Yup, come here. The onion ring hype is real. I usually don't like onion rings because I find them too greasy depending on how restaurants batter them. But the rings here are light, crispy and fairly thin, which I decided to love and cherish as if they were my own after a couple of bites. I'm getting ahead of myself. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup to start out with, honestly not expecting much but it was actually pretty decent. I wouldn't say it's the best tortilla soup I've had but I was surprised how hearty and meaty the soup was. Everything in it tasted fresh. I also ordered the half pound burger with cheddar cheese, avocado, bacon and subsituted the fries for the onion rings. It was a perfect med. rare and so freakin juicy. That bacon though...Damn, it wasn't a tiny burnt strip, it was hefty bacon on that burger. The bartender/server was very friendly and at one point the cook came out and asked how I liked my meal. Dallas has a lot of great bars, and I like different ones for different moods and days. There are even a lot of good dive bars. But Lee Harvey's is the best dive bar in Dallas, and I consider myself something of an expert. Good bartenders mixing strong drinks without a fuss. They kept our tab straight - even when the group beside us had the same last name! Tons of graffitti in the bathroom, covering every square inch of the tiny space (bathroom is so small you don't need to lock the door - because there is no way for another person to squeeze in). Heck, there is even graffitti in the parking area, and on other buildings in the area. Dog-friendly. Good local bands in a comfortable outdoor venue, with s great sound system. Decent firepits if the weather warrants a fire. What more could you ask for?!? Def my fave dive bar! We've enjoyed it for years, and yes we will go back! read more

This place is the bomb! I'm from Amarillo and spent many years of my life frequenting a dive bar called Boondocks and from the minute I walked in I felt like I was back at home. Cold beer, great old fashioned cheese burger and super yummy onion rings. This place puts the dive in dive bar. I expected to see a line of Harley's parked outside. Came for lunch on a Saturday but really feel like this place would be best visited on a Friday or Saturday night sitting outside listening to live music and munching. Stopped by here on a Sunday morning at 11:30. Inside dining is closed, so I ordered a Burger and fries at the bar and sat out on the patio. The bartender made me a margarita on the rocks( he said they couldn't do frozen) and it was pretty good- not too sweet or sour. The 1/2 lb burger and fries arrived after about 20 minutes. It was worth the wait. It was perfectly cooked and juicy. Side note- the patio is a dirt/ sand floor, so be thoughtful about what you wear. The only nuisance was fighting off the flies, but I really wanted to sit outside ( the weather was nice). Reasonably priced- burger, fries, Coke, and margarita- $21.20 read more

This bar is what it is, a dive bar, so you need to know that going in. We went during a slow time so this place is hard to review because there were about two other couples there so there was no vibe or energy level. The weather was beautiful so it's a bit curious why more people were not there. The bartender (owner?) was really friendly and talkative, made us feel welcome. But the drink choices are limited, and I am giving it 3 stars because there is no beer on tap. I don't see how a bar cannot have anything on tap. The huge outside seating area is a real plus and I can imagine that it would be quite fun to sit outside on a nice day in the spring or fall when lots of people are there. read more

Finally I made it to Lee Harvey's!! Why has it taken me this long? Probably because it's way out of my way but it's well worth going off my beaten path. It's pretty much a hole in the wall bar with a gigantic patio that's super dog friendly. I stopped by with a few regulars during the week and was starving. I didn't think the food would be much to talk about but my burger was delicious plus they didn't give me a hard time about order it bunless. I was able to stay on track with my Keto diet and not miss anything. I did cheat and have a few bits of onion rings with aioli and it was so worth it. This bar food was beyond bad food and pretty good. The atmosphere is really low key and a nice place just to come and relax with some friends. read more

Very kid friendly on the day we went. They had great live music on a patio. Lots of parking. Drinks and food are decent and affordable.

Bad experience last two times. First time wanted burger well done and it was raw in the middle. Second time both bartenders were grumpy and one lost our card and finally found it 15 minutes later. Really wanted to like this place. read more

I like Lee Harvey's for several reasons. I usually go on Thursday night for Rock 'n' Roll Bingo which is from 8 to 11 PM every Thursday night. There's no cover charge and there's no cost to play the bingo. They usually play five games (four straight line games which are five covered spaces up and down, across or diagonally and then one blackout game). The winner of each straight line game gets a $10 gift certificate/food and beverage credit at Lee Harvey's to be used by the next week, and the winner of the blackout bingo gets a $20 gift certificate. Great variety of rock 'n' roll snippets, plus there are also theme nights such as tonight, which will be One Hit Wonders night. The bingo is hosted by Joe, who is very knowledgeable about music and groups and he most always has the moral support of his brother Drew. Both are great guys and lots of fun. Joe has a great smart-alec personality (never offensive) that makes for a fun and lively evening. It's a great dive bar with lots of little nooks and crannies for people to hang. There's a big enclosed porch when you go inside which is where the bingo is played and where they have live bands on some nights. During warm weather they roll up the clear flaps so that the porch area opens to the large outdoor patio with picnic tables and a couple of fire pits, all with the beautiful Dallas skyline as a backdrop. Inside the bar itself is a two-sided bar with barstools, three booths, a pool table, a separate little room with L-shaped seating and an eclectic jukebox, plus a video game where you can play Pac-Man or Galaga. They also have the most amazing collection of vintage beer signs. The prices are reasonable, the food is very good, the drinks are stiff and the staff is congenial. Go with friends, or go by yourself and make some new friends. read more

This has to be the divest dive bar I have ever been to! Came in early on a cold day for lunch. We were the only patrons. Walked to the back of the bar and took a booth. It's mid-day and so dark I needed my phone to see the menu. :) Ordered a burger and fries, and my companion had some sort of sandwich and rings. Iced tea for both (workday). The tea was very strong. Would have liked a tad less bun on top of my burger. Otherwise- all of it was really good. Service was easy, friendly, helpful. The atmosphere is authentic, and the archetype of the American Dive Bar. Great beer sign collection. Would love to come back and hang out some Friday or Saturday night when there is a band and experience the whole vibe. read more

Run, don't walk away from this joint. First they strong armed you for a $20 "donation" to come in. Soon after we sat down and ordered our waitress sat down in the bar and spent the remainder drinking beer and flirting with a customer, never checking on us again. Then we waited over 45 minutes for the WORST tasting cheeseburger I've ever had. It seriously tasted like a charcoal briquette had been crumbled over it. Then the fries and onion ring combo they charge you and extra $3 for, consisted of about 6 fries and 3 small overcooked onion rings. My wife mentioned how bad the huger was and their staff only replied with a sarcastic "thanks." Save you time and $$ and go somewhere else. read more

I like Lee Harvey's. Really. I've been enough times, with enough different people, to have seen a cross section of what a true Lee Harvey's experience is like. The food is great - burgers are best on Tuesday when they're 1/2 price - the drinks are stout, the beer is cold, the prices won't make you feel like you've been Rick Rolled, the picnic table/fire pit yard is best experienced on a chilly night when the stars are twinkling and the smores are in abundance. See. I like Lee Harvey's. What I don't like is the surly staff. I get it. They're all a bunch of cool cats whose secret got out and now they're stuck playing host to the Uptown crowd that decides to slum it for the night. That would piss me off, too. But I'm not one of the Uptown kids giving them attitude for being on the wrong side of the tracks. I'm a great customer. S'mores. Lee Harvey's had me seriously wanting some s'mores. Maybe I was finally feeling hungry after my ginormous lunch at Pepe's or perhpas it was the camp fire like environment outside of this low key bar. Whatever it was I kept hoping someone would hand me a few marshmallows on a stick. And while you're at it...don't forget the graham crackers and bar of chocolate. Unfortunately, there are no s'mores on Lee Harvey's menu, but there is tasty looking bar food fare (didn't get the chance to actually taste it) and plenty of drinks to choose from. The people who work here are super sweet (especially Kaz). Oh, and don't be concerned about the big dude following you out to your car when you leave. Apparently they do this for safety reasons. I moved from Deep Ellum to LA. Before I left, Lee Harvey's was a dive bar with an awesome open jukebox and great specials, but apparently not anymore. They no longer have the $1 tacos on Tuesday so that should be taken off their site and menu. I just left there paying $27 for one cheese burger with mixed onion rings and French fries and one Crown and Gingerale. The bartender asked me if I wanted to get half onion rings and half fries, but did not mention it is a $4 up charge which is crazy and I was charged $1 for ranch so $5 extra insane upcharges on my bill. I tipped $4 and the total was $27. The food is good, but that is way too much for a burger and fries. All their prices have obviously jumped. No "Dive Bar" should be charging $9 for a Crown cocktail and especially not in Texas. It was just like eating in LA and made me sad all the things I love about Texas have seemed to disappear. read more

They have PBR and Lone Star... and it's cheap They have great live music every day I had a party there and it kicked some serious butt! They have bug repellent at the bar, free of charge :) THEY LOVE MY DOG AND WELCOME HER ALWAYS! This place is definitely a diamond in the rough. I know lots of people will say the area is suspect but I'm sure you noticed that when you looked up how to get there so you should have come to terms with that by the time you arrived. I was really impressed with the simple things that seemed to make this place so cool. The gravel yard and the picnic tables who needs bottle service and making reservations just roll up early get a table & some cheap beer. I got to see the King Bucks live which was one of my main reasons to go so Vlade was happy with that. The music was good and the beer was cold. I did notice that the staff was very friendly & the busboy was working extra hard trying to keep up with that vast amount of beers that all the people were drinking. We parked across the street and no need for valet or a long walk is just a welcome sight in this city. The crowd was definitely a eclectic mix of people with some having fun, getting full before they head out somewhere else. I did think it was funny we seen a stumbling drunk guy that was wandering the area close to where I parked my car he must have started earlier then I did. I couldn't tell if he was looking for a place to piss or he was just lost, Oh well he was harmless. That incident just made me think even in this area the drunks are there to drink like the rest of us or maybe he was looking for the entrance to keep the party going. I will be back maybe this time I can get a table and a few more friends to show up. read more

I think at one point in time I actually fell into the torn part of the taped up booth. And yes, I think that might have been shower curtain taped up to separate the outdoor area and the indoor area. Wall unit for an A/C? CHECK! Did I take a picture with a faded picture that looked like Whitney Houston at age 21 advertising for Michelob as I also held a Michelob? YES! Legend has it that this place was Lee Harvey's mother's old house. So get over yourself if the name bothers you. You are, maybe, drinking amongst history. And if you are hungry, you should also have a very delicious burger and onion rings. (It is better than the crap I had that was supposed to be rated #1 in Dallas and given all these awards.) On Mondays, it is $1 taco nights, Tuesdays it is half off burgers. And any other day you should just go because it's Dallas and you can't find cool dives to hang out anywhere else around can you? Besides that, on SundayFunday, you can bring your dog and there is a double gate for your spayed or neutured pup to roam around and have a blast. If you are looking for a dive bar this is not it. There are plenty of dives in Dallas--just go south or east and find a neighborhood where you wonder if it's safe to leave your car unattended and look for the place with a blinking neon sign and bars on the windows. If, on the other hand, you are the type of person who likes to use the term "dive bar" when what you really mean is "a place with its own web page frequented by mostly middle to upper class class white people that is somewhat styled like an old biker hang out," then you'll love this place. In any case, if it's a nice night and you're looking for the best patio/outdoor scene in Dallas, then Lee Harvey's is unequivocally, inarguably the place to be. There's not even any competition. What else could a person suggest? The Amsterdam has a nice patio, but it's also small. And go anywhere north of that and you run the risk of the place being overrun with groups of perpetual frat boys in untucked button down shirts giving high fives and leering at women as if they should be served up on a platter. The food here is good--and cheap on some weeknights. The beer is cold and affordable. And they have liquor, too. If you're looking for service with a smile you are probably going to end up out of luck, but who really cares? The point is to go with a friend or a group of friends, sit outdoors, watch the crowd, and on weekends watch the music. read more

I was reminded again last night how much I love this bar. They had a Pooch Prom last night and it was so much fun! I do wish there were rules about certain doggie behaviors, though. I saw several dogs actually jump on the tables while people were eating and I had to fight a few dogs off my food. I brought my dog, but I made sure she wasn't begging or bothering people who weren't interested. Kind of wish other owners had paid more attention to their wondering dogs. read more

I've come here for a Paws in the City event. I've come here because I was their Facebook Friend of the day ( 2 times)! A little bit of Luckenbach in the middle of Dallas. Doggie friendly, heavy pours, good bar food and live music. What's not to love?
