I'm from out of town and I had been searching for a nail salon with an expert in acrylic. After searching and searching I came across this salon. Initially I asked for Yvonne because of her good reviews, but she wasn't available so they placed me with Helena to receive my fill-in. Upon entering, the establishment is very very clean. Mask wearing is optional, though, even more the techs, so if you're uncomfortable with that, it might not be your place. There were several techs working and I loved to hear the rapport among the staff as they laughed and joked with each other. While they seemed to really be enjoying each other, they often didn't have that same warmth with customers. I found Helena to be a bit unwelcoming and bordering on apathetic which is why I am only giving four stars; however, the work she did was phenomenal! She took great care of my nails and walked me through her process. She thinned out the acrylics which were too thick for me and gave me a beautiful gel finish. I took my granddaughter for a mani and she booked a pedi appointment for me...I was so fortunate to get Anna as my technician. I gave a 3 star review but Anna deserved a 5! I like a relaxing experience and Anna was soft spoken and very quiet...but the Salon was disturbing with high pitched voices and constant conversation across the room, not from the customers but from the technicians. I loved everything about my pedi that I asked if Anna had time for a mani and she accomodated me, but the noise in the salon was getting to me that I found it hard to sit still! I like my finger nails almost naked with just a clear finish so it was quick enough to get out! Anna is not only an artist but a perfectionist. I would love to go back to her again but I need to find a way to block out the noise. Any suggestions? Are there ear mufflers I can buy? lol, would love to walk into the salon donning some vibrant colored ones. Maybe then they will get the hint! It's really too bad that they do not understand the spa atmosphere people need and want! All kidding aside: If the salon techs are reading this, may I recommend working on making your salon environment quiet and relaxing for the client. A week in after the "fix" and all nails are cracked or chipped. I've done dip for years and can easily get them to last 2.5 weeks these are not even lasting a week. Old product? "Watered" down product? Cheap product? I don't know but what I do know $80 is certainly not worth the sub par product. read more

All the nail technicians are pretty good across the board. Although there always seems to have extras costs on top of the original service. I usually do dip with tips which is $65. That price is already higher than some of the other places around. It's Wellesley, I get it. But then to charge $10 to take off the tips ( why is this not included in the service price?) & then $2 for almond shape?- which I didn't realize they were charging me for until the 4th time I went. Went here a few times. After my last visit, it's unlikely that I will be back. Pros include appointments always beginning on time. That said, there have been times when I have arrived on time and have been rushed to pick nail colors while others were showing up late and got to take their time choosing. During my last visit, I booked a mani/pedi here. The same woman did both services. While doing my pedi, she spoke with the manicurist next to her in a language other than English. She eventually said to me, "I just told her that your feet are as soft as a baby's bottom," which I guess was an excuse to not scrub the bottoms of my feet. I didn't really appreciate the obvious mockery. The pedi was so-so. Shaping of the nails was a serious issue with them obviously slanting in one direction after filing, especially on the big toe of one of my feet. The mani was terrible. Again, shaping issues with the nails. Also, it's like the manicurist was tired and she didn't really remove any cuticles, which were noticeably ragged a day or two afterward. Painting here is always decent - no dings or missed spots, which is why I stuck with this place despite, as others have said, an attitude that they would rather I not be there. I'm Black and manicurist shops run by non-Black immigrants often have the attitude that their brand is largely their clientele and they don't want Blacks as their brand. The usual client at this salon is a Wellesley student or white town resident. There have been some things said while I have been in the salon by staff that made me uncomfortable. There are two other nail places on this block that don't have the SEO that this shop does. Can't wait to try them. read more

This was my first time at Le Vernis. I've been going to a chain studio in Wellesley but losing patience with their on line only reservation system. I saw they had good reviews so called. Was very pleased to find they had the most of the same cleanliness precautions as the chain. Although the techs aren't required to wear masks but will if asked. I got an excellent mani/pedi. Great color choices and very relaxing. I was a little put off by their policy of up- selling: offering extra services. Although they were clear there were extra charges so no surprise. I guess it doesn't hurt to ask. But I'm switching to Le Vernis from now on. read more

Nice place BUT the owner that sits at the front desk is unreasonable and money grabbing. She is always there, never smiles, and greets you with a miserable face. She will talk about you to the other staff even if you are present. Most of all they use very thin coats of nail polish and top coat, leaving your nails and toes dull and chipping within a day. When I called to have them refund one of the charges, she said that was impossible, but would refund the cost. She didn't even ask my name. Amazing experience. The salon is clean and super modern. Everything is new. The nail technicians are super friendly and personable and do not make you feel like they are talking about you as with many other nail salons. The color possibilities are ENDLESS. From regular nail polish to any color gel or powder you could ask for this salon won me over today. I will for sure be going back even though it is a 30 minute drive from me because it was that incredible. Cannot wait to get one of their parafin pedicures as I saw a women get one today. My daughter (college student) had gone here as she needed a nail salon that would remove dip. She had a positive experience, so I decided to try it since I could not get an appointment with the salon that I frequently visit. As a first time visitor of Le Vernis I felt very unwelcome. One manicurist checked me in without a smile and offered only one ring of nail colors for a gel manicure (she said all of the rings were the same, when the one she gave me had only about a quarter of the number of options/colors compared to the other gel rings that were hanging on the wall). Maybe she didn't understand me as I soon learned that my manicurist could not communicate with the me on basic requests (request for "square" or "flat" shape, not "round"; request to see other gel color options; etc.). All of the manicurists were loud, unwelcoming and not inclusive. None of them smiled at their customers, and only smiled amongst themselves while were loudly laughing. My manicurist kept filing down my nails after removing the gel, such that they became very thin. She quickly and incompletely cut my cuticles. I was actually happy as there was no evidence that the cuticle cutter had been sanitized prior to use (my manicurist didn't even wipe it off with alcohol prior to cutting). Given how poorly she cut my cuticles, I felt that the gel would lift quickly near the base of my nails and decided to forgo getting gel polish and asked for just a buff (without polish). In the end, all I got for $20 was gel removal off of three nails, a bit of cuticle cutting and filing, and hand cream. I will never return and suggested that my daughter avoid. I guess you get what you pay for. The employees of Le Vernis clearly don't care about customer service; one would think they would at least treat a first time customer well. Very disappointed. My first time visiting and I was thrilled. If you are looking for trendy nails, this is the spot!! I haven't found anywhere in the area that can deliver on what I ask for in design and shape (see photos). Helena takes her time and really listens to what you ask for. I showed her a photo, which she glanced at, then delivered PERFECTLY. She was also kind enough to answer all of my questions about comparing different techniques (I tried liquid gels for the first time. I think it's the best manicure I've ever had and you absolutely need a skilled technician to execute it). The ladies are a little guarded at first, sure, and totally warm up once you get chatting. As a person who also works in customer service I think some of the other negative reviews about this topic are unfair. I have been here many times, and unfortunately won't be back due to the treatment of myself and other customers while I was there today. First off, I have only ever booked on the website. Never had any issues. I booked a week in advance for my appointment today, came in and was told my services (manicure and pedicure) would be at the same time. I said I did not book them that way and from what I remember the website only asks for the start time of both services, not asking for the start time of each. I did not see the time selection screen twice on the website so I don't know how I could've possibly selected the same time twice when I didn't see a time screen twice to begin with. Plus, considering how abnormal that would be to purposely schedule simultaneous services, I'm a little frustrated nobody would call to confirm I purposely wanted to have my services simultaneously. When I booked, the entire day was available, so it easily could have been rectified had I known anything about the issue, but I've never had this happen before after repeatedly using the website and nobody ever made me aware of it. Regardless, what appeared to be the owner told me she couldn't do them back to back as she had no more availability. Fine I guess, I understand being booked, but it was a very unpleasant service. I've never felt more stressed at a nail salon. To make matters worse the pedicurist shut off my seat massager. I understand she had to because the manicurist couldn't paint my nails while my body was shaking, but the massage chairs are the primary reason I get my nails done professionally in the first place. I could do everything else at home myself, it's the one thing I can't replicate. Also, my nails came out pretty rough and jagged on the tops walking out. I try to never leave unhappy and at least voice my concern to give the people a chance to fix it, to which my manicurist came over with a nail file but continued to do a poor job. I wish they had sent over someone else, as I don't want the person who made the initial mistake trying to rectify it and continuing to make the same mistake, putting me in a position to be more and more vocal just to get it fixed, but the salon was so overly booked there was no one else to come over. Also, my entire service took 30 minutes, the fastest I have ever received a manicure or pedicure, let alone simultaneously, so you can imagine the rush and stress of the experience. Very disappointed overall with the quality of the service and truthfully wish I hadn't shown up today. While I was there, another customer with 2 kids was being told by the owner that they couldn't do one of her child's pedicures. She said the manicures were supposed to end at 12:10 (at the time it was 12:18) and they didn't have enough time left. It didn't appear to be the customers fault, just that they were taking longer than expected with their manicures. Watching I felt very bad for the little girl, the mother did her best to express her child really wanted a pedicure and that's why they came but the owner continued to insist it couldn't be done. I feel like if you're a business of this nature and don't have a buffer for something like running 8 minutes behind, you are running the business poorly and setting yourself up to have to disappoint customers. To make matters worse, the owner argued with the woman at the register and tried to make her pay for the pedicure her child never received. It was quite abrasive to say the least and I was a bit taken aback by the experience, as well as the rest of the salon was watching with similar reactions written on their face. The woman expressed she was a longtime customer and very politely stated she was happy to pay for the services she received but not for the ones she did not. It took a few minutes of back and forth for the owner to back off. I still tipped as I normally do (20%) because I don't feel it was the manicurist or pedicurist fault they were put in a highly stressful situation like this. The problems here were all on the owner, and while I'd rather not write a review it seems to be the only way to provide feedback. I don't know if the owner was having a bad day, but regardless the attitude today was inappropriate, the quality of service was one of the worst I've ever had due to the stress of the environment, and I won't be back. read more

First time I went was great...second time, different manicurist did a poor job--I still have some lines on my nails from how much she used a scrubber (I don't know the correct term for it). So, I think it's worth finding out the manicurist's name and asking for the one you like again if you decide to go back. Another thing--first time, everyone was friendly. I came in before about a month ago on a weekday afternoon with no problems, but today (Saturday) I did run into a few bumps. During my last appointment I came in for the same service as I did today-- dip powder full set with almond shape and a classic pedicure, just with different colors. I called earlier in the day to see if they had availability anytime to accommodate me and said I could come in at 5:15 pm for my dip powder full set and pedicure. From the email I received and from when I came in, it didn't seem like they knew I was also coming in for a pedicure, but they still were able to do it for me. The pedicures are all very clean since they have a lining they replace after each client. After my pedicure going into my dip powder, I said I wanted the shape to be oval/almond, like my previous shape. I'm not sure if my manicurist knew what almond meant. I asked her to round out the edges like an almond shape, but she just told me "later, I still need to file two more times." I found it a little rude, but I didn't take it personally considering that they close at 6 and when I was all finished it was about 7. When she went to go file my square/coffin shaped nails, I was left with with what you see in the picture. Another employee asked me if I liked them after the final top coat was applied, but at that point what else could I say without being rude and taking up more of their time? I don't hate the nails I walked out with, but it just wasn't the shape I usually go for in the warmer months. I did notice after leaving that there was a smudge on my right pinky finger after having lotion on my hands and arms, which happened to my nails from my prior visit as well. I suppose they weren't given enough time to dry after that final top coat. For future visits, I'd personally pass on the lotion since I don't like my nails being ruined the day I get them done. I used to go to PureLuxe in Needham, but my dip powder was always inconsistent and bumpy. Here, they file down any bumps and make the dip powder as smooth as possible, which I really appreciate as little imperfections bug me. Regardless of the smudges, Le Vernis blows PureLuxe out of the water. Overall, Le Vernis is a very nice nail salon that is beautifully furnished. The hospitality is great as I have been offered complimentary bottled water during each of my appointments. I would suggest going earlier in the day, or during the week, as it was very busy when I came in for my appointment today. I also suggest making your appointment online in advance to avoid any miscommunications over the phone. read more

I am surprised this place doesn't have any reviews yet! Anyway, I visited today with my daughter, and love it. The studio is fabulous, and very, very clean and bright, and the nail polish options are abundant. They use autoclave to sanitize the instruments, as well as disposable trays for pedicures. The chairs for the pedicures are very comfortable and provide massages on demand. It was my first time trying the dip powder, and my daughter's first visit to a nail salon.
