I met an old college friend here for lunch and it was amazing. Think small European Bistro off the mall with a great outdoor seating area. The menu was extensive. I had a baguette and salad and friend had a croissant sandwich. Both were pleasantly served by a French lady. Le French Cafe is a wonderful little, highly authentically French spot in Boulder. It literally just opened up last week, so it's brand spanking new! They have the usual crepes, sweet or savory, other baked delights, and, my favorite, Macarons! I ordered a sugar & lemon crepe to go, and it came out extremely quickly. The guys here are so personable; they really welcomed me and my friend. This place brought me right back to the few days I was lucky enough to spend in Paris. The menu was filled with savory and sweet crepes and a ton of sandwiches that looked just divine. It was a busy place for brunch on a Saturday morning but the staff did a great job of being attentive and seating people quickly once a spot opened up. Seriously one of the best cappuccinos I have ever had. It was $4 for a size that was a little larger than a small but not quite a normal medium though I can't regret that purchase because IT WAS SO GOOD. The foam was perfectly fluffy and just enough espresso gave it a strong flavor. I split 2 crepes with a friend, one sweet and one savory. Our savory crepe was filled with chicken, mushrooms and a white cream sauce and we got the sugar sweet crepe. The crepes were thin and didn't overpower the inside contents. I didn't get a chance to try any pastries but they all looked amazing. Looking forward to stopping in to grab a croissant or a macaroon. I just had a late lunch here today and left very satisfied. I ordered the Monte Carlo baguette sandwich, which came with high quality bread, prosciutto, mozzarella, basil, and olive oil. There's an option to order 1/2 sandwich with a side of salad or potatoes. I ordered the whole sandwich, which was a bit too big for me, but I finished it anyway because it was so good! My husband ordered the bacon and mushroom buckwheat crepe (which I took a bite of), and it was pretty savory. Although stuffed, we still decided to order a chocolate croissant to-go, which ended up being super yummy (AKA buttery, flaky, chocolatey). The service is very friendly, and who we think is one of the owners stopped by our table to check that we were well taken care of. I'm a fan! Le French Cafe's exterior is seriously lacking, so it's shocking to me that people actually are able to stumble across it. However, if you do - I am sure you're a fan as much as I am. The interior is so colorful, friendly and authentic feeling. I absolutely love it. You can get coffee and pastries at the counter to go or you can sit down for service - I have done both. I recently dined in and had a really nice lunch experience. The menu is quite long, but everything mirrors what you see if you were in a real French Cafe. The food is simplistic and delicious. I am a big fan of the quiches, salads and baguette sandwiches. My only advice for the owners is to consider rebranding your logo so it matches your wonderful interior and restaurant experience. Your current logo looks like something from a bad t-shirt shop and doesn't do you guys any justice. I would also consider getting a colored awning or something to liven the exterior up. As of now, it doesn't even look like a restaurant! (I would hate to see you go under due to curb appeal.) The food was 4 stars but the service not so much. We entered and sat near the windows. They had both doors open and in no time we had two wasps on the window right at our table. So, we asked if we could move to the other side against the wall and that's when it got confusing. For them. No one seemed to be able to figure out who was serving us. One person brought water, a different person took our order and a third delivered the food. No one came to refill our drinks or even check on us. We had to ask for our check and it's a good thing I looked closely because it was the wrong check. So disappointed! I'd been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally went in for lunch. I ordered a pistachio latte from their daily menu (which they were out of) and a Cannois Les Toasted (basically an eggplant panini) with fries. The bread was slightly warm, the dough inside was soggy, all the ingredients inside were cold, and never got the fries on the side! I think they had assembled the sandwich the night before and just popped it in the toaster for a couple of minutes before serving it for $16.50! If you go, just order a bakery item and leave. The other menu items are questionable in quality. The only reason I gave it two stars is because they have a nice outdoor patio. read more

Excellent crepes. If I was in town longer I would have eaten there everyday. We ate the Forestiere, Campagnarde, and Alyse. The first two were in a creamy sauce and both were similar yet different. They were so good I wouldn't be able to pick between them. To finish up we had the Nutella one which was pretty standard - it's the only crepe everyone can make so it did not disappoint either. We have been long time Big Fans of Le French Cafe for breakfast and lunch, we are there weekly at least. The owners are from Northern France and obviously know their stuff! So many great food choices for every mood and the owners and staff are so friendly, knowledgable and welcoming. We love the patio in the summer. It's our favorite restaurant in Boulder. Last night we had dinner for the first time, they have just recently begun to serve dinner. Do Not Miss This!!! We visit France annually and truly our dinner rivaled any meal we have had there. The mussels were perfection, as was the raclette, the steak frites were the best we've ever had. The duck confit salad was also wonderful. I went to Boulder over spring break with some friends. While we were there I wanted to go to a café. I'm not sure how I happened upon Le French Cafe, but I can confidently say I'm so glad I went. Not only did the menu have everything I could imagine (I definitely left unfulfilled, without trying all I had wanted to), but the atmosphere was also an experience of its own. You could hear the owners speaking French, see people enjoying each other's company, and smell the fresh sandwiches and sweet Crêpes. I got the Parigot, which is similar to the classic French Jambon-Beurre, and a Pain au Chocolat. Both were absolutely amazing. I actually cried when I took my first bite of the Parigot. My friends thought I was crazy, but it brought me back to my many vacations in France, some of which were fairly recent. I closed my eyes and felt as though I was there. I highly recommend Le French Cafe to anyone who is in Boulder and promise you will not be disappointed. This café has the ability to evoke so many emotions. This is our new favorite place for a late lunch! I've always been a fan of savory crepes and the crepes at Le French Cafe are excellent. The side salad that comes with the crepe is a perfect match. If we are really hungry, we'll split a side of the potatoes. So yummy! The SO and I have tried a number of offerings, and our favorites are the Basquaise for me and the Paysanne for him. We've also had the Quiche aux Poireaux and it was quite good. So much more on the menu to try (omelettes, sandwhiches, salads) but it's hard to pass up the crepes. I had the lobster roll, and my husband had the crayfish pasta, and both exceeded our expectations! They offer wine, cider and beer, and everything else on the menu looked so good (duck confit, beef Burgundy, Lamb lollipops to name a few) We will definitely be frequenting Le French Cafe for dinner. French in name only. French inspired but without the dedication to quality ingredients and great tasting food. We asked if the milk was at least Rgbh free and was told the brand name was Value. So, I am guessing they get their food from Sam's Club. The cappuccino and latte were mediocre at best. The quiche was pretty bland and the potatoes were frozen and just reheated in the oven slightly. Bleh! The Savoyarde crepe was not very flavorful and the salad had canned corn in it (Yay! GMOs for breakfast) and the slight dribble of dressing was not even tossed with the greens. The over easy eggs were brown and crispy on the edges. The chocolate pastry would be considered severely undercooked in France and was overly sweet and slightly cooler than room temperature. I had high hopes when I walked in and saw the cookbooks from Daniel Boulud and Bouchon Bakery on the bookshelves but apparently they are for decoration only and no one who works there has actually read them. We must have been there on an off day...my son and I were not impressed with the food at all. I had the croque madam, which was mushy and just tasted overwhelmingly of cheese--otherwise bland. And the salad that came with it was not fresh looking, with chopped strips of lettuce that were wilted and brown, corn and cucumber. Not at all what I expected. My son's salmon sandwich came on a baguette that was soggy--not crispy as a baguette should be. Service was friendly but a tad slow because they were busy. I have been in several times now and have had some meals as well as taken out various pastries and other dessert treats. The owners and staff are terrific. It's a real French family run place. It's just a neighbohhood cafe and bakery with a small selection of their specialties, not a polished bistro or full boulangerie. Accept what they have chosen to do. I also suspect they might not have run a restaurant before because there have been a few oversights seemingly due to lack of experience. All of the croissant based pastries are wonderful. They are crispy and golden brown, my preference. They do not have every flavor all the time. Just take what they have when you are in front of the case. It will be good. That goes for the macarons too. Lots of flavors, freshly made. The traditional European flavors are my faves. But I'm sure there will be customers who want that pumpkin spice batch this time of year. For a treat, I thought the Norman Love chocolate truffles were a good choice. Freshly made in FL by a high quality, French trained American chocolatier, in a wide array of pretty pieces of great flavors, though pricey. The meals I've tried have been OK. Not the most consistent yet. I love crepes, have had them from all sorts of places, from carts to high end restauarants and both savory and dessert. Most places find it hard to get them right when serving a lot of people because they can be not warm enough if made ahead of an order or under cooked by rushing or a delay in serving a group in unison because of a single cooker. In general, if it comes out really fast and only the center is warm where the hot filling is, it was made before order, if the whole thing is nicely warm and takes a few minutes more, it's done more timely, if it's a bit wet inside, it was rushed. I've had a bit of all these experiences here as well as elsewhere. Just expect it in small places and it won't deter me at this point. If ordering a savory crepe, check out a menu item that includes some veggie or greens with meat and/or cheese as I found the meat and cheese option I tried, a bit heavy. The potato side was rather bland and dry. The French onion soup was very good but the onions a little undercooked, still with some crunch rather than thoroughly carmelized, my preference. Their beef broth is excellent. I make my own soup completely from scratch, including the beef broth and I've tried many in restaurants. I usually put a smaller amount of bread on the top, my preferred balance for the cheese and broth to shine through. I've seen the baguette sandwiches and salad options and they look lovely but I have not had either yet. Next visit, I'll try. They are a wonderful addition to a neighborhood shopping center with other family offerings nearby. Plenty of parking, especially if you park on the north side of the building facing towards McGuckins and walk around on the sidewalk, during their busy lunchtime. They are in the cluster with Great Harvest Bread, Rincon Argentino and Woodgrain Bagels but they do not have as good a view from either Arapahoe or Folsom. And contrary to the Yelp page posting, I'd say it is good for groups and kids. When I was there the last time, they had pushed together some of their smaller cafe tables to make room for what looked liked a midday book group of about 6-8 women. I've also seen parents with small kids and the owner was quite friendly and attentive. If you speak French certainly let Agnes know, she's happy to converse with you. read more

I'm in love with the macaroons here! I find myself venturing over regularly when I get groceries from Sprouts. I can't resist. Baked in house and always fresh! While I've never ordered anything other than macaroons, or pastries (which are also delicious), I've seen some of the food being brought to tables. It all looks really good. I avoided coming here because of the cheesy name... I have to say, I didn't believe it would be authentic French food, and I was wrong! Absolutely fantastic. If you miss those cute and eclectic Parisian cafes, you'll love it here. The food is excellent quality with enormous portions. I got potato and leek quiche and it was amazing. The lox sandwich we got was piled with lox and fresh vegetables. I haven't been excited about a new place in Boulder in years, and Le French Cafe has changed that. The owner came around and made sure everything was to our liking, and she is actually from France, which would explain why everything was spot on. I can't wait to return. Expect to spend $11-15 a person. Parking is a little tough in this area if you come at a busy time. read more
