I ordered the vegetarian caprese sandwich with a pistachio latte (served in a giant mug, which I loved!), and my husband really enjoyed his chicken sandwich. The cafe is clean, has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and even has a bathroom, making it a great spot to relax before exploring the city. I'd definitely stop by again! read more

My omelet had very little flavor, but the texture of the eggs was very good. Of course it came with avocado- I think half the menu included avocado, and a side salad with a strong vinaigrette dressing, and 2 pieces of bread on the side. I also ordered the strawberry brioche babka- it was light and fluffy, with a very, very mild flavor. I wish it would have been a little sweeter. Another decent chain with good food to check out. The staff are excellent and the avocado toast is also quite good for breakfast. They have a funky practice if serving americano coffees in a small soup bowl, which I rather enjoy. The ambience is ok to good. It is set up to serve a lot of people at once. I had to walk to the counter to pay, just to get someone to close out my ticket. And the food - egg sammy had 3x the amount of bread needed, the outside was so oily! I ended up removing the top piece of bread and using fork and knife on it because I didn't want greasy fingers the rest of the day. Flavor was flat - no salt, no pepper, nothing. Not overly friendly, overly attentive, or overly engaged which is fine if that's your thing, but I like to chat and hear things like, my name is ---- I'll be your server, or even a my name is ---- let me know if I can get you anything. My croque monsieur was okay, nothing to write home about. My husband had the quiche, he loved it, I tried it and again it was okay. He also had a tomato soup that he wasn't a fan of, yet I really liked it, but it was because it had chunks of tomato and felt more like it should have been on pasta rather than calling it a soup, so I get it. I was seated right away, but service after was very, very slow. My server was pleasant, but not overtly friendly or busy. She simply took her time and was often just leaning against the counter. The food was delicious, but a little overpriced as many of the other reviews are saying. I ordered a chai tea which really hit the spot. The chicken mozzarella melt was also divine, but I hate when my food is a struggle to eat. The pieces were big enough where they were difficult to handle. The bread was too soggy to simply pick up, but the crust too stiff to cut. Again, it was delicious, but it was a bit of a challenge. Not really looking for work in a meal when you aren't expecting it! All in all, this is a cozy and sweet spot, but only if you have extra time and money to spare. read more

Service is always terrible. Every time, I've been seated, told the sever will be be back and every time -- with no more than 10 customers -- it takes 10 minutes for a server to return for my order. On Thursday, 10/2, I'm handed a menu by the woman at the register, invited to sit anywhere (which I appreciated), and the server who's already been told to take my order by the woman at the register, looks at me already sat down and obviously ready to order then turns away and begins to dry cutlery. I wait, server may be giving me time to decide. Another server whose section I apparently was not in reminds the server drying the cutlery that she should go take my order -- again, it is quite obvious I'm ready to order. This server again looks my way and then returns to drying cutlery. I scrape chair back and leave. Not waiting around and spending my money for shit service and merely passable food. @Le Pain -- good service helps. Better trained wait staff would likely help your establishment. read more

I've been living in DC for less than a month and I've come to this location about 4-5 times. It is a little pricey, but the quality of the food and the service just absolutely overpower anything. I will literally pay anything if it means I'm getting quality items and excellent service anyway. The staff here is always extremely friendly and always greet you with a smile on their face. When it comes to the food, it's just perfect every time. I have yet to have a less than perfect experience when I visit here. My go to has been the smoked salmon and Greek yogurt omelette. Also, their portions are ridiculously big for anyone complaining about their prices...They give you huge amounts which is fantastic. Sometimes I have trouble finishing my meal and coffee! I came here for dinner with a friend. The menu had so many tasty options, we didn't know what to get... and then we learned that breakfast was served all day - a total game changer! The waiter gave us his recommendations, and the skillet eggs - two eggs cooked sunny-side up in a skillet and topped with avocado and crispy onions (or bacon and scallions) - sounded too good to pass up. They also have omelettes and a hearty breakfast bowl worth considering. Since the restaurant was practically empty when we arrived (~5:45pm), and only one other table came to dine-in while we were there, I was expecting the food to come out quicker than it did (though the wait time was still reasonable). Our waiter was super friendly when he gave us recommendations, but his attention and service waned significantly after we received our food. He never came to check on us once the food was brought out and only resurfaced at the end of the meal to clear dishes and bring us the check. In terms of food, the dish wasn't bland per se, but the grey sea salt and cracked black pepper - strategically placed on every table - are welcome additions. The skillet eggs were served with a piece of toast and a slice of their baguette (good if you love your carbs like I do :9). For a $12 dish, the cafe does have a more upscale feel and the food is fresher than Panera Bread or Corner Bakery, but the portion size was small, and all in all - it's pricey for what you're getting. My friend ordered the goat cheese and mushroom omelette which was packed with goat cheese and comes with a side salad and bread. Her dish ($13) was a more generous portion size and I think better value, but despite the nice ambiance, it's hard to justify returning at these price points. read more

Have you ever craved a mocha so bad when on vacation that you've desperately searched for the nearest cafe to buy one? This was my situation yesterday and I have never been so utterly disappointed in my life. I was allured by the cool NYC sort of bakery vibe this cafe was giving off. Upon entranced, I was asked if I would be dining in or taking out. Did that mean I couldn't sit down if I order a coffee to go? Probably. How annoying. Anyway, I ordered a small mocha with almond milk for a "measly" $5. It took awhile to produce so I wandered over to the package goods (homemade granola, chocolate spreads, etc.) the cafe ordered for purchase. I took a sip of my mocha when it was ready and almost spit it out in disgust. At this point I was late for an appointment but I should have gone back and complained. The mocha I was given tasted burnt and nothing like a mocha should. I'm not even sure if expresso was in there. Anyway, Le Pain was a huge pain and I will never return here for a hot beverage ever again. I mean if you can't even make a proper mocha, how good could your food be? read more
