Visited as part of a welcome dinner for 30 folks in our package tour of Nice and the French Riviera. We were in the private banquet dining room. Friendly, fun-loving servers. First course was one of the most delicious salades Niçoise I have ever enjoyed. Main course for me was a filet of sea bass with pommes purées. Dessert was chocolate fondant (chocolate lava cake floating in a moat of vanilla cream). Charming indoor and outdoor space in Old Nice!

This was a restaurant we stumbled across after having spent our day at the beach. The service was excellent, and the waiter was patient with us as we navigated the extensive menu. This quintessentially French patio was a beautiful place to people-watch. The only awkwardness was the couple next to us bickering in English. I had the truffle risotto, which was outstanding, but about twice as much food as I could eat. My parter had the foie gras, but again it was too much for him to finish because...foie gras. For his main, he had a steak and mashed potatoes. He finished every morsel. I liked the kir royal, but not the Aperol Spritz. It was too syrupy for me. I enjoy going to places like this where we can take our time and enjoy the meal and the ambiance. It was really a wonderful experience. I definitely recommend it.

Kill me now as I'm going to heaven. The saffron truffle risotto with pawns and squid #hardstop. This has to be one of the best meals on the Cote d'Azur this week, it's Monday. Service is supreme with this top notch seafood bistro. Personable and professional with nothing a problem. Champagne cocktail with rose water and ginger another religious experience. Come to this culinary altar for sure.

The food was really great here, though the portions are a bit large. Although the food came out fairly quickly (compared to most other French restaurants), the restaurant seemed understaffed. The wait to get our bill was about 20 minutes.

the best foie gras we have ever taste

This year, together with my partner we decided for a touring holiday escapade around France. We started in Strasbourg, via Paris,Loire castles , Orleans, Lyon, Marseille, Sain Trope, Cannes and Nice and back to Poland. As during our previous trips to Turkey or Spain, it was not only the escapade to see sights and interesting places but also a trip to the exciting world of new tastes and culinary adventure. Our last evening in France, which we spent in Nice, we decided to celebrate in a unique way so we went for gala and special dinner at Le Grand Balcon. As the evening was warm and early, we decided to sit at the tables outside the restaurant to be able to feel the atmosphere of the tourist lively evening in the city. It was a great decision because we could not only look at the dishes ordered by guests at the tables next to us but also to feel the atmosphere of france during evening meal. I decided to order seasonal risotto with zucchini that was incredibly flavorful, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented . My partner let me persuade him the truffle tasting menu from the top shelf (61 euro for 5 courses). There were tatins, the best foie gras we have ever taste, buttered and creamy truffle risotto, juicy piece of meat with truffle mashed potatoes and eaven dessert had a strong flavor of truffle. Everything was prepared from the best products and was very tasty. Because I love sweets for dessert I wished so-called Apotheosis of desserts for 2 person (18 euro). There were: compressed strowberries tartar sherbet and mint whipped cream crumble, frozen calisson in almond oil, crystallized melon and bitter orange, white and milky chocolate zephyr, home made profiterolles and finaly home made vanilla ice cream. It was heaven in my mouth. Interior of the restaurant is elegant and sophisticated in compliance with all standards. The service is nice, friendly and obliging but I would prefare more of attention for each guest. The prices are unfortunately quite high so it is good place for special date or celebrations but not for every day or evening meal.

    Black truffle beef fillet, before...

Excellent dining experience. We ordered the black truffle steak and black truffle risotto. For the steak lovers, you'd be hard pressed to find a better tasting fillet. The mashed potatoes served on the side were like icing on the cake. Next, the risotto. It melts in your mouth and simply said, is amazing! We had the caramel eclair for dessert which was an excellent choice as well. Great food mixed with a friendly staff equals a recipe for success.

Great meal in France!…read more This was a fantastic first dinner in Nice right off the main drag. We had reservation for 7pm and arrived a few minutes early. We waited a few minutes while they prepped our table and we were seated promptly. The vibe was cool, very French cafe feeling on the streets. The waiters were kind and attentive was you settled in. They patiently answered all our menu questions. We ordered the fois gras (because when in France), the duck and the octopus. All the food was excellent, the fois gras was perfect (although probably wouldn't order it again for ethical reasons). The octopus was absolutely perfect, very very easy to screw up, but they nailed it; every bit melting in our mouths. The duck breast was perfect, juicy and cooked to perfect. All the dishes were served with plenty of accompaniment. Great meal for a great French experience. Would highly recommend.

Maybe not fair for them, but on our previous night, the previous chicken dinner was 5 stars for her. I got the beef stew over gnocchi. Not bad, but even for a light eater, it was NOT enough food for me?!?! Got a glass of Bordeaux which was good, until I noticed the locals got twice as generous of a pour?!? The second time I noticed this while dining out... Happy for them, but to see the inconsistency affects me... Ambiance - Small local business/restaurant. Prime tourist location/area. Plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating. One unisex toilet. Service - Welcoming. Made online reservations, but because we are NOT tech savvy, it booked the wrong time. So since we were in the area, we just walked by and asked them to change the time and had no problems. Price - 49 Euros, $57 USD. Expensive for what we got IMO. Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

Also note there is no cell service or WiFi service in the restaurant. Nice ambiance in the restaurant and away from the hustle and bustle of Nice. We ordered the squid, Foie Gras and Filet Mignon. All 3 were very good though I am not a fan of the Fois Gras but it came with a nice salad and bread. The squid was seasoned well and cut thin and flash fried. The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

I was sooo looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, I was left with cheese on my face (sorry no eggs here, only cheese, cheese, and more cheese). We arrived a bit early for our reservation (15-20 minutes), but we were seated immediately, which was nice; the table was stuffed into a corner, but at least we were seated. Unfortunately, that was about where the niceness ended. The restaurant is supposed to be housed in a former cheese cave, which I thought would be exciting and romantic, instead it was just hot and cramped. This is one of those restaurants that tries to accommodate as many diners as possible, so we were basically eating right on top of another couple (who were incredibly displeased, even stating, "this service is abysmal"). We could literally hear every word spoken up to two tables away, so don't expect to have any privacy, except from the servers that is. Service was unpleasant and extremely minimal. Our server took our food and drink order, delivered our drinks, another server apologized for the delay in receiving our meal, and our original server delivered our meal...and that was it. They didn't refill our water bottle, ask if I wanted another glass of wine, stop by to see if we liked our meal -or needed else (which we did), or even bring a check. After waiting too long for our check, table full of finished plates and empty cups, we eventually just got up and headed upstairs. Apparently you're supposed to head upstairs to pay, but we'd have never known since our server was doing they're best David Copperfield impression. Now for the food. The kitchen was tiny tiny, so it's no wonder the menu consists of cheese for the starter, cheese for the entree, and cheese for dessert. Sprinkled in-between the assortment of cheeses was a steak masquerading on the menu as "Aubrac Bib", whatever that means, and the Tartiflette, think pork belly scalloped potatoes and the only thing you should order here. The Tartiflette was microwave-lunch small, but it was hot, rich, and pretty meaty for the size. I got the Camembert (takes 30 minutes) and it was pretty awful as a meal. It's not even really a dish. They literally opened up the wooden wheel of cheese, peeled back the paper, sprinkled a few things on top, then baked for 30 minutes, so it was more of just a cheese dish. It arrived-paper still covering the top, and was served with some under-seasoned fingerling potatoes and a salad. The salad was good and potatoes were okay, but the cheese was so one-note, it needed meat or veggies to dip in it. Unfortunately, I only had the few potatoes and two small bits of baguette to dunk, so my only option was to eat it like soup, which I did not-so half remained wasted and uneaten. We would have liked to have eaten dessert, but after the poor meal, and lack of even offering dessert, "How could we?". I'm giving 2 stars for the Tartiflette because it was delicious. I would not return and DO NOT RECOMMEND.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
