We came through Laurel to visit Laurel Mercantile and grabbed lunch here based on one of many suggestions in the area of a fellow Yelper, Mike. My daughter and I like to eat as healthy as we can while not missing out on life lol so this was a good stop for us. She had a ham and Swiss sandwich with side of fruit. I had a garden salad without croutons, cheese or onions and added chicken. I almost didn't add the chicken because often times places have that frozen grilled chicken on their salads that tastes like nothing so question the point other than protein which I wasn't in need of right then but glad I added it anyway. The chicken is really tasty and made that salad which was really fresh. I thought I had my own dressing but realized after walking out that I'd left it in our rental in Florida so circled back and tried their balsamic which is really good. I was told they have no fat free options which I thought was odd and have never been to a place that didn't have at least one. Would have liked to have tried the butternut squash smoothie I read they have on Yelp but must be seasonal as they didn't currently have it. Also found out its from a frozen mix and I like my juices and smoothies fresh. We didn't try any coffee but it smelled really good. The place is laid out well with plenty of seating. We went straight for the sofas and stretched out after being stuck in the car for hours which was awesome. read more

This was a really cute place. We stopped by while driving from Birmingham to NOLA and it was perfect for lunch! Great options that are both healthy and delicious; it has a lot of charm. They had a unique smoothie that was really good--I think it was peach, pear, and apricot. They also have a beautiful shop in there with "rifle paper products"-esque gifts. read more

Well I tried. I really did. First issue: I placed a catering order for a meeting a few days in advance. When I got here to pick it up it was not ready. It was not even started. Everyone seem confused. So my order took quite a bit of time and delayed our meeting. And they didn't get the order correct and I had to make a second trip. So today I tried again. Just me for lunch. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich. I ordered at 12:25. It is now 1:10 and I still do not have it. Very disappointed. read more

Lees Coffee and Tea continues to be the favorite downtown gathering place in Laurel. The service is friendly and professional, the food is excellent and varied and the coffee is dee-licious. On Wednesdays you can get the best French onion soup ever and it comes in a bread bowl. Their pimento cheese BLT is the bomb and I usually can't resist getting a side of their potato salad. Order tea with a shot of raspberry syrup in it (they'll give you a cup with ice in it and the tea is behind you on a table-I usually do half sweet/unsweet). I gave it 4 stars because sometimes the wait time is a little long. read more

Rub elbows with all the locals, especially the creative crowd of young professionals. Free wi-fi draws as many as their delicious Southern Pecan coffee. Favorites include the Vegetarian Panini with fresh avocado, their generous Chopped Salad, and chicken salad croissant that's on the savory instead of sweet side. Those on diets need to stay away from the decadent Pimiento Cheese BLT and be aware that their must-have, homemade French Onion Soup with chunks of country ham has not simmered long enough to be served on Mondays.... The Black Forrest frozen coffee serves as dessert but there are lots of homemade desserts in the case. Arrive before 11:30 on weekdays or you'll find a line. Newbies: Tea and water are self-serve as well as the silverware, and put the number they give you in the stand on your table for quicker service. Don't worry if all the tables downstairs are full, the balcony is now open for seating, especially larger parties. Tickled they're open at 7 am now for those who need a to-go of Southern Pecan before work! Nicest--and clean-- bathroom than any public space in town. Just left there. No one was taking customer orders. Looked over and saw the person that was taking orders with her purse and walking out. I guess she was going to lunch. No one at the register and two people standing in line. Can't say that I am surprised. Really nice people who own it and work there but they really need to re-think their customer service. read more

What a terrific place!! The old building, the atmosphere, the layout, great staff, fast service, great COFFEE and food...I'm loving it! Wish I lived closer to come more often! Well worth the stop. When school is in, apparently all the children of the local business owners hang out here to do their homework - all the tables are full, very few of the young people appear to be paying customers, and there is nowhere for people who want to buy coffee and/or a snack to sit. My last time there I stood at the counter for 8 minutes waiting for service, then, after finally getting some service, you guessed it... again, nowhere to sit! Yes, a place like this will impress passersby who are easily freaked out at the thought of a town without a Starbucks, but it doesn't impress most of us who frequently have to go into this part of town for business and who try to "shop" local. read more
