My dog begs to come here. Seriously that's how good it is. Whenever we go for a walk he tries to direct me back to this store.The employees always make a point to play with him and give him treats. My miniature schnauzer, Kodak, and I have lived in Forest Hills for 3 years. I wouldn't think of bringing him anywhere else for grooming. The manager is quite flexible and sometimes can take Kodak on short notice. Also, the groomers are extremely talented. I'm glad they don't do "rush jobs," because of their high attention to detail. Lastly, Le Pitou as a store has a very nice atmosphere filled with all sorts of rare pet products. Even if you don't need grooming services, it's well worth a visit to buy your pet some food, treats, and gifts! read more

I took my dog here and i was satisfied on the work done on my dog. The positive things i found were quick sevice, good customer service, they have a glass door which you can see what is being done to your dog (It is important for me to know my dog is being treated like part of the family), good deal on nail cutting, $5, which in Petco is $10, and clean. The customer service rep's name is Lady and she has been the most efficient and very patient in handling the service and the staff was excellent. Good selection of food and treats and the ladies I've come in contact with are sweet and helpful. I've never had my dog groomed before ( I do it myself) but to the former customers who say they mishandle dogs I would have to say I'm not so sure. I've seen them grooming many dogs and cats and for animals that get nervous or scared in the water or around loud noises holding them by the scruff of the neck mimics the mother's bite on the neck which relaxes the animal. It doesn't hurt it just lets them know they can calm down. Vet's and vet-techs do the same thing when you're dog or cat is being examined and is squirming. I have no complaints about this place and from what I've seen they do not seem to be mistreating any animals. read more

This location was formerly known as Pet Zone but they changed name and ownership toward the end of last year. When I took my dogs here last November, the groomers who worked for the previous owner were still around so I didn't hesitate to leave my boys with them. I made an appointment this weekend and was told that both groomers left and there are 2 new excellent groomers who took over. I was a bit unsure but even if I went elsewhere, I would be dealing with new groomers anyway so I figure I'd give them a try. I made a 9:30AM appointment and dropped the dogs off at 9:30 on the dot. I had a full day ahead of me and reserved the early part of the day especially for the grooming. The women at the front desk told me it will take about 3 hours and they will call me. 1pm rolled around and I haven't received a call so I called the store and the same woman at the front desk told me to come by around 1:30pm. When my husband and I went there around 2pm, I saw one of my dogs sitting on the grooming table getting worked on. The groomer came out and told me that he's very matted and she wanted us to come in to tell us that she will need additional time. Now I'm wondering what the heck they were doing from 9:30 until then! And couldn't she have told us over the phone to save us a trip? Grooming can be a stressful situation for many dogs and to be locked in a kennel for so many hours with the sounds of hairdryers, water, and barking dogs can be traumatizing! She told us that one of our dogs are done and to come back around 3:30pm to pick up the other. We took one of the dogs and my husband took me to take care of the errands I planned for the latter part of my day. At 4pm, we went to pick up our dog only to find that he got a cut we did not specify. My husband even wondered if that was our dog. At this point, we were just happy he's done! The hair can grow back. Basically, our poor dog was there for 7 hours when we were told it would be a 3-hour session. We never received a call to tell us that it's taking longer for whatever reason and we, the client, had to follow up with them and make additional trips there only to be told they weren't ready. I definitely do not recommend this place. The woman who was managing the front desk should keep clients happy and informed about any schedule changes. They can't tell us to expect a 3 hour session and have it turn into a 7 hour session without us being agitated! read more

For the THIRD time in 2 years we made reservations to have our dog groomed. EACH and every single time when we showed up they got hysterical and said we had no appointment. So today we called in advance to let them know we are coming for our 2:00 appointment. Mom asked her to look on her computer, the girl claimed we could not be found at all in the computer by name or dog's name, despite having been there 4 times before. The girl on the phone literally screamed at my 88 year old mother saying she didn't know who she was and we had no appointment - the one mom made 5 days prior. When my mother said this happens every time, the girl got quiet and said...."er, ahhhh the groomer is sick. I have an appointment Thursday." Mom asked "how do you know the groomer will be better by Thursday, if the groomer is so ill?" No answer. STAY AWAY from these god awful people. They are NEVER on schedule, ALWAYS late IF,IF, IF they remember your appointment - which they never do, and...they have a rotating staff that has NO CLUE what happens there from day to day. Le Pitou is our go-to Dog Grooming/Boarding place. I go all the way out there from Long Island because I know they take great care of my 2 Shih-Tzus. Ive used them to groom my dogs as well as for boarding purposes- and they are hands down the best. The Manager -"Lady" is very pleasant and accommodating with our needs- we find ourselves going back again and again. I came in here to groom my 11 year old cocker spaniel. I told them that all I wanted was a complete buzz cut all around (nothing fancy). I used to go to a place called Pampered Pups in Queens but my groomer was on vacation so I came here because my dog desperately needed a cut. I told them to put a mussel on her because she is fragile on her back legs (due to old age) and she can get feisty. I even offered to put on the mussel for them to make it easier for them. All in all, I would say that I was being very kind with them to begin with. They took my dog to the back right away without even looking at her twice or asking me any information like other groomers ask (Does your dog have a flee condition? Does your dog get vaccinated? Etc..) That right there already threw me off but I still had some hope.....UNTIL.... I came back to pick up my dog and that is where the disaster came out. My dog had blotches of hair in different places AND she was NOT showered. She looked very frightened. As pet lovers WE KNOW OUR PETS and how they feel to a certain extent. I right away told them to fix the missing spots around the back of her neck and her paws and they replied by saying "Your dog misbehaved". I then said "didn't you put a mussel on her?" and the lady replied "yes but she got out of it" .....UM....wait a sec..."My dog is not HOUDINI or a famous magician/escape artist". A mussel was invented originally for the bigger guard dogs, and even they couldn't get out of it. You mean to tell me an 11 year old harmless cocker spaniel can escape a mussel? AND OK.. lets say hypothetically speaking she did escape from the mussel...Couldn't you have just simply put it back on?........................."no answer" There is NO EXCUSE to not cut my dog's hair correctly and to NOT WASH my dog at all!!!!!!!! I asked for the easiest haircut that any groomer can ask. A haircut that normally costs me only $52 dollars at my regular groomer as opposed to the $75.86 I was charged at this place. I can nearly guarantee that this place will soon not be able to pay for their bills. Don't be fooled by their pretty setup in the front of the store, the back is where the torture chamber is. This place has the worst customer service and satisfaction by far. I gave them a chance to cut my dog and wash her again and I would've been happy with that BUT THE FACT IS THAT THEY DIDN'T EVEN CARE TO. I got scammed. I live a few blocks away so this place is very convenient but it's not worth it anymore. I tried going a few times in the last couple weeks before work at 8am (when they claim to open) or about 15 minutes before the close (after work) and they were closed. The two times I went at 8am the gate was up with a woman inside sweeping up but she doesn't speak any english. I wanted to purchase food for my cats but she was no help and all she could say was nine and pointed to the store hours which clearly says 8-8. Come back at 9am? I spoke to the cashier this weekend about it and she really didn't seem like she cared very much. I said will you give me a discount on my next purchase for my troubles and she said no and then I said I will never shop here again and she said ok. I give this place minus 5 stars. Brought my golden retriever here for a haircut. Told them I wanted a shaved down summer cut. When I went to pick him up they had shaved him completely! I enjoyed going to Le Pitou to buy a gift for my sister's Maltese. On the other hand, I have to give 2 stars because it says on the website AND on the window that it was open 7 days a week from 8 am- 8pm. I walked 30 minutes to drop my dog off for daycare, only for a woman to repeatedly tell me "yes, except for sunday". That DOES NOT mean 7 days a week. I even pointed to the window where the hours were and she continued to give me an attitude, telling me those hours did not apply to sunday. They really should not write "seven days a week, 8-8" because I had to find last minute accommodations for my dog. Also, it is more expensive than any other dog daycare I've looked into, including Camp Bow Wow (which is 10x bigger) and manhattan daycares. read more

I have been going to Le Pitou for many years. Every time I bring my dog Noah to get him groomed by Lydia (in particular) she does an outstanding job!!! I would definitely recommend. I usually don't leave reviews but here goes. I have been taking my dog to be groomed here for over a decade until today. When I got my dog home, he was limping. Blood was all over his furry paw. I immediately called the shop and told the owner what happened who passed the phone over to the groomer who denied anything happened. They told me to come back and they would put some powder to stop the bleeding. I did. The owner told me to talk to the groomer and took no responsibility for the actions of the groomer. They took him in the back and then showed me that he needed to be taken to the vet immediately b/c his nail was completely broken off. BY THE WAY, he walked only from the front door of the groomer to the car, double parked in front so I don't see any of this happening for those few steps. Nothing like this happened before. I blame them completely and feel that the owner should have addressed me about the situation not the groomer. read more

I loooove this place especially because my dogs approve as well! I actually used to get grooming services here before new ownership took over and the previous owner was wacky and charged me $75 to "bathe" my rottweiler....RIP OFF....he wasn't even trimmed like I asked and when I questioned it, she said they don't trim rottweiler's????? Anyway...that was my LAST visit there ago and I'm glad they sold because they sucked in every aspect especially customer service. I would drive by Le Pitou and wasn't sure if it was new owners or just a renovation with Cathy still involved....thankfully, I walked in one day and was greeted and helped right away. I asked about grooming services for my new dogs, a yorky and a dachshund....I took the leap with the reassurance I was given that I would love their services. And yes, 3 hours later...my babies were smokin' hot...lol.....and they were happy strutting their stuff. They started trying to mark territory so I guess that is a good sign. It's been almost a year now and I've had about 5 grooming services done there and I'm VERY happy. They now have a doggy hotel in the lower level with multiple rooms and even a VIP one...lol....aside from a "clean" cageless area to socialize with other dogs. I now feel comfortable enough to board my dogs when needed. The store itself is great...a doggy paradise (they have cat stuff too but not for me to judge since I never owned any)...they have great selections of everything and even carry fresh food. The service here is absolutely awful. They blast music in the back while they are grooming the animals and expect the dogs to sit still. Alexandra is so rude and obnoxious. I was a loyal customer of theirs for 2 years and would tell everyone that I knew to go there until I decided to stay while my dog was getting groomed. I was shocked and disgusted at both the way my dog was treated and the way that Alexandra treated me. Paying $60 to have your dog forcefully handled & to have the owners give you dirty looks and snippy comments is a waste of money as far as I'm concerned. All of the people leaving them good reviews should insist on being there when their dogs are getting groomed. They would be shocked at how poorly both you and your dog would be treated. They listen to exactly how I want my little babies groomed and make sure that I am happy. I disagree with the bad reviews I took my Maltese puppy there for a hair cut it was so great, that I took her back again when she need another hair cut . The staff is very nice and so are the owners, and as far as their products they have everything and if they don't have what you are looking for they will order it for you. I think the place is great. Brought in my 6 month old baby Shi-Poo in for her first time grooming. Dropped her off and was told about 3 hours. So i dropped her off at 2 PM so by 5 PM she would be done. I stopped by around 4:30 just to look around the store while I wait for her. The store owner with surprise sees me and says to me " You are early" so i tell her its ok ill just look around and wait for her. I get her back and i pick her up and to notice that she didnt look like she was washed. She had hair clippings all over her and all. They covered up the wash with a body spray smell. Was not happy. Got home to notice that her ears were not cleaned either. Stay away from this place. Its not a great place to bring your baby. What a waste of 55 dollars. read more

Think twice if you want to bring your dog here for grooming. My husband called them in the morning and asked them if they have any open appointments for that day. Spanish lady said that we can bring him in an hour for haircut. We dropped off our dog and gave detailed instructions to rude Spanish women how we want them to be groomed, even showing the length of hairs. She asked our name and phone # twice during that time and then we left. Then, 30 minutes later, surprise call from her, confirming and asking when we will bring our dog. Seriously? People who works in this place have no idea who dropped which dog and even if the dog even was dropped at their place. When we want back to grooming place, the same Spanish women just starred at us sitting on her chair and she has again no clue who we are and why we even here. I told her that we are having our dog here for grooming and she said "oh, yes" and run to the back. Couple minutes after, she came back and ask us what kind of dog we have. After reminding her that we have tea cup Yorkie, she ran to back again and brought our dog. OMG, I never saw such a bad grooming job not only on my dog ( he's 7 years old and have haircut every 3 month) but on any dogs. First of all, I asked them to make it very short, summer haircut and they barely even trim him. But the worth thing, they cut his hair short around eyes and nose, leaving long, uncut hair in a side of his head. Plus uneven hair all over. Even the person without any grooming school, even 5 year old kid can do better. When I said " Oh, he's hair is so long", rude Spanish women ( I believe, she is the one of the owners) start yelling at me that it's my mistake and I told her to trim it, not to cut it short. I tried to explain her in low voice that I said and even show how short I wanted, and she even started to yell at me more and said she knows better about grooming business. I would highly recommend this business to anyone. She was groomed at their other location every two weeks, where the Manager was the greatest. Since then they've closed this location. My dog went for grooming on a Saturday and spent 7hrs there, she came home and was sick for a week. Our Vet gave her antibiotics. The owner, Alexandra is an out and out liar, fraud and has no clue or care about animals. Anything that can be wrong with a grooming facility is all here...hours are not what they say, they lose appointments, my dog who is so well taken care of that most humans are not that pampered, was shaved down and looked bald after the first time on Queens Blvd. When I went crazy, they said she had too many knots...so on top of everything they are also amazing liars, especially the owner. I have a standard poodle and have been taking him to Le Pitou for about a year now, and couldn't be more fascinated each and every time my dog gets a haircut. My dog is old and is not very friendly, but something about that place makes him much more outgoing when he goes there. The people are top notch and they have everything and much more than any other pet store. Prices are very reasonable. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE!! I left my two dogs here for boarding for 12 days while I went on vacation. The owner and staff assured me that the dogs would be walked and left in a special day care section where they could play freely and interact with other pets. When I returned from my trip I went directly to pick up my pets instead of calling ahead because my phone had died. I was shocked to see that they were in cages. The owner told me that they were cleaning the day care area and thats why they were temporarily put there. While this could be true...there were more problems. One of my dogs seemed to have an injured foot and could not stand on it! The owner denied ever noticing this. But the most horrible part was that my second dog had gained an incredible amount of weight!! SHE WAS HUGE!! She could not jump on the couch at home she was so BIG!! I am certain they never walked her or gave her any exercise. They also did not watch my pets properly. My pets were so thirsty and dehydrated when they came home. I don't believe they gave them enough water. The condition my dogs were in when they were returned to me was appalling!! Also the owner was very rude and is a BIG PHONY!!! This review is about their customer service and not about their grooming. I used to enjoy shopping at this store for dog food, treats and other items but after today I do not. A few months ago I entered the store to look for pet items and an older woman came from behind the counter to follow me. This store is small so I have no idea as to why she felt it was necessary to do so. Today I went to look for some dog dental hygiene products and I could feel this womans eyes on me. I turned around and she was breaking her neck to see what I was doing (she was behind the counter). I went to the counter and gave her my credit card to hear "there is a $20.00 minimum". Ouch (my purchase was a little more than $17.00). I've shopped at this location several times and I never heard this before. I was about to just walk out of the store without making the purchase, however the cashier said it would be ok. From now on I'll have to purchase my dog food from another store. I really don't appreciate being followed, watched and the cashier making up a credit card minimum. Thank you Le Pitou for showing me where not to spend my money. read more

ok. they're finished product is fine. but they do not treat your dog well here. first of all they tried to cancel/rebook my pre-existing appointment b/c they overbooked so I don't think they have a good handle on their business. and when i walked in a little early to pick my pup up, i saw them handling dogs from the back of their neck. now i don't know if this was hurting the dog, but if i'm paying $70-80 to leave my dog in the care of professonal groomers I expect them treat my dog with respect and care. I wouldn't be okay with anyone holding my dog the way i saw them holding that poor lil thing. one hand. by the back of the neck. they have attitude and are pushy as well for business, and bad mouth other businesses. Not a fan, and even if i have to travel a bit further i'm going for it. i saw someone recommend 'MY BEST FRIEND TOO,' on this site so i'm going to try that one next. review to come... read more
