A year or two in to Le Marais Bakery's opening in Mill Valley and we all wonder what we ever did without it. It's a little bit of France in Marin. Favorite pastries include the morning buns, pain au chocolate, croissants, financiers and their chocolate tarte (that has a French name I've forgotten, but it looks like a chocolate pudding pie.) They have a cafe menu and serve breakfast and lunch all week, with both indoor and outdoor seating (and WiFi.) Service can be slow, and remains so. This can prove frustrating, depending on the day, & I tend to avoid weekend brunch here for that reason. read more

Delicious crepe complete! There are only so many places that offer a buckwheat French crepe, and the one here hit the spot. And the espresso drinks were a great complement to the brunch options. The cafe is adorable and airy, a beautiful spot to enjoy brunch or a pastry and coffee. While the service was friendly it was a bit chaotic and slow. Coffee was great. Pastries are superb. Food was less that great but good. I had the French flan, which was custard pie, and delicious. I also had an Asian cabbage salad with chicken, which was generous, but the dressing could have had more zing. My wife a Had a chocolate almond croissant, which was yum, and a ham and Gruyère egg sandwich, which while good, left her with a bit of a sour stomach afterwards. Overall a good place to get baked goods, and be selective with entrees. read more

The woman who helped me could not be bothered to notice that I had been standing in front of her for quite a while while she talked to another co-worker. On National Burrito Day my lunch date suggested two options. The first featured Mexican food but it was the second, featuring French bistro fare, for which I opted. En route to Le Marais I pulled up yelp and bummed a bit seeing the overall 3.8-star rating but remained an optimist. We were well past the lunch crush and walking into this high-ceilinged bistro outfitted with Parisian decor transported me a bit. I'd been enticed with the notion of French Onion Soup but pivoted because, despite the cold day, a meal-sized salad was calling. I'd spotted a diner consuming one that looked enticing but when asked, she responded that it was "the Lobster Salad and I got the last one". So I'd not be having the delicious looking lobster salad. I opted instead for the meal-sized Salad Mediterraneene (sic, $16) featuring feta, red onion, greek olives, and hummus in an appealing, lemony dressing. I enjoyed every bite of this satisfying dish as did my lunch date who'd opted for an enticing looking, cheesy Croque Monsieur ($15). Everything about Le Marais had me thinking "this is like a French Rustic Bakery" except I enjoyed the atmosphere here far more. Until I can return to Paris, Le Marais will remain my quick response to where one can go to get French bistro fare locally. read more

Every time I go in for an Almond croissant, they've already run out by 3pm, and are left with chocolate almond croissants. So.. if a place always has left over chocolate almond croissants and run out of Almond croissants, wouldn't it be a good idea to reduce the number of Choc/almond ones, and make more almond croissants..? Le Marais Bakery is one of my favorite French bakeries. All the food options and pastries look delectable. Its always nice when you stand up at the order counter you get to see and appreciate the assortment on display. The design and style sensibilities support the French vibe, along with the employees fluent in the lingo. I can't wait when the weather gets nice the patio will be a great spot to chill out. Seating inside is an assortment of long group tables, along with two and three tops. On the occasions I've come I had the Eggs Benedict. This was so good, that the hollandaise sauce was so yummy, I would lick if off my flip flops if I had too. The accompanied salad and dressing is perfectly and lightly dressed. I would also suggest Bacon Croissant Toast too, though the eggs were overcooked, not done sunny side up. If you haven't tried out Le Marais, give it a go, I think you'll enjoy it if you can get in when its not overcrowded. read more

So fortunate to have this fantastic bakery cafe in our neighborhood. Our family frequents this spot for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Come for the pastries stay for the eggs benedict, salmon scramble, French onion soup, French dip, crepes to name a few of our favorites. The latte is perfection, both hot and iced. read more

Le Marais used to allow me to sub tofu for chicken in the Sesame Chicken Salad. For whatever reason they no longer allow the substitution and won't even hold off the chicken. So the quality of the dish was easily four stars but the overall rating for current meals available to vegetarians is lower. read more

Honest review here. My 2nd time here. 1st time was much better on Valentine's Day despite being super busy. Came in for lunch and ordered the spicy crab Benedict. I really appreciate a runny yolk on my Benedict and that did not happen. My husband ordered a medium burger and got it well done. No servers to inquire how the food tasted. The pains aux raisins was just a bit too soggy. Not sure what happened since last time. I would probably come back for pastry and coffee but not the food. read more

Had a very nice dinner tonight at Le Marais Bakery in Mill Valley. The food was great, the service was attentive, and we're already looking forward to coming back again. We really loved the salmon rillettes that we ordered as an appetizer. Both my son and I were happy with our meals (wild mushroom tagliatelle and rack of lamb, respectively), as well as the hazelnut Paris-Brest we had for dessert. I noticed there weren't many pictures of dinner food here on Yelp, so I uploaded a few of mine. I'm guessing they do most of their business in the morning with coffee/espresso drinks and tons of French pastries. Anyway, this place is great for dinner too. Highly recommended. read more

This place has the slowest and rudest staff I've ever met. Why would you put all this money in a place of business and have extremely rude staff to greet your customers after an insanely long wait, mostly because the staff seems to prioritize their gossip time while you can wait until they are good and ready to sell you some below average extremely overpriced croissants. Luckily there are plenty of much better options not too far away, without the obnoxious staff to deal with. Won't be going back to this place again. read more

I'm sitting in the dining room after eating and observing the rhythm here. Great venue, just had a delicious 1/2 club sandwich and fabulous sesame chicken salad. Lukewarm but good cappuccino. As a former restaurant owner, where some things work really well here, they really do not have a handle on Customer Service. Once you've placed your order and taken a number, you're on your own to figure out where sugar, stir sticks, napkins, etc. are. Near the kitchen there are shelves with bags but no to go containers. Asked the woman who appears to be a manager who was at the register and she literally waved her hand at me and said "kitchen". I go to the kitchen and had to wait to get a cook's attention to get a container. If you're going to have bags on shelves that are self service why not have the containers there as well? Once you've gotten your food, they're done with you. No one is passing by tables and looking at customers to see if they need anything such as a to go container where all of this might've been highlighted and I've been able to ask for one, even if it was self service. When I am in Mill valley I come by to look for a particular pastry that they often run out of early. No luck today, which is fine but only giving warm attention to people they know is a big turn off. It wouldn't take much for this place to get four or five stars in my book instead of three. read more

I didn't love it as much on my second visit. The l location is very nice with lovely outdoor seating and indoor seating. I had the chicken on both visits. The first time the breast was dry and the leg undercooked. I was so taken by the moment that I ate around the bad parts and enjoyed the accompaniments. On my second visit, the breast was dry and service slow. I wanted a second glass or wine and dessert but threw in the towel and went to another location. I realize there is a fine line between hovering and allowing the customer to enjoy however I would have preferred to have a second glass of wine and dessert. It's a nice location and I may try again in a few months. I hear there is a new restaurant opening at Marin Mart. read more

Casual place to come visit once every other bakery is out of goods. Although this place was out of croissants as well. Asian salad was an average, and heads up, they serve a dark roast coffee so it is bitter. Avocado croissant toast, on the other hand, had a relatively decent taste. Nothing above average though. Pros: Their real estate is their saving grace with location and outdoor seating capacity with tables/umbrellas. Croissants are good. Cons: They have an interesting view on customer service. It is an entitled staff who come across arrogant if you ask for anything more than what you order. Hardly welcoming or helpful but robotic. Randomly I have ordered their croissants, which they are and should be known for. The inside dining area is crammed by tables right up against each other, the noise of the kitchen (pots and pans) and the cooks conversations. Reluctantly, when my friend suggested we try a meal here, I agreed. I ordered their French Onion Burger, medium to medium well and a glass of ice water. After we were served our meals, we both noticed that our burgers were not cooked as ordered. My burger came out RARE. It was difficult to get the server's attention to address this as well as the ice water we ordered and never received. When I did bring it to the attention of the server, he looked irritated and completely bothered and said he would return to get my burger (and my friend's) BUT never did. My friend asked for salt and pepper, but of course that request was also ignored. it's important to note that the prices on their menu online are OUTDATED. The French Onion Burger is $24.00, listed online as $18.00. We left hungry, paying $50.00 dollars for burgers we couldn't eat, thirsty (as we never did receive our ice water) and frustrated chasing down a server who never responded to our requests. A side note: we came at 10 am on a slow weekday, so there is no excuse for inattentiveness. The lack of integrity is the missing link, as they seem to be more impressed with themselves than they are delivering a good product. I will NOT return because of the attitudes, service, inaccuracy of the meal temperature and noise, making it impossible to have a decent conversation. I don't want to work that hard to enjoy a nice lunch. Bikers stop here on their route in and out of Mill Valley and while the noise is more manageable, the other issues still remain. If you go, just be prepared for what your experience might be, an expensive disappointment. read more

Le Marais is a bit of an outlier to me, now. It has settled into catering itself to the nouveau riche of Mill Valley who like the austere nature along with exorbitantly priced well-crafted baked goods. My wife has had several incidents of poor service here, and along with the prices, it has fallen far from being my go-to bakery, even though it is quite close to me. The people behind the counter are funny and nice, and all I can say it's a good place if 1) you don't mind paying through the nose for a croissant, and 2) don't mind getting there at precisely 8am to avoid the line. I used to like the croque madame/monsieur but got sick from one of them and plus I had to gag it down as it was so tough. Maybe they'll re-visit their quality control and I can re-visit a review soon! read more

This was the most amazing Sunday morning experience I've had for a long time. I drove all the way from alameda for this (mostly to meet a friend but that's besides the point) and it did not disappoint!! There were zero red lights on during the 45 minute trek which was my sign from God that I was gonna have a good time... The vibes inside the bakery are amazing. There is plenty of seating, lots of natural light, and they serve you food right away and bring drinks right to your table so you don't have to get up. They also bus tables which is super sweet and makes for an all around pleasant experience. I ordered a plain croissant and an iced latte and both were delicious. The croissant was so flaky and had the perfect bite and chewiness to it--so yummy!! They had some amazing looking tarts I want to try next time. Anyways, not much to report other than this place is AWESOME, shout-out to my friend Caleb who showed it to me :) P.S I don't have photos because I was meeting him for the first time and was too embarrassed to take photos --but I'm definitely going back so hopefully I'll have an update! read more

This bakery has yummy food and the owner is a doll. I've been frequenting Le Marais since they were on Chestnut in SF. I've only eaten in MV for breakfast but heard from my neighbors that their dinners are good too. I haven't seen the owner the last two times I was at the bakery, and have experienced two rude employees at the counter, they simply could be nicer. This morning I arrived at 7:58 and was told they opened at eight, even though the front door was unlocked. I stepped out for two minutes and with a group of people re-entered promptly at 8. If you don't want people to enter early, pls keep your doors locked. I ordered a latte and a chocolate croissant with cream. When the man behind the counter reached for a plain chocolate croissant I said no, I'd like the one with cream. He said "that is a suisse, it costs more!" I said that's fine and paid. How was I to know what it's called if there's no name on it?? If you want me to order by name, pls put names on the items! Honestly there are tons of bakeries in Mill Valley at this point that make amazing croissants, one of which is just further down E. Blithedale Ave.. If the employees can't be polite, I'll take my business elsewhere. read more
