Amazing! She altered my wedding dress that was a MESS from Anne Gregory for the Bride. It was too big, straps too long and delicate beading all down the front. She fixed it over and over until it was what I wanted. These women are so kind and excellent at what they do. I will take everything I need altered to them from now on. They did an excellent job with my suit. The person who measured me asked me details questions such as whether I wanted a just a slight break for my pants and if I wanted any breaks at all in the back. She clearly understands what is ideal but also gives people a chance to do something unique. She also did not push me into doing unnecessary alterations. First off, I have always been hesitant to bring my clothing to a tailor, hesitant to the point where I just wouldn't do it and I would deal with my clothes as is. However, I have two Christmas parties and at least three weddings coming up in the near future, so I bought a blazer to wear with the dress I'm planning on wearing. The blazer was not cheap, and it is a really pretty cream color. I bought it because it was perfect but when I took it home, I started to come to terms with the fact that I needed to get the sleeves hemmed because they were too long. I did some research on Yelp and found Le Grand Chic. It's close to my apartment, and has good reviews. I called on Tuesday morning and asked if they would be able to hem my sleeves by Wednesday night (I was flying out to the evendt on Thursday morning at 6am). She said yes and told me to bring it down. I went right away, walked in, tried the blazer on, she cuffed the sleeve, pinned it, asked me if that was a good length (it was perfect) and asked if I wanted to keep the button detail at the bottom of the sleeve. I said yes and she told me that wouldn't be a problem and that they'll need to take the sleeve off from the top to hem it. She told me it would be $28 (I honestly was expecting to have to pay more). I left my name and number. I called back at 3pm on Wednesday (they close at 6 and I needed the blazer back by close of business). She said it was ready for pick up. I drove down right away, tried it on and it is PERFECT. The hem is the perfect length, and the quality is excellent. I can't even tell that any work has been done on it. I paid in cash and was out of there with my perfect blazer! I will absolutely recommend Le Grand Chic to anyone and everyone and will be bringing future articles of clothing there for tailoring! read more

I had my wedding dress taken in here. They took my dress that looked kind of meh and didn't fit quite correctly and made it look amazing! You know you've got someone with experience when you hop up on the stool and she's nailed the changes that need to be made in roughly 30 seconds. I had a fairly simple dress, so the alterations were only $50 - but after this experience, I would not hesitate to trust them with anything, including my favorite vintage coat, which is in bad need of lining rehab. This woman is fantastic. After moving out of Boston I had to find a new tailor and this place was recommended by someone in the neighborhood. I've had all my pants hemmed here and she does a great job. It's $21 to shorten 2 pairs of pants. Not sure how that compares to other places, but she does a great job. read more

Don't be put off by the fact that this place is a hole in the wall - they do a fantastic job. I have brought several men's suits here for alterations and I am completely happy with the results. The owner did the measurements and asked for input from the client as to where he wanted the break in the pants, etc. She was honest about what she thought needed alterations and what did not. Ex: some of his suit coats needed the arms shortened while others were fine. Alterations we had done (all on men's suits) included hemming, shortening sleeves, shortening the back of the jacket (at the top) so it fell across his back smoothly, and letting out a pair of pants at the waist. Prices and turn around time were completely reasonable and the work was great. As with most tailors, cash only (I think she also takes personal checks but not 100% sure). read more

I had already been told by another tailor that it absolutely couldn't be done, but Le Grand Chic took it in saying it wouldn't be a problem. I had been coming here for approximately 10 year's and always had a good experience with minor alterations. I always dreamed that when I got married I would bring my wedding gown here. I was an older (48) 1st time bride. I wish I listened to the bridal boutique where I bought my gown and stayed with them. I ended up crying on my wedding night because of this place. Also, this is not just my opinion, but it was confirmed by the venue coordinator that they did a terrible job on my bustle. Right from the get go when I 1st came in, they gave me the cold shoulder. They were downright rude when I came out of the dressing room with my gown on, actually ignoring me. I stood there for minutes adjusting things on my dress with no help. They had a snark attitude and I suspected that I was getting the cold shoulder because of my age and the fact that I was in a traditional wedding gown. I received no help until I finally asked if I could get some help that I was standing there waiting for them to come over and start pinning what needed to be pinned on the dress. I couldn't believe the treatment I was getting. It was very sad. Finally, the owner came over and sized me up and gave me her "approval" that I could get away with wearing a traditional gown. I wasn't looking for her approval. I work out hard 5 days a week and eat nutritiously, thank you anyway. The dress fit me perfectly right from the designer, needed no alterations except for a bustle. Because I had used them for alterations for years, and they seem to have excellent reviews, and was told 30 yrs in the business, I decided to dismiss their rude behavior and keep my dress there. I had also brought in my daughters jr. Bridesmaid dress which needed major alterations as she is tiny and her dress was too big ( I will comment on this later). My gown had a lot of beautiful detailing on the bottom of the train. At the bridal shop where I purchases the gown, they did a mock bustle showing off the beautiful detail on the bottom telling me a 3 point bustle would work just fine. I expected the same from this experienced seamstress. When I came in to try the dress after she worked on it it had a silver hook sewn on the back of my dress to "hang" the train on. I should have immediately taken my dress out of there then, but I gave them another chance. I did express my disappointment in the silver hook. In fact, I was in disbelief. I asked if she could remove it. I then proceeded to contact a wedding forum to ask what the normal procedure for bustles were and they all commented clear buttons were the norm. I also told the seamstress I wanted a 3 point bustle. But she told me she couldn't do it without all the hooks that I thought were unsightly. Again, I trusted her. I had never worn a wedding gown, didn't know much about bustles and trusted the so called expert. She said she would make a hook and fasten one of my crystal buttons on the back of my dress tight so the loop could hook on the button. 20 minutes after the dress was bustled the bustle kept coming down and he button fell off. I spent 1/2 an hour away from my wedding reception while the venue coordinator fastened my bustle with safety pins. The back of the dress was an embarrassment for the rest of the night. The wedding itself was perfect. We are a very happy couple. I shouldn't let the dress.ruin this unhappiness and embarrassment with the dress, but when a wedding coordinator tells you your seamstress did a terrible job, that was.all the confirmation I needed. Finally, my daughter's bridesmaid dress was altered ok, no major disappointments, except that they couldn't even press the dress after I spent $60 on it for the alterations it needed. I was ironing her dress the night before the wedding. Don't go here if you are an "older" 1st time bride. The treatment I received made me feel like they thought I didn't deserve to wear a traditional wedding gown. Again, I wish I stayed with the bridal shops seamstress who cared about the overall wedding day look of the gown. It is telling when the venue coordinator wanted to put in a call to the seamstress to give her a piece of their mind. I was embarrassed and sad over this. I will never go here again for anything else. I had over 100 people at an historical mansion with award winning gardens at my wedding. I was treated as if I were having a backyard wedding, and low down common scum. Horrible treatment and results. read more
