Whoever picked up the phone confirmed that they did, so I booked the appointment. When I got to the barbershop to check-in, they said they no longer offered that deal - which felt like a blindside and is the main reason for this rating. To the shop's credit, they asked if I was ok with that or not. I ended up staying because I had already taken time out of my day to drive over. Tom was my barber, and I was satisfied with the haircut I received. $33 for a men's haircut pre-tip. They have a 3% charge on credit card transactions as it seems cash is preferred. The store itself is clean and has parking in the rear (seems to be shared with the restaurants next door) with a few street parking spots in front (metered on all days besides Sundays).

Ultimately, I went with low fade with and a touch up on the top. He mentioned my two hair whorls and overall head shape provided some considerations on what he thought would look natural, which I appreciated. In the end, the fade was perfect. Afterwards I went in for quick shampoo and conditioner which targeted my dandruff. While the location is somewhat out of the way for me, I can definitely rely on their dedication and handiwork.

It takes a lot for me to give a bad review as I am a big believer in supporting small businesses. I wanted to try Studio One Eleven because of all the 5-star reviews I saw on Yelp. I was really looking forward to seeing what all the hype was about. I showed up today at 10:15 am (blocked out a couple hours from work) and Raquel was with another customer, turns out I made an appointment for the wrong day. The first red flag came up with how rude she was to me when I thought it was a tech error with the booking system, her response verbatim was "well obviously it was your user error because the system says the appointment is for next week." I was pretty turned off at that point, but luckily she had a customer who eased the awkwardness and called out it happened to him last week. She made things a little better by offering me a 7:15pm spot if I wanted it. Since I am in desperate need of a haircut I took it, but I normally would've just passed and found another spot to try, because I think it's VERY important to have good rapport with your stylist...you're in a chair for 30+ min, it will be awkward to have someone you think is rude touching your hair and giving them control of your appearance. I came back at 7:00pm for my appointment and the building door has a note instructing customers to call their stylist to let them in the building due to COVID protocols. I call Raquel and it goes straight to voicemail. I call her again because maybe it was a connection error and same thing. I give it a couple of min and email her thinking she might be with a customer and can't get to her phone. It is now 7:10pm and I'm a little worried that maybe she forgot. I call her one last time to see if I can get through, NOTHING straight to voicemail. I start walking to my car and she texts me "with a customer, text me". As I begin texting her back she calls me and says in probably one of the rudest tones I've heard in a while "hey stop blowing up my phone I'm with a customer. Don't you know I cut hair for a living and can't pick up when I'm taking care of someone?". As a new customer I just couldn't believe someone would be so rude to not even have the decency or common sense to simply politely ask me to wait and let me know that she'll be out shortly to open the front door. Customer service is so important and it seems to be a lost art for Raquel and Studio One Eleven. I can't comment on the skill she may have as a stylist, but I certainly wouldn't trust someone cutting my hair with her rude attitude and approach to communication with her customers....after all with a rocky start I wouldn't trust people who don't like me with sharp objects near my face. Raquel, if you are reading this, I hope you were just having a bad day and it's not a reflection of who you are as a professional. Your communication and ability to empathize with customers is poor at best. I hope this review doesn't stunt your business in any way, but shines a light on how you treat people as you are in a services business. Anyone considering this hair salon should ask themselves how much they value customer service and good conversation with their hair stylist...I certainly do and wouldn't want to sit in a chair for 30+ min talking to someone who clearly has no time for me or cares about what I think. We found Scott through his incredible Yelp reviews and instantly had a good feeling. We booked an appointment, and from the moment we walked into his studio, we knew we made the right choice. Scott is the ultimate professional, warm, approachable, and incredibly collaborative. He immediately asked if we had any inspiration photos and took the time to talk through what would work best for my son's face shape and hair texture. Not only did he validate our choice, he elevated it. You could feel his experience and passion in every step of the process. The haircut turned out fantastic. My son walked out feeling confident and totally transformed, in the best way. Scott's attention to detail and easygoing nature made it such an enjoyable experience from start to finish. We also loved his studio. It's filled with character and creativity, with walls adorned in surf and skate photography and beautifully displayed skateboard art. It felt like stepping into a curated slice of Southern California culture, which only added to the good vibes.
