What a wonderful addition to the Boulder cafe scene. The energy in this place is bright and happy, matching the decor quite nicely. Frankly, I don't know of a better way to perk up first thing in the morning than dropping by Le French Cafe for breakfast. Le French Cafe really delivers on the taste of the food. I ordered a crepe with cheese, bacon, and mushroom with a side salad. The crepe was so rich, but I didn't feel weighed down at all after the meal. Just very satisfied. Oh so satisfied. The side salad had the usual lettuce, cherry tomatoes, corn, and red onion, along with half of an artichoke heart! My husband ordered a ham and cheese croissant that he enthusiastically proclaimed "really good." We also split a chocolate croissant, which was fresh and had a bit of a crisp to the top layer of the croissant. I could eat a dozen of those if given the chance. The coffee and espresso here is made with French roast beans, which means strong and slightly burnt. While I usually prefer the light roast espresso in my lattes, the French roast espresso in my latte kept in theme with the cafe. This is a really cute place for a family breakfast/ brunch or a place to get some work done. There's also an outdoor dining area for when the weather cooperates, which I'm really excited about. I mean, enjoying French food al fresco?! Sign me up. I'll be coming back to try out some of the other crepes, both savory and sweet. More like 3 1/2 stars. Judging from the reviews Le French Cafe seems popular; so its fans will be excited to know that this breakfast and lunch spot now serves dinner Thursday-Saturday until 8pm. I went with a few friends recently and the food was good, the staff friendly and welcoming (although could be more attentive), the atmosphere cheerful and relaxed. We had a pleasant dinner but I am surprised at the high prices. My duck confit salad, was yummy and the portion very generous but not exactly a bargain at $24. Dessert, a Paris-Brest was $12 (that's $15 when you add tax and tip!). That pastry was good but was it worth the price? I don't think so even if I love the idea that I can get a French pastry in Boulder, I've had much better in France (for a third of the price). It's also interesting to note that this dessert was not made onsite, but by La Belle French bakery based in Denver; it might taste better when totally fresh. I had a nice enough dinner in a pleasant atmosphere, but my bill came to $60 (including tax and 20% tip) for a 1/2 bottle of cider, a yummy salad and an okay dessert. My mom and I are here on a mini vacation and we decided to try this cafe for brunch. We each ordered the French Onion soup and split a ham, Swiss and butter sandwich (which came with a salad). The French Onion Soup was hands down the best we have ever had. Perfect! The sandwich was also excellent with the bread being the star. The salad was just okay. We just were not big fans of the dressing. But we were too full on soup and sandwich to have much room for salad. The cafe is super cute and the staff was lovely. Our waitress was attentive and a lovely Scottish man behind the counter took the time to chit chat with my mom who likes to talk (too much at times) to strangers. The said they only sweep once per day. I presume that's for pandemic purposes. People, get a crumber. Or a mop. You can't tell me the only way to prevent the virus from spreading is to not clean up. We were unexpectedly in Boulder on a road trip and didn't want pizza, burgers or other traditional food. They recently opened for dinner and are we so happy they did. The food is delicious and the service great. Agnes and her husband from France have carved a little slice of France in Boulder. We had the bistro salads with tuna and salmon! Excellent! Food - Atmosphere - (zero stars) The food was amazing, our first time there, and we chose it for our special 3-generation Mother's Day brunch. BUT, it was 52° in Boulder at noon today and while I get it that they keep the doors open to allow for fresh air, but when it's THAT COLD outside, TURN THE HEAT ON INSIDE!! Not only were we very uncomfortably cold (especially my kids and elderly parents) but our food was already cold when it got to the table and honestly, cold potatoes and cold Omelettes are the worst (except the flavor was still great...can't imagine how much better it would have been of it was at least warm and not cold)...it was so cold that butter was impossible to spread on the baguette. So, my advice, either they learn to keep the place at 65° or warmer by whatever means possible, or only visit when it's ar least 70° out... read more

I love this place and the atmosphere. You can tell the owner and staff love making the food and pastries here. A friend and I ate here for lunch last week and ordered the Carnivore and the Niçoise. Both came out fantastic with large portions of fresh vegetables and tasty dressings. It was packed for lunch but they have plenty of seats, and we were never rushed out of there. Wish I could give this place more than 5 stars! The owner Agnes is behind the counter and also comes by all the tables to share her positivity and love for their food. Her husband/co-owner, Quentin, works in the back preparing the food. They both have a loving and warm personality that just makes the whole experience even better. Agnes came over many times to interact with our toddler. They played peek-a-boo, gave each other hugs, and laughed together. She brought over puzzles and legos to play with. You can really tell Agnes loves what she does. Food is delicious. We ordered the crepes, scrambled eggs, fries and almond croissants. Their cappuccinos are delicious. They also have hot tea. Very French for sure. Service is on a whim, not to be confused with whimsical, also quite French. If the restaurant is seated at capacity, it may be a while before you're approached by someone from the waitstaff, so bring something to read. The food leans toward the vegan/vegetarian, which is nice when you need to detox after not eating as well as you should. There's so many other breakfast/lunch/brunch options that offer the greasy spoon classics. It's nice to eat something refreshing every so often, if you dare. Parking and seating are limited, especially if you're part of a large group. Personally, I'm a huge fan of Le Peep. Their service is much better and their menu is more approachable. They are experts and a family business truly interested in your visits( and TRUST ME it will be VISITS ) - we visited twice in the first 24 hours of knowing about this place. Everything baked was decadent and almost sinful; crisp where you need it to be crisp, the sweetest where it needed to be sweet. The breakfast was likewise delicious and devious with a sexy, bubbly layer or PERFECTLY roasted cheese on my sandwich.
