As far as food goes, it was pretty good. I loved the chefs breakfast sandwich. It was very well made with the runny egg with bacon, cheese, and ham in nicely toasted sourdough. The bacon, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito was pretty good too but I thought the sandwich was the star and if you were too get one thing from here, it should be that. As far as drinks go, I had the matcha lattes both iced and hot. No complaints there. They also have a selection of juice. I liked the Tangerine juice. The fruit cup was my only small complaint and it was just because of what looks like a little mold growing on a grape but I wouldn't expect them to quality inspect every piece of fruit they put into cups. Your best option for takeout on weekend mornings is to order well in advance, giving the restaurant plenty of time to fulfill your order. Their takeout operation seems to be a massive undertaking, posing challenges to keep up with while actively managing in-house dining services. Street parking in the vicinity is virtually non-existent during peak hours. Their brunch food is good, however, to the best version and quality it is probably best to experience it while dining in. Their menu items don't necessarily fare well in takeout packaging; for example, their biscuit sandwich and grits. I was visiting DC for a few days for a conference, and this eatery was conveniently located in my hotel, the Eaton DC, on the first floor. So my first morning there I needed some coffee and something to eat, so I headed downstairs to check out this place and was just going to order a regular latte when I saw someone picking up their coffee drink. It just looked so delicious. I asked what it was, and she told me it was a pistachio latte. So I ordered one, and it was amazing. Definitely better than some of the larger chain coffee shops. I've tried. It was so good that I had to get another one and wished I had gotten a large. I also ordered a sandwich on an English muffin with avocado, egg, and bacon. It was also very delicious. It didn't take me long to get my order either and the line wasn't very long. I noticed they're large square donuts, but I didn't think I would be able to eat all of one and they were $4.50. I sat at the bar table that looked out the window onto the street. I enjoyed people watching and talking to the lady that sat next to me. I visited a couple more times to get one of those delicious coffees. On one of my visits I did order one of the donuts, but it was disappointing. I should have asked if they would warm it up for me. Had breakfast here a nice fall Saturday morning and loved it. It was nearly 60 degrees and they had the wall open for indoor/outdoor seating but they eventually closed it (I guess maybe they thought it was too cold but I thought it was perfect!) Her conduct reflected a profound lack of understanding, patience, and professional sensitivity toward individuals with neurodevelopmental differences. During the incident in question, my son went downstairs with a $15 coupon provided by the Eaton Hotel and politely asked whether he could purchase three bottles of soda. Instead of explaining that the coupon amount was insufficient and advising him to return to his room to obtain the additional four dollars needed, Andrea E took the coupon and gave him only two bottles of soda without any clear explanation. My son returned to the room visibly confused and distressed, unable to articulate what had occurred due to his disability. Believing the coupon had been insufficient, I provided him with additional money to resolve the matter, and he returned downstairs with the two sodas in hand. Upon his return, the situation escalated unnecessarily and unprofessionally. He was charged $18.66, despite the fact that no clear clarification had been provided earlier. When I accompanied my son back downstairs to address the discrepancy, Andrea E proceeded to accuse him of taking five bottles of soda, an allegation made without proper verification or clarification. This accusation was both unfounded and deeply distressing, particularly given my son's condition and his vulnerability in high-pressure social interactions. This entire encounter demonstrated a failure to communicate appropriately, a lack of accommodation for a known disability, and an alarming tendency to make accusatory assumptions rather than seeking understanding. Such behavior caused my son significant emotional distress and reflects conduct that is wholly inconsistent with principles of inclusivity, equity, and basic human decency. read more

3.5 stars! Came to Baker's Daughter on a Saturday afternoon. The location inside the Eaton is chic and a great work spot or for a quick bite with a friend. A friend and I both got gingerbread lattes and shared a croissant. Overall a good experience. The lattes weren't too sweet and tasty. Service was friendly. The croissant was a bit dry/tasteless, almost stale but perfectly fine. Wish I had gotten something to eat because it smelled delicious and the menu looked great. Would definitely come back for breakfast/lunch and an overall good spot for coffee (though not somewhere I'd go out of my way to go to for coffee). Yelp lists the avocado toast at $12, but ordering through Uber Eats bumped it up to $14.40 (price of the meal only), plus an additional $3 for a sunny-side-up egg, totaling $17.40. For a single slice of whole grain bread, half an avocado, and an egg, the price feels excessive. I've attached screenshots from both Yelp and Uber Eats to highlight the pricing differences. So the good news is the coffee is good. I just got a latte. They don't have any sugar-free syrups so don't come here expecting sugar-free vanilla anything. But the coffee was sweet and very good. This spot is close to my folks house so decided to check it out on a recent visit back home from California. Went there in the AM looking forward to its breakfast sandwiches, coffee and pastries. Another older and curly hair lady quickly stopped her and said chia seed pudding only in a very cold tone. Even the two are the same price she wouldn't let you use it for yogurt. There's a popular entrance off of K Street NW. Working nearby, I went for lunch with a colleague and friend on a random Tuesday around noon. Here's my experience: 1) Food: Their menu includes breakfast, mid-day snacks and lunch options. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich for $14. It comes with your pick of a salad. I expected more from the sandwich. Despite being advertised as "juicy," the fried chicken was dry and very flat. As I ate it, I wondered if it was a vegan fried chicken patty made from mushroom (which I actually do like!). The pimento cheese was more smoky and distracted from the experience rather than add to its flavor. However, the side salad was SO GOOD! I ordered the kale pasta salad and could easily eat that creamy salad every day. 2) Price: For a downtown lunch, $14 isn't too bad of a price for a large sandwich and a sizeable salad. 3) Service: Staff were friendly and attentive. 4) Space: The cafe itself is designed well with wood themes, booths and tables for sitting. I had the privilege of enjoying Baker's Daughter for the three days I stayed in the Eaton and I enjoyed every bit of it. I can't speak for the price (we had vouchers for breakfast) but the coffee and creame/sugar setup was delightful, as were the breakfast tacos and pastries that we ordered. The food was genuinely delicious-- something you wouldn't necessarily expect from a coffee shop. Of course, the reason I'm giving a full five stars is the aesthetic and interior design. The corner location makes for a nice view of the area through their expansive windows, but it's the interior that really lights up the place. The hearty use of plants alongside the beautiful wooden tables (not to mention the cute lights scattered throughout the shop) make for a great vibe. Would definitely visit again. read more

Cute cafe tucked away in the southeast corner of a building at 12th and K Streets, NW, which it shares with the Eaton Hotel. This is a good breakfast/lunch place for tourist staying at the Eaton hotel or passerby (convenience) but there are definitely better options for local Washingtonians. I had very high expectations in connection with the owner of Teo other nice restaurants including a Michelin Star (Gravitas), but unfortunately this bakery is not at that high level. Food is not bad, but not good either. I mean, my sandwich was ok, my partner's sandwich was a disappointment, the pasta salad that came with it wasn't fresh. Also there is excessive amount of sauces in the sandwiches, that really kills the taste of other things in it. For example, the sauce in the fried chicken absolutely killed the chicken, even if it was juicy and fried to perfection, you couldn't really tell due to the stupid amount of sauce in there. Ambiance is bad even though they have good decoration. My biggest issue is a huge problem with smoke, there is a huge cloud of smoke inside, I can't believe that they can't manage that and have better extractor in the kitchen, the issue with smoke is that it is unpleasant to sit there and order more or enjoy your coffee (you want to leave and breath outside!), and second your clothes and hair small really bad (smoke, fried food) when you leave, so "no good". Just skip this place and try another one if you have time... if you are at the Eaton, it is ok to grab and go I guess. read more
