Matcha Latte & Strawberry Lychee Matcha Latte
    Ashley J.

You can never go wrong with Third Culture! Their Strawberry Lychee Matcha Latte is my go-to and it's so good every time! This was my first time at the Walnut Creek location and it was no different. They didn't have as many seasonal flavors as some of the other locations though, I've noticed. The service was great and there's some indoor and outdoor seating (unfortunately not enough if you're looking to do work or study). If you're in the area and craving matcha, this is a great place to try!

Their mochi donuts here are very good and delicious. They come in a variety of wonderful flavors: mango passion fruit, strawberry, dark chocolate, ube coconut, guava, raspberry lychee, lemon, black sesame. My favorites so far are Ube coconut and guava! I've had other mochi donuts but none compare to this, can really taste the flavors from their donut here. Very cute, clean store with their own parking lot which is great especially downtown Walnut Creek. They'll put them in a cute box that's awesome for gift giving ideas. Can't wait to come back and try the other flavors.

Third Culture Bakery in Walnut Creek offers a selection of pastries and drinks with a vibrant exterior. I tried the mango passionfruit mochi donut and the Jouraku matcha latte. The donut had a nice chew and was probably the most mochi-like donut I've had. The mango passionfruit glaze added a bright, fruity sweetness that balanced nicely with the texture. The Jouraku matcha latte, though freshly whisked, didn't stand out as much. The matcha flavor was milder than I expected, and the drink leaned a bit too heavy on the milk for my taste. The service, however, was exceptional! The staff member who took my order was incredibly kind and engaged everyone in friendly, genuine conversation, making the experience feel warm and welcoming.

Visiting my daughter's workplace this morning. I asked her what would they like for a treat? We had brought over Nisshodo chi chi dango from Honolulu to share, and she exclaimed that Third Culture Bakery is known for its delectable mochi muffins and donuts. So off we went to Third Culture Bakery in Walnut Creek. Walking into the quaint bakery, you immediately find yourself smelling the fresh baked goods. The bakery is small, clean, and full of bright decor. Service is excellent and friendly here. The two ladies assisting us are adorable and helpful. Smiles all around. The price point is @$3.50 for the mochi donuts and @$3.50 -$5.00 for the mochi muffins. There was a bread pudding mochi banana pudding special at $6.88. I picked up the banana bread mochi pudding and lemon meringue mochi muffin for ourselves to try later. My daughter's co-workers are happy!

Consistently delicious matcha drinks. Service is very friendly! I prefer this location over the Berkeley one because of the great service. The inside is small with a few seats and it's pretty easy to find a spot for parking.

Ordered the strawberry lychee iced matcha and it was pretty good! They hand whisked the matcha right in front of me which was fun to see and the matcha had a rich umami flavor. Strawberry lychee added sweetness and was a unique flavor combo. The place is small with only a couple tables and chairs. They sell a bit of merch and the vibe inside is really cool. Quick and friendly service! Would def come back to grab the guava matcha next!

Came here at 3 on a Friday and not much mochi donuts were left. They close at 4pm. Also, no hot drinks available since steamer is broken. Got the iced caramel matcha latte and a mochi muffin banana bread pudding . The bread pudding had no banana taste. It looked sweet but it wasn't sweet enough. I prefer mochi donut more. The drink was ok but I really wanted a hot drink. I like the Berkeley location more since they still had plenty of mochi donuts 5 min before closing on a Saturday.

Third Culture Bakery makes the best mochi muffins and my favorite matcha lattes! I have been a loyal customer for some time now, and first tried Third Culture at their Berkeley location when I lived in Oakland a few years ago. I'm SO glad there is a Walnut Creek location! The mochi muffins are incredible. I love the mix of textures with the slightly crunchy outside and perfectly chewy inside. The Ube Mochi Muffin is a must try and my favorite flavor. I also like pairing the Original Mochi Muffin with a flavored roasted matcha latte. The butter mochi donuts are also quite good, but if you only want one treat and are deciding between the muffins and the donuts, get the muffin. I like the mango passionfruit donut and the ube coconut donut. I've also enjoyed the yuzu lemon donut. As for the drinks, I highly recommend the roasted matcha lattes! My favorite is the strawberry lychee roasted matcha latte with oat milk. I recently tried the seasonal guava matcha latte with oat milk and it was delicious! Service is always a delight here. There are a few indoor seats and outdoor seats, but best for 1-2 people and not for groups. There is usually parking in the lot directly next to the bakery.

1ST time visiting @ThirdCulture We ordered both of their iced drinks, Strawberry Lychee Matcha & Roasted Matcha. If you couldn't tell, we're matcha missys. Place was super clean, well-styled with pink holographic accents to their logo and walls indoors and on the front door. Restrooms not avail. Dog friendly seating outside if you came to stay and chat with WiFi avail. Merch wall was super cute. They sell ceremonial grade matcha and I've been hunting for some in person at local cafes as to not pay taxes on a delivery. However, they matcha was being sold in a pouch bag, which isn't my style. I prefer in a tin as it keeps it fresher from my POV so I did not indulge myself. Products: Iced Roasted Matcha Latte - I tasted my friends and you definitely can taste that hojicha as advertised. They sell this powder as well so I'm assuming it must be popular. We both liked it. If you enjoy that earthier not too sweet taste, this is your drink. 4/5 IMO Iced Strawberry Lychee Matcha - too sweet for me Ya'll! From now on I'll be asking about adjusting sweetness not just at boba shops but at cafes too; hoping the staff are familiar enough with their drinks to gauge it well to us 1st timers @TC. Anywho, I loved what they were trying to do with the flavors. Their strawberry mix in definitely has to be a syrup or the lychee syrup has too much sugar in it. But overall, it was a pleasant drink. I wouldn't say I'd be back for it repeatedly even if the location was closer and more accessible to me. They get bonus points for hand whisking all their matcha drinks per drink AS THEY SHOULD and all other cafes 4/5. I did see a dad and young toddler come in to buy a bunch of mochi donuts which apparently is their speciality though. I wasn't super interested due to my carb intake but ya. Definitely try it out if it's your thing.

The matcha exceeded my expectations! If you need a good ceremonial matcha to keep you going while you shop, this is the place to stop at! I got it lightly sweetened, and found it is the perfect amount of sweet for my preference. I've heard about this place for years because of their mochi pastries (at the time, mochi anything was not as popular), and haven't gotten a chance to try it. The Ube mochi muffin was delicious!

Go to place for matcha in the area!! It is hard to find good matcha nowadays, but third culture is always consistent and serves good quality matcha. They always have the sweetest cashiers/baristas as well! I would recommend the mochi muffins :-) They are dense and chewy and not too sweet (original flavor). I have tried the mochi donuts as well, but the muffins are a bit yummier. The store is a bit small, but they have outdoor seating too. Loveee third culture!

Their mochis were unique and really good. Their Matcha drinks were solid. All in all, I would recommend this cafe. It's tucked in an area that not easy accessible and can only get in one way. I parked at the Ross parking lot and just walked there.

    Guava Matcha Latte
    Janet N.

Third Culture had been on my "to visit" list for a long time coming since its popularity of mochi muffins and donuts years and years ago. I'm hardly in the area and was ecstatic to finally try it! Located on the corner of S California Blvd the bakery is easy to get to with plenty of parking in the lot as well as paid street parking. I ordered the Guava Matcha Latte with oat milk and got the Guava Cheesecake and Yuzu Mochi Donuts. Their matcha is hand whisked to order and was a vibrant green color, tasted delicious and loved the flavor of the guava paired with it. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the texture, not sure if it's the viscosity of the oat milk but it was a bit too thick for my liking. I typically get oat milk and haven't come across that issue before. I even mixed the drink and let the ice melt completely, but found the texture a bit too viscous for my liking. I still finished my drink, because no matcha should go to waste! Especially with the high demand for it. The mochi donut flavors were recommended by the staff and tasted delicious! Didn't quite get the cheesecake part of the Guava cheesecake but tasted spot on and the Yuzu was bright and citrusy. The mochi donuts were perfectly chewy, sweet, sticky and very reminiscent of butter mochi we all have grown to love. Loved the recommendations given by the staff and the drink was made quickly and to order. There is some seating indoors and outdoors. Not the best for larger groups but there are chairs to share a table inside and some outdoors, most tables are best for pairs or solo. Definitely will be back to try more of their matcha offerings, perhaps with regular milk. I really wish they were open earlier to get my matcha fix before work. Can't wait to be back!

He ended up ordering an iced turkish coffee with milk. It was hot outside, so I went in to grab some water. Their water container was not only basically empty, but it was also warm. Gross. I decided I would rather pay for a cup of iced water (because in a lot of the places I've been to, they charge for it). I go up to the register and ask if I can buy a plastic cup with iced water. The cashier/pastry cook/barista says, "Water?" and I repeat that I want a cup with iced water. She says, "Ice?" and I say, yes please. She goes right next to where the other barista is and she grab a scoop full of ice and gestures it to me. I'm kind of confused by this point, and it seems like the other barista is too. And then I ask again if I can get it in a plastic cup. Then the other barista points to one of the paper cups next to the warm water container, but then I ask them again if I could please get it in one of the cups they have, (because I wanted to be able to carry it around with a lid). That's when the other barista says, "You're doing too much, but okay." And she passes me the plastic cup, without a lid, acting as if I just asked her for her whole paycheck and half the drinks on the menu. I'm definitely annoyed at this point, but I don't care enough to be rude back. Then she says she's going to fill up the container. So she goes, gets the container to fill it up, and I'm there waiting with my friend in the store. It looks like she's the only barista there, so it keeps taking a little longer for the drink(s) to come out. When she finally comes back with a semi-filled container, I'm conversing with my friend, when she turns sharply and says, "Were you going to order anything??" in a pretty snappy tone, as if I'm only worth giving a plastic cup to if I'm going to order more. We reply that we already ordered, and she goes back to finish drinks that a previous customer had ordered. It's two drinks, and I assume that it took about 12-15 minutes for them to receive what looked like small hot drinks. I say this because these customers were sitting there well before my friend and I arrived, took time to order, and then were waiting for our drinks. After that, we're still waiting while she goes to take orders, and that's when the cashier/pastry cook/barista woman finishes my friends drink... after having stood there FOREVER while the other barista was going in circles. I was shocked to say the least, kind of amused, but also disappointed because these customers drink was about 8-9 bucks, the wait time was about 8-10 minutes, and the drink was disgusting. Actually insane. I don't recommend this place whatsoever. Place looks mid, service was abominable, and the workers look like they hate each other and anyone who asks for a plastic cup with iced water. Do better, and preferably give us back our money for the nasty drink+attitude combo.

Before we got deep into our drive, we wanted to stop for some coffee, and this spot happened to be open and on our way. We're not super familiar with coffee in the Bay Area, and for most of our trip we hadn't chosen great shops to visit. Panama Bay, however, really surprised us. A lot about this spot felt unassuming to us. It's a small cottage on the corner that stands out from the taller, more modern apartment buildings around it. There's not much space indoors. All of their seating is outdoors, located next to their outdoor pickup window. It's a little more offbeat than your average coffee spot, but it's really charming. The great service was one of the first things I noticed. Our two baristas were very friendly, chatting with us about our trip, and giving menu recommendations. All of this was greatly appreciated, especially since their menu has many options. They had an extensive list of syrup flavors, lattes, pour over coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. I grabbed a banana latte, and breakfast sandwich. The coffee was flavorful, and the sandwich has the best chipotle mayo. My partner tried the Mayan pour over, and he really loved his drink. Everything that we ordered was fantastic, and the friendly baristas really made our visit. This was easily the best coffee spot we visited during our trip I definitely recommend dropping by this spot if you're nearby, and I'll definitely be back in the future if I'm ever back up north.

I had the cold cut bánh mì and an iced coffee. I gave half of my sandwich to my brother, and he gave me half of his grilled chicken bánh mì in return. Both sandwiches were delicious! The baguette was excellent. It was crispy on the outside and soft and spongy on the inside. Thuy told me later on that she gets them from Duc Huong Sandwiches, a famed Vietnamese sandwich chain in San Jose. The homemade pâté, cold cuts, and grilled chicken were all delicious, and the produce was very fresh. The iced coffee was very good as well. We chatted with Thuy extensively before and after our meal. She told us she was a banker prior to opening this café. From our conversation, I could tell she takes pride in her work. We were all very impressed by her demeanor and business acumen. Should you find yourself in downtown Walnut Creek, do yourself a favor and give this place a try. I ordered a Vietnamese coffee + banana milk. I enjoyed it but wouldn't order it again. I think I would just get regular shots of espresso + the banana milk. The inside of the coffee shop is very cozy. They had a few tables and barstools if you need to sit down. They also have a variety of food options.
