    Steamed chive, pork, shrimp dumplings
    Elvin C.

Ten years later - glad it is the same ownership though menu has changed long with a few favorite dishes gone. Ordered three favorites from the menu: - minced pork with noodles in Peking sauce (not pictured) - chicken mushroom pan fried buns - boiled chive, pork and shrimp dumplings If your group is large enough, grab the biggest table near the front and those closest to the counter get a seat at watching their dumplings being made. Otherwise not too nosy if you wanted to walk up for a peek. Total was $41.23 with GST before tip!

Happy to come back here - the XLBs' flavor was impressively improved. I remember that about 4 years ago I came here for their XLB (take out). At that time, I was not impressed. The skin was thin but torn, and the flavor was just mediocre. BUT recently, I came here for their well reputed frozen dumplings. Dumpling House Gerrard is one of the few places that have reputed frozen dumplings in the downtown East Toronto. And they have XLBs. Why not trying again!!! I got - XLB (ground pork, take out): the skin were thicker than before. It was a bit disappointing, but it has good chewy texture. Most importantly, the soup was plenty with complexity and delicacy, and the meat was super tender and flavorful. Tasted natural and tasty even with the minimum condiment flavor. Bold but I liked the totality of it. - Frozen dumpling : # Cabbage and Pork(1F) : I boil-cooked them at home. Oh my the skin was perfectly chewy, sealing the contents perfectly. The moment I bit, the juice popped out on the table. Super juicy. Subtle seasonings, but not lacking. It can go with any condiments of your choice! # Veggie dumpling (14F) : Boil-cooked. It has roughly chopped nappa and fried tofu etc. It tasted good, but my personal preference is the use of finely chopped, heartier, and grassy flavor like spinach or pea leaves. But they came out juicy and tasty. I will come back for sure to try other frozen dumplings, and the XLB. Glad I came back, and they survived the difficult pandemic time. Cheers!

Type of place where you walk in and you KNOW the food is going to be amazing. Nice server. Very small and cozy place. One old guy working his ass off in the kitchen. Got 12 steamed pork and chive dumplings and they were perfect. Even the size was perfect. 11/10 recommend. Also crazy cheap!

Just moved to the East end and had a massive craving for dumplings. After reading a bunch of reviews and stalking their Instagram account, I picked Dumpling House and I'm so glad I did... except for what will surely become a horrible addiction. Can't wait to eat in the restaurant (as I ordered from Uber Eats) but everything arrived piping hot and delicious. Dumpling House does not disappoint. Pictured are Pork Wonton in Hot Chili Sesame Sauce and Minced Pork w/Noodles in Peking Sauce. Will definitely go back in case it wasn't abundantly clear.

My cousin has been here many times but wanted to come here for their rainbow dumplings. Well, we got one colour (green) ones. It's located in the original part of Chinatown. We dropped in on a Wednesday afternoon (around 12:45pm). There's plenty of booth seating inside and you can even see them making fresh dumplings in the back. There's a TV in the middle of the restaurant that was playing some type of Asian music show. I was surprised to see that they give you water Korean style. Nice. The menu is massive with dumplings, noodles, rice & all day special combos, cold platter & salads, Northern Chinese cuisine, soup, pork, greens, Szechuan cuisine, chicken, beef/lamb, seafood and dessert. They also have a most popular menu (with pictures) if you need help choosing. - Boiled chive & pork dumplings (#2) ($6.99 for 12) - can never go wrong with this classic combo. The filling was tasty. - Boiled dill & pork dumplings (#9A) ($6.99 for 12) - lots of dill flavour (which I love) but the pork was dry. Meat was way too chewy compared to the other dumplings. - Wonton in hot chili sesame sauce (#21) ($5.59) - my cousin really liked these. The meat inside was very tender and had an interesting mix of peanut sauce and chili oil on top. - Green soup filled dumpling with ground pork (#24A) ($8.99 for 7) - these are green, spinach infused "XLB's". I say that in quotations because it's Chinese style. Wrapping was much thicker than normal. Still good but not quite the same. Random that they give you an odd number of dumplings. - Spring onion pancake (#25) ($3.99) - haven't had a green onion pancake in ages. Nicely fried and went well with the side of hot sauce we asked for. - Minced pork with noodles in Peking sauce (#36) ($8.49) - we asked them to sub in fresh green noodles for this dish. Noodles were fantastic! Great toothsome bite. Minced pork wasn't too salty and it came with thinly sliced cucumbers. This was my favourite dish. It's no frills, cheap and filling. Cash or debit only (minimum $10.00).

Cute little Chinese restaurant with a huge choice of things to order. Their multicoloured dumplings are great for an Instagram pic but also yummy. They also have some other great dishes like the braised eggplant worth potato and my mom loved their beef salad with tripe even though it was a little spicy for her. Great place for cheap eats.

hot and sour soup tasted great, huge portion and plenty of tofu, noodles, and vegetables

Small obviously family run place where parents and uncles sit around reading newspapers and kids are taking orders and bringing food out. We ordered two dishes of dumplings and a soup, they give you complmentary hot green tea in a pot. We had to write the order numbers down on the back of a piece of paper and hand it to the waitress haha. Didn't mind at all because the food was cheap-ish and we were hungry and craving dumplings. Pay attention to the numbers you're ordering, some of them are out of order BUT YOU HAVE TO PUT THE NUMBER THAT'S ON THE MENU. For example 18,19,20,210, 22, 23,24 is listed on the menu? Don't tell her 21 if you want dish labelled 210. Tell the waiter 210. Idk why they have this like this, but I don't make the rules so..... Probably would return for cheap dim sum IF I lived in Toronto, but if not find somewhere else

This place should be called Noodle House instead of Dumpling House. I've had both the noodles and dumplings here and the noodles were by far the stand out item! My mom - who grew up in Shanghai even raved about the noodles and how authentic they were! She loved the white oval noodles (I cannot remember what this dish was called unfortunately but it is pictured below). For me, my favourite dish was the braised beef noodles in soup. I don't feel like this dish could get any better! It is simple and the homemade noodles really stand out. The dumplings on the other hand I feel like they were good but not a standout. The wrapping was a bit too thick for my liking. I still find The Dumpling House on Spadina to be superior in terms of dumplings. Also they don't have pork & shrimp dumplings which are my favourite! That being said, I wish Dumpling House was closer to me. I would love to get the braised beef noodles more often - they make such a comforting meal!

Second time here. Friendly staff. Good place to go if I miss Chinese food. Ordered dumpling and rice cake? The dumpling is 3stars. It is had a taste I don't really enjoy. The rice cake is really nice.

Items that I got this visit: - har gow shrimp dumplings: overall pretty good, but the wrapper was a bit thicker than I expected. Would prefer a thinning dumpling wrapper - chicken feet: excellent, very tender and flavor was great - tofu skin wrap in abalone sauce: pretty good, the meat inside was lean and well balanced with the veggies - spare ribs in black bean sauce: this was a bit of a disappointment. The ribs were a bit tough and also underseasoned. It could have used some more salt and some extra cook time. Service was fine, nothing special. The restaurant overall was pretty nice and modern. I hope to come back sometime and try some other dishes.

There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.

They have a pretty standard selection for dim sum, using a paper and pencil to mark selections. The service was also quite quick and efficient. They will charge you for tea service (per person) and tip was already included in the bill at the end, so double check before you pay. It was bright and also slightly higher in noise level but to be expected. Some of the dishes were a bit too salty for my preference (like the pan fried beef ribs, great but a slightly more salty than I'd prefer) but the egg tart was nice - not too sweet but still eggy and light.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
