Pigeon Bagel was pretty good overall. There was a line when I got there so I had to wait outside. They only allow about five people inside at a time, so you just wait until people leave before going in. Once you walk inside though, the smell is amazing. It smells like fresh bread and sweets being made, which is exactly what they do. I ordered a bagel with lox and also grabbed a donut. The bagel was good, although it was a little hard for me, but that could have been because I waited a bit before eating it. The fish on the bagel was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. The donut was a nice little treat too. I will definitely come back again to try another bagel and more items. I like that this is more of a grab and go spot rather than a sit down restaurant. It feels simple, fresh, and worth revisiting.

I traveled back to Pittsburgh for the first time in 5 years. When I lived here, I was surprised to find a dearth of quality bagel places in Squirrel Hill. The Bagel Factory has a long history of issues related to management, and Pigeon Bagels was relatively new when I moved here. I was struck by the quality of the kosher, hand-rolled bagels. Not needing to be toasted, best complemented with Redhawk drip coffee. Nestled next to a supplies studio off Hobart, Pigeon Bagels is there for you. Tasty bagel sandwiches and amazing Jewish pastries. Must get the Rugelach. My vegan wife agreed with me, and she loved her herb tofu schmear. You wait in a line and the inside is limited in space for customers, so most people wait outside. Not an issue. I love the store facade, very Wes Anderson-inspired. There's a cute mural as well. Pigeo Bagels- I missed you.

So hype they still had bagels and no line on a Saturday afternoon! The shop is very small and cute. The staff was nice and they have good coffee from redhawk I believe. I really liked my latte. We got the vegan carrot lox and tofu schmear on bagels and maybe it's because I'm used to NY bagels, but I didn't love the texture of the bagel. The carrot lox was also so astringent I couldn't eat it. It was not good. The bagel was very chewy and not flavorful. I think I definitely need to come back and just get a bagel with jelly and peanut butter or butter. The bagels were definitely so pretty though.

The bagel is unlike any other bagel in the city. The cream cheese is incredible. The line is always very long but I think it's worth it. Staff inside is very very friendly but cashier was very slow and the main contributor to the slow line.

On a visit to Pittsburgh, our eight-year-old daughter was craving a bagel. Yelp brought us here and we're so glad they did. Our daughter loved their plain bagel and plain schmear. My wife ordered the plain bagel with strawberry schmear and I the sesame bagel with fig and honey schmear. The bagel had good texture, but the scmears lacked flavor. Both tasted like plain, which makes me think they accidentally gave us plain. We also ordered a poppy pastry, which wasn't put in our takeout bag. The cinnamon honey latte was tasty! I did enjoy seeing so many people in line. It seems like a true community spot.

Everything Bagel with Garlic Scrape and Blueberry with Plain

Went on a Sunday, about 30-40 minutes wait. Bagels were extremely fresh, saw them steaming when they cut ours open. Got the monthly favor, Blueberry, with regular cream cheese and the everything bagel with garlic scape cream cheese (I think limited). Everything bagel had a nice crisp outside and gave a nice bite. Blueberry was a bit more doughy, had a chew to it instead it tearing off. Just enough blueberry flavor. LOTS of cream cheese in each bagel, was the perfect amount. Staff works quick and the inside is super cozy.

Really 3 1/2 stars Bagel had nice chew & crunch - excellent, top notch. Small hut with line outside, but moves quickly. Less stars for messing up order - plain bagel had schmear (hubs had to scape off) and my chai latte was half full.

    Lox bagel
    Shiva R.

Great bagels - nice crispy exterior with a good chew. Solid spread of cream cheeses and seasonal options. Also a decent amount of vegetarian / vegan options as well. Their coffee is also great and they use a La Marzocco espresso machine. A little pricey - got the lox and a cold brew and with tip it was $20. But worth it for a nice breakfast splurge.

    Classic lox bagel

Was the bagel good? It was edible Was it worth the wait? Not for me Stood in line and overheard others talking about how these are the best bagels ever. The positive reviews had me convinced as well, which is what lead me to make the drive. Not sure I get the hype around this place. It was ok, but nothing to write home about. We stood in line for about 30 minutes on a cold Saturday morning - a seemingly shorter wait than other yelpers have reported. The bagel seemed kind of hard and not very fresh. Not soft at all. My jaw actually popped trying to bite through the sandwich. Street parking is limited. I got lucky and found a spot close by. Service was friendly enough at least. The vegan carrot lox looked delicious, but I got the classic smoked salmon. There is a small wooden "perch" outside the entrance, but otherwise there is no seating inside or outside. Really disappointed as I was expecting much better quality.

    Whitefish salad bagel
    Wallace W.

I haven't had a whitefish salad bagel for years as they are not available in my home state. So when in Pittsburgh, I sought out a place that features them. Pigeon bagel was a bit of a drive but it was fun to see the Squirrel Hill neighborhood as we drove to get our bagels. My wife ordered a plain bagel with a veggie nosh that she really enjoyed. And my whitefish salad on a garlic salt bagel was just what I wanted. The space is cozy and as for the parking, it is tight and there is no seating, so plan to eat in your car. The staff were pleasant and diverse which we liked. So all in all, Pigeon bagels hit all the right points for us and we'd love to try it again given the opportunity.

I'll start with they were good but I don't get the hype. There was a line when I arrived. They weren't out of this world or in my minimal experience, like a NY bagel. Considering size, the bagels I received were small. They felt tiny in my hand? The garlic sea salt was a great flavor! I loved the crunch of the garlic and sea salt. I opted for jalapeño schmear - wasn't super flavorful but maybe my bagel flavor over powered the jalapeño. I took a marble bagel with fig and honey schmear to go for later. I'm not always on this side of town. Again, the bagel felt small in size. This bagel however was more like a NY bagel - soft on the inside with a nice crunch on the outside. I wish I would have eaten that one when it was fresh. They have vegetarian & vegan options which I loved to see on the menu! I can't speak to all of their baked goods but their GF and Vegan Brownies (not pictured) are absolutely delicious. Overall, my experience was great. Service was quick and friendly. The shop is super tiny so you're in and out which I liked. I can't say I would go out of my way to go again but if I'm in the neighborhood & have time to kill I may stumble by again.

Everything bagel w lox and shmear !

Decent everything bagel with lox and da works for about $12. Visiting my son who just moved to Pittsburgh for his medical fellowship training and he had heard great things regarding Pigeon Bagels. The line stretched out the door and down the block (tiny place with some pizza style ovens) in large part due to the fact that there is limited indoor space to select and pay for and consume your food, as well as no seating inside and only a small counter outside. Food was quite good and the hard working and congenial staff were very friendly. We will be back. A dozen bagels is about $25. We liked the non-food social commitment inside and alternative offerings too (see pics for context). Solid place - we will be back for sure ! They need to consider adding scallion cream cheese and offer a pumpernickel and marble everything bagel too ! Just saying.

Everything Bagel with Honey & Fig cream cheese Garlic and Salt Bagel with herb cream cheese
    Maansi S.

Finally got an opportunity to try Pigeon Bagels and I wasn't disappointed!!! The everything bagel with honey and fig had a great balance of sweet and savory and the garlic and salt bagel with the herb cream cheese complemented each other sooo well! I also got an iced coffee and it wasn't terrible, but I've definitely had better coffees elsewhere.

The front has some wicker chairs and tables which are very small. As you move toward the back there are small sitting rooms where you take off your shoes and sit on a padded "floor". The back has some more chairs and tables. Outlets are hard to find. You most likely will share a sitting area as well. One note is, I think they have a wifi limit where only a certain number of people can connect. I tried all night to get a connection and could not for any of my devices, nor could my friend. Overall the ambiance is catered toward chatting rather than studying as the tables are very small and slow or no wifi. I like the night vibes it has though, we need more late night 3rd spaces like this one!! I got a hummus plate and ginger tea. The ginger tea was just okay. The ginger was overpowering in not a good way. It highlighted the spiciness of ginger without letting any type of "tea flavor" through. It tasted more like ginger water. For a tea house, I thought it would have more depth. The hummus platter was very yummy! The pita was warm and the olive oil on the hummus added a nice touch to it. I think I would have enjoyed the experience more had the tables not been as wobbly, the WiFi worked at any point, the tea had a bit more nuance to it, and the cloying smell wasn't there. It is a very good chatting spot for late night meetings ups with great food!

I honestly have not been in the area much lately and was surprised to see its prime location on South Highland in that East Liberty, Shadyside and Friendship corridor. The inside of the shop was packed by the time we got inside so I did not get to see much of it other than the coffee bar and the large selection of baked goods. For my coffee this morning I went with a butter beer cold brew while my wife went with an iced Almond Joy latte. The menu described mine as cold brew with butterscotch syrup and cheesecake sweet cream. My wife's was described as just like the candy bar with dark chocolate and coconut topped with coconut flakes. My coffee actually ended up tasting pretty good. The butterscotch tasted somewhat similar to caramel but the cold brew was definitely the star. It was rich and strong which I always appreciate. The cheesecake sweet cream was also a nice addition as it was sweet like you would expect but also had a bit of tartness that reminded me of actual cheesecake. My wife also enjoyed her coffee and especially liked the combination of chocolate, coconut and coffee flavors. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. My wife and I both enjoyed our drinks and I would definitely be interested in trying some of the pastries next time.
