I love me some Lee Harvey's! The staff is always super nice, the atmosphere is very laid back and unpretentious, there is always a nice mix of people and the music is always super good. This place makes me feel like I am inside a Tarantino movie. Please be aware that there are only a couple of indoor seats as well as a pool table, this place is mostly outdoor, they have some outside fire pits for the winter time, but there is not much you can do in the summer, besides having a bucket of super cold beer with you. Their food is good, nothing fancy and the prices are super affordable. There are plenty of parking areas around it, mostly just dirt lots, but they do the trick. What I love the most, is how this is just a place to have a beer and a good time, the waiters are attentive and they are not the type that judges you for not ordering cool enough beer or not spending ridiculous amounts of money (*cough *cough, like some places in the Bishop area) Also, since this place is mostly outdoor, your dogs are also welcome. read more

So many great reviews representative of a great place! What a wonderful bar! When the weather is fair, the patio is one the best places to spend an evening with friends. When it's cold, it's even better with the fire pits. The bar provides firewood for your pleasure, and you go home with the wonderful smell of campfire. I won't be doing laundry any time soon! It can be hard to find the first time you come, so make sure you pack that GPS for the camping trip. There is live music and food specials on particular nights that are great too. When Ambiance is a factor- this is the place! The burger is above average, the fries and onion rings are delicious and the service is pretty good! There's a good smoke flavor to the burger, thick cheese and world class buns. Yes, it's the hood- complete with random dogs and sirens in the near distance. The tables are old wooden picnic tables, the bathrooms have the "no you can't see your veins in this bathroom" colored lighting. But the live music in the evenings is good, the fire pits are warm and beer flows. Did I mention friendly, fast service?! During the day it's a place to grab an awesome burger with friends. I thought that I had written a review on this several years ago but I am not seeing it now. If I have consider this an update as I have been there probably over 100 times now. What can I say about this place? Well, 1st of all it is out of the way and hidden just south of downtown Dallas. The location is really nice because of this and also: (Texas Monthly and D Magazine please take note of this) - Lee Harvey's HAS THE BEST BURGER IN THE STATE OF TEXAS! Yeah, I know that is a very bold claim but it is true. My wife and I have been searching for the so-called best burger in town and even in the state ever since we found this place and we can not find anywhere else that has a better burger anywhere! Period!!! Also, the onion rings are really awesome too! I have had the Fish tacos on one or two occasions and they are really good but the burger here is always my choice. They also have a really good beer selection and a really awesome enclosed front yard (patio) that is dog-friendly. The inside decore is like a 1970's style hole in the wall bar that is eclectic but not gaudy. The outside aria has multiple picnic benches and two wood burning fire places when it is cold out. Bottom line: This is the best-hidden gem in Dallas with the best burger that I have ever had (with or without the ice cold beer)! read more

What a dive! Scary, barely lit bathroom and a really dark bar. But...completely worth visiting, and revisiting. The patio is humongous with tons of seating. We had the onion rings which were good. I prefer my onion rings breaded, but their beer battered rings were some of the better ones I've had. We also had the fish tacos. Probably the best fish taco I've had in Dallas. They were small, fish was grilled well, and they didn't over-do the toppings. There was cabbage, lime, and a really great salsa verde on the side. The local beer selection was good, but they only serve cans/bottles. Overall, a great spot. We'll definitely be back for another afternoon on the patio. Here I felt like a friend grilled a burger for me in their backyard. There was nothing fancy or special, but it was pretty good. Actually the best part was the combo of fries and onion rings. Both were tasty and above average. I liked the type of bun and how the toppings were provided on the side. There were a few negatives. The bottom part of the bun was quite soggy from the juicy burger. I didn't even eat it. The thick-cut pickle slices were the bread-and-butter variety (not a fan), however I probably could've asked for dill had I known. A group of us went and were really excited to go bc we had all been there in the past it was some amateur music and it was terrible. Painful to listen too. While we were sitting there trying to have fun, dogs were Loose and they pooped right near our table and also went pee on several tables. They were off leash and the owners were not watching them. So the lovely smell of poop snd pee were right there... and dogs were also walking on the tables. that was gross. Ants were biting out legs and crawling all over the table. It seemed very unclean. Do I have something to add to my last review? Um....if you call finding one the best burgers I've had in Dallas "a little something to add"....then......YES. So, if you are a friend of Lee Harvey's on facebook, you know that at 2pm every day, they do the "Lee Harvey's facebook friend of the day" contest....first person to respond on their status update gets a free cocktail and entree that evening. I had noticed this a few times, thought it was a cool idea...and one day I refreshed my facebook and there at the top popped up that post. No responders yet. SO I just typed "Yay" in the field and sure enough, I won. Free dinner? Yes please! I always considered this t be a place to go when teh weather was nice, since the inside is so small.....but I did remember that they have fire pits going outside in the yard, etc. Lance and I head out there, find a booth, I look over the menu but already knew that I was going to use my free entree to try this famous burger I've heard about. It was Monday, dollar taco night, So lance ordered 4 tacos......two fish tacos and two ribeye tacos. The food was delivered, and we were both amazed by the size and look of my hellacious burger. The tacos were kinda puney, but hey, they were only $1.....the ribeye tacos were decent, kind of bland...the fish tacos were better due to the chipotle sauce they had on them. NOw for the main story...that BURGER! Holy crap, the bun was almost sweet and had melted butter on the top...and perfectly toasted. The meat was thick, cooked medium like I ordered it, and the kind of juicy that has you rolling up your sleeves and using multiple thick napkins. I put all the fixins on it, the lettuce, tomatoes, red onion and sweet pickles....spread a tiny bit of mayo on the bun.....and then inhaled that thing. Lance took a bite and couldn't speak for about 5 minutes.....and than all he COULD talk about was how surprisingly good that burger was. Being the good girlfriend that I am, I cut him off another quarter of the burger to have....and he relished every bite. After a good time talking about how he had no idea they had this burger, or even served food for that matter, I filled him in that the next evening was actually half-price burger night. So what did we do? You guessed it.....hoofed it back up there the next night and each got our own juicy burger. This burger is in my top 3 of Dallas burgers. Haven't had it yet? (As long as you are single with a dog and REALLY like to drink) My favorite times at Lee Harvey's are during the fall, with the fire pits going, and a good band that I've never heard of just impressing the hell out of me one their tiny ass stage. What a really cool bar! Though I tend to frequent lounges and quieter spots, I was in Dallas and wanted to check out a popular local haunt and Lee Harvey's seemed like the perfect place. With the capacity for hundreds of people this is the perfect bar for a night on the town with some friends. In fact, I felt pretty jealous when I saw dozens of tables outside for guests to hang out on all night long. Living in Seattle we just don't have anything like that! The bar looked and felt like a cozy spot for a late night BBQ with friends. But with booze included! There were even set ups for live bands and bowls set out for folks who brought their dogs. It seemed as Texas as Texas can be and I loved it! Didn't try the food when I was there but spotted the menu and everything looked pretty good. I had a beer and 2 cocktails with my burger and my bill was $11.16. I'm sorry, was that a mistake? No, no it was not. Lee Harvey's, will you marry me? And many months later I'm still stuck in Philly. However, I have to say that yes, Lee's pops into my head a lot. The Facebook contests are a great way to promote the bar and the contests are *fair* despite what's been said. The online community promoter is super cool, very funny and pretty darn accommodating even with crazy. No one should have to put up with crazy but it's happened and was handled well by Lee's online personality. The bar isn't "trying" to appear to be anything except Lee Harvey's. It's a bar, in a small old house, with a porch, a screen door, a front yard with picnic tables, an outdoor bar and deck and fire pits in a neighborhood that may seem "sketchy" to some with people (you know, the long time neighborhood residents) who may seem "sketchy." Is sketchy the new word for "they're not like 'us!'"? Well behaved dogs are welcome outside. Inside is for me perfecto: small, warm in vibe and comfy. The bartenders are nice and they're actually pretty darn fast. Then again, I'm nice and I don't freak out and expect bartenders to make a drink magically appear before me the second I sit down *especially* when the place is packed. The bar can become very crowded very quickly late night but that crowded can be ridiculously fun if you're a social bee like me. Unless you're one of those people who need the uptown 5-feet-of-personal-space-so-I-appear-aloof type. I suggest you go to *that* bar and leave Lee's for those who are A-OK with a bar that's not trying to impress anyone. The food is yummy. Better than most bar food I've had in my travels and in the places I've lived (a lot of places). For those complaining about greasy burgers: you're in a BAR. Heeeellooooo! I've had *muuuch* worse in bars and restaurants which are supposed to be up-market. I will eat their munchies any day, any time! For those complaining about dogs, well, too bad. Lee's likes dogs and it's great that Dallas has a place that is dog friendly where people can come together with their pooches and have a beer and a taco. There should be many more dog friendly places in Dallas! Dogs are a great social lubricant, except for those who don't like dogs and who aren't social but like to complain a lot. I introduced Caroline H and her gentleman friend to Lee Harvey's last night for the Yelp & Dallas Moustache Movember Happy Hour. Although they're more yacht club, I think they had a great time. Here are few pointers: - Grab the closest seat possible to a furnace outdoors, cause it gets nipply out there in the winter months! - Bring a few dollar bills for the jukebox - Go on a Monday or Tuesday for sweet food deals. The dollar tacos on Mondays are the size of my palm (and I have small hands!), so order two more than you think you'll eat. - The drinks are poured heavy here, so be prepared for your Maker's with ginger ale to taste more like Maker's on the rocks. - And no, your car isn't going to get broken into. Before this place got crazy popular, two things of note occurred to me on two separate visits to here: 1.) A crack head tried to sell me an old car battery at the front gate. 2.) A large goth girl (woman?) told me in a very off-hand way that she was going to stab me if I didn't order her a drink, only realizing after she'd said it that she thought I was someone else. Yes, finally jumping on the Lee Harvey train. Or perhaps it's a beat-up old Ford pick-up...rusted out with some stray dogs in the back. But I digress. On a Wednesday afternoon around five pm (what can I say, I like to start early) the place was pretty deserted...save for a sad junk yard dog that sat behind his chain link fence and waited hopefully for one of us to steal a hubcap, thereby giving him the chance to rip our calf muscles out. Sorry, buddy. I ain't stealing this time. Just here to drink my troubles away. Lee Harvey's has an utterly compelling rusty old charm. Like Grandpa's cowboy boots or Uncle Willy's spittoon. The sign itself, a hunk of painted metal swaying in the breeze, drew me in like a moth to the flame. The gravel-filled front yard and picnic tables said, "Howdy! Sit a spell." So I sat. Then I saw the wood paneling inside AND the old light-up beer signs and swooooned. The Falstaff beer one...yes, I'm stealing you one night...around 2:15 am when I'm good and rowdy. Yes, they serve Times Ten wine in a hearty no-stem glass. But they also serve Miller High Life, which is where you just can't go wrong. The food menu looked tempting, but I just wanted to drink 'til I passed out on the ripped vinyl seats. So a friend of mine suggested that we try this place out. We decided to visit on a Sunday (bring yo' dAwg day). It was me, some friends, and 2 pooches. On the way there, I thought that my GPS had failed me b/c of the rickety neighborhood it took us through (which the place resides in). All of a sudden, WE ARRIVE at our destination. Since my dog is a COMPLETE SPAZZZZ, he IMMEDIATELY starts to bark (from INSIDE THE CAR) as he can see all of the 4-legged activity PoPin' OFF all over the place. To make a long story short, my dog FFFFreak-Barked the whole time (I'm still socializing him....it takes time)!! I got "looks" from people.....so I looked back at folks, and we all started laughing. I tried to walk off, like I wasn't the dog's Mother, but he followed me (couldn't hide the fact that he was mine). Many people came up to talk to us, and say "Hi" to my obnoxious dog. Finally, after my little guy calmed down (good for him, b/c I was actually thinking about drugging him), we had a GREAT time. When we got hungry, we ordered the cheeseburger with 1/2 fries 1/2 onion rings (chipotle aioli dippins'), and it was DELISH!!!! It tickled the S outta me when our food came out, and we were surrounded by a couple of beggin' dAwgs (they were TOOO cute)!!!!! Drink:30 later, it was fire pit time, which was too perfect. Overall, this was an awesome experience. The staff was super friendly, as were the patrons. I don't know of any other place, where you can grab a tough drink, have some tasty viddles, meet great people, and enjoy a fire pit.....all while wearing flip flops, with your dog by your side. Groovy little joint. I agree with Rickster that it's a wanna-be dive bar. It is where folks go to play down. At first glance I thought it might actually BE a dive...but when the band started playing "Bang A Gong" and someone goes "ohmygod it's the Power Station song. I luuuuuv that song." I was like "ohmygod someone hold my hair." Don't get me wrong. I can play down. I'll do a Redneck Prom Party any day. I have my maternity Jack Daniels motif prom dress back from the cleaners. I'm sorry, but I found half the people there fun and the other half pretentious. Now if I were me I'd tell myself that if I don't like the general public then I should not go out into them. So I got me another beer and was all three of us were fine. My friends that went with me were fine also. I'll go there again. The outdoor area is a lot of fun. I loved the fires and the folks who worked there were nice and helpful. The neighborhood is in transition. Valet is necessary for a gal. The guys waiting ahead of me for the valet to bring their car around...pretending that every lower-brow car than their benz was theirs...in a mocking "look I'm getting into this crappy van way" needed their butts kicked. I came here for a friend's birthday party and it was packed at about 10:00p, security guard checked our ID but there wasn't a cover, phew. I quickly found my friends sitting outside at one of the many picnic tables, but close to one of the chimenea so it was all good. The band was a 5 or 6 person set, lead woman had tats and a flute, interesting combo. About half way through my Pabst, a short bus pulled up with about 20 pirates. Arrrrr, me maties, interesting from that point on. The place was packed, bathrooms were two, both had signs on them for "lady's use only" which I thought was interesting, guys weren't too happy about that. At one point, there was the most docile looking pitbull chilling outside the bar entrance, and the biggest dog-water bowls I've ever seen chilling close to him. 5 stars for Pabst, quick service, good people, chimeneas, Pirates, and a cool through-the-trees view of downtown. read more

I have to say to everyone who is not a regular here: BEWARE- there are some REALLY UNFRIENDLY regulars that go to Lee Harvey's! Since my first review I've taken a ridiculous amount of verbal abuse from Lee Harvey's diehard fans/regulars for calling this place out on their unposted contest rule and writing about my bad experience. The fallout I've received can best be described as a lot of one-sided name-calling, mean-spirited jokes, and loose threats-- really immature words-- like stuff you'd expect to hear from a bully in junior high school. The weirder part is that it's coming from people who only know LH's half of the story, whom I've never met, spoken to, or personally done anything to. (This message here is the extent of my speaking to them.) ------------ To set the record straight for the people who only know LH's side of the story: LH could make up a 7-day rule, 2-week rule, or a yearly rule and it would be fair as long as it was written somewhere or at least told to people who had won already. I entered their contest on a whim only two times, without any reason to calculate how many days/weeks/months passed in between my entries-- I just happened to win both times, 3 weeks/about a month apart, but a few days shy of their 30-day rule that I had no way of knowing about. I was not trying to cheat anyone else out of their chance at a free meal by constantly entering this contest, as someone has accused. Geesh! My point always was and still is that it's very bad customer service to revoke a prize that a customer won based on a rule posted AFTER the customer won. Furthermore, it is absolutely shocking how LHs has allowed/encouraged their regulars to verbally beat me for bringing up the unfairness of this situation that they created. I've never experienced something like this in my entire life. At this point I don't expect Lee Harvey's has a cool owner who will ever be apologizing for all of this. Went to go see a local cover band of The Cure when visiting a friend (I live in FL). LOVE the venue!!! Anyplace outdoors with picnic tables and live music is a winner in my book!! Groovy inside too just a little cramped. Friendly bartender. Only point taken off is because it felt slightly "cliquish" inside but, then again, I am an out of towner and it definitely seemed a local joint (which is good). My friend had already told me elsewhere while in town that I stood out like a sore thumb that I wasn't from there. Living in DFW for your years, I had never been to Deep Ellum. BUT that all changed Labor Day weekend and I was introduced to this wonderful dive bar. A good friend and fellow Yelper, Tisha E. usually meets friends for $1 Taco night on Mondays. Let's just say you need to go to Lee Harvey's for $1 Taco night. On Labor Day, we decided to go have a few beers and some $1 Taco. This was probably one of the best times I've had at a bar next to seeing Graceland Ninjaz here (but we'll get to that later)! They sell buckets of beer and you can bring your dogs especially on Sundays! Getting back to Graceland Ninjaz...they were playing here the following Saturday so a friend decided to celebrate her 30th b-day here. Lee Harvey's was crowded and everyone was here to see the Graceland Ninjaz! They were amazing and are a must see if you never have! I'm definitely looking forward to returning to Lee Harvey's! I get a feeling that I, along with several of the recent reviewers of Lee Harvey's may have brushed shoulders or kicked up some gravel together this past Independence Day--if so, hello hello in the light of--well, not day, but, computer screen? I had not been to Lee Harvey's until this past Friday, the 4th, and I couldn't have picked a better day to break my cherry at this locale. I had a loverly time. As I sat down at one of the picnic tables (mad cred here!!! I love picnic tables, it relaxes even the most uptight among us Dallasites), lit up a cigarette (more cred to yas), the bar tendress of supercool individuality was there in an instant and man was I pleased as punch--or should I say, Lone Star!!!!! to hear that they had--well, you get it, Lone Star. I'd so give Lee Harvey's 5 stars if the band (which, in my opinion, kicked it with some mad individuality and a mixture of instruments you almost NEVER hear in Dallas) took a break long enough to throw in another band for 30 minutes or so, or a little juke box/loud stereo to mix things up a bit, just long enough to give those of us withOUT ADD (I'm not in that group, so if I dig what's playin', I can dig it all night long, but yeah, 30mins of something else is super cool for a little splash of fun)... Anyway, I had a damn fun time, got drunk, which I have not been in I don't know how long...and yeah...nothing scary about this place whatsoever. Get over it, fellas. Nice staff, nice clientelle....great view of the colour spark fire things--fiiiiireworks, that's it...but who cares when you're diggin' on the people, atmosphere, drinks, n music?! A place in Dallas called Lee Harvey's. Ha. How could you not go? This place is a true dive fan's dive. There some street parking, otherwise park in the field across the way. There's a chainlink fence to pass through to get onto the somewhat imposing property. The property is a mix of a dirt lot with crabgrass and some tables. There are people drinking cheap beer, smoking, swearing, and hanging out with their dogs. The beer is by-the-bottle and is chilled simply by dumping costco-sized bags of ice on 'em. The bartenders don't really care about you. It's cheap, it's open, and people mind their own business...unless your dog messes with theirs. I came in from Chicago and wanted some dirty fun. So, night two of my stay we hit Lee Harvey's. When you pull up there's a badass sign and a chainlink fence around the place. There is a large open outdoor area with picnic table seating and occasionally a waitress will stop by if you're too lazy to walk the 20 yards to the bar. Next to the place is a junk yard with it's very own junk yard dog. just from aesthetics alone this place has a ton of character. There was a cover band there the night we went that rocked pretty hard. The main bar is inside and it can get a little cramped. It's not really a sit down and hang out area as much as a stand and socialize place. Later on after the band had stopped there was a DJ (I have a hard time using that word when they're not actually mixing) playing a vairety of Electroclash, New Wave and some old Industrial. Now this was a super mix of people if ever I've seen one. Bondage girls, goth rockers, frat boys, indie kids, bikers, etc.... It was like the United Nations of social groups. I'm not a bar person at all but this place was awesome. Definitely someplace I want to hit when I visit again. read more

The people who run Lee Harvey's know what they are doing. This place is a great scene, where you will see people hanging out in the yard when it's brrrr chilly or sssssizzle hot. I love the family atmosphere and the way I feel completely at home. The food is surprisingly fantastic. I haven't had a better chicken sandwich than their panini with chipotle sauce. Their fries and onion rings are also a great way to put on the pounds. I also commend them for their drink selection. I love that they serve Strongbow and Times Ten wine (although I always get Strongbow). The bathroom scene is much improved with the addition of the outdoor bar bathrooms. Don't let them scare you; they're actually quite clean and preferable to the one inside (anyone want to guess why that bathtub has a door with a padlock? shudder!) Such a fun place to hang out and watch some live tunes! We went to see a Hall and Oates cover band on a Friday nite. Great Show. The back bar is a little weird, as you have to stand in line and will be reprimanded if you dont. The inside bar is a little more accommodating, but wicked tiny. Either way, great drinks. I would not encourage you to wear high heels here, its all like rocks or something outside, hard to walk on... and it is mostly outside, so if its hot, be prepared to sweat. My wife and I will venture down from the 'burbs to hang out in Big D. One of our favorite places is Lee Harvey's. The first time we came here we honestly didn't know what to think because the neighborhood is a bit sketchy, but we figured out it's all good. Lee Harvey's the perfect place to hang out and do some drinking. There's plenty of parking across the street. They've got a decent beer menu and the food is great, especially the burgers and onion rings. Great atmosphere inside and out. The bathrooms are an experience themselves. Tons of graffiti! Let me preface all of this by saying that I am a textbook reluctant hipster that hates all things hipster. So, when I was first introduced to Lee Harvey's via my love for Geeks Who Drink, I really didn't want to like it. However, I soon discovered that this place is hard not to love. Parking: The neighborhood is very safe, despite how it looks. Parking and walking to the patio is no problem. Service: Easily one of the best things about Lee Harvey's is how awesome their servers are. They're always willing to joke around or make suggestions. Vibe: Super chill and very community oriented. One of my favorite things about Dallas winters is going to Lee Harvey's and huddling around one of their wood furnaces. Their dog friendly attitude is also greatly appreciated and enjoyed. Menu and Price: Here's a random night I enjoyed there recently - I ordered an awesome veggie quesadilla for a great price and was washing it down with an equally affordable Lone Star. Then, a random dude sits down next to us and says he's working for Lone Star. He then gave us free swag just for drinking their beer! So, even though I will still continue to hold angst for most of my hipster brethren, I will never hold any ill will towards Lee Harvey's. Photos and descriptions will not tell the story correctly for this amazing little dive bar in the Cedars area of Dallas. Located in a slowly gentrifying area of Dallas (nice new developments equally surrounded by the hoodiest of hoods), you may feel insecure upon arrival but I assure you...I have been there many many many times and have never heard word of damage, theft, or personal safety issues for anyone. Lee Harvey's is mainly designed for you to be outside. Chiefly because their interior probably hold 32 people legally, 46 or so comfortably. The exterior has covered areas, uncovered picnic benches on a rock gravel yard, and plenty of help in battling some of the extremes of Texas weather. Their happy hour drinks are so good. Great size, great prices, and made in a way that will not make you feel like you're getting shafted...even at evening full prices you feel as though it's a good value. But, besides an ideal dive bar atmosphere (ugly bath room, darkly lit bar, the feeling of almost entering a trailer), the thing you HAVE to do is eat here. I have eaten two of my top 3 favorite burgers ever in this place. One is their standard cheeseburger, the other was a potentially limited run Erik's Tillamook Pepper Jack Cheeseburger (pepper jack cheese, marinated portabellas, jalapenos) that was a moist spicy and sweet combination that has a mental battle in my head daily for my favorite burger of all time. (The other one is in Paris, TX at Buffalo Joe's).. Live music on Friday and Saturday nights...and not your typical bar shitty top 40, classic rock, country cover bands. They pull in groups who are doing fun side projects (covers mostly) outside of their usual artistically valuable work. In other words, world class musicians and performers who are goofing off with style. The outside is dog friendly, as long as your dog is friendly. The second half of that sentence is VERY important. I love Lee Harvey's every damn time. I live in Houston and occasionally come up to Dallas to my company's main office right next door. Everything is good (except the gumbo - but I know better than to order gumbo outside of select destinations). Awesome beer selection - domestics and imports. Good a$$ tacos. Perfect sandwiches. Outta dis world onion rings. Really, opt for the onion rings, even if only for the special sauce. read more
