted to sit at the bar. So we scrambled to the bar to make sure we could get seats since we were there first. So we sat there, for a while, thinking someone would come take our order, as was our sit-at-bar experience in the past. We waited and waited, watched the busy bartender make all those drinks and didn't mind us. So I thought maybe Ireland is a place where you're supposed to ask for service, so I asked him who we're to place our order with. Then he got a server to come take our order. The good part: food! We had been traveling for a while and very hungry (Delta airline food is only okay...) We got the Irish stew (19€) and fish and chips (14.?€). Both were delicious! The giant hunk of lamb was cooked just right, still had that delicious lamb flavor and very tender and juicy. The fish and chips were one big piece of fish and many chips (fries). The chips were HUGE! Maybe 2 cm squared for area. The fish was good, but my favorite was the small salad that came with. Delightful light dressing. Ok. I would have normally walked by this place because of its location. I may have stopped and looked at the awards and thought "maybe" and then walked on. I was a fool to have done this and I regret that I had not taken the chance to try the wonders of their menu. I had asparagus with salmon and hollandaise sauce. I don't go for fish that often but, amazing. So subtle and complex. The flavours were exquisitely balanced and so delicate. I truly enjoyed this dish and will have no problems in ordering it in future (after I have tried everything else on the starter menu). Unfortunately I are it all before I had the chance to take a photo. For mains I had duck. It was mind blowing, as it should have been. But the revelation was Andrea's mains of haddock. I was blown away by this and regretted not ordering this. But back to what I ordered. The duck was cooked to perfection. The skin was salty and exploded in my mouth. For desert I had sticky toffy pudding. Yum. I really like this place. The only problems were that the service was very slow and some orders at the end were mixed up. I don't know why but at one stage music was pumped in which was that loud it was painful. But. We did come during a bank holiday weekend (no work Monday!!). Ok so firstly the cocktail offer expired a year ago. That kinda annoyed me and was the main reason we docked a star. Other than that there were very few issues with the restaurant itself. The waitress was a little inexperienced but very nice and attentive. We were left waiting at times for our plates to be cleared but as it was peak dining time we understood at the time. Food itself was tasty. I got the fried haloumi salad with pomegranate while my girlfriend got the fish cakes. Both of which were tasty. The mains of steak and the chicken dish were also nice and lastly the desert of bavarois and the chocolate Creme brûlée were also nice. But as you can see nothing really stood out. It was a fine meal but just that. Didn't really feel the urge to return as it was while tasty not incredibly adventurous or standout. When an older gentlemen in the table next to us tried to ask for a different variation maybe peas without butter or something to that degree he was shot down. Everything came as the menu said which made us think that dishes were mass prepared as the menu was limited while efficient this sucked the life out of the food and made it all feel very boring. Lovely restaurant. Had wonderful and attentive service. Ordered the watermelon proscuitto salad, duck, homemade rocher and strawberries with meringue. Drinks were great, salad was delicious (as well as beautiful), duck was tender and had a depth of flavor that was brightened by the pomegranate and fresh plum. The desserts were amazing but the homemade rocher was the star. Choose it if you are a fan of chocolate desserts. Great evening and lovely experience here! read more

5 star rating from me! My husband and I hit this place last night and what a fantastic way to start off a great Friday evening! The decor was warm and beautiful without being pretentious. We waited at the bar for about 10 minutes before being seated while we enjoyed our beers and looked over the menu. It was early Friday evening on a clear spring night, so the place was absolutely hopping with lots of people obviously having a good time. Le Bon Crubeen serves french bistro style cuisine. I had an absolutely scrumptious, very lightly fried sea bass with olives purree, sun dried tomatoes, green beans and artichoke for a main. My husband had the steak fritte with the most well made medium-rare steak I've tasted in quite some time. Portions weren't giant so we didn't stumble out of the place and service was excellent. I'm definitely planning on going back and taking a couple friends along with me. I believe the menu and prices have changed since the first reviews were written. We found it great value for the money and paid €12.50 for each of our main dishes. The neighborhood is not the poshest but I felt totally safe. Wonderful budget place to go to before hitting the bar/club scene in town. read more

Apart from Il Vignardo on nearby Store Street and Sheries Cafe Bar on Abbey Street, Talbot Street, culinary wise has only a modest amount to offer. Le Bon Crubeen is a division of the Celtic Lodge Guesthouse, also home to the Celt Bar. It boasts granite-topped counters, relaxed banquette seats, and Rat Pack-style music in the background. In fact, it all feels nicely continental. A la Carte starters were €4.95-€7.95 with mains as €17.50-€24.00. I had a very pleasant duck and spiced-pear salad for my starter (€7.95) tossed in mixed leaves. I fell for the consoling sound of five-spiced pork belly (€17.80), a very generous dish of three ample cubes of mouth-wateringly tender belly of pork accompanied by sweet and sour peppers and onions, plus a large bowl of potatoes. The relaxed and obliging atmosphere of Le Bon Crubeen made me unquestionably want to return for more. read more

Several times I have called here, and every single time, it's been buzzing, and they asked me whether I had a reservation (never had). So - I have eaten only at the bar. It's very good, and I can see why they're so busy. Nice menu - salads, starters and mains; good selection of Irish-sourced ingredients - whether meat or fish. Staff are really very impressive - attentive and friendly, and efficient. I think whoever the Maitre'd is is responsible for this - there's a definite sense of someone specific being "in charge" of the room (something you don't get in some places, where it's more like the kids are running the creche :-) Anyway : food was very good. Steak (excellent), High Class bangers and mash (very good), and pretty decent Caesar Salad. Good wine selection, plus some interesting beers ensured all were happy in our gang. I'd highly recommend it - and it's modestly priced to boot. Now that Talbot 101 has started to fade somewhat, this is now the best reason to wander down Talbot Street. read more

One word: WOW. How have I lived in Dublin for two years and not realized that this place existed? This restaurant, which prides itself on serving French fare for reasonable prices ("for feck all," as they say), is unbelievably good. A friend and I split the Chicken Liver and Foie Gras Parfait (creamy and delicious). I also sampled the Warm Poached Hens Egg (I don't even like pudding and I was coming back for more, so that's saying something!), the Pan Seared Scallops (immaculately cooked and flavored), and the Pork Rillette (it was definitely love at first bite for this pulled pork fan). When it came time for mains, I ordered the rib eye steak with truffle herb butter (yes, truffle herb butter). Cooked to perfection, this steak was to die for. On top of that, it came with incredible hand cut chips fried in duck fat. Though I was nearly filled to the brim, I couldn't help myself and went for the Classic Vanilla Crème Brulee. What a great choice! This rich custard was amazing. All in all, the food was fantastic, our waiter was attentive and helpful, and the restaurant itself was cute. Quite a pleasant restaurant to go for dinner, but the night I was there my friend and I were the only ones dining. It's quite a weird feeling being the only two people in a large restaurant. Anyway we managed to get over it pretty quickly, because it meant the waiter was pretty much OUR personal waiter for the evening. He was a lovely guy and chatted on and on to us (in a good way, of course!) Le Bon Crubeen must be run by the same crowd as The Celt pub next door, because they are joined at the back. I went here last night for a Christmas staff do, so we were given a set menu, it still had a large selection. I started with goose pate with Melba toast, although it wasn't described as pate it had that type of consistency. Bafflingly it had a dollop of coleslaw beside it. So that combination really threw me. The rest of the table had the deep fried brie, which they all loved. I had sea bass as the main and it was rather tasteless to be honest, but it is a very difficult fish to add flavour too. So why am I a fan? OK the food was not astounding but everyone was satisfied with what they got and the portions where very anti-French and more pro-America. The service was fantastic, the manager came down a few times to check that everything was OK. The interior is covered with posters from 1900 France, think Molin Rouge etc. It's bright and warm, lots of reds. The bar is impressive. The toilets are immaculate, although you try walking down a flight of stairs in killer heels and a tight fish tail skirt, it was terrifying. I developed a side ways hop that any gangster would be proud of. The atmosphere was electric, lots of Christmas parties and best of all it started to snow at the end of the night. read more

I came here yesterday for a lunch meeting. A bit chilly to sit outside, so I went in to the back of the dining room. Really nice and comfortable. I ordered the grilled peach and feta salad. Popped in for dinner after a matinee show at the Abbey theatre on Saturday. We had a table booked for 5pm, and it was busy, the head waiter turned away several groups from the door due to bookings etc. Firstly we ordered a bottle of wine and that was decent for a house white. The first course can out very quickly; we put this down to the order - chowder for me and soup for my wife. Obviously these would be ready to go. We took our time, and they were very good, lots of smoked haddock in my chowder, and great brown bread. However the minute the plates were lifted the main course arrived - this was too quick for us, and it was a pity as the food again was very. I had the hake and my wife had the bangers and mash. We had coffees afterwards and weren't rushed at all. The staff were very friendly and recommended items from the menu and had a good understanding of the food. Nope. Just nope. Quite disappointed in my visit there. I went with two friends. I don't know if it's just crap value at Christmas but their early bird off was 3 courses for 30 euro. We were heading to another event where there'd be food, so we wanted a smaller meal anyway My dinner companions went for starters with sides and I chose a main on the ala carte and asked for chips with it, instead of mash as advertised. We also ordered a bottle of prosecco (29 euro). Our waiter seemed unimpressed with our order, and service was not good. I was gobsmacked when my main arrived... panfried chicken fillet. I literally got a fried chicken fillet and chips on a plate with a little bowl of gravy separate. Nothing else, no veggies. I just thought 'seriously? this is 17 euro!'. I also paid 7 euro for 3 incomplete scoops of crap ice-cream. I think this place used to be good value but that is not the case now. I don't think I'll ever go again. All I can say is perfection! It does what it says on the tin. The menu was really nice with lots of choice and no surprises! I had soup and the fish and chips. My boyfriend had the steak. Really rich and filling. The staff and atmosphere was really relaxing. The food came out really quickly! Waiter/waitresses were so friendly and helpful. My only issue and this is mostly because I'm a huge dessert lover. Selection was not good. The menu was great until we got to here. Every normal dessert came with a twist and not in a good way. Overall though I would completely recommend it for a nice relaxing meal. If your like me and like a nice slice of chocolate cake or cheesecake you might be disappointed when you get to this part of the menu. read more

Went here on a Groupon deal. It was 3 courses for 2, from the a la carte menu for €49. Tbh for that money I didn't have the greatest expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. My mum started with an apple and black pudding tatin. While I went for scallops. The scallops were exceptional! It's been a long time since I had scallops that perfectly cooked. Celeriac purée was to die for. Just a shame there wasn't more For main we both had an 8oz fillet with roasted garlic and tomatoes. I opted for mid rare. Whereas my mum likes it destroyed and well done. It was very nice. The caramel panna cotta I have for desert was lovely. Unfortunately it was gone in around 60 seconds. My mum painfully ate hers at 2 miles an hour just to annoy me. My god, she's a pain in the **** Nice atmosphere, good location. Especially as temple bar is not far away. Service was faultless. As was the time between courses. A very nice lil French place that I can't wait to go back to. If this was in Belfast I can see me being here a few times a week. read more

I've passed Le Bon Crubeen a hundred times walking from my IFSC apartment into town and I would always say to myself "yes I must try there". Last week I finally got around to it as we had ticket for Glen Garry Glen Ross in the Gate (also great) and it was on the way. I really like the atmosphere in here, it's relaxed and modern at the same time. For starters we both had the cream of celeriac soup which was incredible and there was loads of it! A friend of ours had just been in for lunch that day and highly recommended the pork shoulder which I didn't order because I'm extremely stupid. I had the pumpkin ravioli and while it was fine, it lacked a bit of flavour and as soon as I tasted some of my husband's pork shoulder I came down with a serious case of "I-want-tha". I was a bit disappointed in my own dinner but that pork was so flaming good I have it to give four stars. Service was faultless and at 22 euro each for 2 course it was a steal. read more

After visiting The Celt a few time, we decide to go here last night. BRILLIANT IDEA! Such a good place in Talbot street. Food was very well prepared. Even that is a mix pub/french, they have some (good) vegetarian options. The service was good and quick though. Such a small note: we had a groupon voucher which was the exact same price than a 3 courses menu -25eur pp. Really good when you compare with another trendy / hispter places in city center with bad food and more expensive. Some colleagues and I went to Le Bon Crubeen for a night out. The service, quality and food exceeded my expectations. It was fantastic. We had a lovely server who immediately gave us water without having to ask. My friend had been there before and make a few recommendations. I had the Salmon Shrimp Salad which was positively fantastic. So delicious and unusual! I cannot wait to go back to Dublin and I will definitely make this restaurant a regular place to eat during my visit. The restaurant was recommended to us by locals. The steak was delicious, done perfectly... but then the sauce served with it was quite bland. The chips were cold and mushy. Dublin is a hive of tourist traps and nonsense, a wonderful city that rather Faustianly has handed it's powerfully meaty 19th century working class history over to stuffed leprechauns and Guinness hoardings. Le Bon Crubeen is the sort of pace that thrives on this wager, nestled at the end of a bustling street it offers a reasonably priced set menu but the food is uninspiring. It felt slightly rubbery and soulless and sadly I didn't really get to grips with the place. I would try it again as I felt I wasn't drunk enough, that's why curry houses always get great ratings, drop your booze prices I implore average restaurants everywhere. read more

We went here with a voucher for 2; starters, main, desert and 2 glasses of wine. We were greeted at the door and seated in a less lively area to the back of the restaurant which suited us fine. Our order was taken quickly and starters arrived without waiting too long. The starters were really lovely but it went downhill from there. It took some time for the plates to be cleared, there was just no staff around. When the mains finally arrived, they were just okay. My partner had asked for skinny chips and got fat chips, the waiter never came back so he could change them. I fact, no one checked on us whether everything was in order. We waited 40mins after finishing the main for our desert order to be taken which was part of the deal. We were out of water, out of wine and it was a Thursday night and not very busy. Le Bon Crubeen was raved about by an American couple who were visiting Dublin. I decided to check it out. The greeter was worried as I didn't have reservations, so I sat at in the bar area. It was pretty busy, and the staff was friendly. The soup of the day was a potato and leek soup, and it was AMAZING! One of the best soups I've had in a long time. The caesar salad was ok, nothing special about it. The tuna sandwich was ok, nothing to write home about, as was the Grilled Salmon Fillet, (with Potato Rosti, Pesto Green Beans And Beuree Blanc). All in all it was a good place to eat, especially in Dublin, but it lacked the WOW factor for me (outside of the potato and leek soup), so it's a solid 3 stars. read more
