I am pretty local to Walnut Creek, and a matcha lover, yet I never had third culture until a few weeks ago! In order to find good matcha I usually have to go out to Berkeley or SF but decided to give this spot a try considering my friend was visiting from Oakland. Upon arrival, I appreciated the parking available for customers. However after noticing some workers were cleaning up, we quickly realized we had actually came ten minutes before closing! We felt so bad so we rushed in to place our order as quickly as we could. We noticed as one of the workers were getting ready to close the main door, she was a bit rude to the other worker seemingly about doing other closing tasks. We overlooked this but were glad the other kind worker welcomed us in. I ordered mango matcha and my friend ordered a strawberry matcha which were great choices! However, I was glad I chose mango! I think their recipe definitely is better than other competing matcha spots in the area. As we waited for our drinks we noticed the cute sign they had! Definitely a nice touch to the shops ambiance. As we were getting ready to leave, the kind worker who took our order even asked us if we wanted any of their leftover pastries! We chatted and she mentioned how they were closing for a week long summer break. My friend and I picked pastries based on how they looked, and she even proceeded to tell us a bit about the flavors they had. I've been a regular customer at Third Culture whenever I'm in Walnut Creek, but after my most recent visit, I won't be returning. I ordered a matcha Americano, and the cashier corrected me by saying, "You can just say matcha neat." That was unnecessary, but I brushed it off. While I was waiting for my drink, she turned to her coworker and said, "I can't stand matcha neat. It tastes like chalk." Whether she intended it or not, making that comment right in front of a customer who had just ordered that exact drink was incredibly unprofessional and rude. It made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. The drink itself wasn't the issue--it was the lack of courtesy and respect. Customer service matters, and this interaction completely changed my impression of a place I used to enjoy visiting. That said, i excitedly walk into 3rd Culture, order Matcha and just water; I don't want sweetener, milk, creme, sugar; nothing added... I tip 20% then ask the girl who took my order if she could simply pour the matcha directly into my stainless steel Yeti cup while reaching out to hand it to her...She looks at me like I asked for the meaning of life and then looked at my pristinely, clean, empty Yeti and with both her hands up like it was some horrific, science experiment said: "I cannot touch your cup. I will pour your drink into a cup and you can pour it in yourself" ...i believe that's what she said as it was hard to hear as she mumbled under a face mask but the non-verbal was pronounced...I kindly replied, "hey I'm just trying to avoid plastic, and It'll save one of your cups from being used, could you just pour it in directly" ((into my yeti) at this point, another customer is standing there listening, giggling and the girl reiterated "I cannot do that" in the most serious tone sounding like it was a life or death matter...not wanting to make a spectacle, I acquiesced and watched her pour the heated water into a plastic cup of water, added ice, water and handed to me. I couldn't help but be petty while I instantly then poured it into my cup. Customer who was listening , laughing said "hey I understand, you tried" Annoying thing is when heated liquid hits plastic, that's when the microplastics get unleashed... This place is so consistent with their mochi products, whether it's the muffins or donuts! I've loved every flavor I've tried, and I finally gave their matcha latte a try--it was the perfect sweetness and wasn't too milky or watery, even after the ice melted a bit. I had bookmarked Third Culture Bakery and finally got to try it. Around the corner from the shop there is plenty of free parking. It's a smaller shop, but very cute! Service was very friendly. They do sell some company merch here. We ordered the jouraku matcha latte with oat milk. We also ordered several of their bakery items including a guava donut, buko pandan donut, mochi banana pudding, and black sesame mochi muffin. I think the donuts are the star here! They are soft and chewy, not too sweet. The flavors are pretty accurate as well for the donuts. The mochi banana pudding was unique, and enjoyable! They did recommend heating up for 1 minute, but you can probably get away with much less time than that. The black sesame mochi muffin was pretty average. The jouraku matcha latte was average; couldn't really taste much of the matcha notes, but it had more matcha flavor than some other cafes. Never a bad time at Third Culture... I've been to the other locations and this one is always my go-to since it is closer to my parents' house when I'm visiting. The mochi items are so yummy and crave-able! I look forward to swinging by every time I am in the Bay Area. The matcha drinks are always on point, as well. My fav was when they had a guava lychee matcha latte, I still think about it from time to time! My recent trip here, they had a strawberry lychee matcha latte, which was just as good - however, it was harder to detect the lychee notes. (I did also ask for less sweet, but I always do that everywhere I go!) I had some self-control this day and only got the black sesame muffin and the ube coconut meringue muffin (which was less meringue-esque and more so just a whipped top and they used those flame things to toast the top a bit) but the actual mochi muffin was still very good. Their mochi donuts here are very good and delicious. They come in a variety of wonderful flavors: mango passion fruit, strawberry, dark chocolate, ube coconut, guava, raspberry lychee, lemon, black sesame. My favorites so far are Ube coconut and guava! I've had other mochi donuts but none compare to this, can really taste the flavors from their donut here. Visiting my daughter's workplace this morning. I asked her what would they like for a treat? We had brought over Nisshodo chi chi dango from Honolulu to share, and she exclaimed that Third Culture Bakery is known for its delectable mochi muffins and donuts. So off we went to Third Culture Bakery in Walnut Creek. Walking into the quaint bakery, you immediately find yourself smelling the fresh baked goods. The bakery is small, clean, and full of bright decor. Service is excellent and friendly here. The two ladies assisting us are adorable and helpful. Smiles all around. The price point is @$3.50 for the mochi donuts and @$3.50 -$5.00 for the mochi muffins. There was a bread pudding mochi banana pudding special at $6.88. I hate to write this review because I've been a supporter and frequent customer of Third Culture since they moved to Walnut Creek a few years ago. Their service kind of sucks. I'm not waiting more than 10 minutes while their employees peacefully stand around and refuse to take orders. This has honestly happened every visit, but I've had enough today. Having experienced many of their seasonal drinks, I'm often like "did these people even try their own drinks". Their year-round menu is lacking, and their lychee drink does not hold up to other new matcha store openings. If they want to stick around with their prices and terrible customer service, they seriously need to step it up. Workers are rude and unkind, they look disengaged and so bored. Best matcha and roasted matcha in the bay. I love the seasonal drinks/flavors. I come here at least once a month. They have an online phone number discount program. You have to eat the muffin warmed up. It is just spectacular. They have 3 tables in side but I usually just grab and go. For the quality of drinks, it is pretty affordable. I have been a loyal customer for some time now, and first tried Third Culture at their Berkeley location when I lived in Oakland a few years ago. I'm SO glad there is a Walnut Creek location! The mochi muffins are incredible. I love the mix of textures with the slightly crunchy outside and perfectly chewy inside. The Ube Mochi Muffin is a must try and my favorite flavor. I also like pairing the Original Mochi Muffin with a flavored roasted matcha latte. The butter mochi donuts are also quite good, but if you only want one treat and are deciding between the muffins and the donuts, get the muffin. I like the mango passionfruit donut and the ube coconut donut. I've also enjoyed the yuzu lemon donut. As for the drinks, I highly recommend the roasted matcha lattes! Found this place on Yelp since I had a matcha craving. Not easy to find, but it's located in front of the Cole building. With a small lot out front. I was happily greeted by a super cute guy with fusia hair and sassy:) Not only did he patiently answer all of my questions and sugar intake, but he also guided me through the drinks and made my matcha light in sugar but still strong in strawberry and lychee flavors. Third Culture had been on my "to visit" list for a long time coming since its popularity of mochi muffins and donuts years and years ago. I'm hardly in the area and was ecstatic to finally try it! Located on the corner of S California Blvd the bakery is easy to get to with plenty of parking in the lot as well as paid street parking. I ordered the Guava Matcha Latte with oat milk and got the Guava Cheesecake and Yuzu Mochi Donuts. Their matcha is hand whisked to order and was a vibrant green color, tasted delicious and loved the flavor of the guava paired with it. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the texture, not sure if it's the viscosity of the oat milk but it was a bit too thick for my liking. I typically get oat milk and haven't come across that issue before. I even mixed the drink and let the ice melt completely, but found the texture a bit too viscous for my liking. I still finished my drink, because no matcha should go to waste! Especially with the high demand for it. The mochi donut flavors were recommended by the staff and tasted delicious! Didn't quite get the cheesecake part of the Guava cheesecake but tasted spot on and the Yuzu was bright and citrusy. The mochi donuts were perfectly chewy, sweet, sticky and very reminiscent of butter mochi we all have grown to love. Loved the recommendations given by the staff and the drink was made quickly and to order. There is some seating indoors and outdoors. Not the best for larger groups but there are chairs to share a table inside and some outdoors, most tables are best for pairs or solo. A very low key store compared to the Berkeley location. Arriving close to 9:15am the traffic flow is consistent. Orders: Strawberry Lychee Coffee-strawberry puree is added but I really don't taste the lychee. This combination while unique, really isn't to my liking. Hence, I wouldn't re-order it. Carmel Latte-I am trying to reduce my sugar intake & was suggested to add half the Carmel syrup, but again it was just a little short of giving me the Carmel taste, so I had to ask for more syrup. There wasn't a strong coffee brew either. So drinks here are not to my liking. Chili Oil Muffin-$1 proceed will support Palisade fires & this was a very unique muffin that I enjoyed. The top had an excellent crisp to it & the inside was filled with chili oil. The fragrant aromatic smell of the chili oil made it tantalizing. Glad I had a chance to try this. The woman working the counter mentioned they would get more the next morning so we came back and sure enough they were fully stocked. The staff is friendly and easy going. The space is very small but still has an indoor lounge and three tables outside. I love that they're dog friendly with treats at the register. This is the third time our online order has been canceled by this store without any explanation. After three failed attempts to place an order, we called to confirm that they were open, and they assured us that they were. However, when we asked why our orders kept getting canceled, the employee we spoke with simply stated that they were busy with catering orders and offered no further explanation. If the store is unable or unwilling to fulfill online orders, it raises the question of why they continue to accept orders through DoorDash and Uber Eats. We also asked when they would be able to start accepting online orders again. Initially, we were told "in a few minutes," but moments later that changed to "about an hour," and then to "I'm not too sure." The inconsistent answers only added to our frustration. Unfortunately, experiences like this have discouraged us from visiting more often. My mom has also had a negative experience in person, describing the staff as unaccommodating and giving the impression that they did not want to be there. It's especially disappointing because I genuinely enjoy their matcha and would love to continue supporting this business. I heard of Third Culture Bakery many times before from friends or from a boba shop that sold Third Culture Bakery baked goods, but I have never tried it before. I saw on Instagram that they were having black sesame flavored items for just a limited time, so I had to go and try it. I love black sesame flavored foods! I ordered the black sesame mochi waffle, the black sesame mochi donut, the black sesame mochi muffin, and the black sesame latte (hot). Other items looked and sounded really good, but I will need to go back and try them! The black sesame mochi donut was good! I can taste the black sesame on the top, and the donut was nice and chewy! The black sesame mochi muffin was good as well! It was thick and chewy. I could taste the black sesame in the muffin. The black sesame latte was okay. I'm not sure why it looked green, but maybe that's how it was supposed to be? (My sister also ordered that and they accidentally put matcha in hers. They told her they did it by mistake and asked if it was okay). I ordered mine hot and with oat milk. I couldn't taste the black sesame in the drink. When I got close to the bottom of the drink, there were globs of black sesame. Maybe it wasn't mixed well? I'm not quite sure what was wrong. I just know it didn't meet my expectations. The black sesame mochi waffle was okay. The waffle itself was good; I can taste the black sesame, and it was chewy. The black sesame whipped cream , the honey, the bananas, the cacao nibs, and the sea salt helped add texture and flavor to the waffle. It was definitely filling. read more

This Third Culture Bakery is located in the Main Street Plaza. It is a busy area, as it is in the downtown area. Parking may be hit or miss depending on when you come, but there is a shared parking lot here as well. The door and windows has this iridescent film / tint to it that is very aesthetically pleasing and will definitely catch your eye. The interior is small with some seating. I am not really a fan of their matcha drinks, as they are a bit too bitter for me, but their matcha mochi donut and original muffin were tasty. read more

Mochi mochi galore! Third Culture has been on my bookmarks for quite some time now and I'm so glad one has opened up near one of my offices and I don't have to go out of my way now. The chrome windows make it very bright inside but don't let that distract you from the mochi goodness. I brought my coworkers with me and I loved that everyone got something to try as well! I got the yuzu lemon donut, Vietnamese coffee donut, and the strawberry matcha muffin. We also all got some drinks and I got the roasted matcha latte. I would say I still prefer Hojicha, but the roasted matcha was still good, just on the lighter side. I loved the donuts and the muffin! I was surprised at how much mochi there was. There are some mochi donuts out there that are all dough and very little mochi. They were on the sweeter side but all still tasted delicious. The strawberry matcha muffin surprised me because if you eat the matcha muffin part by itself, it's actually pretty bitter. But pairing it with the strawberry frosting on top was perfect! Next time I'm in town, I will definitely be stopping by to see what new flavors there are! read more

I got to use some of my rewards; so I highly recommend signing up for that if you see yourself coming back to this awesome place. Today I got a box of 6 doughnuts and 2 lattes.
