We were visiting Quebec prior to boarding a cruise. We had just arrived in town and wanted some lunch. We passed several spots but Le Cafe Buade called our name! the staff was lovely, we had a little bit of a wait and they kept us posted on our timing. The menu was just what we needed and the food was delicious. I enjoyed the chicken sandwich with an Arnold Palmer and it was quite tasty. We would return if we were ever in town again. It's was close to the hotel and I loved the fish and chips. I had it with malt vinegar instead of their sauce. Not sure if this is Canada's traditional tartar sauce but I like it better than the American tartar sauce. I used that in my fries instead. My mom and I shared the cheesy garlic snails it was a a little salty but I think it maybe have been the type of cheese. It didn't come with bread but my bowl of Canadian bean soup came with a small bread. We used that to soak up all the juicy butter. With the bread it wasn't salty. My mom had their classic burger with salad. It must have been delicious since she ate it all. I liked the place it was really nice and cozy and I liked how the booths had plexiglass separators so I didn't hear other people talking but it wasn't all that busy but it felt like we had privacy. Or it's because I never see that in booth style restaurants. Nice to know this place has been around for over 100 years. read more

The consensus was that the sausage and bacon were not very good. French toast was OK. The crepe was terrible. it was hard and crispy - not exactly normal for crepes. This is a good choice if you want excellent food without the pretension. I had a lovely garden salad and a spaghetti bolognese, both of which were delicious. The tomatoes and other veggies in the salad were cut into tiny pieces spread over the greens, with a light dressing that added to the flavor of the salad without drowning it out. The spaghetti bolognese had both pork and veal, and was a little bit spicy, which only added to its interest. Really enjoyable. My friend had the salad, too, and a pea soup, which was also excellent. The portions were neither too large, nor too small, but just right. The service was great: friendly, but highly professional, with lightning efficiency. The place has a comfortable setting, a casual atmosphere, and a menu with a wide array of selections. This restaurant was good choice. We went away happy. read more

We were here just a few days ago on our last evening visiting. We stumbled across this wonderful place and were so happy that we did. Our food was so good, the cod with spaghetti was perfect and the creme brulee was out of this world. The service was very good and very kind. So I added a star because of the fact that they made space for us on a busy Saturday night in December. The staff was very nice, and spoke English, which was also a huge help! The food however was between a 2-3. I got the "Prime Rib Poutine" and we all got French Onion Soup. The prime Rib (if that is what it was) was cut into little pieces, and deep fried. Why?? It just needs to be thrown on the fries guys, topped with cheese and gravy, and call it a day. Anyway. The fries were delicious though. The smoked salmon salad was just blah. The French Onion Soup had marjoram (I believe) sprinkled on top which made it bitter, and it was made with mozzarella. Not what I want or expect in Quebec. I expect Swiss or gruyere. Ambiance was what you would expect from a diner. Nothing fancy, but clean. read more

Well, I got stuck needing to have dinner, against my better judgment, as most all other restaurants in the area were packed, this was virtually empty. I went in. I ordered a Rib Eye steak, and a started salad. Glass of wine, and waited....After a bit of time passes, the table across from me (a family of 4), ask, Has our food been started yet? Apparently, they had been there long before me, they all up and left. That got me concerned.... Then a table on the other side of me got their food, and complained of the quality of food for the price of the dish. The owner was standing right there with the poor waiter, and would only speak to the waiter, and seemed unhappy of the complaint. My food came, and the salad was ok, the steak on the other hand, was less than 1/2" thick, and so salty and fatty. Vegetables were meh. I had to ask to get my wine. I ate as it was the only thing I could get for the time. The bill came, Ouch, for what I got, the price was over the top. So in the end, I did not say anything to them, I just paid and left. With business handling like that, they will kill their own establishment in short time, So: I do NOT recommend, this place. read more

I had a hiking trip planned and the pick up point was near this restaurant. The service was great. Our server was attentive and polite. Unfortunately the cook was not on par today. I ordered an Egg Benedict and the meat and sauce tasted off. I wish this business well. I hope since they do have great intentions. That maybe they figure out the kitchen. I had my mother taste it, and she agreed it was not appealing. Breakfast is my favorite. Ive had a lot of great food in Quebec but not this morning. The order came out pretty quick and the food is awesome! I don't know why this place has such low reviews. We walked past this place several times during the week and browsed the menu. Finally decided to try it since it was late in the afternoon and it was starting to rain and blow cold air on me. Wanted to hide out and get some warmth. We decided on the pre fixe menu and got the salmon and the bbq ribs. Tbe pre fixe comes with escargots, salad or soup, main entree and a dessert. The escargots were ok but I'd prefer more garlic infusion. The french onion soup was not very good and didnt have much flavor. Entree of salmon was moist and flavorful but the bbq ribs were not tender and similar to the USA type bbq fare I'm used to. For dessert I heard the waiter pop two dishes into the microwave oven in the front and voila he brought out the two french desserts to our table. This is supposed to be a nice French place? Very busy restaurant, our waitress had a lot of tables to serve. Thankfully we were not far from the door should we need to use the bathrooms. Bathroom is close by and clean. I liked my hot hamburger very much. A hamburger covered in gravy. Small salad on the side with maple (syrup) dressing. Others got the poutine with sausage and a salmon salad. Don't come here if you are hungry. The service is extremely slow, even when the restaurant is empty. Some of the food is good, some is inedible. We had: Poutine - tasty Caesar salad - passable Croquette Monsieur - tasty Lasagna - horrendous Truth be told we should not have ordered lasagna in a French influenced restaurant, but our girls were insistent. We walked in and were greeted in French - I sighed thinking they spoke French only, and my blank gaze brought about a quick "We speak English" from the waiter. I bet they're tired of us expecting everyone to speak the native language, but I was thankful. We were promptly seated. I ordered a Sleeman - first time I've had that beer - nice bite to it. Ordered off the lunch menu - soup/salad and an entree for what amounted to a very reasonable lunch. Dessert was included but we were in a rush for time, so we didn't get around to that. Had a delicious cream potato soup - strong hint of potato but completely smooth - one of the best soups I've had in a long time. They also brought out several bowls of French bread - sliced baguettes. Nice crispy exterior, buttery soft and warm interior - a very well made bread. Lunch consisted of steak and frites with a salad - my only reservation about this meal was the steak - ordered it medium, came out more of a medium-well, but regardless, it was quite dry. It came with an excellent mustard dipping sauce - tangy but offered just the right bite to offset some of the dryness. Steak was seasoned well though. Fries were also well cooked - nice thin steak cut fries. I'm not a huge salad fan but it was quite good as well. Overall - excellent meal. If I ever head back to Quebec City, I'm going here. read more

For us it was an error, we had for starters a french onion soup...the broth was ok but a little uncrackable...unbreakable bread thing covered with a sprinkle of cheese was floating in the middle of the bowl.... like a lone steal tanker in the middle of a vast ocean.... Ok i'll stop there ... the fajitas were so so but adequate on a plate that was supposed to go piissshhht ... but it was not doing piisshhhhht...
