They lost a star recently, here's why: Lees was in my opinion the golden standard for Chinese in East Providence RI (Riverside) for YEARS, however recently in 2025 they had a huge change of ownership and their amazing staff left. They used to have the greatest fried rice. I have to say their steamed dumplings are still on the top of the lists, and their beef terriyaki is pretty good. I'm not used to the changes within the new ownership, just yes, and I miss what it used to be. Their portions become smaller, the combo plates used to come with fresh vegetables mixed in and all the side sauces taste differently.. But; unlike many others, I haven't thrown in the towel on them. The food isn't the same the rice is missing something and the chicken in oyster sauce is way off. Susan does above and beyond her job to keep the customers happy but it's not her fault the food isn't the same or off but she did explain it was under new ownership. But they need to post a sign outside telling customers that it's no longer the same. The place was completely empty so it was very quiet. I left my Shrimp Fried Rice and chicken wings because I'm definitely not eating the leftovers if I didn't finish the lunch. We went the other night after hearing about a new chef. All the word of mouth reviews have been good since the new owners made some changes. Service was slow but the food was decent. We started with egg rolls, pork dumplings and steak teriyaki. Egg rolls and dumplings were very good. The steak was not. All of agreed it did not taste good and something was "off". Gen Tso's and Sesame Chicken were both really good. Pork fried rice was good. Chow Mein looked strange to me. My why "said" she liked it. I tried it and did not. Another person at the table didn't seem to enjoy it either. Service was ot the best, girl only came by once or twice. We told her about the bad steak. When she brought the bill she said another table had it and enjoyed it. BS They kept it on the bill. I will be back, if only to see if some things get better. read more

Unfortunately, I am sad to say I will likely not be back. We like to support local restaurants so we took out here and while the egg rolls and chicken fingers were good the chow mein was lumpy with corn starch and the beef fried rice was mushy and you could tell the rice was not fresh even though the beef in it was good. The spareribs were ok and soup ok. We had China Gormet in Barrington that delivered!!! And we loved but it closed. We will keep searching for our new go to Chinese take out. read more

We have been going to Lees for many years. It is always clean down to the bathrooms. The help is always so nice and accommodating when we don't know what we want. They do not rush us. I do agree the prices have gone up. I don't mind as long as the quality of the doesn't suffer. We continue to enjoy the freshness of our choice. I do remember it was a lot more crowded back in the day. Times are different now and people can't go out like they use to. Just don't give up on Lees. read more

This place is probably the worst Chinese restaurant in Rhode Island. The atmosphere is very dark and unwelcoming. The waitress has no idea what she's doing. When asked what was in the egg roll she shrugged and said "I don't know vegetables or something." We ordered a volcano bowl which tasted like it had zero alcohol in it. The bartender actually came over to the table and admitted that she had no idea what she was doing as she had never made a volcano bowl before. The food was disgusting. We decided to try Lee's again Sunday night on 7/27/25. While the food is much better and is coming out much quicker, the service is still awful. The young girl (who was also our server a few weeks ago) has not improved or been properly trained. She is dreadful. Never checks on the table to make sure everything is good or if we need refills. Waited so long just to get our check, which I had to ask for. Usually a server will clear some of the dishes mid way but she does not. She doesn't seem to care to be in the service industry. Everything felt like an imposition to her. It wasn't like she was overwhelmed, she had only one other table. She'd rather be on her phone. Next time I am in, I hope there is someone else to serve us or it will be the last time we come in. We had a scorpion bowl and kudos to the bartender. It was great. The one I had previously was not so great. I was told it from a mix? Also need to note for the new owners as I hope they actually read the reviews, there was a sloppy dressed young man presumably a kitchen staff member who emerged from the back and began dancing around the dining room which seemed odd/unprofessional but maybe that's his vibe. Only ordered a small chowmein to take out.The gravy smelled very different like some other seasoning was added or it was added to a pan or bowl that had residual left. Charming little Chinese American place. The service was terrific and the food, overall, was above average. We dined there and it was clean and bright. The service was attentive and fast. They were doing a brisk take out business the entire time we were there. The crab Rangoons were probably the best that I've ever tasted and I'm not a crab Rangoon fan. We also had the wings with oyster sauce which were lathered in sweet, dark, sticky sauce. They were crisp on the outside, tender on the inside. The Ho Fun soup was just okay and I would not order again. It was just a very bland broth but it was chock full of shrimp, beef, veggies and noodles. Honestly, I keep coming back to the great service. The waitstaff was so grateful and sweet. They had an attached bar/ lounge area that would seem to be a good hangout. I'm excited about writing this review, because how positive this experience was. We frequent Polynesian restaurants as you could see by the vast amount of scorpion bowl pics that I post. With this, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp of the difference between good and bad American Chinese food establishments. Drink Order - Obviously a Scorpion Bowl: real juices, quality liquor, mixed to perfection. One of the best I've ever had. Food Order - Hot Pepper Chicken Wings: perfectly cooked crispy with a delicious spicy pepper sauce. Not drenched in sauce either, great. Sweet and Sour Chicken: Freshly made, no old reheated fingers. Hot sweet and sour cheery sauce, very light not to sweet. The best rendition of this dish I've ever had. House Special Beef with Orange Peel: Crispy beef in a light orange peel sauce with broccoli. Unique and delicious, the fried pieces of orange peel are delicious. Add in that our bartender was wonderful and I have to say this was a complete victory. I've been wanting to try this place for awhile after reading great reviews. I called for an order of egg foo young. He asked if I wanted the special. I told him the special was pork and I wanted shrimp. He said that's fine I can do the shrimp for a small markup. Ok. So I get there they ring it in, and I leave. Then I realized they overcharged me. I call them and say that the special is $12.95 and they charged me $18.50 - was shrimp $6 more. She said no, prices have gone up - the combo plates are not $12.95 but $15.95. Ok - so 1. That's fraud/bait and switch and $3.00 for shrimp. She said it's too expensive to change the website every time. 1. They could have told me when I called to place the order 2. You know w hat is more expensive? Fines or a lawsuit. She didn't even apologize - I won't go back, and I highly doubt they'll be in business much longer if this is how they operate. I went here with the high recommendations from a few co-workers and opted for take out. Called in my order, Veggie chow mien combination that came with pork fried rice and either 4 fried wontons or an egg roll. Since it was the first time I was ordering egg rolls and crab rangoons anyway, so opted for the fried wontons to give them a try. The wait was a bit longer than I expected, but it was a Friday night so I completely understood. I called in the order and was told 15-20, so drove around and got there at about 15 minutes. They apologized for the delays (which meant a lot to me, especially considering how busy they clearly were). They went through my order with me to be safe, there were 5+ orders coming out at a time!!! The food was great, the chow mien was fresh, the noodles were crunch and not at all stale, the crab rangoons were different than I'm used to, but were still very food (I am used to them being shaped like fried wontons). The egg rolls may have been the best I've had, and the portions (excluding order of 2 egg rolls) lasted me 3 meals!! Lee's is a bit of drive for me but so worth it. I love calling my order ahead and not feeling rushed on the phone, I can say Extacly what I need to say. The food is delicious! You can substitute egg roll for extra rice or the dark meat chicken for white meat. The food is very good, I like the dark rice. Lee's makes sure you are full and can eat for a couple of days! I don't know what happened over the last 4-5 years with this place. It used to be so good and I would be here at least once a week eating in or getting takeout. The food has gone down hill so much and I have officially given up on trying anymore. I spend $52 and we wound up eating a few bites and throwing it out. The crab Rangoon used to be filled and plump with filling and now they r thin and nothing inside. The fried shrimp weren't even fried all the way, still battery inside. The rice has burnt hard pieces in it. The beef teriyaki was a joke, u can go to any other Chinese place and get a huge piece of meat but u get it here and it's a tiny piece on a stick. The general Taos has great flavor still, that hasn't seemed to change but I did notice when I went to break one of the pieces in half that there was a dinky piece of chicken and the rest was all batter. Wanted quick Chinese takeout for dinner and had heard soooo many great reviews from people we know about Lee's so we figured we would try it. Sometimes the heart just wants some good ole Chinese American takeout. Ordered wings, hot and sour soup, wonton soup and 2 dinner combos (chicken w broc and general tso's chicken). Both dinner combos came with pork fried rice and an eggroll or 4 fried wonton, we chose the eggroll. I really liked my wonton soup - nice light broth with slices of roast pork and napa cabbage. The hot and sour was just ok but my bf liked it. The chicken and broccoli was good, again nice light "gravy". Wasn't salty and the ingredients tasted fresh. The general tso's chicken was good as well, typical flavor we are all used to. Eggrolls were just ok. The one thing I wasn't crazy about was the fried rice - I felt it lacked flavor, thank goodness for the chunks of roast pork - that helped. But really, I would prob opt to get white rice next time. And I have to say, the portions are huge! Enough for dinner and lunch the next day. I ordered takeout so I can't comment on the restaurant service but the phone order was very easy and the hostess was very friendly. The order was ready in 15 mins as promised. Wow! So glad Lees was recommended to us from a friend. This will be my new go to for Chinese food! Living in Bristol, good Chinese is can be hit or miss, especially with Luke's Inn seemingly taking a downside in quality of food. I ordered the Volcano for 1 (scorpion bowl) and it was very good. Some scorpion bowls can have that medicine taste. Not here though. Nice balance of flavor and alcohol. For an app we got the crab rangoon (I have to have this whenever I go for Chinese). They serve it with their homemade duck sauce which is soooo guuuuuuud!! Nothing like the run of the mill duck sauce you get in other restaurants. The food was served very hot, like piping hot. You know your food is freshly made here. Rangoon's were delicious, especially with the homemade duck sauce. My entree was the Sweet and Sour Chicken combination. The portions blew me away! I could only eat half my plate! My food was served freshly made and hot. Pork fried rice and fried won tons which were all just very good. My family was very happy with their meals as well. Friendly staff, great food and drinks. Our waitress even took our individual plates and placed our leftovers in take home containers individually, without asking! That is pretty much unheard of today. I will definitely be coming back again and again and will recommend Lees to anyone looking for a new Chinese restaurant. I ate at Lees Restaurant and Lounge on 2/6/21. Where has this place been all of my life? Apparently in East Providence, and I've just neglected to venture out that way. My dining partner and I ordered large soups; she had the egg drop and wonton soup and I had the shrimp and beef with ho fun (flat, wide noodle) soup. Both soups came out piping hot, filled to the brim in metal bowls. Metal has high heat capacity, so the soup stays good and hot for a long time. The broth was very tasty and the soup itself could be considered a meal. We then had an order of scallion pancake and fried dumplings. The scallion pancakes were nice and crispy, but not too much, cooked to a nice golden brown. The dumplings were juicy and, like the scallion pancake, cooked to a nice golden brown. The items were also served with homemade duck sauce. You know how duck sauce is usually an orange color? The duck sauce here has a very dark color; I've never seen it like this before, but let me just say that it's some of the best duck sauce I've ever had. I'd put it right up there with Kwong/Asian Dynasty's duck sauce. Our entrees included the sesame chicken combination and the beef teriyaki combination. Both plates came with egg roll and pork fried rice. You can sub out your egg roll for fried wontons. The teriyaki was juicy, tender and came right off the stick with ease. The sesame chicken was thoroughly glazed, was made up of white meat pieces and had a great taste. Concerning the fried rice and egg roll, both items were very, very good. The fried rice actually had a taste! I've been to other restaurants and sometimes fried rice and/or lo mein dishes are simply bland and tasteless. This fried rice is not any of the sort. It had good chunks of pork in it and had a nice dark color. Very good! The egg roll was filled with a combination of pork and vegetable and was tasty. Egg rolls and fried rice are hit or miss at a lot of establishments. Not the case at Lees. If you are in the East Providence area, be sure to stop by this place. I will definitely be returning to Lees after my year long Chinese food venture ends. 6 restaurants down, 46 to go for 2021. Lees is thus far in my top 3. Some of the best! read more
