This was my first experience with this shop. I brought my truck in for three things: an oil change,…read morea state inspection, and a windshield washer fluid hose repair. All three items were completed, so this isn't a review claiming that nothing was done. My concern is with the quality of the service and the follow-up afterward. During the inspection, I was told my truck needed a new engine air filter. The problem is that I had recently installed a high-quality reusable K&N filter. That recommendation immediately made me question how carefully it had actually been inspected. During the oil change, I noticed I was being charged several dollars more per quart of oil than the nearby auto parts store charged. To their credit, after I questioned it, they adjusted the bill. However, I shouldn't have had to catch that myself. In addition, when I left the shop, the "Check Oil" maintenance reminder had not been reset. My biggest concern involved the windshield washer hose repair. I was originally charged a diagnostic fee for what turned out to be a straightforward repair. After I questioned it, the charge wasn't removed--it was simply reclassified as labor. Before leaving, I asked exactly what had been done to repair the hose. This is a known issue on my model truck, and simply reconnecting the hose often means it will separate again. A simple zip tie is a common preventive fix. I never received a clear explanation of what repair was actually performed. To be fair, I contacted the owner before posting this review. Ryan responded promptly to my first email, which I appreciated. I then sent a follow-up email on June 8 asking one straightforward question: "What work was performed regarding the windshield washer hose repair?" More than a month later, I still have not received a response. No repair shop is perfect, and I don't expect perfection. I do expect careful work, fair pricing, and clear communication when I ask reasonable questions. Unfortunately, too many small issues added up, and the lack of follow-up from the owner ultimately led to this rating. There are many repair shops in the area, and this experience didn't give me enough confidence to return.

They charged me $30 to look at t and provided an a free vehicle look over on other things. They let me know that it was indeed leaking and found an additional leak. They sent me a quote and I was flabbergasted at the price. The first original leak repair was quoted for $2,700. They did find another leak that would cost me an additional $1500 to repair . Way more than I was planning. I talked to a gearhead at my work and he said absolutely do not pay that. He said they do this to women, unfortunately. I talked to two other local shops who quoted me for everything on the original repair for $800 and $1100. Those quotes were for everything 17th Street was going to do for $2,700. I hate that companies do this. The icing on the cake was that when I drove my car home, I popped the hood and they didn't even attach the cover to the motor. It was just laying cockeyed on the top. It makes me question what else they didn't reinstall after looking over my car.

Completely unacceptable, frustrating experience…read more I paid $1,338 for front brakes and calipers, and within six months I was still having braking issues. When I returned, they replaced only one front rotor under warranty. After a third visit for the same braking noise/vibration, I was told the problem was my rear brakes, even though those had been replaced only three months earlier at another shop. I then went to three independent shops, and all confirmed the real issue was a warped front rotor (the one not replaced the second time I brought it in). This should've been fixed the second or third time I brought it in. Instead they shifted blame to another shop, in which their work was confirmed to be fine. And for the price I paid, I shouldn't have had to bring it in multiple times for the same issue. Still after three visits and over $1,300 spent, my issue was still not properly fixed. The only good thing about this experience was that it was under warranty, and another shop was able to fix my brakes properly. I would strongly recommend getting a second opinion before trusting this shop, and if possible save your time and go elsewhere.

Ronnie Hanson assured me that he could rebuild the transmission and he even pulled the "God" card. Told me that God was looking out for me and he could do it for $2,400.00. I fell for it hook line and sinker. The day the truck arrived at McCarty's, the price jumped to $3,000.00. That should have been my first red flag. He told me it would take 5-6 days. A month later, he released the truck back to us and watched my 18 year old son drive off in a VERY UNSAFE vehicle. He told my son that the transmission needed to reprogram itself and it would take about a week and to NOT worry about it jerking into gear. On the way home, every light in the dash board came on. I took it to another shop and spent an additional $600.00 to fix a problem that was not there when we took the truck to McCartys. The mechanic that fixed this issue, said that he did not feel comfortable with an 18 year old boy driving the truck that way, so he, the new Mechanic drove it back to McCarty's where is sat for 6 months. Every day, Ronnie would lie to me, my boyfriend and even my brother in law and say that he was working on it or waiting on parts. We asked for our money back and and the truck back and he would not give it to us. On July 11th, I received a call from Hampton Chevrolet asking what I wanted done to my truck. The truck was completely dead. Ronnie had the truck towed there and dropped off after hours without ever speaking to anyone. After that, and over night, he sold everything in his shop that wasn't bolted to the ground, shut the doors and went into hiding. WHAT A COWARD! I filed a civil suit and a judgement was ordered against him. I advise all of you that were scammed by this "God loving man" to do the same! At some point, it should turn into a criminal suit! Ronnie Hanson, you are a con artist and I don't know how you sleep at night. I have personally spoke to 5 other people that have been scammed out of thousands of dollars by him! I don't have to worry about anyone else taking your vehicles to McCarty's since he closed up shop. But I can pray everyone does their research and doesn't fall for the Ronnie Hanson scam if he starts doing business on the side or God forbid, opens another business! On the occasions I saw Ronnie in person, he smelled of alcohol. Be careful!

Picked it up and paid and then it was having the same issues with shifting as we were having before we dropped it off. The owner told us we needed to take it to the Jeep dealership to get it flashed. Paid the dealership $200 and it didn't fix the problem. Took it back to the shop. Owner said the new torque converter went bad. Finally ready for pick up April 2022. On the way home from the shop on the James River Bridge the transmission starts smoking and completely stops working leaving me stranded on the bridge. Have it towed back to the transmission shop. Owner says he needs to put a different transmission in it . Every day we call he promises it will be done and gives some excuse why it isn't. Last week he said it was ready and that he was taking it to the Jeep dealership in Hampton and gave us the name of the service representative he's working with. Spoke to the owner yesterday and he said he hasn't heard from the dealership yet and that's why it's not ready. Called the dealership and they said the jeep has never been there and they haven't done business with him since 2022. Shop phone has been disconnected and he hasn't answered his cell phone. I do not believe anything he says. I doubt the transmission was ever rebuilt or replaced to being with. He has our jeep and $3000 we paid for the transmission. Please do not use this shop. We are going to have to get legal involved. Dishonest, unprofessional and doesn't know how to fix transmissions. I wish I had read his reviews before I ever took the Jeep there to begin with. It looks like I'm not the only one this has happened to. :(

Unfortunately, I had an identical unpleasant experience this time as I had with the previous vehicle when the first AAMCO repair did not resolve the problem. However unlike the first vehicle, the second repair on this vehicle didn't fix the transmission problem either. Nor did the third AAMCO repair- each one taking a week or more, requiring me to find alternate transport, etc. In exasperation, I finally told them I would like to just take my car to another (non-AAMOC) shop. They agreed and ended up paying for the repair there which was done right the first time. (Shocking!) AAMCO -- Never again.

Major kudos to Samuel at the front desk and Julius the technician who performed the work. The only reason this wasn't a 5 star review is because of Benjamin at the front desk, who showed no interest in addressing me even though I stood patiently in line - directly in front of him - for nearly 15 minutes as he took phone calls and spoke with other team members. Not so much as a 'thank you for your paitence' or 'I'll be right with you.' He made the statement of 'I'll be with you in just a moment' - while barely glancing up - as I approached the line, but didn't say a word afterwards - but was quick to chat it up with people that were in line after me. I won't speculate as to why he treated me this way, but that was horrible customer service. It took for me to get Samule's attention - while he was with a customer - to get seen.
