Le Toledo is a popular bakery on Mont-Royal Avenue, a lively pedestrian street lined with cafés, bakeries, and restaurants. Several locals we met recommended it, and it's easy to see why. The bakery is quite large, with plenty of tables and seating inside, making it a comfortable spot to enjoy your treats on site. When we visited mid-afternoon, there was a short line, but it moved quickly thanks to the efficient team of staff behind the counter. Everyone was friendly, spoke both French and English, and happily explained the pastries and their ingredients. Prices are very reasonable: cookies start around $3 CAD, croissants at $2.50 CAD, and pastries like brioche and cinnamon rolls are also available. I ordered a chocolatine (pain au chocolat) for $3.25 CAD and a caramel cream cruffin for $5 CAD. Both were excellent--crispy on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, and full of flavor. If you're strolling Mont-Royal Avenue, Le Toledo is absolutely worth a stop. Grab a couple pastries to enjoy on the spot or take away--you really can't go wrong here.

In Mont Royal area, there are so many pastry shops that it's hard to choose which one to step into (for real) and once you do, it's even harder to decide what to order. We ended up at Le Toledo and tried a pistachio flan, a caramel cream cruffin, and a cookie. The service was quick, and they do accept credit cards. The first server we spoke to didn't speak English, but they quickly found a bilingual staff member who was helpful. Since all the pastry names and descriptions are in French, Google Translate doesn't always capture the nuances, so it's best to double-check with staff if you're unsure or have nuts allergies! As for the pastries: the cruffin was a bit on the dry side and not as flaky as I had hoped. I have eaten plenty of cruffins to say this. The cookie was tasty, while the pistachio flan was a little underwhelming--it lacked pistachio flavor and wasn't as smooth/creamy as expected. There's an area to sit indoors and some tables outside as well. I'm glad we gave it a try, but I think there are better pastry options in the area. Oh, their prices seem to be a bit higher than others. This was my 7th pâtisserie and day 3 in Montreal!

The best almond croissant I have ever had (and I've had a few). Very fast service. Really very good coffee. I would highly recommend this bakery.

We had been walking through the Plateau and needed a place for coffee and just to get off our feet. It was close to the end of the day so they didn't have a lot of sweets to offer but I managed to find an almond bun which tasted more like marzipan (which is still almond) and was just the right size to satisfy. To wash it down was a lovely matcha latte while my friend had a perfectly prepared Americano. What makes this café so enticing (besides the tasty sweets, fresh from the oven) are the windows which surround one side of the establishment. There is a bench that runs along side it, complete with little cushions for comfort. The staff was friendly and quick and I'll be back when I return home the next time.

Ultimately, it's their takeaway sandwiches, but their pastry, that earn Le Toledo a 5-star review. This is not to say their pastry is not enjoyable or well made, but for pastry and desserts, I prefer Les Co'pains d'abord. Still, this is a such a vibrant boulangerie in such a vibrant city, and we did have great visits. Is this place ever quiet? The seating options are interesting because they have couches, window benches with cushions and small side tables, and a big communal table with benches from which you can enjoy the constant flow of customers moving in line. The staff here seemed to be efficient and appropriately friendly, and I saw many of them multitask. The pastry highlights were chausson dejeuner, chausaon d'oeuf, gateau basque, and flan Parisienne. The others, including choco bombe, pain suisse, and biscuit choco, were decent but I probably wouldn't get again. Now the sandwiches. The bagnat poulet had big pieces of incredibly tender chicken meat with thick sources of fresh tomato on a soft roll, and the ciabathon's blend of tuna salad, rocket, and the delicious olive ciabatta was a total knockout. I hope they keep improving and stay open for a long time.

This neighborhood bakery has good selection of bread and pastries. Espresso was smooth and medium bodies which hit the spot for me. Croissant was buttery and crunchy. Brioche was sweet and soft.

An amazing bakery in Montreal! This was definitely one of my favorite ones. We came in for coffee and a croissant and ended up staying to just relax for a while. They have a decent amount of seating but were actually pretty full when we came in the afternoon. And there's free WiFi so that's a bonus! I got the almond croissant cause I love almond croissants and I wasn't expecting too much but it was actually really good. It was so puffed up and jam packed with that almond filling, which I love. The only con was that the edges tasted a little burnt, but I would honestly still get it again. Overall a great bakery to pick up pastries and baked goods, there aren't too many so make sure to go early before it sells out. Coffee was also pretty good!

Fantastic cafe with a TON of pastry and bread options. Everything is made fresh and in-house as well. I ordered the matcha latte and it was PERFECT, and the Almond Croissant had this delicious almond paste inside - can't recommend that combo enough! The employees were quick and very helpful. There's a good amount of seating, but it's pretty popular, so you'll likely be able to grab a seat when someone leaves. Highly recommend if you're looking for a nice pastry and beverage!

THE CUTEST COFFEE SHOP IVE EVER BEEN TO! You walk in and they have so many delectable pastries with their own flour which you can buy. They have a full espresso and coffee menu. Highly recommend all food and drink options available. The vibes inside were immaculate. The decor and everything was so creative and cozy. Really loved discovering this place!

Our lodging was right above Le Toledo, so my friend and I decided to check it out for breakfast on a Friday morning around 10:30. The space is large and has some seating. There was a large table in the middle but it was roped off, but so I'm not sure whether you can sit there. It sounded like their baguette won best baguette in Montreal 2 years ago according to some signs in French, so we got one to make breakfast sandwiches in our Sonder. It was only $3, which I thought was very reasonable. We also asked the employee helping us what was popular there, and she recommended the apple turnover as well as a French pastry called gateau basque, which is a pastry with almond cream inside. The apple turnover was a bit too large for us, but we did get the gateau basque to try, and boy was it good! If you like almonds, definitely get this. I'm not a huge bread person and couldn't tell whether the baguette was the best I've ever had, but it was pretty solid. It was crunchy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.

We came around noon and got the almond croissant and vegan chocolate chip cookie. Both were absolutely delicious. The cookie was crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. The chocolate and sugar had caramelized around the edges and did not disappoint in their rich flavors. It being vegan did not take away from how good it was, which is something I find to be usually the opposite. The croissant was one of the best croissants I've ever had in my life. It was very decadent, so I was glad to have a friend to share it with. It's sweet but not too sweet and incredibly buttery. The almond was present, but subtle-- not too overpowering. The shell was light and crispy, but the inside moist and soft. I would definitely recommend checking out Le Toledo if you want to have your bakery fix! It was the first stop on our bakery hopping trip, and it was one of our favorites for sure.

Busy on a sunny Sunday afternoon. Cool spring day as the masses huddled in for a hot beverage. The raisin spiral bun was devinaly decadent. We enjoyed the eclectic decor with a couple of coffees. Crowded but enjoyable ambiance.

Might this be one of the best almond croissants I've ever had? Yes. This place is incredibly popular, and for good reason. I came back twice to this place on my trip because I was literally DREAMING of the almond croissant. I also tried some of their other baked goods and they were delicious, but paled in comparison to the artful croissant. tl;dr GET THE ALMOND CROISSANT
