Every restaurant that served Aligot was nearly closed on Sundays. I was pretty bummed but I found this place while searching the net. I knew it was our only shot at trying this dish before we left Paris. We definitely chose a good one and turned out one of the best places we ate at in Paris. First off, this restaurant is like a underground cave or tavern with dim lighting. The seating is all wood with quality utensils on the tables. We started with Pate which was just out of this world. We had two baskets of mini baguette pieces to spread this flavorful-buttery textured pate on. They gave us a block of this pate with fresh mini pickles on the side to balance out the flavors. This was the best appetizer I've had in a long time. It's a must order for starters. For our main dish we ordered their Sausage and Aligot which knocked us off our seats. The garlic cheese flavor from the mashed potatoes were unique. It was basically melted cheesy garlic bread all in the mashed potatoes. The sausage was super delicious! It had a nice pan sear to it which gave it a nice fried texture while the inside was tender and had flavors of chorizo and linguisa. I totally recommend this restaurant in particular for their freshly made Aligot!

I loved this place. The atmosphere, the food, the simplicity. They have basic meats and sides to go together of your choosing. Basically each menu section is the same meat with an exchange of sides. The pate was a huge chunk and we thought it was way too big but we devoured it. The cheesy mashed potatoes were delicious and the duck was an absolute must in my opinion. If you're able to sit outside, that's definitely what I would recommend.

When: Saturday 10pm Party Size: 2 French Onion Soup: 6.5/10 This thing was huge. Easily fed both of us and honestly made us full for the rest of the meal. Thought huge, it was a little bland Duck Confit + Aligot: 7/10 Duck is always delicious. I feel that confit should make it more tender than it was. A little salty as well. The aligot was great (mashed potatoes mixed with cheese). I noticed the locals wrap each meat bite with it - tasty combo. However, it is a really heavy side and I barely ate any of it (not because it wasn't good). Steak and Fries: 0/10 The steak was cooked perfectly but I think the meat was just bad. I never waste food even if it is barely edible but this was not. I couldn't chew through the meat. It was literally rubber I gulped 2 little pieces and left the rest. The fries were also overcooked and too hard. No flavor - ask for salt. Service: 10/10 My water was always full and the waiters came to us multiple times to make sure we were enjoying our meal. One of the waiters who spoke English was super friendly. Greeted us with laughs at the door and kept stopping by to chat about what we've seen so far in Paris and things to do, even though he wasn't serving our table. Awesome guy. Ambiance: 7/10 We sat outside which made it feel like a typical Paris dinner - not complaining. Didn't sit inside so can't speak much there. Outside tables are basically on top of each other but so is every other cafe in Paris Overall: 5/10 Won't come back here

Steak frites. A must in Paris right? We were looking for somewhere close enough to our hotel for dinner on our last night in the beautiful city. We stopped by Le Plomb du Cantal and looked at their menu and decided on dining in. They specialize in Auvergne cuisine, which is heavily focused on meats and cheeses. I wasn't too hungry, so I asked if we could share an entree, and our waitress let us. We shared a 330g steak with fries. Their menu is fairly extensive with items ranging from steaks, duck confit, sausages served with different sides and garnishes, and omelettes as well. One of their well known sides is aligot which is a mashed potato with melted cheese. They served a ton of fries in a a pot, they were perfectly fried and crisped. The steak was juicy and had enough fat to give it flavor. Honestly, what my coworker said was true, I don't think European steaks can compare to back home in the States, but beef always hits the spot when we've been having too much pork in Europe. Service was fine. This restaurant is big, but the tables are put very closely together. They also didn't charge for water or service. 3.5ish rounded up.

Get the aligot and the duck confit! They scoop the aligot out of a pot. I couldn't even finish it all.

I have been here several times. I always come back for steak and aligot. The waiters are friendly and food comes out quick. I love the cheesy mashed potatoes. It is super filling. Steak was cooked perfectly. Great place for big groups.

C'est tres tres bonne! What better way to cement my first night in Paris than by hitting a bistro that was nearby the airBNB? After walking around a bit taking in the sights and live music concert in the plaza, walked up and down the main street hoping to find a spot that looked welcome. The first thing I learned abroad is to not have to tell a waiter that you are there but rather, take a seat and the waitstaff will come greet you right away. So don't stand around looking lost. Go straight to a table. I was rather hesitant, given I had not practiced my French for over ten years but it is remarkable how the language comes back and I was able to decipher most of the items on the menu in addition to understanding what the waitress had to say. I elected to forge forward with the Duck Confit with a side of aligot. Water, in any form, is served via bottles. Once my plate arrived, the waitress then proceeded to pour out the aligot from the still hot copper tipped pot and it literally fell onto my plate in one smooth motion. The cheese and garlic infused mashed potato amazingness melted in my mouth and the confit was moist and very tasty. For the next two hours, it was easy to see why the French have their meals down. People here actually take a seat to relax, socialize, and enjoy good food and drink. There was no need to rush. When ready, request the tab. No one will bring the tab to the table, unlike in the states. In addition to the meat portion of the menu, their salad menu is quite extensive and took up most of the space on the menu. I'm so happy to have found this welcome place amongst the locals. It truly was a nice way to immerse myself in the company of locals and young adults relaxing with beers and wines. Great selection of entrees, drinks, and great service.

Oh my. The mashed potatoes. Are those even potatoes? Whatever they are, they are beautiful. During an evening out in Montparnasse with friends, we opted for Le Plomb du Cantal because it was close to our apartment. And what a lovely idea it was. The duck confit is some of the best I've ever had and the fries were just as delicious. Don't forget to ask for the ketchup! Trust me, you'll need it to accompany those crispy fries. Every now and then I'd take a bite or two of my friends mashed potatoes, which basically tasted like liquid gold (and which I would have ordered for myself!). Reminder: Come hungry. You'll need it.

Absolutely the best meal I had in 9 days in Paris. The food was magnificent and unexpected. Oh, and then there was the portion size. Neither of us finished out food which was a shame because dessert looked amazing. Service was bright, happy, fluent in multiple languages. Who has two thumbs and is super happy about his meal? :)

Close to our hotel and one of the better rated restaurants in the area. We sat outside. I ordered the Entrecote with the Troffade and the French Onion soup to start. My wife got the duck with Troffade. We ordered some Kirs to drink, one with Whortleberry, another with peach and another with black currant. The Whortleberry was awesome, the others were average. All the food was good, but I found the steak (Entrecote) under seasoned. The troffade, though, was phenomenal. It is made from potatoes, cheese and garlic. They bring it out in a pan and portion it out of the pan directly onto your plate and the portion is huge. The service was just okay. The prices are typical of Paris.

This place was crowded when we arrived for dinner, but for two we only waited a minute to get pointed to the only open table indoors. The staff were the highlight of our night: friendly, accommodating, and spoke enough English that we weren't wildly gesticulating at things on the menu. I ordered the entrecôte with truffard and onion soup. My date ordered the magret de canard with aligot. The soup was OK, but a bit disappointing. The onions weren't caramelized first as I've had in other versions, so they felt mushy without much seasoning. I wouldn't order it again. Our plates were enormous. We could easily have happily shared one. They make a big deal out of pouring the truffard and aligot (for which the restaurant is known, it seems: the chunky or creamy versions of cheese, potato and garlic combos) onto your plate from the copper pot, but it's practically the whole dang pot! The duck proved the best. My steak, while I ordered it rare (so this is partly my fault), was *so* rare it was barely warm on the inside. The duck was ordered medium but came medium rare, which was perfect. Bottom line: pricey, but good service and huge portions of mostly good food will challenge you to clear half the plate. If I lived in the area I might come back and order differently, but on vacation our culinary trip continues elsewhere.

Wonderful evening -- last night in Paris.

Fabulous Dining... Our last night in Paris, and Le Plomb du Cantal was the best dining experience during our stay. There was a brief wait to be seated, but it was obvious that the restaurant was patronized by many locals: it was a large restaurant with many tables outside and inside, and very few were vacant. Though it was noisy with lots of chatter from the locals, it wasn't loud. We could still carry on a conversation among the chatter. The menu was in French and English, so that made it easier. Our aperitifs: Kir Royal and Kir Cassis. We each got a salad: green and mixed (photos posted). I asked for a bottle of Cote du Rhone--delicious red wine to compliment our dishes. Our entrees: pork sausage with cheese mashed potatoes, and I had the entrocote (medium) with cheese mashed potatoes--they were absolutely delicious! The meat was seasoned and seared just right, and potatoes cheesy, oh so cheesy! So frickin' good cheesy! The pork sausage was also tasty. Our attendant was polite and respectful, not overly friendly, but not pretentious. We each had dessert: creme brulee and rhum raisin. So good! This is one restaurant I would like to return to the next time I'm in Paris.

In a bustling area of cafes, there are plenty of seats inside and outside. From reading reviews and seeing what others ordered when there, we stuck to the specialties, as one should. The service was perfect and friendly, the dishes brought out quickly, potatoes served hot onto plate table side. The Truffade was garlicky and cheesy, the Aligot perfectly smooth and creamy. Perfection with the bottle of red ordered. We then walked the twenty minutes up to the bank of the Seine - walking off the rich meal- constantly talking about how good it was.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.
