We just had a delicious dinner at Le Marais in Mill Valley. Their brunch and lunch always hits the spot and now we know that their dinner is just as tasty. We had the endive salad and tuna tartar for appetizers and the salmon and roast chicken for our entrees. Everything was excellent including the service. The vibe in the evening is also very charming. I discovered this place after passing by it so many times. I had read that they had the best croissants in SF so of course, I just had to see for myself. That was a mistake. I have been back several times ever since, disregarding the fact that I have things to do or there is a line or I don't need the carbs. My new favorite is the cinnamon bun. Then I took my boyfriend, now he's a junkie. Needless to say, I don't forsee this place going anyway anytime. It is very dog friendly & has the cutest little setup with tables whether outside or in. Love the music, love the staff, love the REAL FOOD, love the coffee. Parking can be a little tricky despite the large parking lot, particularly on the weekends. I debated a higher rating because I really enjoyed the almond croissant and their selection of pastries looked amazing. However, my husband and I were not impressed with our brunch. We stopped there for brunch on our way for a hike on a Saturday. The line was out the door, but mostly because they only had one cashier helping customers out. Seating is on a first come first serve basis so my husband snagged a table outside while I ordered. Staff were friendly and I actually ordered the almond pastry on her recommendation. The croissant was flakey and not overly sweet. I would definitely come back for their cafe!! Our meal came out relatively quickly. My eggs Benedict had good flavor and was served over a nice flakey bun, but the eggs were not runny and more of a medium boil. My husband ordered the omelette and added bacon to it, but unfortunately it was just a little dry and the portion was smaller than expected for an omelette. I might give their lunch a try someday, but for now I would visit for coffee and a pastry. read more

Two caveats: we've only been for lunch, 4-5 times, never dinner... and you'll need to not mind waiting in line (unless you luck into a good time slot - something we've never figured out :p) The food can be great, or just good - quality varies unfortunately. Most of the prices are, like, $1-3 more than they should be... but still not crazy expensive. And yet, we still go every once in a while because we like the ambience - both indoors and outside - the breakfast stuff and the salads, and the chocolate chip cookie (the other baked good look fine, but we adore that cookie) I actually *like* the get-your-water thing, and don't mind them not waiting on you at your table. But... That line to order. It's just one person, which seems crazy to me, especially when it's busy. Mind you, she's great, and funny and warm and all... but she still has to wait for people to ask her questions and not really know what they want, etc. And she's also in charge of getting you the baked goods. It can be frustrating. And yet, 4 stars :) So add a grain of salt to those two caveats, maybe. read more

I've been on a decades long search for a croissant in the states that could match up to the ones in France, and I have not been able to find one until now. The croissant here is flaky, had the aroma of butter, and the inside has many layers and air pockets. Truly perfect! The coffee here is strong and aromatic. Some things to approve upon... Pastries, delicious but I also ordered the French onion burger to go, Around 25 minutes wait from cashier to receiving food, no utensils or ketchup in the bag, I had to go back up and ask for it, you would think it's standard in a to go order, no? My friend with a salad didn't get utensils either. I get to my next destination where we're eating lunch, open the container... And..! Wrong burger! They gave me their other burger,"le burger". If my 2 kids didn't need to eat something and I wasn't with a group of friends, AND I had the time to wait for it to be fixed, I'd have gone back and requested for it to be corrected.. The he? burger nonetheless was good but it was disappointing not to get what I ordered. I thought it was the kitchen's fault but it turns out after checking the order receipt, the person taking my order put the wrong burger in even though I specifically said French onion burger.. I totally understand and have compassion for staff working a busy Sunday brunch time but I think they need more staff to get through it in order to succeed. read more

The environment of the restaurant was warm and welcoming. Beautiful outdoor and indoor dining. Someone at our table ordered a $32 meal and it was enough food for the entire table of seven to dine on. I've been telling my friends and family all about this place, I finally took them for breakfast. As we ordered our food. I asked the lady at the register if we can take the long table on the outside patio. She said YES fiat comes first served. I mentioned again "even though the chairs are folded?" She reassures YES. We were a group of 10 people. We sat down food comes... all of a sudden. "She comes screaming" you can not sit here, this table is reserved. (No sign said reserved) a side of the inappropriate approach and embarrassment because all the people there started staring... no one helped us with our food and 10 guests to find another table. 5* for the pastry and cappuccino. Came here on a Monday afternoon around 3pm in December. Looks like it had been a busy day because there were plain croissants, some flan and cookies left. The croissants were buttery and delicious -- not as flakey has Ariscault but very addictive in flavor and texture. The pumpkin flan is super rich and delicious as is the Banana Bread. The cappuccino was super smooth and yum -- one of the best cappuccinos I've had in a while. I know some of the other reviews are mixed, but the pastries and coffee here were amazing and some of the best I've had in the Bay Area so 5* all the way for an amazing pastry and coffee shop with lovely, bright ambience. read more
