This was my second visit to Le Bon Georges -- this time I came for lunch instead of dinner -- and it was even more spectacular than the first time. The restaurant filled up quickly at lunchtime and the atmosphere was pleasantly bustling. The kitchen staff and waiters and waitresses all buzzed along with aplomb, and the service was thorough, quick, and pleasant. The waiter came with the ardoise and explained the menu thoroughly. Although I didn't order any steak, they were listed on the chalkboard by type (Wagyu, etc.) and weight in grams. It was vicariously fun to watch them slowly get crossed off as they were ordered by diners. The kitchen would bring out the beautiful piece of meat to show the table before cooking it to your liking. The carte des vins is so immense that it could give you a hernia. What an extraordinary list! You could find just about anything your heart desires, including wines with age and delicious and special offerings by the glass. WOW. I had a little green salad to start, and the dressing was mustardy and pleasantly aggressive. It was a great match for a Provençal white blend. I had a 7-hour slow-cooked lamb shank for my main course, and it might be the most delicious gigot d'agneau this lamb lover has ever had. It came with tasty bread, potatoes, and a perfectly rich sauce to complement the tender meat. The little fat cap on top melted away and held a delicious herby flavor. I didn't want it to end. Why I won't go back: Cramped quarters and abysmal service. You HAVE to order: filet de boeuf au poivre Tony's Tip: If you have the asparagus, ask for the hollandiase sauce on the side - otherwise the dish will be smothered in it. People come here for the classic French bistro experience. And the food. The food is very good. Excellent in fact. It is the savior of the restaurant. Almost compensates for small, tight tables/counters and disjointed, if not wholly incompetent service. Almost. After several days of extravagant tasting menus down in the Bordeaux region, we were looking forward to some more traditional meals in Paris. On a recommendation from a well-traveled friend, we booked Le Bon Georges, which had long ago earned a reputation for great food in an authentic setting. Arriving on time, we walked into a cute, "cozy" (to be kind) establishment, where we were promptly led to the back of the restaurant - to a tight counter space in an overly bright room. We shut that down immediately. The next attempt was a small table for two in the room next to the bar that was bookended by the stairs (with waiters coming and going) and a stack of dinner plates on a serving station that waiters were constantly drawing from. Nope. They finally said, "pick anything you want," and we settled into a two-top in that room which was less claustrophobic than most other options. As for the rest of the evening's mishaps, enjoy this rundown: - wine list presented in the form of a heavy, 6-inch thick book and a smirky "good luck" - the "sommelier" - a kid of about 30 - comes back after two minutes to see what we'd like. I ask if he has a cab/merlot blend. He shows me the cabs. I say, yes, but with merlot. Merlot? He appears not to have heard of this varietal. I reiterate, we would like a red blend. Blend? Another concept lost in translation. I finally shoo him off and settle on a red from Margeaux, asking when he returns if he's got an opinion on the 1995, 1996, or 2000 vintages. His response - 1996 was "a good year" lol. I'm pretty sure the real sommelier was off for the evening and they said to this guy, "you be sommelier tonight." The vintages are all similarly priced, so I go with the 1995. - after I taste, he decants it, then attempts to leave the glass decanter on the edge of the small table. I suggest that might not be wise, and how about leaving it at the serving station. Of, yes, good idea. - bread was served, but we had to ask for butter, which took 10 minutes. Butter arrived with the bread at the table next to us. - at some point prior to dessert, our glasses were empty and I had to flag him down to see if we had any wine left (I knew we did). He claims he had forgotten. I also can't guarantee that he didn't mix up our wine with the couple's next to us - similar decanters, similar color. - it took a while for our dinner plates to be cleared, and then there was a long gap between dessert and the bill being presented. At least 20 minutes of downtime. Fine, except we had been chatting with our neighbors, and a hostess stopped over to rush us out almost as soon as we paid since they needed the table. Look - it's just hard to fully enjoy a meal with such a clown show going on around you. That said, the food was indeed excellent. I had an onion tart encased in bacon as my starter, and it was a perfect combo of sweet and savory (Tony's bonus tip: try any onion-based dish at a great restaurant - it's a wonder what chefs can do with this typical garnish as the main event). My wife loved her seasonal asparagus as well as the white fish entree she ordered. I went with the classic steak au poivre and it did not disappoint. A perfect medium-rare, tender, with an au poivre sauce so good I soaked it up with the bread AND the fries. Speaking of which, these were classic medium-cut fries that were crispy on the outside with a touch of salt that we both devoured. And about that dessert - yes, we did the cliche thing and ordered the pot of chocolate mousse, as did most of the restaurant. It's as big as your hand, but also creamy and airy, not dense. We polished off half of it, feeling good about the damage done. Having loved the food, why did I land on 3 stars and a bon voyage to Le Bon Georges? In the end, there are A TON of great bistros in Paris. You can find many that will crush it on the food while giving you a little more room to enjoy it with a more professional attempt at making your fine dining experience unforgettable in a good way. Since we were spending four nights in Paris, my brother and I split dinner choices. Le Bon Georges was one of mine, with my choice mainly being driven by social media recommendations, online reviews, and pictures. That being said, I booked a table and we made plans to dine here our second night in the city. Like many eateries I observed while in Paris, Le Bon Georges has a super inviting exterior - situated on a corner with both indoor and outdoor seating. Speaking of indoor, the charm continues inside with a pretty spacious dining room separated into two main spaces. We were seated in the back room which was quite comfortable. The menu contains a variety of classic French dishes, though they specialize in steak and also have a few more creative dishes as well. The menu is written on portable chalkboards (in French only) that are strategically placed in the dining room. While this may seem atypical, it works as it serves as an engagement tool for the servers to go over the entire menu with you in detail. We started with wine - the sommelier was very helpful and made a great recommendation. For food, we shared two apps: the pâté en croûte and the leeks. The latter was paired with a tasty sauce and charred just enough while still maintaining their leeky integrity. The former was delicious - a large combination of flavors that worked well all packed into a buttery crust mmmm. For my main I got steak - but it wasn't a traditional steak as it was more of a tartare that was lightly charred on the exterior. This led to the texture on the inside being more like steak tartare with a more cooked exterior. It was quite good, and the compound butter that came with it really complemented the meat. The dish came with sides of frites and a salad which were both very good. We decided to finish with dessert, and ordered the chocolate mousse. This was outrageous in all the best ways - it was served in a shareable pot and topped with loads of chocolate shards. It had rich chocolate flavor and the shards added a welcome texture - it was one of the best mousses I've had. Service was awesome. Emmanuel was working the room - he was super attentive, had a magnetic personality, and really enhanced our meal. Overall, I had a great experience at Le Bon George - this was a culinary highlight of my trip to Paris and I would definitely consider dining here again when I'm back in the city. read more

I have been fantasizing about a roast chicken in France since we booked our trip to Paris, and one of our first reservations was at Le Bon Georges. The restaurant is beautiful and the outdoor seating is the place to be. The service is wonderful - they bring a menu board to every table and a server reads through the whole menu with you. All classically French dishes that are not to be missed - oeufs mayonnaise, pate en croute, beef tartare, seasonal chanterelles. We ordered all of this, plus a 120€ roast chicken - a heritage breed from a free range farm outside of Paris. I don't want to call myself a chicken connoisseur.... But I've have my fair share of excellent roast chickens. This was a *very dissapointing* dry, unseasoned bird. Definitely overcooked. The saving grace was that, despite it all, it was a high quality bird. For 120€ chicken, it was a shame. All other parts of our meal were excellent. read more

Where to begin. From our initial greeting to the top off of Chartreuse VEP at the end it was all stellar. There was a somm and waiter duo and they were attentive and funny. I was initially unenthusiastic about the closeness of the tables but it turned out to be a highlight. We made friends with the groups around us and even shared their giant, delicious pot of chocolate mousse. We had the asparagus and then the morel starters and they were incredible. I had the filet au poivre which was everything I dreamed of. My husband had the sausage which he really enjoyed. The portion sizes are very generous so come hungry. I had really high expectations for Le Bon Georges based on the reviews and it being recommended to me by a very foodie friend. I appreciated the attention to detail in the service, the very cozy French kitchen ambiance, and the sommelier was sooooo good and made an amazing pick for us based on what we wanted. The food was very good, but it did not blow me out of the water the way everyone hyped it up. We started with the pate which was incredible, then had the eggs with mayo. We though this was going to be deviled eggs but it was just a hard boiled egg cut in half with a big swirl of mayo on top, served with a small side salad. While it was good I wish I had saved the calories and room in my stomach for something else. My husband got the fried cornish hen dish and that was delicious. I had a rabbit dish that was a little disappointing- the rabbit was a little dry and the dark brown sauce it was covered in was actually a little too rich (and normally I LOVE rich food). The whole thing was just too intense for me. That being said, the mashed potatoes were the best mashed potatoes I've ever had. We then split the VERY large chocolate mousse which could easily be split between 4 people. This was so so good. We took it to go and for the next two days I added it to my morning hotel espresso which was *chef's kiss*. HOT TIP: IF YOU ARE AMERICAN THE SERVERS WILL TRY TO GET YOU TO LEAVE A TIP. In France, the custom is IF you eat at a nice restaurant and feel you had EXCELLENT service, you leave a few Euros on the table when you leave. If they try to get you to tip on the credit card slip, just tell them you'll be leaving cash and know that literally 3-5 Euros is what is customary. We watched them not ask French or British customers to leave a tip, only the Americans because they know we are custom to it and may not know their practices. read more

Got a last-minute reservation here and had a blast. We hoped to just drink and order desserts, but were informed we did need to eat a whole meal. They gave us a beautiful outside table next to another group visiting from America. The menu changes every day based on ingredient freshness and availability, but our server walked us through the menu and made sure to check for allergies and answer questions. They also had a probably 8-inch tall book of wine options at all price points (I think the lowest I saw was 25 Euro, with more cheap options near 30 euro, and going up as high as several hundred). We are wine novices, so we asked for their opinion and gave a price point and they located us a bottle that was delish. The food was impeccable, with nice, fluffy, and chewy bread, great fries, and wonderful butter on top of the meat. The steak hache was wonderfully flavored. So good!! Felt very authentic Perusian. Their menu changes daily depending on seasonal and fresh ingredients. They do not have paper menus, just the chalkboard. I ended up getting the duck plate and my mom got one of the fishes. They both were really amazing, especially the sauces on each. They will give you a jar of pickles upon request which is so cool and they were really good. You could tell they were homemade. Their bread is also really good. Our favorite French bistro from our trip to Paris! Vibes were great from the moment we walked in. It's a bustling little restaurant with fun decor that feels very French without feeling tacky. It's the perfect balance of nice without being super upscale or fancy either. While the French have a reputation, the service here was truly above and beyond anywhere else we went in France. I suggest you inform their Sommelier of your preferences and let them curate your pairings. Now that you've let the expert know what type of wines you like it's time for the food. I started with the Warm Beef Tongue and let me tell you it was the most beautiful French kiss I've ever had! The tenderness and bold flavors of the tongue paired beautifully with the silky tuna ravigote and tart radish salad. For my main course I recommend the Kintoa Pig. The pork was pan-seared beautifully and when you take bites of the caramelized fat cap along with the lentils the whole dish just sings! For dessert I wanted the chocolate mousse everyone raves about but I was by myself and the server advise that it was too much for one person and suggested the one you see in my pictures. I can't remember the name but the taste of it will always live in my memory palace. Our food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. The wine list was akin to a Russian novella in size, and a sommelier helped us navigate the tome. This place was AMAZING. I took my husband to Paris for the first time and wanted to pick places to eat that were truly special and reflective of the amazing food culture that France has to offer. This restaurant is it. Seeing a restaurant with so much hype on social media can often be misleading or disappointing, but this place earns every ounce of the hype. They are extremely friendly to non-English speakers and do a great job of walking you through the menu to understand your options. The wine menu is enormous, but the staff are ready with excellent recommendations at any price point. We started with an incredible asparagus dish that was covered in the most incredible hollandaise I've ever had. After that, my husband had a delicious roast lamb dish and I had the famous steak au poivre with fries. You can buy a large entrecote to share, but I went with the filet which was cooked to absolute medium-rare perfection! We were so full by the end of the night that we didn't even do dessert, but a couple next to us got the chocolate mousse which looked incredible (although 30 euro for a chocolate mousse is my only complaint of the restaurant). The ambiance of the restaurant is so cute. Tables are close together, like any classic Parisian restaurant, but the vibe is cozy and quintessentially Parisian. Long story short, GO HERE. At Le Bon Georges, everyone dining here seemed to be American -- usually a bad sign (says the American). Nevertheless, the restaurant, which is no well-kept secret, lives up to its reputation as one of the best brasseries in Paris. The food and service were flawless, and the room is a picture-perfect execution of what one expects a Parisian brasserie to look like without tipping over into Disney-style pastiche. The champagne by the glass when I visited was a fantastic Pierre Paillard rosé of which I had a bottle cellared back home, so clearly Le Bon Georges was on my wavelength. Quintessential French bistro experience with excellent service, excellent wine, and excellent food. RESERVATIONS Reservations are recommended and easily made online. There is a good amount of communication between the restaurant and yourself, and we got a heads up when traffic changes as a result of the Olympics which came in just a couple weeks before our reservation. GETTING THERE The restaurant itself is located on a very charming street on a corner, with an attractive exterior with terrace seating options as well as interior seating. SERVICE Where is seated promptly once our reservation details were confirmed, and a handwritten chalkboard of The menu was presented. We were given a couple minutes to digest this menu, and with our broken French we eagerly accepted the offer to translate from our helpful server, who went through each one in detail which was really awesome for us, and in fact changed our minds and convinced us to order certain things on the menu. For example, the beef tartar, the server mentioned that it is only beef, pepper, salt, nothing like pickles or other sauces to mask the flavor because the beef is excellent quality. Coincidentally I had just had a beef tartar earlier that day so I wasn't planning on getting it, but when I heard about the quality of the beef I had to order it. It ended up being the best beef tartar I'd ever had! The wine list is the largest wine list I've ever seen, you need two hands to heft it onto the table. We ordered by the glass, but there are a lot of options by the bottle too. The champagne rosé was excellent for a summer day and with our fish carpaccio appetizer. It also held up well throughout the tartare dish. FOOD The carpaccio was a thickly cut white fish dish with olive oil and some crunchy carrots and ... Radish? around it. The bread was nice to stop up the sauce after we finished the fish, which was thick and toothsome. We also ordered the chicken dish, which came beautifully presented on a bed of seasonal peas with pork, and a pool of gravy. As mentioned before, the beef tartare was excellent and a standout, it comes with a side salad (not too sweet and very fresh crunchy veggies) and also a side of fries. The dessert wine menu was excellent, and the sommelier was very helpful and to the point, recommending the champagne option, which was served via suction- you've got to order it to see it! Really excellent and can't wait to come back and try some of the other menu items, throughout the seasons! When in Paris you have to eat where the locals do. This restaurant lived up to all our expectations. Our only regret was not having space for the mousse that looked scrumptious! I went here two years ago and was blown away, sadly I came back and was underwhelmed. The food was not bad...just okay. I know they recently lost both their pastry chef and head chef which likely played a part in my experience. They still have the largest wine list around but they have fallen from how good they used to be. The lobster special was flavorless, the steak was overcooked and under seasoned. The wine was phenomenal but I explicitly asked for a bottle under 60 euro and was given a 75e bottle. The chocolate mousse was not as good as it used to be and lacked in the fluffiness and richness it used to have. Overall, I hope they go back to how good they were. At this point I would pass until they figure their chef situation out. read more

We were very excited to dine here, as it was one of the experiences we were most looking forward to while visiting Paris. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most disappointing meals of our trip. This restaurant presents itself as fine dining, with premium pricing to match--but nothing about the actual experience reflects that standard. The food was overpriced for the quality, the service was unprofessional and inattentive, and the atmosphere did not align with what is advertised. You are paying top-tier prices without receiving a top-tier experience. What diners should know is that everything portrayed online--social media, website photos, and branding--is misleading. The elegant, welcoming, refined experience shown does not exist in reality. Additionally, if you are not a local, you should be prepared for a noticeably unfriendly and dismissive attitude. If you are American or not fluent in French, you are made to feel unwelcome from the moment you arrive. This is not a tourist-friendly establishment, nor does it make any effort to be inclusive or accommodating. In summary: Fine-dining prices without fine-dining quality Misleading online presence Rude, unwelcoming service Overpriced food for the lack of execution Uncomfortable experience for non-locals There are far better restaurants in Paris that deliver excellent food, genuine hospitality, and value for the price. Very friendly and intimate dining experience. It was a cold day and we had reservations on the terrace but they had blankets! The terrace was surrounded by plants so you weren't bothered by any road noise. We started with Champagne and Fois Gras and it was amazing! They brought a jar of pickles to our table with it. For the mains I got their pork dish that had white beans in sauce with prices of pork belly.....wonderful!....my wife got the Quail dish and she actually let me try it and wow! Then I got the Fig dessert and my wife got the pear dessert and they were both fantastic! Oh, the wine menu, I can't forget the wine menu.....lift weights for it! read more

A true or example of friendly, authentic and delicious French bistro food could not be found for this tourist! Everything was so great that after I went solo, I had to bring back my fiancé. Steak au poivre was out of this world delicious. I was hoping to find a good example of this classic dish and this one hits! Everything else, just fantastic! Ambiance: upper class bistro, yet still comfy. Service: English ok, ok service. Make a reservation!!!!! Menu: typical bistro items but much more sophisticated version. Wine menu is a thick album. Excellent choices though. Price: more expensive bistros than others, but the taste quality is more like true fine dining. - Gluttony Expedition - Terrine: great flavors, various textures, very sophisticated terrine. Love it. Beef tartare: chef's version. Very simple seasoning to make the quality of beef shine. No sauce necessary. Very tasty!!!!!! I've had many beef tartare in Paris but this was the best! Excellent. Pork: cooked well, seasoned well. Great portion. Cheese: excellent Chocolate mousse: we didn't order, but it was humongous... I'm sure it was tasty, but it'll feed the whole table for 6 people. - Conqueror's Deduction - Excellent!!! Refined bistro items. Totally next level of bistros. I was hoping for more due to Tik Tok reviews but was ok. Cute restaurant with outside patio. Great wine list selection and we went for lunch. We made reservations and enjoyed the ambiance. Definitely pricey and ordered steak and frites with white wine. I did like the sharing option of bread, salad, frites, and meat. I don't think it was worth the hype and so stuffed that we didn't get to try dessert. Great service but definitely too pricey for a lunch selection. read more

We really wanted to get in for dinner and we're disappointed. We only were able to acquire lunch reservations, but that disappointment ended with the first course. All of it I mean, all of it was absolutely amazing. We had a really great server, and as you can see by the photos below the food was outstanding. I highly recommend if you're in Paris, that you try to get a reservation at this place, the wine list looks like a Bible absolutely outstanding . read more
