Dinner at Le Comptoir du Relais at Hotel le Relais Saint Germain turned out to be a great experience. My group of 4 hadn't made any dinner plans, but we stopped in to see if they could accommodate us anyway. Although the dining room was full, they set up a table in a sheltered area outside. It was a drizzly, chilly night, but we were nice and comfy. As soon as a table opened up inside, they moved us there. Not necessary, but even better! Casual, comfortable environment, warm, prompt, and helpful service, nice menu variety, and wonderful food. All 4 of us loved it. If you are a creme brulée and/or foie gras fan, order them. Absolutely fantastic food and friendly service. All the food we had was great and there were several healthy options on the menu. The apple tart at the end was one of my favorite ever apple tarts. I love this place. It's more spacious and fancier since I first came 9 years ago, but the food is still amazing. I got the deboned pigs foot (a dish that astounded me my first time here) and it was outstanding as I remembered. The pork meat was tender and flavorful, and delicately shredded. There were small pieces of the gelatinous connective tissue/tendon which I really enjoy in pigs feet, but much more of the meat. The meat was breaded and fried, and served with some delicious mustard mashed potatoes. The whole thing is outstanding, I'll be dreaming of it until the next time I return to Paris! read more

We were staying at our usual place up the street, the Odeon Hotel by Malone and have walked past Le Comptoir every day on our way to other parts of town but in our last full day in Paris we made a point of having lunch here. We focused on small plates , foie gras, escargot and salad finishing with a cheese sampler, a delicious cote du Rhône. Tight seating but not as bad as later in the day. Helpful and efficient staff. We have been staying at Hotel Relais Saint Germain since 2018. And one of the many reasons are the three restaurants on site, including Le Comptoir. Since the Camdebords sold to new ownership, Le Comptoir has become a dedicated brasserie -- moving away from the gourmet, bistronomy weeknight tasting menu. We had a wonderful meal of faux fillet steak au poivre, croque monsieur and the best floating island I have ever had. And a wonderful bottle of Laurent Perrier Champagne for our last night in Paris. The wine list has been expanded, with many more selections at all price points to choose from. Wonderful, friendly service in a convenient, comfortable room. We had dinner at Le Comptoir du Relais after a long day of visiting the Musee' d'Orsay and Musee' de Rodin. In fact, our Airbnb was caddy corner and so it was a quick walk. We sat outside and to our left was a father and son from Oslo, Norway and to our right was a group of 4 English people from outside of London - truly international. The tables at French bistros tends to be small and round, and so real estate for food is limited. We came pretty hungry from the day and ordered gratin macaroni, onion soup, and escargot. They were all delicious, and it was the first time I had a plate of snails during my trip to France. They were so good! Surprisingly, good! I believe about a dozen of them on a plate, buttery and garlicy but not overly so, and a smear of what seemed to be a pesto sauce. You get a little fork and what could double as surgical forceps to hold on to the shell while you dig out the meat with the fork. The lemon meringue for dessert was the perfect bookend to the meal. Our main meals were also good - I got the beef cheek stew which was hearty and beefy. The gentleman next to us got a deep dish filled with foie gras which he said was good and we joked about his cholesterol. He son gobbled up the steak he ordered. Had such a wonderful lunch there yesterday! My friend and I ordered the scallops on an open shell, escargot, and the chicken Caesar. Delicious! Only downside is how small the tables are outside! The plates are big, so we had a hard time fitting all the food on the tables :/ read more

A friend said it was his favorite in Paris and apparently Anthony Bourdain loved it too. My partner said it was the best Niçoise salad he's ever had and for me it was the service that made it stand out. They were super busy but was attentive, engaging, and on top of it. Folks speak multiple languages and you can feel the energy of Paris night. We dined at around 9pm and were lucky to get a table outside where we could people watch, drink wine, and enjoy the delicious meal. read more

This is the Comptoir restaurant that is next to the Relais St. Germain hotel. It's tiny. So often they have to move the tables to get you in and out of your seat. Just know it's fairly elbow to elbow when crowded. The tile floor is amazing. It's the one that is connected to the hotel inside. So there are two ways you get to eat here... 1) You are a guest of the hotel, in which case daily breakfast is included in your room rate. You must be a guest to eat breakfast here. It's not open to the public. Breakfast isn't fancy, but it's pretty French. You get a bread basket with some beautiful croissants, baguettes and other items. You get some ham and cheese (my husband liked to make little sandwiches, which I am sure is something the French frown upon). There's an assortment of jams and jellies. And then you are offered your choice of coffee, fruit, fruit juice and eggs (soft boiled or I did see someone get like scrambled from the kitchen one morning). It's all fresh and tasty and fine, but after five days with the same breakfast, it got a bit old. I think there ought to be at least a little variety for guests staying more than a day or two. 2) You make dinner reservations. Dinner is open to the public and reservations are recommended. Hotel guests get priority booking, so we did eat here one night. What we had again was just fine. The French onion soup was good but not enough cheese and fairly watery compared to others we had while in France. The waiter said this onion thing was his favorite... it came to the table in a little skillet that looked like it was full of white foam. My husband seemed to like it. The lobster bisque was very good but very rich. And my foie gras was perfect. The food here for dinner is very rich, so prepare your gut. I also saw the oeufs mayonnaise go by and wished I had been more hungry. It looked like a plate of eggs topped with a generous portion of hollandaise sauce. Under normal circumstances, I would have bene licking that plate. Service is always competent and fine. But we also find it to be a little more transactional than warm and welcoming and friendly. read more

This is a small bistro in the Latin Quarters, it is not a fancy place, but it served the best meal we had in Paris. It was recommended by our Versailles tour guide; it is a local joint, we were the only tourist there, menu was all in French.  After we finished eating our meals, I asked for the bill since we had plans to go see the Pantheon and the Louve that evening.  But the lady replied, "slow down, slow down" and walked away for another 5-10 minutes, so after that, it became our joke slogan whenever one of us tries to rush us along. In the future, we might forget the great food we ate here, but we will always remember the "slow down" pace of the French and try to do the same. Souris Agneau - Roasted Lamb Shank with apricot, lots of meat on this dish with some brightness and sweetness.  My grown son loved it. Lievre Royale - French Rabbit dish, when hubby ordered this, the lady explained it is covered with puree celery and blood.  At 45 Euro, they wanted to make sure we will accept it when it is served.  It certainly was different, and we were happy to eat it all up.  Pied Porc - Roasted Pork, semi crunchy crusted, tender and juicy meat on the inside, eaten with complimenting mashed potatoe,s leaf veg and sauce.  Perfect taste and textures. This is a tiny place. The food is great. The servers were very nice and spoke some English. We had 3 main dishes, Escargot, Lamb and seared Tuna. The quality level was great. For dessert we had a poached pear and a rum baba. Those desserts were some of the best I've ever had. My only complaint is that the seating is a little cramped but otherwise this place is first rate! Gaspard was a 5-star server. Wonderful young man. The pea and mint salad was refreshing and delightful. The pate was yummy and filling.

The star of this restaurant is the chef. Ate there two times. Second time service was poor service with chef cooking and serving while other person just chatted or went next door. This location is in the middle of three similar type restaurants with a more formal restaurant on the right and the seafood comptoir on the left. Excellent sauteed duck hearts, small white asparagus which would be nice as they were not so thin, delicious caramelized pork, and great foie gras although it should have been left out as served what seems like straight from the refrigerator. Would be nice if there was a wine menu with prices. Wonderful unique bread that almost tastes like a modified corn bread/bread with great quality butter. The rhubarb strange as it was yellow and not reddish. Mislabeled? Also, very stringy. Would go there again and try other dishes. They would receive five stars if person taking orders was more attentive - I think the chef had problems with her and as saw me sitting there when person taking orders disappeared,he checked the ordering system and found out that she took the order but didn't send it to the kitchen. In all other places I ate, chef did the cooking and not delivering the food so it seems like he was double worked. read more
